Chapter Eight: Who Wants to Party?

Sesshomaru walked into the mansion and growled. His wife was right behind him and grabbed his arm. "Sesshomaru?"she asked, worried.

They walked through the house as Sesshomaru followed the scent. Kagome, unsure what was wrong, kept close to him. She then saw Rin's red kimono draped carelessly over on of the dining room chairs.

She grabbed Sesshomaru's arm and pulled him to a stop as realization set in. He glared at her hand and then at her.

She was not going to back down on this. "What do you plan on doing the moment you walk in there? How are you going to stop something that has already been done?" she questioned.

"I will not have my daughter treated as..."

"A what?" she asked, folding her arms over her chest. "Treated as I was treated when you deflowered me? I highly doubt you have to worry about that. After all, doesn't she go to a demon school? Those kids do things like that all the time. They won't say anything to her. Besides, her mate won't let them get away with it even if they tried."

He growled, "Had I known you would've been treated differently..."

"It wouldn't have changed anything, Sesshomaru. I wanted it as much as you did. I still want it as much as you do. I'm not ashamed of what happened. And I'm not ashamed of our daughter's choice. If anything, you should be happy she chose a demon and not a human. She'll finally be able to live without fear of dying at a young age," she told him gently.

She could see the dog demon tense up. She knew he wanted only the best for Rin. If only she could show him that Shippo was the best for her. If for no other reason, then because of the love he had for her. She decided to tell her husband that, "Shippo loves Rin. Moreso then I've ever seen him love anyone. He wants what's best for her as much as we do. We will never have to worry about him. He's perfect for her."

"If he hurts her..."

"Then I give you permission to eat his heart out," she informed him, taking his hand. "Now, let's go on to bed. I've got a special surprise for you."

He looked at her curiously as her eyes lit up mischievously. He knew what that look meant and couldn't help but grin. He let her lead him to their bedroom.

Shippo gazed at the clock. It was six o'clock Monday morning. Had they really slept a whole day away? The kitsune chuckled at that. No, they hadn't slept... They hadn't slept at all Sunday. But, they spent the day in bed. The only time they got out of bed was for small breaks... which usually led them right back to the bed.

Shippo had noticed that Sesshomaru had kept himself away yesterday. It was probably for the best. The kitsune was almost certain the demon lord would have his head when he found out. Kagome had assured him everything would be alright. "Give Sesshomaru some time. He's not used to the idea of having a son in law. Or the idea that his little girl had grown up."

He leaned over and touched Rin's cheek. He hated to have to wake her, but if they didn't hurry, they would both be late for school. He felt her stir as she rested her arm against his chest, her small hand closed in a tight ball. He grinned as he kissed her on the forehead. "My little vixen," he whispered softly, "it's time to get up."

She moaned and rolled onto her other side, determined to hide her face in her pillow. He laughed as he wrapped his arm around her. "Rin..." he called to her.

She snorted, "It's too early to be thinking about that." Her voice was muffled by her pillow.

He chuckled again as he realize she had mistaken his meaning. "It's Monday, Rin," he reminded her.

She shot out of bed and ran for her closet. "Why didn't you tell me that?! Kami-sama, I'm gonna be late for school! Hokochi is probably wondering where I'm at!"

Shippo watched in amusement as she got dressed and threw her shoes on. "I highly doubt he'll be too curious once he sees you," he retorted with a grin.

Rin shook her head. It didn't really matter to her. She didn't care what Hokochi thought. The point was, she was going to be late for school. She hated being late for anything. Especially when she knew her math teacher was going to throw a pop quiz. How did she know? Because it was Monday and he knew she wasn't paying attention. That just how her teacher was. One look at her and he'd scream pop quiz.

She nearly giggled at that. Mr. Tomo? Scream? She wasn't sure he knew the concept of raising his voice higher then a whisper. That's what made his class so interesting. She glared at Shippo. "Well, are you getting dressed? Or at you just gonna sit there all day and stare into space?"

He laughed and went to his own clothes. After they dressed, they walked together into the kitchen to grab something they could take with them. Kagome was sitting at the breakfast table feeding InuTaisho. She called out, "Rin, while you are at school today, why not invite some of your classmates to your birthday? I know you don't have many friends, but there has to be someone there who would like to come."

Rin sighed, but nodded as she and Shippo left the house. "Who does she expect me to invite?" she asked Shippo irritatedly as they got into his car.

He shrugged. He put the car into drive while he thought about it. "You know, you could always invite Edward and Elizabeth. Tomo would probably enjoy coming as well."

