Part 12

He couldn’t sleep. Tossing and turning in his bed all night, he tried to fight off the images that threatened to consume and take over his entire being. Gray-blue orbs appeared, hunting him every time he dared close his eyes.

He felt ashamed by how stupid and blind he was. How could he not see that it was she? The same little girl that he kept fighting every day for, just to get the chance to see her again - to be with her again. And now it was all for nothing.

She didn’t remember him. Her reaction and attitude towards him said it all. All she felt for him was cold hatred. It was doubtable but possible that she didn’t recognize him. After all, he never did give her his name, or a time, or a place of when he was going to see her again. And at the time, he didn’t think it was important. All that mattered was getting her somewhere safe. Somewhere his father wouldn’t find her.

Inu Yasha had lucked out that night. It was a miracle on its own how he had gotten her out of that living room without his father seeing from across the room, or that he hadn’t heard her crying for that matter.

But now that the youkai actually thought about it, there was no way that his father would have missed it. Sure, the old smell of blood and decaying bodies was enough to drown out her humanly scent, but there was nothing that could have stopped him from hearing her cry out. No matter how softly it was.

Then it dawned on him. His father had known all along. Had allowed Inu Yasha to sneak her out of the house. Even called off his men that were patrolling the grounds in and out of the house. All, in order to leave him and Kagome enough space and time to get out without detection.

Inu Yasha rolled onto his back, his hands tucked behind his head. A kind of warm smile touched his lips just barely. He never would have thought that the Great Taiyoukai of the Western Lands and most powerful demon alive would show an act of generosity towards a little human girl.

It really was amazing, to say the least.

Now the question was… why had he saved her?

It couldn’t have been out of pity or sympathy for the loss of her family. He had seen countless people who had lost their families, not in the same way but similar, yet he never felt an ounce of pity, sadness or sympathy for any of them. Not until he met a blue-eyed little girl named Kagome.

‘Kagome…’

Inu Yasha could feel his heart beat quicken at the mere thought of the raven haired beauty. He had come to the conclusion that he was attracted to her. There was no denying that anymore. The way his skin would tingle, how his breathe would catch with his heartbeat picking up in tempo, and how warmth would spread low in his gut.

Sure, she had changed. Her body had grown and formed into that of a fine, beautiful woman. Her hair was longer, fuller than he remembered. The straight black hair was now full of volume and life in soft waves that descended down her back. But it was her eyes that had fooled him the most.

Yes… it was the eyes. Never had he ever seen anything so pure, so innocent in life. The way her blue eyes had looked so fearful, yet so brave at the same time. He would see her fear and sadness through those deep eyes, which even he couldn’t bring himself to turn and walk away from. Even now he found himself wanting to protect that, to never allow it to be shaken or broken.

But it was broken, and now it was gone. Years of living with the horrifying memories of her parents’ death no doubt haunted her dreams, her thoughts. The possibility of the images ever fading with time was doubtable.

‘I helped do this to her… I helped destroy her life…’

Inu Yasha closed his eyes on the sudden twist of pain inside of his chest, the mixture of guilt and remorse hitting him hard. He could feel the cold sting behind his eyes, identifying the feeling as tears that threatened to fall. He refused to give in, allowing his pain and hurt to fill him completely but forcing himself to keep from crying out in sorrow. He knew full well that it wouldn’t do anything to change the fact that he had helped to destroy someone’s life and ruined another’s future of happiness.

His ears flattened at the blaring sound of his alarm clock, his eyelids opening to reveal red-streaked eyes. Shakily he reached out and shut off the annoying sound, sighing to himself as the red letters glared at him in the dark, as if it knew of his haunted past, and hated him for it.

Inu Yasha sighed again, putting the alarm clock back on its place on the night stand. Searching out the soreness in his muscles before moving to get out of bed, he threw the covers off to the side and stood up.

He visibly shivered as his bare feet touched the ground, but he didn’t feel the cold. With a numbness in his heart, Inu Yasha started to gather his things for the busy day ahead, pulling out the blue school uniform that was mailed to them the other day after getting him registered and the black book bag that came with it.

Deciding to skip taking a shower that morning, he slowly began to dress, slipping the loose fabric up his legs and over his boxers. He left the fly undone, moving to pull on the white dress shirt, buttoning up the front before tucking in the bottom and doing up his pants. The black belt was next, followed by the long-sleeved blue jacket, then black dress shoes to finish off the outfit.

