InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Love Is Blind ❯ The Future ( Chapter 9 )
Souta shrugged his bag higher on his shoulder as they exited the plane. Grandpa had been less than happy about the flight, but it had been almost three weeks since Kagome had gone through the well and they had heard nothing from her since then. His mom was worried and had booked them on a flight back the very next day. Just what exactly she was going to do he had no idea, but here they were in Tokyo all the same. It took a while to get off the plane and down the ramp. Souta scanned the groups of uniformed chauffeurs out of interest in who was on their flight that might warrant such treatment. He almost jumped out of his skin when he saw a man holding a sign with their name on it. He approached him slowly and the man smiled.
"You must be Souta. Would you do me the favor of collecting your mother and grandfather? Then we can be on our way."
Souta gaped at the man and his mother came up behind him wondering what had her son's interest. "You are here for us?"
"Yes, Kagome-dono sent me when she found out you were on this flight."
"But how did she know?"
He shrugged. "If I knew that I wouldn't be driving the car, I'd be making the big decisions."
They gathered their luggage, which the chauffeur paid a man to carry for them and made their way to a line of waiting limousines. He opened the door of a non-descript black one and helped them in. Their luggage was loaded and they were on their way. Souta went nuts inside the limo, checking every compartment and trying every button. The first thing they discovered was that the button that controlled the glass partition between the driver and the passengers was broken. They could neither see nor speak to their driver. His mother fell to sleep rather quickly despite the fact that it was still only early afternoon. Grandpa buried his nose in a book while Souta got the television working. It was almost an hour later when his mother awoke and noticed they were no where near their house.
"Where are we?"
Souta looked up and shrugged. "I don't know."
"Doesn't that bother you?"
"Not really. Kagome sent him. She knows what she's doing."
"And what if Kagome didn't send him? You ever think of that?"
Souta frowned then shrugged again. "Who would want to kidnap us?"
His mother snorted in disgust and watched the scenery go by. Behind them she could see the skyline of the city and before them only the trees of some of the few forests left in their nation. They rounded a bend and turned onto a side road. She gasped softly when she saw the house they were driving toward. It wasn't a house it was a palace with its own wall and at least a dozen buildings. The gates swung open for them and the driver pulled up to the main building. He opened the door with a differential bow and they climbed out. Waiting for them at the base of the steps was Kagome. She walked over and embraced each of them in turn.
"Please, come inside."
Her mother looked around, completely awed. "Kagome, what is all this?"
"I will explain when we get inside. The servants will see to your luggage. This way, please."
They followed her up the steps and into the building. The entryway was incredible. On every wall a tapestry or ink painting was hung. Souta reached out to touch a vase on a table in the corner, but Kagome caught his hand.
"That vase once sat in the home of the leader of the Kamakura Bakufu. The day you can afford to replace it, is the day you can touch it."
He gaped. "It didn't really, did it?"
She smiled and he suddenly got the feeling that the woman before him was not his sister, but someone else, someone older and infinitely wise. She released him and guided them through a maze of corridors and cover pathways until they came to a room that looked remarkably like a library. A tall man with flowing silver hair sat copying a scroll on fresh paper. He looked up when they entered and rose.
"Mother, grandfather, Souta, this is Sesshomaru. Please have a seat, we have much to discuss."
Kagome sat next to Sesshomaru. Despite the fact that both of them had been planning this for several hundred years, it was still difficult to find where to begin. Kagome felt him take her hand a squeeze it gently. He let the spell that concealed the more overt signs of his youkai blood drop. Souta gasped softly and Kagome began.
"Sesshomaru is the elder half brother of Inuyasha. Three weeks ago your daughter jumped down the Bone Eater's well, and never came back. The reason is in that time I mated Sesshomaru, and through an accidental wish, became youkai." She dropped her own concealing spell. They were silent for long moments before she continued. "Sesshomaru and I stayed on the other side of well. It was and still is our duty to watch over the Western Lands."
Her grandfather raised a finger, signaling her to halt. "You, sir, are a Lord of the Cardinal Points?"