"My teachers?!" she gaped. "Don't get me wrong, Shippo, they are nice and everything, but who invites their teachers to their sixteenth birthday?"

The kitsune shrugged. "I'm your teacher, and I'll be there."

She shook her head. "That's different, Shippo. You're also my..." she trembled.

He threw her a mischievous grin before going serious again. "You really should think about inviting them. All things considered, they are your friends."

She nodded at that. Yes, she could honestly say Mr. Peabody and Mr. Tomo were her friends. It was odd having teachers for friends, but when you are the only human in a demon school, you learn not to be picky. "I'll invite them, then. Don't be surprised if they don't come, though," she informed him.

Shippo looked stunned. "Edward?! Not come to a birthday party? Seriously, you must be joking. That rat loves junk food!"

Rin felt lucky a few minutes later. Sometimes, she wanted to kick Shippo for being such a speed demon. She looked at her watch.. A quarter til seven. She still had time to meet up with Hokochi before the bell rang. She thanked her mate and kissed him lightly on the lips. "See you in a few hours," she promised him as she grabbed her backpack and hurried to the hall where her locker was.

She ran to her locker and skidded to a halt when she saw the group of ogres there. She gave a deep sigh, but this time, she had no fear. She stood straight and tall and walked with dignity towards her locker. "If you don't mind, gentlemen," she said politely, "I would like to get to my locker."

The ogres snickered. One of them joked, "The little human wants to get to her locker, fellas."

"If you know what's good for you, you'll step out of my way," she warned.

This comment caused everyone to stop and turn to the human. The ogre who had talked, apparently the leader, growled, "Are you threatening me, human? What'cha gonna do if we don't move?"

Her eyes flared as she put her hands together and began, what looked like, praying. The lead ogre laughed, "Look, fellas, she's praying for her life."

Mr. Peabody had stepped into the hallway to see what the commotion was all about. He saw the ogres and then he saw Rin. At first, he took a step to help her, and then he stopped to look at her curiously. Was she... praying? He didn't understand exactly what was going on, so he stayed back, alert.

She gently moved her hands apart to reveal a glowing blue sphere. She made eye contact with the ogre. Her eyes flared with a lightning blue light. "I am the daughter of Sesshomaru, Lord of the Western Lands," she spoke in a voice that was not her own.

The ogres took a small step back, unsure about what was going to happen. The other students looked on in stunned silence. Hokochi walked up beside Mr. Peabody. "What's going on?" the wolf asked the rat. All he recieved was a shrug.

"I am the daughter of Kagome, Lady of the Western Lands," the human girl continued in that strange, commanding voice. "You are nothing more then a wisp of wind to me. You will learn your place and bow before me you unworthy demon!"

With that, she threw the sphere at the ogres. Lightning racked throughout their bodies and they all fell to their knees clutching their chests. Rin looked up, glaring at the demons before her. "Anyone else wish to challenge me?" she asked. Seeing the fear on their faces, she continued, "Long have I come to this school. A mere human among demons. I have tried making friends to you. Tried being nice to you. And all you do is abuse me. No more! My mother taught me well the ways of a miko. My father taught me how to control those skills.

"I am the daughter of Sesshomaru and Kagome, Lord and Lady of the Western Lands. I will no longer tolerate poor treatment, for I deserve so much more."

With her proclaimation ended, Rin's eyes returned to their normal coffee colour. She quietly walked up to her locker to get her books. Then, she heard it. Two people clapping. She turned around to see Mr. Peabody and Hokochi standing near her, clapping for her. Apparently, the clapping was contagious, for one by one, everyone else began to clap. Soon, there were wolf whistles and hurrahs as the demons cheered on Rin.

She blushed at the sudden attention and closed her locker. Quietly she walked up to her friends. Hokochi was smiling from ear to ear. "I have never been more proud of you," he told her, clapping a hand on her shoulder.

Pain shot through her, for her wound hadn't quite healed yet and was still bruised. She grimaced and gently pushed his hand off. "Thank you, Hokochi," she whispered as she massaged her shoulder.

Mr. Peabody was gleaming. "I knew you could do it, Rin. From the moment I first met you, I knew you had spirit."

She smiled. "Thank you, Ed... I mean, Mr. Peabody."

He laughed, "You can call me Edward here. I doubt, after that performance, anyone will pick a fight with you over it."

She shrugged as she followed him to his classroom. "Edward, is it safe to say we are friends?" she asked, suddenly.

He gave her a stunned glance before nodding. "I believe it is, Rin. You and I have been friends for a while now. Or at least, I would like to think so."

She nodded. "Good. Because, my mother is throwing me a party for my sixteenth birthday and I want you and Elizabeth to come."

