InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Love Can Do That to Ya, Kid ❯ 16 ( Chapter 17 )
OK! Chapter 16: Big Surprises and The Ceremony
Kagome awoke the next morning when the curtains in her room were drawn back to reveal the early morning sunlight.
She opened her eyes to see who made the intrusion.
"Inu-chan," she whined. "What time is it? It can't be time to wake up yet, I just went to bed!"
InuYasha chuckled. "Yeah, you just went to bed eight hours ago. It's seven." He sat at the edge of her bed; she pulled the blankets to her chin and obstinately closed her eyes. He chuckled again and kissed each of her eyelids, causing Kagome to groan.
"Inu-chan, if I get up does that mean you'll give me a proper kiss?"
He smirked. "I don't know. Try it and we'll see." She opened her eyes and smiled at him.
"One kiss, coming up!" InuYasha leaned down and captured her lips with his own, making the kiss long and passionate… sure to wake up his sleeping future mate.
When they broke apart, Kagome grinned up at him while he showed his smile. Before she'd agreed to be his mate, he didn't smile as much. He didn't laugh as much. She wondered if he would revert back to his old grumpy, yet lovable, self.
"I can't believe that today is the day. I'm going to be yours forever and you're going to be mine. I must be the luckiest, and happiest, person ever to walk the Earth," she said with a look so full of love, he knew for sure it was the other way around. HE was the luckiest person ever. He still had trouble believing Kagome had wanted a worthless hanyou like himself. She had full bred humans and demons on her tail. Both, he had to admit, while grudgingly, had their positive attributes. But she picked him. He'd been rejected by everyone he had every known, save his mother. Even Kikyo's supposed love for him was warped. But Kagome was sweet and innocent and pure. He had no doubt that he didn't deserve her. Even though Kagome had done a lot to help his self esteem. She told him that it mattered not to her whether or not he was a hanyou; she also said that if anyone had any brains, they'd get to know him before deciding whether or not he was 'worthless'.
InuYasha shook himself from his thoughts. "Kagome, in my family, it's a tradition for the male to wake up the female the morning of the mating and present her with a gift. I couldn't help myself. I got you two."
She swatted him. "Inu-chan! You didn't have to! YOU'RE my gift."
"I wanted to. Number one." He handed her a box. It was heavy and made from Japanese oak, maybe three feet long. She opened it up and her breath caught. Inside was a katana. Just long enough for her. The hilt was ornately decorated with inlays of gold, silver, and rose pearl. InuYasha tapped her on the shoulder and pulled back his lips. He was missing a fang.
"InuYasha! Thank you, thank you, and thank you! This is so beautiful. You did this for me?" She threw her arms around InuYasha. "Did Totousai craft this?" Inu nodded. "I'll have to thank him next I see him. Will your fang grow back soon?"
"Yeah," he said. "Just another couple of hours."
"Oh, Inu! Thank you soooo much. Does it transform?"
"Sure it will, only after you've become half demon."
"NANI?! But Mama said that…"
"I talked to Mama. She agreed. The sword will transform. When you grow fangs, I'll get Totousai to make you a dagger so that we can keep your youkai blood at bay." Kagome hugged his neck tightly.
Inu smiled. "Next!" he cried happily.
Another oaken box was handed to her. Inside was the most beautiful kimono she had ever seen. The color matched InuYasha's perfectly. It had white and pink sakura blossoms embroidered on the hems. She looked up at him, smiling. "It's gorgeous."
She reached up and embraced him.
"It's made from fire rat, like mine. It'll protect you."
She pulled it put of the box and realized that it wasn't actually a woman's dress kimono. It was a haori, yukata, and hakama. Just like InuYasha wore. Except small enough to fit her nicely.
"You'll be able to move around freely in it and strap your katana to your side."
"I love it Inu, it's so thoughtful." She kissed him.
~~~hours later…. 'Coz I'm lazy~~~~
Everyone gathered in the ballroom and looked up to the altar. Marriage isn't really a Buddhist thing, but Kagome taught Miroku the words. InuYasha and Kagome were knelt on the altar with Miroku standing above them.
"Ladies and gentlemen, we are gathered here today to witness the joining of these two spirits. Who stands for Kagome's father?"
Jii-chan stood. "I stand for her father, as he is unable to be here."
Miroku continued. "Do you willing give your daughter for marriage to InuYasha, hanyou of the West?"
Jii-chan smiled at Kagome. It was her choice and it was making her happy. "Yes, I do."
"Thank you. Now who stands for InuYasha's mother?"
Higurashi-san stood in the same manner as her father. "I will stand for her, as she cannot be here-"
"Wait!" The ceremony was interrupted as a feminine voice called out.
Just then, InuYasha turned to see his mother and father walk into the room, hand in hand. A tear fell from his eye. He stood, grasping Kagome's hand.
"Mother? Father? Is that you?"
"Yes, my son," his mother answered.
He embraced his mother with his free hand and shook his father's hand. "But how…?"
His father smiled. "Son, I think you should direct that question to the young Lady's hand you are holding."
Inu turned to Kagome, stunned.
She smiled. "Kaede told me, that as a miko, I had the ability to connect with the deceased. I wanted to give you the best wedding present I could think of, and I know how terribly you missed your mother and that you've never really known your father. I talked to them and worked a few spells Kaede helped me craft before we left. I arranged for them to come back to life for a week, InuYasha. I wanted them to witness our oaths, and I wanted you to be able to have your mother give you away. And well, there you are. Now go embrace your mother properly."
InuYasha just stood stunned. "You did all that… for me?"
"Of course."
"Kagome, I. Wait, did you not want to bring your father back as well?"
"If I had brought him back, they would only have been able to stay for a day or two… I want you to have time to spend with your parents that you can remember. I have fond memories of my dad. And every once in a while, I may be able to reach him. No, this is your gift."
A tear rolled down InuYasha's cheek. "No doubt, this is the best gift anyone has ever gotten for any reason. Thank you so much Kagome. I love you."
"I love you too."
InuYasha's mother broke in. "And we love both of you. Now can we get this ceremony over and start the youkai one?"
"Of course, Anami-san," Kagome said.
"Anami?" Inu questioned.
"InuYasha, that's my name," the older woman replied.
"Oh," he breathed. Kagome and InuYasha went back to the altar and Inutaisho and Anami took their seats.
Miroku cleared his throat. "Who stands as InuYasha's mother?"
Anami stood. "I do."
"And do you willing give your youngest son away for marriage to Kagome, human miko of Tokyo?"
"I do."
"Thank you. Do you, Kagome Higurashi, take InuYasha of the Inutai clan as yours and only yours?"
"Yes, I do," she replied.
"Will you promise to love him, take care of him, protect him, and never leave his side?"
"I will."
"InuYasha of the Inutai clan, do you take Kagome Higurashi to be yours and only yours?"
"I do." The hanyou smiled.
"And will you love her, take care of her, protect her, and never leave her side?"
"I promise."
"Friends and family, you have all witnessed these sacred vows which cannot be broken. I now present to you InuYasha and his wife, Kagome," Miroku finally finished.
