Kagome watched Inuyasha carefully through the corners of her eyes. The usual group of five were traveling down the dusty path back to the village of Kaede just beyond the borders of the deep forest which was once forbidden. Back from their daily routine of collecting shards, all of them were a little worn out, and just a little tired.
Even with the exhaustion weighing heavily on the five foot-three raven haired girl, she could not help her increasing heartbeats, as her mind roamed into thoughts filled with a particular silver haired hanyou. Shaking her head as if it were to rid of such thoughts, this time Kagome glanced over her two other best friends and partners in battle.
Her eyes couldn’t help zoning in on only one particular area of the couple. They were holding hands. Kagome couldn’t help but also notice the content vibes she felt from the two. She wondered to herself. I wonder when I’ll be like that too.
~Later that evening, the sun is almost gone and Shippou is fast asleep beside a tree not so far off.
“Why don’t you go ahead and take a bath without me Sango-chan.”, said Kagome looking guiltily into the eyes of her tall best friend. “But, what about you, Kagome-chan?”, asked her friend in reply. “I’m not feeling very well today...it must have been the battle earlier on.”, lied Kagome. “Alright then, I’ll let you go for today, but keep an eye on that monk will you?” They both shared a good laugh and Sango headed out for the hot springs just a little into the woods. In truth, Kagome had something she wanted to question Kaede about. But first... “Miroku!”, Kagome called out. “Get over here!” Miroku, caught in the act silently crawled back to his spot against a nearby tree and pretended to be in a fast meditation. Kagome sighed. “That monk will never learn...but at least he knows what he wants.”
Kagome glanced far back to the tree Inuyasha seemed to be resting on. His eyes were closed and the moon shown brightly behind him. His silver hair gleamed of moonlight and slightly swayed to the warm summer breeze. Indeed it was a pretty sight. Especially the ears. This rare scene of a peaceful Inuyasha made Kagome blush slightly and a small secretive smile appeared on Kagome’s face. ‘I wonder if he’s sleeping or thinking of something...someone.’, Kagome thought, ‘...one person I can’t have...he’s too good for me.’ Inuyasha opened one of his eyes just slightly as Kagome was about to turn around. “Kagome.”, said Inuyasha in a small voice soft enough for only Kagome to hear, but loud enough for the wind to carry. “Yea.”, said Kagome in a quick voice as she turned around in half a heart beat. The two’s eyes met and looked at each other for a moment. Time had stopped and the green leaves on the trees made moonlit shadows on the ground.
Kagome needed to figure out words to say and her head was busy searching. “I was thinking Kagome. What’s going to happen to us...to all of us when the shikon no tama is complete?” “Oh..”, said Kagome, “I’m not sure Inuyasha. You said you wanted to become a youkai...but that’s not how you want it now, is it?”, said Kagome looking away. “Yea. I’m gunna keep the way I am now, but that’s not what I was referring to. I meant–what are you going to be doing?” “Is this about the whole I’m only the “shard finder” ordeal?” “You know that’s not what I mean Kagome. I want to know if you’re going to be around after we finish what we set out to do.” Kagome’s heart beat a little faster at these words. -thump thump*thump thump-
“I was thinking that maybe I’ll come visit once in awhile and finish up college in my time, Inuyasha. Maybe I’ll get half a decent job with the little studying I did in highschool while trying to finish this quest. I mean, you guys don’t really need me after the shards have been collected...but why the sudden question?” “Because our tama is almost complete, if you haven’t forgotten and if you are planning to do what you say, that means you won’t be here so often, isn’t it?” “Yes, basically, people do have to survive one way or another.” There was a slight pause after this, but Inuyasha continued. “But, how about staying with me?–I mean all of us? In this time.” Kagome thought she had died. Her face couldn’t help turning crimson. Had Inuyasha just asked her to be with him? Inuyasha saying sweet things? No. It couldn’t have. Life couldn’t be this good.