Sesshomaru nodded. "I am the last Lord. The others long ago perished, as I would have had not Kagome helped me adapt to the changes to come. The Lord of the Northern Lands was the last to die, cut down by a samurai during the Meiji revolution. Now all the youkai of the world are my responsibility, mine and Kagome's. It is a responsibility we take very seriously. This facility is also a school, one of seventeen, where youkai and hanyou children may learn what they need to know in order to survive in the human world."
"I take skills like that spell you were using to conceal yourself are a necessity."
He shook his head. "No, merely a convenience. We teach them more practical skills, concealing themselves is not as much of a priority in this world as it used to be, it is more important that they learn control of their powers. It would be a considerable problem if say, Kagome decided to turn into a hundred foot black dog in the middle of Kyoto."
He turned to his granddaughter. "You can do that?"
She nodded slowly. "I am an inu youkai, yes."
"And you have not returned through the well since you left us three weeks ago?"
"Correct. Sesshomaru and I have lived as the Lord and Lady of the Western Lands for hundreds of years."
Her mother nodded slowly. After all that had happened to her daughter, this was not so great a surprise as it should have been. "And you two are married?"
Kagome nodded. "We are, in fact you are eight times a grandmother."
"Eight times? I don't know if I could have eight children."
Sesshomaru smiled suddenly at the woman. "Eight is a lot, even for youkai who have been together for as long as we have. Would you like to meet them? The youngest, Miroku, is at college right now, but he'll be home in a few weeks."
"We were hoping you could stay here until the house is finished. We're paying for what the insurance won't cover, don't worry about it."
Her mother nodded slowly. "Just where did all the money come from for this? I mean, I realize you have some foreknowledge of the stock market and such, but seventeen places like this scattered around the world? That is a bit much."
Kagome flushed slightly. "Well, that's a little more difficult to explain. You're right that my knowledge of history did help us invest wisely. But what made us billionaires is…well…over the centuries as wealthy and powerful people rose and fell, we were always there to…liberate their fortunes."
"Liberate?"
"We stole them. Most of the artifacts in this and the other facilities are the result of such thefts. Our school in the Himalayas used to be a Buddhist Temple. We stopped the Chinese Army from destroying the place and took over its up keep, at first ostensibly as a re-education facility for former monks, but now it is an official school for the gifted, as many of them are."
"But by gifted you mean youkai."
"In part, we take human students as well. In fact if Souta wishes to attend he may on a trial basis for the rest of the year."
Souta winced then brightened suddenly. "Is Inuyasha here?"
Kagome gave him a kind smile. "Inuyasha is the Headmaster of the school in New York. He and his mate both teach there."
He made a face. "Inyasha's a teacher?"
"Hai. As is Rin, our eldest and first adopted child. I was able to use the Shikon no tama to turn her into a youkai. Shippou is here, he teaches many of our magic classes. His mate is our martial arts teacher. Sesshomaru and I actually live in a house near here, but these facilities include guest accomdations for visiting facaltiy."
Her mother frowned slightly. "You make it sound like a university. This is just prep school, right?"
Sesshomaru felt his patience waning. This woman obviously did not understand the importance of what they were doing. "To humans it is a prep school, to youkai and hanyou children it is their last and best hope for survival in a world where they would be shot on sight or dissected in the name of science and progress. Many of these children have lived apart from any society, human or youkai, out of fear. We give them a chance to learn and to be accepted. We take in mikos and monks who show promise and teach them as well. They in turn seek out youkai who still hide and show them that there is more to life in this world than fear."
The humans sat in stunned silence. Sesshomaru's speech had been delivered in his normal, emotionless, caramel tones, yet the passion he obviously felt resonated through the room. There was a soft gong and they both winced.
Kagome gave them a conciliatory smile. "We have to go. There is a charity ball tonight with several extremely rich, pompous, arrogant, loud-mouthed Americans that we are being subjected to."
Her mothered laughed suddenly. "Money can't buy you happiness I see."
Sesshomaru decided he might grow to like this woman a great deal. "No, it certainly cannot. Jaken can show you to your rooms."
They all rose and Sesshomaru inclined his head to them. Kagome hugged her mother once more. "See you in the morning, Okaasan."
"Have a wonderful evening dear."
Kagome watched as they filed out. She felt Sesshomaru's hand snake around her waist and pull her next to him. She leaned back against his chest, turning her head so she could hear his heart beating through the thin cotton shirt. She closed her eyes, letting the moment have her. Then she felt him sigh softly and release her. She turned around and rested her hands on his shoulders.