He straightened after tying each shoe up, turning to his left to view his mirror reflected image through the darkness. He could see the dullness in his eyes, almost like the life in him had been sucked out. Small, barely visible bags could be seen under his eyes, showing off the lack of sleep from the previous night.

Strangely, he found the corner of his mouth twitching up ever so slightly in mocking humor. He looked exactly the way he felt. Drained, miserable, depressed - all of which he felt he deserved to look and feel.

Shaking his head as if to clear it from unwanted thoughts, Inu Yasha chuckled. Grabbing his bag, he headed for the door, making up his mind that he would deal with his emotions and thoughts later- after school and after seeing Kagome.

~ * ~

The drive to the school was quiet, no one even attempting to make conversation, all of them having felt the tight tension in the air during breakfast. Especially the strain that surrounded Inu Yasha and Kagome.

Neither one of them spoke or even graced the other with a glance, content with just simply ignoring the other. Well, Kagome was doing the ignoring and Inu Yasha doing the thinking.

He was determined to make her happy again, to bring the light back into her eyes that shined with life, to make her understand what had really happened that night wasn’t his fault and that his family had nothing to do with it. And lastly, he wanted to make her see him.

Even if he couldn’t have her as his own, at least he could try and be friends with her.

Black gates opened and welcomed them, greeting them with a long, straight driveway. No trees surrounded the pavement, leaving them a clear view of the school up ahead. It looked like an old mansion, the walls made of brick and stone. Windows reflected the morning rays off of their clean surfaces, the woodwork around them looking elegant and well crafted. A stone platform led from the front doors before separating into two different set of stairs to the left and right, creating a small ‘v’ in between filled with a bed of flowers of different shapes and colors.

The road looked as if it curved a few feet away from the steps, allowing people enough room to exit their vehicles. Inu Yasha watched silently as they approached, seeing several teenagers already getting out of parked cars - walking off to talk amongst each other or up the stairs into the enormous building.

Suddenly, he felt very annoyed about the whole agreement, questioning himself why he had agreed to such a stupid idea in the first place. A movement to this right drew his attention, his vision filled with that of the one he had sworn to protect, and through her own act of bravery and willpower, had forced him to act on that vow without question.

With renewed determination of his own, Inu Yasha closed his eyes, whispering softly to himself in a chant, allowing the power of the rosary around his neck to pulse, filling the air in the car with its soft glow. Its magic went to work at concealing his ears from onlookers and casting his silvery white hair into the endless shade of darkness.

The light died down as they reached the curve in front of the school steps, and Inu Yasha opened his once golden eyes to show hypnotic amethyst. Without missing a beat, he opened the door and stepped out into the morning air, ignoring the sudden looks that were sent his way.

Kagome followed soon after, coming around the front end of the car to stop beside him. He watched as she straightened her bag into a more comfortable position on her back, flipping her hair this way and that in the process.

“I’ll be back at four-thirty to pick you guys up,” Sango said. “Inu Yasha, Kagome will show you where the office is before heading to class. You’ll be given your schedule and expected to head straight to class.” Seeing that neither was listening, she cleared her throat a little to get their attention. “Please try and get along. I don’t want to get a call at work about you two fighting.”

With a “feh” and an eye-roll as her answers, Sango pulled away and headed back down the drive, leaving the two of them alone on the side of the curve to stare after her.

Kagome sent a small glance his way before turning to head into the building. “Come on, I’ll show you where the office is.”

Inu Yasha followed right behind her, still remaining silent. He was trying his best not to make a smart-ass comment about how the light breeze caused her already short skirt to ride even higher up her thighs, giving him a very nice view of her tanned skin, as well as a small glimpse of her underwear.

Despite himself, he found himself smiling and sneaking small glances at her butt or her legs when he was sure she wasn’t looking or was trying to ignore him. Even after clearing the front doors and spending several minutes walking down the hall, he continued to sneak glance after glance.

He didn’t even notice when they stopped in front of a pair of wooden glass doors, nor did his brain process the fact that she was speaking to him again. His eyes and attention were glued to her long, luscious legs.

He heard her clear her throat but took his time looking up at her, allowing his eyes to trail slowly up the curves of her body, his tongue snaking out of his mouth to slowly wet his dry lips. He could smell her anger as well as her arousal as she visibly shivered under his heated gaze.