“Inuyasha.”, said Kagome smiling sweetly. “Osuwari!” *BOOM* Inuyasha fell face forward into the dirt. “What..t-the hell was t-that for!?!”, yelled Inuyasha. “Hahaha, you don’t fool me Inuyasha. Quit your dirty teasing!” Kagome came towards Inuyasha who was peeling his face from the floor. Inuyasha managed to sit upright on the floor. Kagome bent down next to him. “You know”, said Inuyasha rubbing his face. “I meant what I said.” “I know,” whispered Kagome as she leaned sightly forward and gave a slight kiss to Inuyasha’s cheek which made them both blush, Inuyasha out of surprise and Kagome out of surprise of the burst of courage she had gotten just then. Maybe, she thought...just maybe life was great.
Kagome got up and walked to Kaede’s hut-house. As she was about to enter, she had a certain strange premonition. She stopped dead in her tracks and an image of the priestess Kikyo flashed across her mind. Kagome grasped her temples and shook her head once again. “More like “Kick-the-bitch” than Kikyo...really”, whispered Kagome to herself. Perhaps she was feeling sorry for the poor dead girl. She finally had managed to win the heart of the lonely hanyou...or so she had thought.
Kagome turned around to look at the spot where she had left the blushing Inuyasha, but the only thing left was the big crater in the floor beneath the tree. Kagome made herself believe that he had only gone to wash his face or take a breather by walking through the forest.
The young maiden walked in to find Kaede stirring up a new concoction laced with all kinds of herbs from beside the river near the village and from the forest. It was rather amusing to see such an old lady who was rather big, trying to mix the contents in such a small bowl with a rather tiny stone mixer. She was hunched over the small thing, making the bowl look rather pitiful. “Mind if I help, Kaede-obaa chan?”, Kagome offered. “Oh, that would be wonderful, Kagome”, smiled the old lady straightening her back and sighing. “Ah-Kagome, I’m not as young as I used to be~” ‘That’s for sure!’, Kagome thought on the inside. Kagome started giggling a bit and this caught Kaede’s attention. “So...laughing at the old biddy now, eh?” “No, no”, said Kagome stifling an even bigger laugh. “Yes you were Kagome and we both know it.”, said Kaede all knowingly. Kaede smiled and looked down at the child that had become like a granddaughter.
“I have something to talk to you about...”, started Kagome. “Oh good, child, actually, I have a bit of talking to you as well.”, added in Kaede. “Okay then, why don’t you first?”, said Kagome. “Well, as you know, I won’t be here forever and I...”, said Kaede before she was cut off by Kagome. “Don’t start with that dying stuff, baa-chan, that’s not right.”, said Kagome smiling a bit. “This is serious now, so listen well Kagome.”, said Kaede with a serious face. “As you and I both know...actually all of us, including the whole village, know that I will not last forever. One of these days, the village will wake up and their dear old priestess will not be there to protect them. I’m asking you, Kagome, to look over this village when I am gone.” “That’s all?”, asked Kagome. “Why, would you like more?”, joked the old woman. “No, I mean, I thought that was already labeled as my job ever since I’ve known you.”, said Kagome. “I mean, who else is eligible to take on the role?”, laughed Kagome.
“I knew I’d hear positive responses from you, Kagome.”, smiled Kaede making her wrinkles look even more numerous. “Now what was your question?” “Umm...”, said Kagome blushing. “Yes...”, said Kaede. “Well, Iwannaknowwhathappenswhenahumangetstogetherwithayoukai.”, blurted out Kagome. A sweat drop rolled off of Kaede as she said, “Come again? A little bit slower, please.” Kagome shut her eyes and clenched her green skirt in both hands as her hands got sweaty and a furious blush was forming. The tension was tight near Kagome, but a relaxing breeze seemed to flow right past Kaede. “I WANT..TO KNOW.......WHAT HAPPENS WHEN A HUMAN...GETS TOGETHERWITHAYOUKAI!”, shouted Kagome blurring the last bit. “Ah--so you had that in mind did you?”, laughed Kaede, with a full, deep, rich grandmother-like voice.
