Disclaimer: All Inuyasha characters belong not to me, but to Rumiko Takahashi and related companies. No money is being made off of this fic. Yuji is belonging to me.

(A/N): It's winding down! Oh noes!(maybe not) This fic has been such fun to right, ideas pouring out of my head into to keyboard all these chapters. ^^; usually when that happens it's just a 'brain fart' and all I get out of it is one chapter. Yay improvement!
--My god, I was in an accident last night, the front of the car I was in is totally smashed in-- unslavagable. Some woman decided to run a red light and I'm still hurting >< ugh! but I shall post on schedual. *complains* Grr IVs hurt, and CAT scan dye is weird!

Inuyasha silently leaps out of the well onto the dusty ground, covering his nose with his sleeve until the dust settles a bit. He hadn't been here in a while, the smells seemed stronger, more overwhelming. Carefully he exits the well-house, it was already getting dark.
Holding off a sneeze he makes his way out into the courtyard, his head suddenly jerking in the direction of the Goshinboku when the wind shifts. It wasn't Kagome's scent but her mother's. He approaches, footsteps deliberately noisy, trying not to scare the woman by 'sneaking about'. She notices him a few yards away, She turns quickly in his direction from where she had been facing the great tree. Upon seeing him her face seems to relax and tense at the same time
"Oh, Inuyasha, it's you" She attempts a smile as he steps a few paces closer "how are you?"
"I'm well enough, and you?" he returns the attempt. She shakes her head
"the same" He brushes aside the practiced formalities
"How is Kagome?" a fleeting look he misses
"She's . . . been down" the older woman wrings her hands
"We need her to come back" He cuts to the chase "Shippo needs her to come back" he watches the woman’s face, his own serious, set. He mentally kept a check on his ears, something Sesshoumaru had pointed out, gave him away more than they should. He felt sorry for the girl but lives were on the line and she needed to let go of her little bout of teen angst, or else it would definitely hinder them. All elements needed to be secure if they were to fight Naraku.
"Shippo, that's the fox kit Kagome talks about right?"
"that's right, Kagome is the kit's mother" he watches her face as emotions flash across it a mile a minute. Kagome didn't seem to know of understand that consept, her mother might not either "most likely she doesn't even know this, though she babies him enough, he needs her with him"
The woman's mouth opens but then purses closed "I see"
He did not want to tell the woman they needed her daughter-- to fight a battle she may not walk away from, that none of them may walk away from. He would leave that to Kagome, he didn't need a crying or possibly screaming woman in his arms at the moment.
"I need to talk with her" the woman nods looking back at the Goshinboku, she had been preying.
"she's--she's in her room, I don't think . . . that she's asleep"
he nods, turning on his heel and making his way towards the house

Inuyasha catches the pillow thrown at his head and growls lowly
"Damnit calm down!"
"No! Leave! I don't want to see you!"
"Too bad! I'm here!" The girls face was tear-streaked and angry and she was curled up at the corner of her bed where it fit into the corner of the room
"Go away! Go back--I don't care anymore! Go back to--Miroku!" her voice hiccups
"Not without you" He sends her a glare that pins her to the wall at her back. "This is your fight!" she flinches and he steps forward "snap out of it! I though you were better than the rest of the stones for brains girls that run around in this time?" She looks wounded, he continues ignoring his conscience "You're gonna die just because you don't get what you want?" his voice is harsh, but speaking softly and with consideration was not an option "Pick yourself the fuck up Kagome" he intended to hit home "you're just going to let Shippo suffer because you want to be selfish?" her mouth opens to protest but nothing comes out "you're his mother" her eyes widen "weather you know it or not, not his sister or his babysitter, do you understand that?" she stares, quiet.
"You're always begging to go back and visit your mother aren't you?" he crosses his arms in his sleeves "how do you think he feels? He's lost one mother already!"