Inu Yasha lingered at her breasts, his eyes taking in every little movement that her breathing caused. He looked at her then, peering at her through his bangs, not even trying to hide the heat and passion that stirred in his eyes.

He smirked as her scent sparked, the small faded pink across her cheeks now reddening to a full out blush. He liked her blushing; it seemed to bring out the more feminine features in her face, not to mention how the color appeared to bring out the angry spark that flashed in her deep blue eyes.

He was having fun with this. With her. Making her squirm and shift uncomfortably under his gaze was rather amusing, much more fun than just arguing with her. Though, that did have its moments all on its own. But then again… what would it be like to see them combined? Her passion and anger all rolled into one?

Inu Yasha’s smirk grew, deciding to test out this new found information that he required. “You sure you wanna leave? I could have sworn that I saw a janitor closet just down the hall…”

Kagome’s eyes widened as her brain processed the meaning of his words, her face reddening even more, the heat almost burning her. She could feel her temper rise as well as a small cooling sensation spread in between her legs.

She stood there staring at him, her body numb from shock. The words that came to her stuck in her throat as she continued to gape and stare at the now grinning youkai who was quite obviously enjoying himself with her reaction.

Taking advantage of her shaken state, Inu Yasha leaned in close, his nose just inches away from touching her cheek. He breathed in deeply, taking in her delicious scent before running the very tip of his tongue up the surface.

He couldn’t help the urge to laugh as she gasped and pulled away from the small contact, stumbling and almost falling to the floor in her attempt to get away from him. He could smell her desire increase in strength, and it was all he could not to throw her over his shoulder and make good of his words.

Kagome narrowed her eyes at him as he laughed, knowing full well what it was he was trying to do, and hating the fact that he was succeeding. Her cheek tingled from his touch, much like her lips did that one night that he kissed her.

She lifted her head up high, forcing herself to stop from blushing any more than she already was. She took a step back as he made to move toward her again, giving him a heated look that said not to push his luck anymore than he already had, then thanking every god and goddess that she knew of for him taking heed of her little warning, keeping his distance from her.

“I suggest that you behave yourself, youkai, for I will have no problem dropping you where you stand.” Kagome cheered silently in her head at how calm and steady her voice had come out. “If you so much as look at me in any way I find uninviting or in any way I dislike, you will be placed in an early grave.”

With that said, Kagome turned on her heel and walked away from a still grinning youkai, finding it amazing that she was so calm and straight when her legs left rubbery and weak.

Inu Yasha waited until she had turned down the hall before letting out the burst of laughter that he had been holding in. He never would have imagined how entertaining flustering her like that could be. He would have to do it again sometime. Especially when her eyes would flash in both desire and rage, the combination doing wonders to his own body.

Yes… he would have to do it again sometime. Even if nothing would ever happen, it was still pleasurable to watch her body react to his words the way it did.

Walking through the wooden glass doors, Inu Yasha couldn’t help but wonder what it would be like to taste at such a state. Would she be hot and wet, yet furious and passionate at the same time?

Inu Yasha smiled, a plot already forming in his mind at how he could find out.

~ * ~

Kagome could feel her anger start to diminish. It was replaced by annoyance and boredom as she sat in her desk watching her Calculus teacher write something on the white board.

She sighed again for what seemed like the umpteenth time in the last hour, wishing that the last half hour of class would just hurry up and end the quiet nightmare that she called first period, or at least for something exciting or interesting to happen. Anything but the numbers and explanations that the teacher kept rambling on and on about.

‘I wonder how Inu Yasha is faring out… It shouldn’t have taken him an hour to get his schedule, should it? And why am I even thinking about him?! It’s not like I like him or anything…’

She had to admit, there was something about him that seemed to pull her towards him. It was a strange feeling, to say the least, especially with her being a miko and him a youkai. But she knew that he was different somehow… She felt safe and protected whenever she was around him.

And that brought another thing to her attention. Somehow, he seemed strangely familiar to her. Like she had met him or at least seen him before. When or where was something she couldn’t figure out. But that sense of familiarity was there… and it scared her to no end.

The way he looked at her with those molten gold eyes, how they seem to hide so much yet tell just as much in return... She could see the care and passion he felt inside, as well as the hurt and pain that was buried deep within. And astonishingly, she found herself wanting him to confide in her. She wanted to be the one to help ease the heartache that he had, to soothe and comfort him when he needed it.

What was it about him that brought out these kinds of feelings for him?