“I knew you’d eventually ask this some day.” “You did?”, said Kagome wide-eyed. “Yes, very much indeed Kagome.” “The answer is that it’s very much the same as humans, but a little rougher.” “Rougher?”, asked Kagome with another laugh coming on. “Yes, Kagome. Rougher.” “But, what’s that supposed to mean?” “I dunno, child.” Kagome fell backwards and an even bigger sweat drop formed between the two of them. “So then where did you get the idea that it was rougher?”, asked Kagome, full of unanswered questions. “Someone told me.”, Kaede replied. “They made it sound believable, so I took it as the truth.” “But they said nothing more than that?” “Well, they did say some other things, but my mind is going and I can’t remember much more than what I’ve already told you.” “So then it’s rougher, huh?”, said Kagome keeping it in memory. “Rougher it is then!”, said Kagome brightly.
Kagome hopped off to find her friend Sango, when she was greeted by a pleasant bump into someone as she was leaving the hut. “Sango!”, Kagome yelled. It was more like screeched though, as she was thoroughly surprised. “I thought you were taking a bath!” “I was, but then that stupid damn houshi got there and I quickly finished up my bathing. I thought I told you to watch him?”, Sango looked at Kagome. “I was, but then I went to ask Kaede something...but I did catch him trying to sneak off...once.”, Kagome quickly finished off her sentence. “Oh once, huh?, Kagome- chan.”, laughed Sango.
“Anyways,” said Kagome eyeing the spot Inuyasha once had been. “Have you seen Inuyasha recently?” “Well, in fact, on my way back here, after pummeling bird brain over there (*Sango turns to give a beat up Miroku the evil eye, then turns back to face Kagome smiling sweetly*), I stopped to see Inuyasha running towards the Goushinboku.” “Really? Why would he be running?”, thought Kagome out loud. “Maybe he saw a squirrel.”, joked Sango. “I mean he is half dog after all.” “Hahahahaha,”, laughed Kagome. But just as her laughter was about to cease, Kagome had another flash of Kikyo’s picture in her head...and this time, she wasn’t alone. The person standing next to her was... “Inuyasha!”, Kagome called out suddenly angered at the thought. “What’s the matter Kagome!”, called her worried friend. “Sorry Sango. I’m just going to go and check up on Inuyasha, ok?” Sango eyed her friend in a worried state. “You sure you don’t need me to come with you?” “No. It’s ok Sango-chan. I’ll be right back.” As Kagome ran towards the woods, Sango called out, “Be careful, Kagome! Especially since the sun has gone down!”
Kagome ran the way there. ‘That flash of picture across my mind! It happened again! Am I going crazy?’, she thought to herself. ‘It looked so real. It can’t be just me seeing things...maybe the battle earlier has affected me, after all.” Kagome continually ran and slowed down as she neared the Goushinboku.
As expected, Inuyasha was standing there right by the tree. His hand was sliding down the spot where he had been marked as sleeping beauty, or in his case, “half dead”, as he was shot through the heart by the very priestess he had feelings for, 50 years ago. Kagome smiled and decided there was nothing to worry about. She thought about joining him and called out for him.
“Inu--” *But things always find a way to come up when all is well.*
Kagome’s eyes lost their sparkle and a dark vision of the deepest black shot across her head. It hurt to be there. Kagome lost her balance and fell to the moonlit forest floor. Kikyo! It was her again in that red and white formal priestess outfit. Her head started pounding at the thoughts of Kikyo which were flooding in non stop. How Kagome hated those clothes after coming to know Kikyo. But that wasn’t why she fell.
Inuyasha had just finished telling her about spending rest of eternity with her and he goes off to ‘Kick-the-bitch’?!
Kagome sat there watching them not sure of what to do. Her heart and head hurt and the same thoughts tear across her head. Inuyasha still loves her and can’t forget about her...even when I’m here..
