InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Love Me, Trust Me ❯ Will You? ( Chapter 1 )

Finding shelter from the rain had become a normal thing to the small group. It was always simple, what with the skills of the young monk. However, snow was a different story.

Inuyasha and Kagome had been separated from the rest of the gang. Sango had gone to the exterminator’s village, with assistance from Miroku. The monk had insisted on going. They had convinced Shippo to stay with Kaede, as this mission was too dangerous for the kit.

They had heard rumors of an ominous demon in the mountains. Thinking that it could be Naraku, Inuyasha had taken Kagome along with him to investigate, swearing that it was just because she could see the shards.

After hours of searching, Kagome had finally spotted a small cabin through the heavy snow. Inuyasha sat sulking in a corner, presumably because he had not spotted it first.

“Hey, Kagome. Don’t you have better sense than to wear that skirt in the middle of a snow storm?” asked Inuyasha gruffly.

Kagome sneezed. “Well, I wasn’t really planning on coming here. I was supposed to be home. But no… you had to come drag me on a wild goose chase!”

Kagome knew that he just wanted to be with her, despite his grumbling when they had left Kaede’s. She smiled just thinking about their new found relationship. It had been a slip of tongue on his part. He had blushed madly, doing a serious impression of an apple, though she was sure her own blush had rivaled it.

The cabin wasn’t the biggest she had seen, but it wasn’t small either. The entire gang could easily rest in the seemingly abandoned cabin. Kagome made a mental note of this as she stared in awe at the décor of the main room.

It was nice for a small cabin in this time period. The furniture was surprisingly elaborate. There was one thing, however, that gained Kagome’s attention. In the center of the far wall of the living area, or that’s what it seemed to be used for, was an intricately detailed curtain hanging from a beautiful golden rod.

She was just heading over to see what it was when she was interrupted by Inuyasha’s gruff voice calling her name.

“Kagome, come here!”

She turned to find him standing by the shoji to the other room of the place. She had wondered what was in there. “What is it?” she asked.

“It’s a bedroom.”

Kagome looked past him into the room. It was very plain, well, except for the shockingly western style bed in the corner of the room.

“There’s a bed like your’s. How…? Unless…”

Inuyasha sniffed around the room. He glanced at Kagome and turned silently and left.

“Inuyasha?” Kagome slowly followed him. “Inuyasha, what’s wrong?”

“Nothin’ It’s just….”

He waved his hand in the direction of the curtains that had caught her attention earlier. She looked at him, confusion in her eyes.

“Look behind the curtain.”

“Why?”

“You’ll see. Just look.”

She walked over and carefully pulled back the material. She gasped at what she saw. Hidden beneath the cloth was a painting of none other than Inuyasha’s parents.

“They used to live here, didn’t they?”

“I thought I recognized the scent of this place when we got here. I saw their crest in the bedroom. But there was something else…”

Kagome looked at him, trying to catch his eye. She could always read his eyes. Physically, any signs of distress could be hidden, but she could always see through to his soul when she looked into them.

However, he kept his gaze downcast. “Inuyasha, what is it? Something’s bothering you.”

“It’s just that…, I don’t think that it was just luck that made us find this cabin.”

She saw a small smile grace the corners of his lips. Just as suddenly as it appeared, however, it was gone. “What do you mean?”

“It’s hard to explain, really. It’s a demon thing, well, a dog demon thing.”

“What is it? It can’t be that bad…. Can it?”

By now, she could sense nervousness in his aura. It couldn’t be bad, there was no way.

“It depends. Would you be willing to make a commitment?”

“Why?”

“Because, for me to tell you this, you have to be willing.”

“Willing to what, exactly? Come on, Inuyasha, just tell me. We’ve been going out for almost a year now. You can tell me anything…”

Inuyasha sighed. He didn’t know how to tell her how important this was. Not that he hadn’t been thinking about it…. On the contrary, he had been thinking about it quite a lot. He just wished he would have known that it would be this soon. But, the decision had to be made at some point. Kami, why did it have to be so soon?

“A tradition was started years agoin the dog demon tribe. When someone found his or her mate, there was an enchantment that allowed him to know if it was… I guess you could say… right. The leader at that time decided that there would be a different sign for every family in the clan.”

Kagome nodded her head to let him know that she followed him so far. She was curious about the outcome of this.

“My dad’s just so happened to be this cabin. When he met Mom, it appeared when they were ready to become mated, or so she told me.”

“How does that apply to you? That was their sign, right?”

“It passes down through the generations…”

She gasped. Struck speechless, all she could do was stare as Inuyasha walked over to where she was standing. There, under the beautifully painted portrait of his parents, Inuyasha pulled Kagome to him. Their lips met in the most passionate kiss that the two had ever shared. Fighting tears, Kagome pulled away, still locked in his tight embrace.

Inuyasha searched her face for any sign of hesitation or fear. He knew that it was important that she would have no regrets. This was possibly the most permanent decision that she would ever make.

“Kagome, I need you to make a decision now,” he said as he noticed a thin shimmering mist surround them. “Will you be my mate?”

The small amount of restraint that Kagome was clinging onto snapped as she burst into to tears. Nodding her head alost violently, she buried her face in his chest. He waited for her to gain a little bit of composure to start talking again.

“Are you sure?” He waited for her to nod. “I need you to take off your shirt.” Noticing her reluctancy he added, “Don’t worry, I won’t try anything if you’re not ready.”

She slowly moved away from him, she wasn’t too sure what he was doing, but she removed her shirt and waited. She trusted him to abide by his word.

She winced when she saw him cut himself with his claw. He took his blood and, with surprising gentleness, wrote the kanji for love over her heart. She felt a tingling sensation. It was then that she noticed the mist. A small amount of it formed his name on her chest, the blood disappeared, and she looked at him again. Noticing the frown on his face, she asked, “What’s wrong?”

“Now it’s your turn…”

She realized that he didn’t want her to be hurt. “Don’t worry. I’ll be fine.”

She jumped a little when he cut her, but proceded to write love on his chest as he had removed his shirts. She watched in awe as the mist formed her name on his chest… just over his heart.

As they went in for another kiss, both teary-eyed, neither having said a word, the mist seemed to explode, covering everything with light. And then all was still…