So lost in her thoughts, Kagome didn’t even notice the teacher stop talking altogether or the door closing, for that matter. She seemed completely content with ignoring everything and everyone in the entire classroom at the moment, the thoughts in her head seeming more important to her than anything else.

“Wow… what a hunk!” the girl in front of her whispered hoarsely. “Man, I wouldn’t mind getting to know him.”

“I’d say,” agreed another to the right. “Ruff-ruff…”

“Um-hmm…” the first nodded, licking her lips as she eyed the new student that arrived. “What do you think, Kagome?”

Kagome jumped slightly at the sound of her name being called. She looked up to see Eri sitting in front of her, grinning wildly as if she found something new to talk and gossip about. She peered to her other friend who was sitting to Eri’s right, Ayumi, waiting patiently for her to answer.

“Huh?” Kagome replied unintelligently

Eri rolled her eyes at her friend’s response, most likely due to her spacing out in the middle of class again. “The new guy, Kags,” she pressed, nodding towards the front of the room. “What do you think of him?”

Kagome arched a brow in confusion, turning her gaze to where Eri was indicating, then mentally groaning to herself as she spotted none other than Inu Yasha himself standing in front of the white board.

She could tell that he was annoyed with everyone staring at him: the way his shoulders slumped, how tense his back seemed. His hands were shoved not too gentlemanly into his front pockets. And she found it amazing that no one was cowering away from the dark scowl that crossed his handsome features.

‘Great… and I was hoping to make it through first class without having to see him…’

“Welcome, welcome. I’m Mrs. Yugami, and let me be the first to welcome you to the class.” Her smile did nothing to remove the scowl from Inu Yasha’s face, but indeed made it worse.

The whole time he was in that suffocating office his presence had everyone either staring dreamily at him and giving him shy, flirting looks, females namely, or pestering him with question after question. It was really starting to get on his nerves.

“Everyone, I would like you to welcome our new student who has just transferred from public school in Kyoto,” the teacher went on, ignoring or missing the warning look that was sent her way from two different people. “This is Youkai Inu.”

Inu Yasha rolled his eyes at the several giggles that filling room at the sound of his name. He wasn’t too happy with the names that the council had picked for him, but there was nothing he could do. After all, he wanted his last name the same. He didn’t mind being called “Inu” or “Yasha” or maybe even “Yash.” What he wanted was to keep his real last name. But the council had insisted that he go by another to help keep from drawing attention to himself and jeopardize the mission. Like the name they picked wasn’t going to draw attention.

“Well, Inu.” The teacher turned back to him with a big smile on her face, still missing the obvious glare that was given to her. “Why don’t you tell us a little bit about yourself?”

Inu Yasha shrugged indifferently. “Transferred, moved, now I’m here.”

Mrs. Yugami frowned at how blunt and short his answer was. “Well, surely there must be something you’d like to share with us. Likes? Dislikes? Hobbies? Favorite food? Favorite color? Friends? Family?”

Inu Yasha took a deep breath to keep his temper in tact, running a hand through his bangs. “Sleeping, losing, fighting, ramen, red, dead and killed.”

Inu Yasha found the _expression on her face priceless, but refrained from laughing, the mention of family and friends destroying any kind of humor he would have found in his answers before he even spoke them out loud.

“Where do I sit?” he asked quickly before she had the chance to recover from her shock and pester him some more.

He waited a few moments for his words to register in her overloaded brain, then moved to the empty seat that she pointed out to him. The empty desk right next to Kagome.

Without even giving her a glance, Inu Yasha slid into his seat, crossing his arms over his chest., waiting for everyone to quit staring at him and return to whatever it was they were doing.

Several minutes passed before the teacher cleared her throat to get the class’s attention and turned back to the board to finish explaining her lesson for the day. Thankfully, everyone turned back to their work and soon forgot that he even existed.

Well… almost everyone.

Inu Yasha looked up to see the girl sitting in front of him and the one sitting kitty-corner to his left both smiling widely at him. The urge to growl was so strong that he had to bite his tongue to stop it from pressing forward.

He really was getting sick and tired of people giving him those funny looks. Why couldn’t they just leave him alone? It’s not like they haven’t ever seen a new student before, not to mention a new male student.

“Hi,” the one whispered. “I’m Eri and these are my friends,” she said cheerfully, indicating towards Kagome and the other beside her. “This is Ayumi and-”

“Knock it off, Eri,” Kagome snapped quietly, successfully putting an end to her friend’s rambling for the time being. “Can’t you see he wants to be left alone?”