This wasn’t fair. No. It wasn’t right! Kikyo the living mannequin. The living clay doll! The replica of a dead woman– that’s right! She wasn’t even the real thing!! An old witch had made her out of bones and earth!
Kagome’s heart was racing––––– her thoughts were racing. Her very soul was searching for answers. Kagome’s head was screaming.
‘I’m here INUYASHA!! I’m real and I’m here! I’m ALIVE damn it!!!’ Tears threatened to fall down the empty eyes of the black haired girl. It hurt. It hurt so much. ‘You’re wrenching my heart and you don’t even know you idiot!’
Kagome wiped her eyes and continued to look at the pair. She couldn’t cry over something like this. She’d caught him in the same act before, after all. Her head was pounding less now for some reason.
“The shikon no tama is almost complete.”, said Inuyasha.
“I can feel it. The pieces are calling out to me.”, said the dead woman in the most monotonous voice.
“I plan on making you whole again.”, said Inuyasha. “If I make you into a real person, it’s like we can start over from the beginning. Both of us– not faltering for any tricks by that damn Naraku.” Inuyasha smiled at his words and grabbed a hold of Kikyo. Kikyo’s eyes widened, but then settled back into the usual boring stare. She also took hold of Inuyasha and both of them were in a strong embrace as if to never let go. Kagome watching their every move from behind the tree grabbed onto the trunk and shed her last tears from her secret hiding place.
Inuyasha turned his head from resting on the shoulder of Kikyo and took a quick sniff around the area, because he thought he had took in a familiar scent.. A certain smell hit him hard and he jerked suddenly backwards out of Kikyo’s grasp. “What is it, Inuyasha?”, asked Kikyo. Inuyasha looked frantically around and kept sniffing the area. He confirmed the smell. “Kagome...”, he whispered. Kikyo could care less. She was already dead anyways.
How could he have noticed it before?! How long had she been there? She didn’t just hear what... ‘Ah shit!’, thought Inuyasha.
Kagome heard him say her name, as quiet as it may have been, she had heard it. Her heart thumped even faster, but just to startle Inuyasha, Kagome shot straight up from the spot she had been sitting on. Her eyes were completely hidden behind her dark hair, so as to not show Inuyasha and especially Kikyo that she had been crying.
“So...”, started Kagome.
“It’s not what you think Kagome!, said the impatient Inuyasha who was still grasping one of Kick-the-bitch’s sleeves in one hand without realizing. Kagome startled Inuyasha even more with a smile and a mere small laugh. “Did you have fun laughing at me, with her?” “I told you this isn’t what it looks li– .”, but Inuyasha was cut off. “–AND!”, stated Kagome. “DID YOU HAVE FUN LAUGHING AT ME ON THE INSIDE AND TELLING ME ALL THAT CRAP???!!!”, yelled Kagome showing her face now, puffy eyes and all, but she was still smiling. “Did you find it really amusing to see someone blushing every time they were near you?!”, shouted Kagome. “Why can’t you see that I’m alive? Does it even mean anything to you?(>XO!!)”, Kagome quit smiling. “All those times I cheered for you and gave you my heart, you were always laughing at me on the inside....I really am just a tool to comfort you, huh?”, tears which she thought had stopped began to flow so easily. Her voice sounded funny, but she didn’t really care. It hurt standing there in front of those two. It hurt even worse knowing that her speech would change little.
Kagome looked straight into the golden eyes and managed to smile again, still with tears flowing freely. “It looks like I’m the fool,” said Kagome in her sweet voice which had turned sort of bubbly with all the crying. “...how ugly I must look compared to the perfect, dead, clay corpse.!”
Inuyasha stared at Kagome, with a loss of words. Part of him was torn apart that she was crying and wanted to hold her. But the part of him that had grown and matured for this moment told him to stay still. He turned his head away and closed his eyes. What Kagome said to him just now was not totally true. He still cared...but there was always that guilty feeling with enjoying life besides Kagome, when he should have equally suffered the day Kikyo died. For that reason alone, he had to do the right thing.
