"Are you sure this is a good idea?" Inuyasha asked.

"Of course!" Kagome replied, smiling. Miroku and Sango were, unusually, talking with no cursed hand groping Sango's butt. Kagome had dragged Inuyasha away with Shippou still asleep in her arms.

"Keh! Why are you dragging me into it, wench?" Inuyasha snorted. Why is he participating in her stupid game anyway? "Because you like her."

"Keh, there's no way I like her."

"Deny again, I won't mind. I choose her, you marry her. Final."

"Why must I have a stupid youkai like you?"

"Why must I have a stupid owner like you?"

"Inuyasha? Inuyasha! Why are you growling?" Kagome was concerned.

"Nothing." Shaking off Kagome's hand, he jumped into a tree. Kagome sighed and walked away.

Sango raised her eyebrows. "Well?"

"There are things I have to tell you, Sango." Miroku hesitated. He rose up to check if Kagome and Inuyasha is still there. They had been there spying on them. When Kagome giggled, he was alarmed. After chasing them away, the silence had been tensed. Sango had been irritated that Miroku had yelled at Kagome so she had been glaring at him.

"Well speak." Sango gestured for him to sit down beside her.

"Remember I told you I'm going to marry you... after Naraku's killed?"

Sango blushed by jerked her head indicating she understand.

"Good. I'm scared... Sango. I don't know how long I have to live. I only know onw thing, and that is I love you. But I can't bear to give you up. I can't be selfish either. What if I die before Naraku's gone? It's already been two years since we got together and yet Naraku's flesh and bones are still intact. Don't you think we should-"

"NO! You're being selfish of you break us up. You-" Sango was cut off by Miroku's lips against hers.

Finally Miroku leaned away. Putting his hands on her shoulders, he shook her gently. "I hate to give you up too. But the nightmares that haunt me every night are scary. What if one day I suck you up with me in my wind tunnel? I can't be so selfish. I must leave. All of you. When I die, atleast I know I didn't harm anyone."

"I don't believe you can dump me! I know- I know you're just kidding right?" Sango's eyes were wide with fear. She was holding on to him, afraid, afraid to let him go as if scared that he'll disappear from her sight once and for all.

Miroku sighed and pulled back from her. "No Sango. This is reality. I don't want it too. Maybe... Maybe we can meet next life. I know Heaven is not as cruel to break us up once and for all like this. I will keep living until the day I die. Maybe we might become allies that meet occasionally like Kouga. But I can't travel with you again. I love you too much to hurt you."

Sango's shoulders slung in defeat. Holding on to her last ounce of strength, she stood up and began walking away. After a distance, she looked back. "Miroku, you'll never hurt me. I'll truely be hurt if you leave me. Leave if you want. You'll forever remain in my heart." She continued walking, walking on with the hope that Miroku will call out to her like before. Assuring her it was nothing but a joke. But as she heard the sound of footsteps walking the otherway, her heart sank. Deep in her heart, she cried. For him. For her.

"Well, we've finally beaten Naraku." Kagome smiled at Inuyasha. When she turned to Sango, her smile dropped. "Sango... Maybe, maybe he's still alive. We'll help you to look for him. Won't we, Inuyasha?"

"What?! I don't have the- OW! Wench what do you...?" He trailed off. Sango ran off towards the bushes crying.

Another year had passed since Miroku had walked out of her life. But not out of her heart. Everyday, she walked forward. Never backward, hoping that the same comforting voice will pop out of no where and tell her he's back. The hope never left her. During the battle with Naraku, her heart was never there. She kept turning around, hoping that she'll hear the familar "Wind Tunnel" being shout out. But no, only Sesshoumaru, Kikyou and Kouga were there. The priest with two earrings and a small pony tail was not anywhere in sight. Frustrated, she let out a scream. A painful scream. A scream full of emotions that only one who has gone through it understands.

A year has passed. He know he's going to die anytime. Not until he saw it vanish. The wind tunnel had vanish. Does that mean they had defeated Naraku? Does that also mean that he can look for Sango now? For the past few months, he had been travelling to different places, hoping one day he'll catch a glimpse of red and silver, or green and white. The one he wanted to see was the brown hair in a loose tail with a two tailed cat.

Each day he'd look around. Sometimes he might pass the places he had been to with his past accompanions. He would catch himself staring wistully at the place, as if staring will bring all of them back. He looked at his right hand. Closing into a fist, he was in a dilemna. Is he going to look for them? If yes, then where should he start with? He had been to Kaede's vilage so many times. Not even a time did he see the familar clothings or hear the familer "Kehs" or "osuwari".

Desperate, he banged his head in the wall. A trickle of blood went down his forehead. He laughed. A laugh devoid of real humour. Reaching into his ropes expecting to find his curse papers, he felt a box. Had it been there all along? He hadn't realise it. Taking it out, he saw it was from Kagome's time. On the box tied what she called a "pigture". It was a picture of Sango and Kirara, sniffing the flowers Kagome and Shippou were beside them and Inuyasha was by the trees. Something caught his eye. The place they had taken the photo's the exact place where he is!

Excited, Miroku tear open the box. Inside was a note and a knife.

Miroku:
I know you'll find this letter someday. I don't even know if you can read but
in any case, Sango told me to give this to you.
It's a memorial of her. She also told me to tell you that if we ever battled
Naraku without you and he died, she said this knife would give you a clue
where she is. Or rather, where we are.

Kagome.

He remembered it. It was a knife. A pocket knife from Sango's exterminator outfit. It pokes out whenever Sango wants it and is kept in her wrist. On one side of the knife was something carved out. "I have one and you have one. One cut heals many hearts. See you where our hearts belong." A sudden understanding dawned on Miroku. Grabbing the knife, Miroku slashed at his hand many times. Hours passed and he knew he was dying. Deciding he would deliver himself the final cut without waiting painfully for death, he carved out on his right wrist: Sango

"Sango! Sango-" Shippou's voice was cut off by Kagome's scream.

Rushing there to find Kagome crying hard and Sango's limp body lying against the tree, he saw Inuyasha comforting Kagome. Walking forward step by step, he saw it.

Sango was bathed in her own blood. Her left wrist looked like it had been slashed many times. One her right hand was one name carved that clearly:Miroku.

Exactly nine trees apart, Miroku laid there. His right wrist had Sango written on it. An understanding dawned on Kagome. "When they died, I don't think they know each other were just nine trees apart." Suddenly, Shippou knees gave way.

"Shippou!" Kagome shouted. Shippou looked up and pointed weakly to their blood.

Kagome stared at it in awe. Inuyasha was speechless, for once.

The blood of Miroku and Sango were slowly moving towards each other. When it touched, it didn't stay. Instead they formed a sentence between the 9 trees : yi sheng yi shi dou zai yi qi.

Kagome, studying chinese language, know exactly what it means. Breaking down, Kagome cried. Cried for her friend. And prayed for her friends' happiness where they truely belong together.
