~“Well, well, well, I thought you'd be cold your whole life, but you're a wind bag,” a cool voice said as Naraku stepped out of the shadows, his cloaking spell had worked perfectly~
Fear was a living, breathing thing inside Sesshoumaru as he met those crimson orbs, his instincts telling him to kill it or run for that was no man, no matter who it looked; it was little more than a monster. A creation of greed; a wanton being bent on its own pleasure no matter the cost. The threatening growl from his brother did little more to amuse the thing and those crimson eyes stared only at him yet he knew that they saw all; they saw the indecision on Kagome's face, and the fear on the kits that was shaking on his shoulder so hard he vibrated.
They saw the rage on his brothers face so plan that he knew any who met InuYasha would be able to tell you what the hanyou felt at any given moment. The confidence of Koga that bordered on arrogance, they saw the determination on Sango and Miroku's faces to protect the one who had so often belittled them, and their leader, who he had so often tried to kill. And in that moment Sesshoumaru knew he had to get away from these people, no matter how kind until he was no longer a danger to them.
No longer a magnet.
It was all they could so easily be killed, if InuYasha chose to help him so be it, but the humans had to stay away from him…for their own safety. And then a name popped into his head along with a face, a memory, Rin, his adopted daughter, he'd…he'd left her at the palace, with a servant he trusted but whose name and face evaded him. Blinking rapidly he watched the cruel smile touch Naraku's face as if he knew Sesshoumaru's every though and maybe he did. “Oh I just wanted to see if my spell had done its job, if big, bad Sesshoumaru-sama was the little boy I made him,” the thing sighed and seemed to pout, though if it thought it was becoming it was so off the mark as revolution shivered up and down Sesshoumaru's spine.
“But, alas, it did not, you were supposed to be around five, though I must stay, youth becomes you, Sesshoumaru,” and with a creepy, evil laugh he disappeared without a trace.
No scent left behind.
“InuYasha,” Sesshoumaru whispered his mouth dry.
“Yeah?” InuYasha turned to see the paleness of his brothers' face, the lines of strain around his mouth and it hit him that Sesshoumaru had been through so much in so short a time. It was amazing that the boy, for a boy he was, (demons aged differently to humans and though he was physically one age he was mentally another and the mental was far ahead. Mentally he was around 150 in some areas older yet he still had the innocence and thought patterns of a child) hadn't complained.
A pink tongue flickered over his creaked lips, and InuYasha's gaze tracked the movement as the others turned to them, “I…I think it would be best…safest if I left the group, I draw danger to me and though the humans and kit can hold their own, I fear they will fall to those after me…like Naraku,” he said. And it made sense, especially with the tension between Ru and Gome, InuYasha could concede that, he also didn't want to risk the group.
Sighing he gave Sesshoumaru a wary smile and said “Always the smart one,” reminding the younger older demon of one of their many conversations were the boy had out witted InuYasha. And Sesshoumaru gave a half-hearted smile as the sun caught the shine of his hair giving Sesshoumaru an angelic appearance.
(Oh and the transformation from adult to boy gave Sess back his arm)
Her breath catching in her thought Sango stared at the startling sight of Sesshoumaru glowing in the sun light as if touched by kami and turned to look at the monk who also looked stunned. Wordlessly they turned to look at Kagome who was staring at the boy with prejudice eyes, jealous eyes and it hit them both, Kagome was extremely possessive of InuYasha, though Miroku knew that InuYasha didn't feel that way, he just liked baiting Koga into fights.
And she was viewing Sesshoumaru as another competitor for the heart of the one she thought hers, InuYasha. Looking back at the brothers, Miroku could see why, the boy was stunning and InuYasha was looking at him with warm, loving eyes, eyes of a mate not a brother. Oh, shit, they both thought until they caught on to the conversation.
“Hay, shouldn't we have a say in this?!” Miroku asked glaring half-heartedly at the bonding pair, for that was what they were doing, bonding.
And to their shock it was Koga who answered, “No, they're right, it's too dangerous, and if Naraku gets a hold of Kagome and the jewel shard we're toast.” His blue eyes turned to the humans before he continued “And if any of you get hurt on Sesshoumaru's account, fighting off demons after Sesshoumaru and not the shard, imagine how guilty the boy will feel if you continue to accompany the inu brothers. How hurt he'll feel if any of you die. He'll blame himself; belittle himself when you were the ones who demanded to come.”
Sighing Miroku looked at the two who were watching them with twin golden gazes, the looks so identical it sent shivers down his spine, then he noticed small similarities in their look; the eyes and hair were dead giveaways, but other than that they didn't look related until you looked closely and had them close together. They had the same nose, and their jaw lines were so close to identical, giving a few millimetres to InuYasha's and the shape of their lips was identical, though that may change as Sesshoumaru aged.