“Thanks for letting me live my own fairytale, but don’t do one again, cuz you suck at it Inuyasha! Fairy tales have happy endings!”
Kagome turned and ran. Away from the village and away from the damn tree. Right now, she didn’t care that her face was all a mess. She also didn’t care that she didn’t make much sense when she was yelling blindly. Kagome had left Inuyasha speechless, standing there with his clay hoe. He would think she would run to the comforts of her best friend, Sango, but no one could help her now. She had lost her heart within thirty minutes time, after just hearing someone propose to her, the very person had thrown her away.
She ran through the woods not looking at where she was heading. She couldn’t care less right now where she ended up, because she was humiliated and lost inside. She couldn’t face the shame and embarrassment of the group she had came to know as her close friends, so all she could do was run in the opposite direction. A couple of times she ran into low branches and bushes. She scared away a couple of animals along the way, but she wouldn’t stop running. Tears were still coming out from embarrassment and sadness. Kagome fell over a couple of times as well. She was now thoroughly dirty and puffy, with a few rips in her shirt and skirt. Her mind was blank from shock, but she couldn’t help feeling the insides of her chest pounding.
Kagome must have run and wandered for at least an hour in the complete opposite direction of Kaede’s village because she did not recognize the place. Although she was still in the woods, it was a part she had never seen before, or at least didn’t recognize. ‘Stupid! You get dumped and lost-all in the same day! I wouldn’t be surprised if you got eaten by some monster now!’, said Kagome in her mind to herself. It was getting pretty late. Just as she was about to sit and rest up a bit before she started looking for a place to settle in for the night, she heard a few voices, but one very annoying one in particular. It was heading closer to her!
“–aru sama! You should rest now! You’ve worked so hard already!”, called out the annoying one of them, as the voices were beginning to grow, nearing Kagome. Kagome hid behind one of the bushes. ‘Hiding again, dimwit?’, said Kagome in her head, verbally abusing herself. ‘You’re sure to get yourself killed now.’ Kagome shut her eyes and rested her head on her knees, not wanting to be caught.
“Be quiet.”, said a cool and recollected voice, deep and soothing. It made Kagome want to listen to a story told by that voice, just before going to sleep. The same soothing voice began to speak again. “There is something in the bushes over there. Go see to it. It seems weakened already. ‘Oh no! I’ve been found!’, thought Kagome. ‘What should I do! What should I do?!’ The annoying voice spoke up, this time a little pleased. “Do not worry! This one will take care of the little problems for my master! You must not worry yourself over such trivial things!” A third voice was heard. “Wai wai! Jaken is going to kill a monster!”, cried a cheerful, happy, young voice.
Kagome crept forward a little to see if they were in fact talking about her. As Kagome stuck her head out from the bushes, a midget green blur sped towards her and jumped. It was dark and Kagome couldn’t see very well, but the moonlight showed it was carrying a sort of staff. Before Kagome could even realize she was really under attack by that small thing, her head was hit hard with the wooden stick and Kagome fell hard out onto the open clearing where the three figures and a double headed horselike thing stood. It didn’t especially hurt a lot, but Kagome was losing strength fast. Kagome eyes led her to the tallest figure that seemed to be emitting off a lot of moonlight. It’s hair was very long and pure silver. It’s deep golden stare and slit pupils could not be mistaken. Just before Kagome shut her eyes into a deep slumber of unconsciousness, she saw double, then triple of the tall lighted figure. Its deep golden eyes etched into her memory. It had been a long hard day. And she had fallen into the grasp of the strongest “monster” of all.
“...seshou.................maru................”, the raven haired girl whispered and gave way to her fatigued body and mind.
~~~~~~~~~*Somewhere in the woods, a little girl screamed out, “Jaken killed her!” and no less than three feet away, standing no more than 2 feet tall, a short ‘thing’ argued, “I DID NOT!”