Inu Yasha smirked despite himself. He could sense and smell the anger that flowed off her body, finding it hard to believe that she was upset with someone other than himself.

“Kagome,” he greeted, keeping his eyes forward.

“Inu.”

Eri and Ayumi stared wide-eyed at the two of them, finding it hard to believe that their friend would know such a gorgeous looking specimen of the opposite sex without telling them about him. Not to mention how or when she met him.

The rest of the class passed by uneventfully, Inu Yasha and Kagome both staying silent even as they moved to gather their things and exit the classroom. Both tried to be quick so that neither could be pestered or bothered by curious spectators.

Luck seemed to be on their side for the moment, allowing them enough space and time to make it to the gymnasium and to their next class, each of them heading off to the two different changing rooms to change into proper clothes.

Kagome was quick with changing, staying inside of her changing stall until she heard Eri and Ayumi enter their own stalls and begin to undress before slipping back out into the gym.

She never really made it a habit of ignoring or avoiding her friends. It was more like the millions of thousands of questions that she wanted to avoid, rather than them. She already knew what they were and really wasn’t in the mood to answer any of them, even if they were the simple little ‘need to know’ type questions that her friends deemed important.

Besides, she couldn’t just come out and say that he was living with her. What would they think, other than that she was seeing him in more ways than one? Though the council had practically ordered her to pose as Inu Yasha’s girlfriend, she still didn’t want anything to do with it. Didn’t her opinion matter? Didn’t it matter that she didn’t want to act as his girlfriend?

Kagome began to stretch the muscles in her legs, her attention captured by the one person that invaded her every waking thought. He was standing as far away from everyone else as he could, stretching and working the muscles in his arms and legs loose for any kind of activity. His deep red muscle shirt was tight fitting, only a little bit looser than fitting him like a second skin. The black shorts made the red and white lines down their sides stand out, and his shoes added to the darkened affect his gym clothes seemed to scream out.

‘What is with him and those three colors? That’s all he ever wears.’

“Kagome!”

Kagome closed her eyes and cursed under her breath, knowing that there was nowhere she could hide from her two prodding friends. Correction, she told herself, make that three. Eri and Ayumi would most likely have already found Yuka and filled her in on everything.

“All right now!” Yuka started, stopping a few feet away, placing her hands on her hips for effect. “Spill. How do you know the new guy?”

“Yeah, Kag,” Ayumi pleaded. “It’s not like you to keep secrets from us.”

Instead of answering, Kagome just shrugged her shoulders in a very ‘Inu Yasha’ like matter and continued to stretch as if they hadn’t asked her a thing.

“Kagome!” Eri practically screamed.

“What?” Kagome yelled back, furiously. She straightened before turning to her friends, giving them all cold glares. “There’s nothing to tell.”

“Oh… my… god…” Eri whispered.

“What?”

Ayumi breathed. “Kag, don’t look now…”

“WHAT?”

“Here comes Hojo!” Yuka all but squealed.

Kagome froze into place, hoping and praying that they were just pulling her leg. But by the dreamy, far off looks on all three of their faces, she knew that they were being totally serious.

“Hi, Kagome.”

She turned slowly, putting on a big fake smile before facing Hojo completely. He really was handsome for someone so sweet and kindhearted. But for some reason, she never found any interest in him. There was just nothing that pulled her to him. And no matter how much she tried to tell him that, he just wouldn’t take the hint.

“Uh… H-hi… Hojo…”

Kagome couldn’t help the small groan in the back of her throat as he smiled at her with complete trust and love in his eyes.

‘Man… today’s just not my day…’

~ * ~

Inu Yasha watched from across the gym as Kagome visited with her friends. He could only guess what they were talking about as he could smell her anger towards them. Her muscles looked tense and tight, making his hands twitch with the desire to rub them over her body and loosen her up.

He was about to go back to his own stretching until he noticed some guy walking over to them. He could hear Eri and Ayumi’s soft hitching of breath and the other one squealing in utter delight. But it was the way Kagome’s spine seemed to stiffen in response to their reactions that had gotten his attention.

He watched closely, trying hard not to make it obvious that he was trying to listen to what was being said. He could tell that Kagome knew him, but her fake smile that she flashed the boy said everything. She didn’t like him, but didn’t want to hurt his feelings.