He nearly fell over himself with this. "You are inviting us to the great mansion?!" he exclaimed. He laughed as he nodded his head in acceptance, "We would be honoured to attend. When is it?"

"This Saturaday."

"We'll be there."

Rin had been right about math class. The moment Tomo saw her, he flashed her a wicked grin and began handing out papers for the pop quiz. She just smiled sweetly back to him. When she finished her test, she walked up to his desk to hand it in. "So, how was.... Suki?" she asked, hoping she got the name right.

He lifted his eyes to her. Was that a bit of jealousy he heard in her tone? He decided to humor her. "She was... good. Not much, but then, I wasn't really expecting much," he threw to her casually.

She indulged in the conversation. "I know what you mean. She didn't seem like much when I met her. I'm surprised you got anything out of her," she told him truthfully.

This time, he turned his full face to her as he responded in a soft whisper, "I do not believe this is the right time to be discussing such things."

She shrugged. "After class then. I want details," she demanded before returning to her seat.

He watched her go to her seat with interest. The girl had never been intrigued with his private life before. And he had thought for sure she would have been repulsed when she found out what he had planned to do to the naive teenager. Had he made a mistake giving her to the fox? He had seen the teeth marks and knew she had been claimed by the kitsune. Any chances Tomo might have had were now gone for good. Still... her curiousity had intrigued him.

After the class, as predicted, Rin skipped to his desk. "You are not getting any extra assignments, Miss Taisho," he told her automatically.

She giggled, "Well, Mr. Tomo, I don't think Suki is an extra assignment. Unless you need some advice of how to get rid of her stench."

Surprised, he glanced up from his desk. He fought the urge to grab her and kiss her. Just one taste. That's all he wanted. One taste to know what might have been. "What would you like to know?" he asked.

"I did some research on spider demons, so I know how you did it. That's why I assume she must have been nasty. It said that everyone tasted differently to spiders. Mostly depending on what the victim ate, what their life was like, that sort of thing. She wasn't exactly the most appealing person, even if she was beautiful," she explained, sitting on his desk as if she belonged there.

For a moment, he stared at her leg. The school had uniforms and a dress code. The girls wore skirts that were supposed to be to the knees, though most of the girls wore them a lot shorter. It hadn't mattered to Tomo, because he didn't really care. When he had learned of his attraction to young adult females, he found the short skirts to be a pleasant reprieve. Especially when the girls bent down to pick up objects that had falled.

Rin wasn't much different. Though she kept her skirt longer then most of the other girls, it was still pretty short. When she had sat on his desk, she had revelled her bare leg and knee. His hands itched to touch them.

"Tomo?" she asked, breaking him out of his trance.

The spider demon looked up into her coffee coloured eyes. "Suki was beautiful, but she lacked enough iron and vitamins in her body. It was like eating junk food," he admitted, his thoughts on other things that did not include Suki.

Rin looked at him curiously. If she didn't know better she'd think he... Her eyes widened. He couldn't! She thought back on Saturaday night at the restraunt. The whole time there, he had hardly taken his eyes off of her. Then she realized just how often he looked at her... As if... he enjoyed looking at her. She suddenly realized he enjoyed interacting with her as well. Perhaps more then a regular teacher should.

She thought about it for a moment. She knew Shippo wouldn't be upset with her. The kitsune trusted her and knew she would have a good reason for anything she did. She let her curiousity win out.

Slipping her legs around the desk so that they were next to Tomo, she bent down and kissed him. She felt him freeze when their lips met and decided to show him that it was ok. She gently glided her tongue along his bottom lip and got the response she wanted.

He had been stunned when their lips met. Never had anyone just up and kissed him. Especially not one who he was attracted to so much. He felt her tongue along his lip and opened his mouth, eager to taste her. His hands slipped up to her waist and he pulled her into his lap. He let his tongue dive into her mouth, tasting her sweet nectar. She was everything he had dreamed she would be.

His arms wrapped around her body as he pressed her against him. She felt wonderful, she tasted wonderful. His hands glided over her body, feeling her back and her bottom. Then he let one hand slip to her bare legs. He began sliding his hand up her leg, wanting to feel what was under the skirt.

She broke the kiss and gazed at him. He opened his eyes and met her stare. Her fingers entwined in his black hair as she whispered, "I did not know you had felt this way towards me, Tomo."

She looked hurt when she made that statement. He lifted his other hand, the one not on her leg, to her face and cupped her cheek. "How was I to know you would feel the same? You are my student, Rin. More importantly, I am a spider demon. Things never would've have been.... right between us."