The tension was tight near Kagome, but a relaxing breeze seemed to flow right past Kaede. “I WANT..TO KNOW.......WHAT HAPPENS WHEN A HUMAN...GETS TOGETHERWITHAYOUKAI!”, shouted Kagome blurring the last bit. “Ah--so you had that in mind did you?”, laughed Kaede, with a full, deep, rich grandmother-like voice.
“I knew you’d eventually ask this some day.” “You did?”, said Kagome wide-eyed. “Yes, very much indeed Kagome.” “The answer is that it’s very much the same as humans, but a little rougher.” “Rougher?”, asked Kagome with another laugh coming on. “Yes, Kagome. Rougher.” “But, what’s that supposed to mean?” “I dunno, child.” Kagome fell backwards and an even bigger sweat drop formed between the two of them. “So then where did you get the idea that it was rougher?”, asked Kagome, full of unanswered questions. “Someone told me.”, Kaede replied. “They made it sound believable, so I took it as the truth.” “But they said nothing more than that?” “Well, they did say some other things, but my mind is going and I can’t remember much more than what I’ve already told you.” “So then it’s rougher, huh?”, said Kagome keeping it in memory. “Rougher it is then!”, said Kagome brightly.
Kagome hopped off to find her friend Sango, when she was greeted by a pleasant bump into someone as she was leaving the hut. “Sango!”, Kagome yelled. It was more like screeched though, as she was thoroughly surprised. “I thought you were taking a bath!” “I was, but then that stupid damn houshi got there and I quickly finished up my bathing. I thought I told you to watch him?”, Sango looked at Kagome. “I was, but then I went to ask Kaede something...but I did catch him trying to sneak off...once.”, Kagome quickly finished off her sentence. “Oh once, huh?, Kagome- chan.”, laughed Sango.
“Anyways,” said Kagome eyeing the spot Inuyasha once had been. “Have you seen Inuyasha recently?” “Well, in fact, on my way back here, after pummeling bird brain over there (*Sango turns to give a beat up Miroku the evil eye, then turns back to face Kagome smiling sweetly*), I stopped to see Inuyasha running towards the Goushinboku.” “Really? Why would he be running?”, thought Kagome out loud. “Maybe he saw a squirrel.”, joked Sango. “I mean he is half dog after all.” “Hahahahaha,”, laughed Kagome. But just as her laughter was about to cease, Kagome had another flash of Kikyo’s picture in her head...and this time, she wasn’t alone. The person standing next to her was... “Inuyasha!”, Kagome called out suddenly angered at the thought. “What’s the matter Kagome!”, called her worried friend. “Sorry Sango. I’m just going to go and check up on Inuyasha, ok?” Sango eyed her friend in a worried state. “You sure you don’t need me to come with you?” “No. It’s ok Sango-chan. I’ll be right back.” As Kagome ran towards the woods, Sango called out, “Be careful, Kagome! Especially since the sun has gone down!”
Kagome ran the way there. ‘That flash of picture across my mind! It happened again! Am I going crazy?’, she thought to herself. ‘It looked so real. It can’t be just me seeing things...maybe the battle earlier has affected me, after all.” Kagome continually ran and slowed down as she neared the Goushinboku.
As expected, Inuyasha was standing there right by the tree. His hand was sliding down the spot where he had been marked as sleeping beauty, or in his case, “half dead”, as he was shot through the heart by the very priestess he had feelings for, 50 years ago. Kagome smiled and decided there was nothing to worry about. She thought about joining him and called out for him.
“Inu--” *But things always find a way to come up when all is well.*
Kagome’s eyes lost their sparkle and a dark vision of the deepest black shot across her head. It hurt to be there. Kagome lost her balance and fell to the moonlit forest floor. Kikyo! It was her again in that red and white formal priestess outfit. Her head started pounding at the thoughts of Kikyo which were flooding in non stop. How Kagome hated those clothes after coming to know Kikyo. But that wasn’t why she fell.
Inuyasha had just finished telling her about spending rest of eternity with her and he goes off to ‘Kick-the-bitch’?!
Kagome sat there watching them not sure of what to do. Her heart and head hurt and the same thoughts tear across her head. Inuyasha still loves her and can’t forget about her...even when I’m here..