Inu Yasha smirked. Of course she didn’t like him. Not only was the bitch called for, but she was extremely uncomfortable near him. Hell, even he found the guy’s presence uncomfortable. There was just something about the way his aura seemed to rub Inu Yasha the wrong way that set off warning signals inside his head.

The smirk vanished though, a scowl darkening his eyes as he watched the kid make a move towards his bitch even when she was making it quite apparent she wasn’t interested in the least. But when he didn’t seem to take notice, and snaked his arm around her waist to draw her closer…

Inu Yasha nearly howled.

Instead, he clenched his fists and walked calmly towards the group, keeping his movements smooth and easy like a predator stalking his prey. He studied his ‘rival’ with a canine eye, making sure to size him up in both size and strength. When satisfied that he was the more dominant male, Inu Yasha let his appearance be known.

The three girls seemed to beam happily at his arrival, sending him more flirtatious looks as they fanned their eyelashes at him. He ignored them, keeping his attention on the boy who dared trespass onto his territory without permission.

“Hi. Inu, right?”

Inu Yasha lightly growled at his pleasant matter, the boy acting as if he hadn’t done anything wrong. He could see Kagome softly trying to remove the guy’s arm from around her waist and step away, but he still didn’t seem to get the hint.

“I’m Hojo; we were in Calculus together this morning.” He smiled again, making Inu Yasha want to do nothing but knock that smile off his face. “I’m sorry for making this sound rude, but did you want something?”

Kagome’s eyes went wide. That was not the best thing to say to someone like Inu Yasha. And by the way his hands seemed to shake by his side, she would have to guess that he was trying very hard to fight down the urge to rip Hojo’s throat out. He looked furious! Almost ready to kill. And if it wasn’t for so many witnesses, Kagome had no doubt that Hojo would have already been dead.

“What I want is to know,” Inu Yasha growled through clenched teeth, trying hard to keep himself in control, “why the fuck your arm is around my girlfriend?”

Four people stood in shock at his question. Kagome could feel Hojo’s arm instantly drop from around her a second later, but she was too stunned to take notice of it.

‘His GIRLFRIEND!!!’ her mind screamed. How dare he say something like that in front of her friends when he knew damn well that it wasn’t true!

“Kagome…” Hojo asked softly, “is… is this… true?”

Inu Yasha didn’t give her time to answer. He had her by the wrist and was pulling her away from the other four before Hojo even had time to finish his question.

Inu Yasha was furious. There was no way he was going to let some punk think that he could touch his bitch like that, or to even think himself worthy of being around someone so sweet and caring like his Kagome.

‘He’ll never touch her again…’ Inu Yasha growled to himself, ‘or I’ll personally see to it that any part of him that does, will remain dysfunctional for the rest of his pathetic little life…’

It didn’t even dawn on him that the thoughts running through his head were that of a jealous, overprotecting lover. Or wannabe lover, in his case. He had just come to terms that he was starting to feel something for the miko girl. What he hadn’t realized was how strong his feelings were or how fast they have developed in the short period of time spent together.

Even now, he found it unbelievable of how attached he became to her. He found himself hoping that she wouldn’t be mad at him for blurting out that last little statement of his and that she would thank him. Maybe even hug him.

Inu Yasha felt his body heat at the thought of her touching him in any way, his hand holding onto her wrist giving some kind of idea of how she would feel against him… writhing beneath him as her body raked with uncontrollable pleasure.

He stopped suddenly, dropping the hold that he had on her, and waited for her to start yelling and screaming at him for his behavior. He could smell her anger rising as realization seemed to come back to her, her mind most likely replaying the last several minutes to grasp the situation.

Several minutes passed and still nothing was said. Time seemed to slow and last for an eternity before either one of them risked to glance at the other.

Kagome’s eyes narrowed dangerously at the youkai in front of her. She wasn’t sure whether she should be angry at him or grateful. She really was happy that Hojo had let go of her, as she already found it uncomfortable being in his presence. The fact that he had been standing right next to her, pulling her body tightly up against him, was almost enough to make her gag.

But on the other hand, she didn’t want to thank Inu Yasha for coming when he did. She didn’t want to encourage any kind of that behavior again, no matter how much she wanted or wished he would every time Hojo would come near.

The simple fact of the matter, in truth, was that she wanted to Hojo to do it again. It was the perfect excuse for Inu Yasha to grab her and pull her away, forcing him to touch her again. It didn’t matter if it was on the hand, wrist, cheek or wherever…

At least he would be touching her in some way.