Inuyasha watches silently as the girl's face cracks, the floodgates opening as crocadile tears fall down her face and onto the soft pink bedsheets
"oh god! I was, I-- I was selfish!" she presses her forehead to the bed sheltering herself with her ams "-- I . . .Shippo, I'm so sorry so--"

He lets the girl cry for a bit until she calms down enough to inturrupt "alright, we're done with that" his voice is once again stern, but not biting "get ready, we need you, your going to need alot of medical supplies--as much as you have . . . I'll fill you in on what's happened as you pack" the girl looks up before nodding and climbing to her feet
"thank you, Inuyasha" he nods shortly
"you need to talk to your mother as well . . . the final battle is close"
Kagome steps to the closet pulling out a familiar yellow backpack, worn with use, taking out everything that wasn't nessessity-- her mouth drawn in a tight line.

"Mama" Mrs. Higurashi* turns toward the sound of footsteps for the second time that night, this time however Her daughter had joined in the noise making. She noticed without much thought to it, that Inuyasha's barefoot steps seemed to disappear in the wake of her daughters louder ones against the stone of the courtyard.
"Kagome . . . you're outside?" Her daughters face turns guilty, she smiles to push the look away. It does half the job
"Mama I have to leave" Mrs. Higurashi nods, it wasn't something unexspected
"I understand Kagome, ju--"
"No Mama" her daughters almost pained voice cuts her off, her chest tightens, was . . . was this it? Was Kagome leaving for good?
"Kagome . . ."
"I'm leaving to fight Naraku, Mama" Naraku, the guy they'd been fighting, the villian to their hero "this isn't like before" Kagome sets her bag down carefully, all the medical supplied her mother had stockpiled inside, along with a few other nessisary things. She takes a few steps closer to her mother kneeling next to the bench the woman was sitting on.
Inuyasha watches the scene, this was hard for both of them he was sure, but had nothing to quite compare it with. Maybe . . .He was unsure

"Mama--" the woman stares down at her daughter "mama, I may not come back from this fight"
"No, Kagome don't talk that way" the girls face is pained now "Kagome . . . don't look . . .don't, oh no! No no--!" Kagome allows herself to be pulled into her mothers arms. Inuyasha turns away, this wasn't something to watch-- his ears flatten to his head, or listen to.

"I, you ca-- " the woman seems to struggle for the words "You can't! You could d-- I forbid you to" The woman shakes her head in denile, knowing she couldn't stop her daughter. Kagome would not disclose many details about her trips or fights, giving them PG-13 stories, but she knew they were worst than she told them. She had found the bloodied, torn and burned clothes in the wastebasket. She had been the one to buy the medical supplied that they seemed to run through so quickly, and the one to pay for the classes that just had to teach how to treat 'serious wounds and ailments in secluded areas' such as on a hiking trail or Feudal Japan.

Kagome pulls away from her mother as the grip goes limp. The woman smiles through her sorrow. Her face suddenly ten years aged. Tears gather at the look alone.
"It's ok" her smile is deafeninly sad "I knew it might come to this" I'll prepare for the worst
"just not this soon." Even you haven't gripped the seriousness of your journey until now "So, no dodging his classmate's questions for Souta, or illnesses for father to make up if you don't return right?" You're not going to say goodbye to Souta and your grandpa then?
Kagome shakes her head sadly. Her mother continues talking "Hopefully that's not the case" please, god, come back alive . . . even if you're broken "I hope . . . at least" I'm selfish I know, but I'm your mother.
Kagome's eyes sting again, hearing ever hidden meaning in her mothers words, that must seem cold or unfeeling to Inuyasha.
"I hope too." no promises.
Kagome hugs her mother, the strong woman seeming frail in her arms
"I love you mama"
"I love you too Kagome . . . so much"

Inuyasha looks back one last time before hoping in after the miko from the future, her mother had waited until she was gone to truly cry.

(* meanings)

Mrs. Higurashi - Not knowing under what circumstances her husband 'left' I'm writing it as if he simply passed away for one reason or the other, while they were still married-- so 'mrs.'