This wasn’t fair. No. It wasn’t right! Kikyo the living mannequin. The living clay doll! The replica of a dead woman– that’s right! She wasn’t even the real thing!! An old witch had made her out of bones and earth!
Kagome’s heart was racing––––– her thoughts were racing. Her very soul was searching for answers. Kagome’s head was screaming.
‘I’m here INUYASHA!! I’m real and I’m here! I’m ALIVE damn it!!!’ Tears threatened to fall down the empty eyes of the black haired girl. It hurt. It hurt so much. ‘You’re wrenching my heart and you don’t even know you idiot!’
Kagome wiped her eyes and continued to look at the pair. She couldn’t cry over something like this. She’d caught him in the same act before, after all. Her head was pounding less now for some reason.
“The shikon no tama is almost complete.”, said Inuyasha.
“I can feel it. The pieces are calling out to me.”, said the dead woman in the most monotonous voice.
“I plan on making you whole again.”, said Inuyasha. “If I make you into a real person, it’s like we can start over from the beginning. Both of us– not faltering for any tricks by that damn Naraku.” Inuyasha smiled at his words and grabbed a hold of Kikyo. Kikyo’s eyes widened, but then settled back into the usual boring stare. She also took hold of Inuyasha and both of them were in a strong embrace as if to never let go. Kagome watching their every move from behind the tree grabbed onto the trunk and shed her last tears from her secret hiding place.
Inuyasha turned his head from resting on the shoulder of Kikyo and took a quick sniff around the area, because he thought he had took in a familiar scent.. A certain smell hit him hard and he jerked suddenly backwards out of Kikyo’s grasp. “What is it, Inuyasha?”, asked Kikyo. Inuyasha looked frantically around and kept sniffing the area. He confirmed the smell. “Kagome...”, he whispered. Kikyo could care less. She was already dead anyways.
How could he have noticed it before?! How long had she been there? She didn’t just hear what... ‘Ah shit!’, thought Inuyasha.
Kagome heard him say her name, as quiet as it may have been, she had heard it. Her heart thumped even faster, but just to startle Inuyasha, Kagome shot straight up from the spot she had been sitting on. Her eyes were completely hidden behind her dark hair, so as to not show Inuyasha and especially Kikyo that she had been crying.
“So...”, started Kagome.
“It’s not what you think Kagome!, said the impatient Inuyasha who was still grasping one of Kick-the-bitch’s sleeves in one hand without realizing. Kagome startled Inuyasha even more with a smile and a mere small laugh. “Did you have fun laughing at me, with her?” “I told you this isn’t what it looks li– .”, but Inuyasha was cut off. “–AND!”, stated Kagome. “DID YOU HAVE FUN LAUGHING AT ME ON THE INSIDE AND TELLING ME ALL THAT CRAP???!!!”, yelled Kagome showing her face now, puffy eyes and all, but she was still smiling. “Did you find it really amusing to see someone blushing every time they were near you?!”, shouted Kagome. “Why can’t you see that I’m alive? Does it even mean anything to you?(>XO!!)”, Kagome quit smiling. “All those times I cheered for you and gave you my heart, you were always laughing at me on the inside....I really am just a tool to comfort you, huh?”, tears which she thought had stopped began to flow so easily. Her voice sounded funny, but she didn’t really care. It hurt standing there in front of those two. It hurt even worse knowing that her speech would change little.
Kagome looked straight into the golden eyes and managed to smile again, still with tears flowing freely. “It looks like I’m the fool,” said Kagome in her sweet voice which had turned sort of bubbly with all the crying. “...how ugly I must look compared to the perfect, dead, clay corpse.!”
Inuyasha stared at Kagome, with a loss of words. Part of him was torn apart that she was crying and wanted to hold her. But the part of him that had grown and matured for this moment told him to stay still. He turned his head away and closed his eyes. What Kagome said to him just now was not totally true. He still cared...but there was always that guilty feeling with enjoying life besides Kagome, when he should have equally suffered the day Kikyo died. For that reason alone, he had to do the right thing.
