Yay. It's nearly time for me to sleep, but I just had an inspiration for chapter twelve. Hope ya'll like it.

Father and Son: Chapter 12

Kouga hesitantly followed InuYasha into the house and was led to a downstairs guestroom. InuYasha waved his hand for Kouga to enter and the bewildered wolf did.

"I'm so glad you're here Kouga. I'd like for you and I to be friends. After the wedding, I hope to see you every once in a while. Please don't be upset at InuYasha. You never really loved me anyway."

"But--," Kouga tried to interrupt.

"No, Kouga. You just wanted someone who could sense the jewel shards. Don't worry about it. I get it all the time." Giggle. "You were decent about it though. Besides, you have a responsibility to your pack as its leader. Before you stood up for me, your pack wanted to eat me. I'm human. Your mate has to give you an heir, ne? Well, were you to marry me, your heir would be a hanyou. Does that make sense to you? One of the reasons you claimed to hate InuYasha is because he is half human. Do you want to take that chance with your pack? Do you want your son to be killed because of his mother?"

"No, Kagome," Kouga said. "I know. That all makes sense, I just…" he trailed off.

"I know. Can we be friends? Please?"

"Yeah, Kagome. We can be." Kouga looked close to tears but he was smiling.

"Kouga, I love InuYasha. He makes my heart sing. Whenever I'm not near him, I don't feel complete. He makes my heart beat faster, and somehow, slower at the exact same time. The moment I saw him, I couldn't manage to see my life without him. You're strong, and sweet, and handsome. You'll meet some nice wolf youkai and be happy like me. You'll have those feelings. And when you do, I want you to come find me, because I want to meet her." She smiled up at him. "Why don't you take a nap? You look tired. I'll see you later." She gave him a hug and a kiss on the cheek.

"Thanks, Kagome," he replied and was about to shut the door when he noticed something.

InuYasha, who had been staring at his once-enemy and future mate silently, was now holding out his hand to shake Kouga's. Needless to say, the wolf youkai was a bit perplexed.

InuYasha spoke up. "Kouga, no hard feelings, okay? I won't let anything happen to Kagome. I love her more than life. I want to thank you for protecting her as you have so many times. It may take me and my pride awhile, but maybe we can be friends too? Gah, I dunno. It'd be nice to have another guy around. Especially someone who could train with me. I'm always afraid I'll break Miroku." They both laughed and Kouga shook Inu's hand. A peace between them. Kagome smiled.

"Goodnight, Kouga." Kagome watched the wolf shut the door. InuYasha grabbed Kagome by the hand and led her to the very top floor, which were Inu's private rooms. They sat in the library (with Madame Peacock and the wrench! Heehee) and InuYasha reached out for her. She sank into the plush cushion next to InuYasha. He looked down at her and took her chin in his hand. Then he did what he had been waiting all day to do.

He kissed her. He kissed with such open passion that it sent lines of fire down through Kagome's veins. Kagome melted into his arms and kissed back with just as much vehemence. InuYasha bit her lower lip and asked her for entrance. Kagome parted her lips and before she knew it, his tongue was engaged in an elaborate dance with her own.

After about five minutes, she gained her senses and pulled away. InuYasha involuntarily whimpered in protest and tried to follow her.

"No, InuYasha. Not now," she told her hanyou.

"Why?" He was clearly disappointed.

"We need to talk."

"About…?" was his reply.

"About kids."

InuYasha was suddenly very interested in this conversation. Pups. He wanted them, but wasn't sure Kagome was old enough for that in her time.

"What about them?" he asked.

"Inu-chan, I want children. Nothing would please me more than to have your children."

"I'm glad to hear that," he said truthfully with a smile.

"But I need to know something. I want to know that you'll be a father to my children. All of them. I know that you'll BE the father, but I need to know that you'll act like it."

"Of course, Kag-chan. I'll act like the father. Nothing would please me more than to have a family with you."

She smiled. "Thank you. I hope you know that that includes Shippo."

"NANI?"

"I consider Shippo to be my own. I want him to have a real family. Mother, father…and brothers and sisters. We haven't talked about it. It's just understood. I want you and I to officially adopt him. We'll have a real family. He'll have a real family. Two loving parents. Please, Inu-chan? Please?"

"Sure. I kinda figured we'd do that anyway. You wanna go talk to him now?"

"Can we?" Kagome smiled as he nodded. Happiness at last.

They walked quietly to Shippo's room and knocked. "Come in," he said.

He didn't see InuYasha. Just Kagome. He ran up to her and latched on crying.
"Are you still gonna love me after you mate with InuYasha?"

Kagome was taken aback. "Of course, silly. That's what we're here to talk about."

"'We'? Oh, I didn't see you there, InuYasha."

Kagome and InuYasha sat down on the chairs near a small table. "Shippo," Kagome began. "You know I've considered you my own son throughout all of our travels. I always wanted to have children. But now I'm marrying InuYasha and," She was cut off by Shippo.

"And you want me to leave, right?"

"No. Let me finish. I'll be having my own kids. I was thinking, wouldn't it be nice to have someone to help with the kids? Someone, like, an older brother?"

"You mean…" Shippo's eyes went wide.

"Yeah. We want to adopt you."

"'We'? You mean InuYasha too?"

"Sure, runt," the hanyou replied. "You can't start a family without a father. Besides, you've grown on me, kid. I guess I always just thought to protect you like my own son. I think this is a good thing and I'd love to be your father. I mean, if you'll have me as such."

Shippo cried and threw himself at Inu. "Thank you Mother, Father. I love you guys."

"We love you," InuYasha said.

Kagome sat back and watched the man that was going to become her mate within the next week embrace her new son. She sighed and thought of the future. She didn't interrupt. Everyone was happy.

Inu and Shippo started talking about things like training and building a hut together in Kaede's village and hunting. Kagome decided to go to check on the others and leave those two alone to talk: father and son. As she was exiting, she couldn't help but notice the smile on her hanyou's face. He looked up at her and mouthed, "I love you." She nodded and mouthed the same before blowing him a kiss and going off to find her mother and Sango.