“Fine, I'm not happy about it but fine,” Miroku conceded and Sesshoumaru tilted his head to the side as Kagome made an angry sound.
“God, why cant we just dump the bum off and go after the jewels or something! Seriously this is getting annoying! And Miroku would you remember that Sesshoumaru isn't just any kid, he's a daiyokia, one who practicly can't die!” Kagome snapped and Miroku watched the light fade from Sesshoumaru's eyes, leaving them brittle and cold. Haunted, he decided abruptly, wondering how the ice lord had that look and if the reason for that look was the one that turned him cold in the first place.
“Look, Kagome would you just shut up!” InuYasha snapped and they all watched the near panic on his face before she screamed “SIT! Oh, sit, sit, sit!” and he hit the ground repeatedly. “InuYasha!” Sesshoumaru cried jumping down into InuYasha's self made crater, fear covering his already pail face. “Brother,” he whispered tears gathering as he rolled InuYasha over and they watched as he carefully pulled dirt, two teeth and some broken rock from his brothers mouth as that brother gasped for breath.
“Damn,” InuYasha gasped, knowing he'd creaked and broken a few ribs.
“Yash, you okay?” Sasshoumaru asked his golden eyes taking up most of his face, filled with concern and InuYasha realised that this was the first time anyone had asked him that or had attended him after getting `sat'.
“Yeah, just give us a sec,” he said before taking a deep breath and standing, his brother following his lead.
“InuYasha you rude pig!” Kagome yelled glaring at him. Deciding he'd had enough of the bitchy girl, Sesshoumaru rushed her and grasped her delicate thought in his small, clawed hand, lifting her up, as his brittle gold eyes turned molten with rage, red bleeding in as a growl tore from his throat.
“You stupid, insignificant little bitch,” he snarled as InuYasha cautiously walked up to his brother as he felt around his mouth, the holes were his teeth should have been tender and weeping blood. The cooper taste sweet and salty at the same time.
“Sesshoumaru,” he said calmly and all the younger older demon was snarl, his upper lip pulled up over his teeth, baring white teeth and sharp fangs.
“Don't you get it, you miserable excuse for a being, though I tried to kill my brother at least I was clear in my intentions, no matter how painful, at least I didn't hide behind the false pretence of friendship!” the demonic lord snarled.
“Sesshoumaru, if you don't put her down, you'll be sinking down to her level,” Koga said his tone soft as if he were talking to a wild, dangerous animal and in a way InuYasha agreed to the approach though his mind was stuck on the fact that once again his brother was guarding his back.
“Sesshoumaru, put her down, gently, don't let your rage blind you to the truth,” the wolf said and though he didn't release the miko he turned those crimson orbs of anger to the demon and when he spoke his voice was calm and collected as if they were just talking about the weather and not whether or not Kagome got to keep breathing.
“In my anger I see the truth the rest of you deny,” he said before gently he put Kagome back on her feet.
“Though cruel I was, though I tried repeatedly to kill my own brother a t least I was honest and if she tries to hide what she's doing behind some pretence of friendship then she doesn't know what it is. I myself have only had three true friends, and only one of those as I grew and he never dragged me down for stating my opinion, he never belittled me for my mistakes and he never, ever did anything to hurt me on purpose simply because I didn't agree with him!” the boy said.
“Your father?” Miroku asked and those glowing crimson orbs flinched, instantly going back to that brittle gold.
“No, Cratus, and if this is her version of friendship, if this is what the future holds I want nothing to do with it,” the lord said his jaw clenched either in anger or pain.
Looking down at Kagome who was gasping for breath as she glared up at him he said “I'm leaving, InuYasha, if you wish to come with me please, feel free, Koga, thank you for everything and I apologise for not continuing our game, maybe another time. Shippo, Sango, Miroku I thank you for your hospitality and patience and extend to you an invitation to come stay at the palace when things…calm down.”
He then turned and walked away his head held high and the instant he disappeared through the trees InuYasha asked “Thanks guys, Koga can you stay with the group until I can get Ru safe home?” his golden gaze meeting Kogas' blue one.
“Sure, just be sure you take good care of the little…can we even call him that? Oh, who care, take care of the little guy, the gangs in good hands, Ginta and Hakkaku will be over soon enough,” Koga grinned and teased “And I'll make sure to use this time to make my woman mine!”
Throwing Koga a dirty look InuYasha snapped “No, she's mine, so you better keep your hands to yourself!” before running off after Sesshoumaru.