“Thanks for letting me live my own fairytale, but don’t do one again, cuz you suck at it Inuyasha! Fairy tales have happy endings!”
Kagome turned and ran. Away from the village and away from the damn tree. Right now, she didn’t care that her face was all a mess. She also didn’t care that she didn’t make much sense when she was yelling blindly. Kagome had left Inuyasha speechless, standing there with his clay hoe. He would think she would run to the comforts of her best friend, Sango, but no one could help her now. She had lost her heart within thirty minutes time, after just hearing someone propose to her, the very person had thrown her away.
She ran through the woods not looking at where she was heading. She couldn’t care less right now where she ended up, because she was humiliated and lost inside. She couldn’t face the shame and embarrassment of the group she had came to know as her close friends, so all she could do was run in the opposite direction. A couple of times she ran into low branches and bushes. She scared away a couple of animals along the way, but she wouldn’t stop running. Tears were still coming out from embarrassment and sadness. Kagome fell over a couple of times as well. She was now thoroughly dirty and puffy, with a few rips in her shirt and skirt. Her mind was blank from shock, but she couldn’t help feeling the insides of her chest pounding.
Kagome must have run and wandered for at least an hour in the complete opposite direction of Kaede’s village because she did not recognize the place. Although she was still in the woods, it was a part she had never seen before, or at least didn’t recognize. ‘Stupid! You get dumped and lost-all in the same day! I wouldn’t be surprised if you got eaten by some monster now!’, said Kagome in her mind to herself. It was getting pretty late. Just as she was about to sit and rest up a bit before she started looking for a place to settle in for the night, she heard a few voices, but one very annoying one in particular. It was heading closer to her!
“–aru sama! You should rest now! You’ve worked so hard already!”, called out the annoying one of them, as the voices were beginning to grow, nearing Kagome. Kagome hid behind one of the bushes. ‘Hiding again, dimwit?’, said Kagome in her head, verbally abusing herself. ‘You’re sure to get yourself killed now.’ Kagome shut her eyes and rested her head on her knees, not wanting to be caught.
“Be quiet.”, said a cool and recollected voice, deep and soothing. It made Kagome want to listen to a story told by that voice, just before going to sleep. The same soothing voice began to speak again. “There is something in the bushes over there. Go see to it. It seems weakened already. ‘Oh no! I’ve been found!’, thought Kagome. ‘What should I do! What should I do?!’ The annoying voice spoke up, this time a little pleased. “Do not worry! This one will take care of the little problems for my master! You must not worry yourself over such trivial things!” A third voice was heard. “Wai wai! Jaken is going to kill a monster!”, cried a cheerful, happy, young voice.
Kagome crept forward a little to see if they were in fact talking about her. As Kagome stuck her head out from the bushes, a midget green blur sped towards her and jumped. It was dark and Kagome couldn’t see very well, but the moonlight showed it was carrying a sort of staff. Before Kagome could even realize she was really under attack by that small thing, her head was hit hard with the wooden stick and Kagome fell hard out onto the open clearing where the three figures and a double headed horselike thing stood. It didn’t especially hurt a lot, but Kagome was losing strength fast. Kagome eyes led her to the tallest figure that seemed to be emitting off a lot of moonlight. It’s hair was very long and pure silver. It’s deep golden stare and slit pupils could not be mistaken. Just before Kagome shut her eyes into a deep slumber of unconsciousness, she saw double, then triple of the tall lighted figure. Its deep golden eyes etched into her memory. It had been a long hard day. And she had fallen into the grasp of the strongest “monster” of all.
“...seshou.................maru................”, the raven haired girl whispered and gave way to her fatigued body and mind.
~~~~~~~~~*Somewhere in the woods, a little girl screamed out, “Jaken killed her!” and no less than three feet away, standing no more than 2 feet tall, a short ‘thing’ argued, “I DID NOT!”