She scoffed, "As if I'd care what was right? You forget, I have one parent who is a demon, one who is a human, yet I am full human. I am terrified of wolves, yet my best friend is a wolf. I am sitting in your lap kissing you, and yet, I am mated."

He closed his eyes at that statement and leaned his forehead against hers. "I should have told you sooner," he whispered.

She smiled as she pulled him into a hug. "Sometimes life throws obstacles in our paths that we do not know how to maneuver around. The challenge is to overcome those obstacles," she murmurred.

He pulled away from her slightly and kissed her gently on the lips. He liked the way she tasted and he wanted more. "I love you, Rin," he breathed into her mouth.

She broke the kiss and sighed, "You were just a little too late."

He felt his heart break as she softly got out of his lap. He peeked up at her, knowing he would regret not having said anything before.

"Tomo, although we cannot be lovers, I hope you would consider being my friend," she offered.

The spider thought it over. He wasn't known to have many friends, but he found if anything, yes, he wanted to be friends with her. He nodded. "Being friends with you would be an honour," he told her.

She smiled at him. "I don't know how much you are into parties. My mother is holding a celebration for my birthday this Saturaday. I would be grateful if you could come," she told him.

He nodded and accepted the invitation. As she turned to leave, she stopped at the door and told him, "Naraku was one of the most notorious spiders in history. He gave the spider demons a horrible reputation. It was because of him that many spider demons were killed. It's good to know that not all spiders are like Naraku. He truly was an evil man."

"You speak as if you knew him," Tomo commented.

She nodded. "I did. I didn't know him well, and I don't remember much of him. I was just a child when Naraku was around. What I do remember of him, I never did like."

His curiousity turned to confusion. "Rin... Naraku has been dead for over five hundred years. There is no possible way you could have met him."

Rin threw him a mischievous glance. "Just remember, Tomo. Things aren't always as they seem."

She left him with that thought. He sat back in his seat and mentally went over everything that had just happened. He had been depressed that she could never be his, but now, he was outright confused. How did she know Naraku? He remembered the evil spider demon, though he was the equivalent to Rin's age now at the time.

When his mother had come home with news of Naraku's destruction, Tomo had been thrilled. Naraku had given spiders a very bad name and it was a rejoice that he was gone. But, the rejoice was short lived as spiders became the main target for bounties. He had watched as his mother had died from a human spear. He hadn't cared and didn't even shed a tear for her death. But, the idea the spear could've been aimed at him, had sent the young spider into hiding.

Tomo had hid for three hundred years. When he had finally emerged, he came out stronger then any other spider demon alive. But, he was different then the others. While he held some bitterness towards the world for forcing him to hide, Tomo had decided it wasn't all that bad. He went on living his life the way it was supposed to be lived. He didn't care much for power, but he knew that power was the reason he was alive. He had fought many of his kin to keep them from destroying him or sucking in his soul.

Many spiders had feared Tomo was the next Naraku. Indeed, the spider demon in human form even looked a lot like Naraku. He had long, thick black hair that he kept in a high ponytail. The hair crashed in waves down his back and his shoulders. His dark eyes sometimes flashed to red when he was angry. He even had the same pale skin and pointed chin that Naraku had carried.

But, Tomo was vastly different from Naraku. If not in appearance, then in personality. While the spider demon would do pretty much anything to keep himself alive, he was not cruel, nor did he desire power as Naraku had. He was also a full demon, while Naraku had been a half breed.

As he watched his classroom fill up with students, he felt himself wonder again at Rin's confession. She had known Naraku. Question was, how? And more importantly, if she knew Naraku, then did she know Tomo's deepest, darkest secret?

~*~*~

Hey, everybody, just wanted to drop a note! No, Tomo does not have a last name. In fact, most of the demons at the school do not have last names. So, now you are probably asking, "Well, why is the rat named Edward Peabody? Isn't that a last name?"

Yes, but remember, Peabody isn't from Japan. He was raised in England, where, they did take on last names. Especially after the Medieval period. We all know this already, so I don't really need to say it.

And yes, Japanese do have last names these days and probably have had them for years, but that doesn't mean the Japanese demons have to have them. A lot of the students have last names, save perhaps a handfull who come from wealthy enough families or who have families that are well known, like Hokochi.

Shippo took on the last name because of the adoption. Remember the last story? He had decided to keep the last name because of Kagome. Remember, he still believed her to be his mother, even after she went back to the present. So, he kept the last name so that he would remember his mother.

Ummm... other then that... I hope ya'll are enjoying it so far. I wonder what Tomo's deep, dark secret is... I know it has something to do with Naraku.... but.... what? ;)