"Let's blow this off. I don't think I can take much more of these people."
He pulled her into a tight embrace. "We have to. These people are the policy makers of the world. Without them our people are in grave danger."
She sighed and nodded. "Fine, but if that bloody Texan touches me one more time, I'm ripping his head off, and I don't mean the one attached to his neck."
Sesshomaru grinned down at this wife. Over the centuries he'd learned that when pushed, Kagome could be just as ruthless as he was. It was the work of less than an hour for them to be ready and climb into the car. He rested a hand on her knee as they rode, his fingers gently massaging her leg. She smiled as his hand found the slit in her skirt and he slipped his hand along her legs. He was disappointed to find that she'd worn hose, but as his hand traveled up her leg he felt a smile tug at his lips. Garters and lace greeted his questing fingers. He glanced over at her to find her watching him.
"You're going to get us both in trouble if you keep doing that."
"Can't I express my love for my wife?"
She leaned over far enough for him to clearly discern the curves of her breast, and to tell that she was not wearing a bra. "You can, after dinner."
The ball was a gathering of the richest and most powerful in the hemisphere. A loud red-nosed Texan whose wife was more interested in the contents of the desert tray than in what her husband was doing, was making his presence felt. Unfortunately for Kagome he seemed to think that not only was every Japanese woman a geisha, but that geishas were nothing more than high priced whores. She had to perform a careful ballet to keep his hands off her and twice she pulled strangers out on the dance floor to avoid him.
Sesshomaru, as usual, was being mobbed by every available and many unavailable woman in the room. Kagome told his it was his hair. Long flowing silver hair framing an angelic face, add into that his deep melodious voice and penetrating eyes still golden despite the spell and he was more than any woman could resist. Toward the end of the evening, Kagome pushed herself through his crowd of admirers and escorted him out on the dance floor.
"My hero." He murmured softly and she simply nodded, she knew how he hated the smell of humans. It was a stench she had trouble tolerating as well. "I will have to find an appropriate way of thanking you."
She grinned suddenly. "I think I like where this is going."
The evening ended more or less the same way it began. Kagome slipped her hand into Sesshomaru's arm and walked proudly out the door, well aware that she was receiving death wishes from at least half a dozen women. In the car they raised the partition between them and the driver. They started off and once they were on the highway, Sesshomaru knelt on the floor of the car between Kagome's legs. He kissed her gently, reveling in her scent and taste after so long bathing in a vat of human slime. His hands slid up her skirt squeezing the firm muscles of her legs. There was something about her legs that always fascinated him, even after all this time. He loved touching them, feeling the strength they held, having them wrapped around him. He lifted her skirt and reached for her underwear. She snarled softly.
"You ruin these, I'll kill you."
He smiled against her mouth. "I'd like to see you try."
She pushed his jacket off his shoulders and began to unbutton his shirt. "They tie on, no need to tear them."
Her hands ran over his chest as his fingers found the ties and pulled her underwear away. "Someone was thinking ahead."
"Just wishful thinking."
He pulled her forward as she unbuttoned and unzipped his pants. He gripped her hips and entered her with one sure thrust. Her legs went around him, locking him in place. His lips found the sensitive skin of her neck and her hands tangled in his hair. The spell concealing them dropped suddenly, but neither noticed. Kagome rode her lover to one of the greatest orgasms of her life. Centuries of lovemaking had eliminated her inhibitions about people hearing her. She was sure the driver was more then aware of what they were doing but she didn't care. He bit into her shoulder and she sank her teeth into his, reopening the mark she had made the night after their first mating. The taste of blood and the scent of their lovemaking surrounded them in a haze that blotted out the reek of humans and the dirty feeling such prolonged contact evoked. They washed away their contempt with their ardor. They cried out as they climaxed then she collapsed back into the seat. He rested his head against her breasts, panting softly, his engorged member still inside her.
"We have to do that more often."
She smiled as she ran her claws through his hair. "Makes these functions bearable."
He smiled up at her. "Imagine what it would be like if her had a quickie in the coatroom midway through."
"Horny old dog."
"Sadistic bitch."
She laughed softly. "I love you too."