And it made her furious that she would want such a thing. To crave for him just to be near her in some way at all times. But mainly, she was mad at herself. For feeling such desiring emotions towards a youkai. A Takahashi, to be exact.

Inu Yasha couldn’t stand the silence anymore. The emotions that he saw flashing through her eyes and the way her scent seemed to pull him to her was enough to make his blood stir to a boil.

He watched her make an attempt to start a conversation. But as much as he wanted to talk, to say the things he so badly wanted to say, he didn’t want to. Instead, his eyes locked on her lips before doing the first thing that popped into his head.

Inu Yasha roughly yanked her against his chest, wrapping one arm around her waist as his other hand fisted its way into her long raven hair, pulling her head back at an angle to give him perfect access to her lush, full lips.

Within seconds their lips were pressed up against each other. Amethyst eyes rolled back in pure bliss as blue ones widened, glazed, then drifted in ecstasy. Unlike their first kiss, the one that had caressed her lips and seemed to warm the soul, this one was fierce and demanding, forcing both of them to give as much as they could.

Inu Yasha nipped her bottom lip roughly, eliciting a small gasp of pain to escape her. It left just enough room between her lips to let him snake his tongue into her mouth, pressing and forcing her own to dance with his in a tangle of mixed thoughts and emotions.

Air became needed, but still he pressed on and on, refusing to release her lips with the very real possibility that this may be the last time he would ever get to taste her. He could feel himself become dizzy with the lack of oxygen, her hand clenching and lightly tugging at his gym shirt telling him that she too was feeling lightheaded, on the very edge of fainting.

Just as he felt she would collapse, he released her. He absorbed the feeling of her chest pushing against his, and his hers, as they both panted desperately for much deprived oxygen, trying to calm their racing hearts and to clear the haze of passion that clouded their minds.

Inu Yasha could see, smell and feel how he affected her. He so badly wanted nothing more than to lose himself in her softness again. To swoop down and capture those lips that seemed to beg and plead for his undivided attention.

Instead, he leaned his forehead against hers, fighting off all of his urges to just give in to her. There was a point to the way he had just kissed her; he couldn’t afford to be distracted by it now that he had her attention.

“From… this moment on…” he panted in a hoarse whisper, still finding it hard to breathe, let alone talk. “You are my girlfriend. No ifs, ands or buts about it. You will do what I say, when I say it. You will not go anywhere where I cannot follow. And you will not be left alone with that Hobo-”

“Hojo…” Kagome corrected breathlessly.

“I don’t care what his name is. You will not be left alone with him. If situation calls for you to be near him in any way, I will be by your side. And you will not fight me on this, understand? If you do, you will know the true meaning of what it is like to cross a youkai’s wrath.”

Taking a deep breath, Inu Yasha forced his hormones from raging out of control. He lightly kissed her forehead. He wouldn’t mind staying like this forever, but everyone in the gym suddenly found them to be the most exciting thing to watch, and he didn’t feel like giving them anything else to talk about, having given them more than enough to keep them busy for the next month.

Inu Yasha kissed Kagome’s forehead once again, regrettably pulling away from her warm embrace. He gave her a reassuring smile - more like a smirk, actually - at her confused _expression.

“Finish your stretches,” he said, acting like nothing even happened between the two of them. He moved away completely, playfully smacking her on the ass. “P.E. is about to start.”

Kagome nodded numbly and went to go finish her stretches; a hand on her shoulder caused her to pause. He was looking at her with so much trust and devotion that Kagome nearly found it hard to breathe again. His warm breath on her cheek told her how close he actually was, followed by a soft, simple touch of his lips against her skin.

“I’ll see you after class. Wait for me by the door.”

Again, she found herself nodding numbly. He didn’t stop her from walking away this time, leaving to head back towards her three stunned friends from whom, he happily noticed, Hojo being absent.

Kagome could feel herself shiver despite herself, the warmth of his body still surrounding her, consuming her entire being. Her body continued to tingle through out the entire class from his touches, making it almost impossible for her to concentrate on anything but him.

Sighing deeply to herself, Kagome closed her eyes as if to clear her head, an act that was totally impossible to do. ‘Damn it… I knew I wouldn’t be able to survive another one… Damn you, Inu Yasha… Damn you for making me want you…”

Sorry about that. My other page loaded just fine, I'm not sure what happened for it to do that. I'll have to make sure that it doesn't happen again.
