Get a grip, girl. You're never going to see him again.

"Aw, man, I'm never going to finish this homework, if I don't stop thinking about him.”

Kagome Higurashi flipped her textbook closed and laid her head on her desk. Studying Art History was just too boring and she was easily distracted by thoughts of the man she had seen nearly two weeks ago. She just couldn’t seem to get him out of her head.

Nineteen years old and in her second year at Tokyo University as an Art major, this was the first time she had ever had a hard time completing an assignment. She just couldn’t seem to keep her mind on the books in front of her. Even in classes she was spacing out. This morning she had gone through an entire lecture without hearing a single word or writing down any notes. Thankfully, she had been able to copy notes from Ayumi or she would have been in major trouble.

At least during her actual drawing classes she felt like her mind was free to roam. She could easily lose herself in her drawings without any worries. Time just seemed to stop when she had a drawing pencil in her hand and a blank sheet of paper in front of her. She had actually caught herself trying to draw his face from memory, but no matter how hard she tried the features just weren’t coming out right.

“If only I could see him again. Maybe I could ask him to sit for me. He’d probably think I was crazy asking a perfect stranger if I can draw his portrait.”

Sighing, she softly blew her bangs from her eyes as she looked at the half finished drawing on her desk.

“He’s so gorgeous. He’d make the perfect model. That hair and those eyes. There’s just something so sensual and mysterious about him. I’d love to capture it on paper.”

She looked longingly at the picture. “ Forget it, girl. It’s never going to happen. It’s best to just put him out of your mind and pretend you never saw him.”

Kagome let her head flop down on the desk. “Right, like that’s going to happen anytime soon.”

“Kagome!”

Startled from her reverie, Kagome banged her knee on the underside of the table.

“Oww!”

“Kagome!”

“Yes, Mom!” She gingerly rubbed the abused limb as she stood up. This day just keeps getting better and better.

“Sango’s on the phone for you,” her mother replied.

“Be there in a minute!”

She hobbled to the door. I wonder what Sango could want, she thought. Oh, well, studying is out of the question for now. Maybe she can distract me from my distraction.

"Kagome, over here!"

Sango waved to her friend from her seat at the back of the restaurant. She watched as Kagome made her way through the maze of tables. It had been weeks since they had last seen each other and Sango was excited about catching up with her friend.

"Sango, it's so good to see you! How have you been? I'm so glad you called me last night. I've been wondering what you have been up to." The two girls embraced. Taking seats opposite each other, they sat down.

Lightly shaking her long brown hair, Sango let out a tired sigh. "I've been busy studying. I've had a test in almost every one of my classes. Thankfully they weren't all on the same day or I would have gone insane. Plus, I had a paper due in Criminology. I've been holed up in the library for two weeks."

"Third year is tough, huh?", Kagome asked. "I'll be lucky to make it through this year and I'm only an Art major."

Sango smiled at her friend. "Well, Criminal Justice is hard, but I never back down from a challenge. I've dreamed of working for the FBI for as long as I can remember. Besides, it's a family tradition."

Her smile faltered as she remembered her father who had been killed in the line of duty. Kagome remained silent. She had been there that day and Sango remembered crying on her friend's shoulder. When Kagome's dad died two years later, Sango had been there to offer her shoulder. It was what had made them such close friends.

Sango pushed aside the memories. "Well, tell me what you've been doing lately?"

"There's not much to tell really. I've been busy with classes also. They're just so much harder this year. And..." Kagome fidgeted in her seat.

"And... come on, Kagome. Spit it out." Sango reached across the table and squeezed the younger girl's hand. "Is there something bothering you? You know you can tell me anything."

"Well, it's nothing really bad. I just sort of met this guy."

"Really!" Sango squealed excitedly. "Tell me all about him."

"Actually, I don't know much about him," Kagome sighed. " I didn't even get to talk to him."

"Okay, let me get this straight. You met a guy, but you didn't talk to him?" Sango sat back in her chair with a puzzled look. "How is that possible?"

Kagome quickly grabbed a menu. "Why don't we order some food first. I'm starving!"

Sango eyed her suspiciously. What is she stalling for? Slowly, she picked up her menu. "All right, but you're not getting out of this that easily. I want to hear every last detail."

Kagome could feel Sango's questioning gaze throughout the whole meal. She tried to make casual small talk, but she could tell Sango wasn't going to forget that easily. How do I tell her I'm obsessed with a guy I don't even know? She'll think I'm crazy!

"So, are you going to tell me or am I going to have to drag it out of you?", Sango asked as she was finishing the last of her salad. Kagome had barely touched her food. She was too busy rehearsing exactly what she wanted to tell Sango. Maybe she really was crazy after all. Might as well get it over with.

Kagome roughly ran her fingers through her hair. "I saw this guy at a department store when I was shopping with my mother. I didn't get to talk to him. I don't know anything about him, but he's the most beautiful guy I've ever seen." She let out a defeated sigh, "And I'll probably never get to see him again."

Sango stared at her blankly, "Why don't you just go back and see him? We'll go together. I can always use an excuse to go shopping."

"No, Sango, you don't understand. He works in the Men's Clothing department. What would two girls our age be doing there unless we were shopping for husbands or boyfriends?!"

"So pretend you’re shopping for a boyfriend."

Kagome stared at Sango in disbelief. Now I know who the crazy one is here! I can't do that! "Oh, that's just great! I'll just pickup a guy while I'm shopping for my "boyfriend". He'll think I'm some kind of tramp!"

"Look, either get some backbone and ask the guy out, or be alone for the rest of your life." Sango softly drummed her fingers on the table. "Or you could just settle for Hojo," she said, giving Kagome a wicked smile. "He's head over heels in love with you."

Kagome put her head in her hands. "Please, don't remind me! He's only been asking me out since ninth grade. I mean he is sweet, but all the presents and compliments are enough to make me gag."

“I was just kidding. I‘d rather see you a lonely old woman who talks to her cats, than married to Hojo.”

Lifting her head, she looked at Sango pleadingly. "I’m really attracted to this man, Sango, but I have no idea how to ask a guy out. I don't even know if I can talk to him."

"Don't worry!”, she said as she leaned over and patted the top of Kagome’s head. “Tomorrow we'll do a little shopping and check this guy out some more. Then we'll go from there." Sango leaned back in her seat with a satisfied smug. She looks a little too happy with herself, Kagome thought. What is she getting me into!

"Since when do you know so much about dating? I can't remember the last time you had a date, let alone a boyfriend."

"Hey! I'm just waiting for the right guy to come along. Can I help it if they're all jerks?! Sango's eyes flashed in agitation as she hit the table with her fist. "Besides, you know most guys don't like girls like me. They want Barbie dolls not real women."

"Of course, it doesn't have anything to do with the fact that you can kick their ass into next week." Kagome grinned, "How many forms of martial arts do you know? Four."

"I have to be able to defend myself if I'm going to be a cop. I have to be better than most men if I'm going to make it!" Sango’s voice was becoming louder by the second. Kagome noticed several people staring at them with concerned looks. Whoa, better calm her down. I didn’t mean to get her riled up. I should have known better.

"Okay," Kagome held up her hands in defeat. "I understand, just don't kill the table."

"Sorry, you know I hate it when people question my choice of profession. I know you were just getting me back for making you talk about that guy."

"Actually, I'm really glad I told you. It's been driving me crazy for two weeks. Now at least I have somebody to talk to about him. Maybe I can start concentrating on my homework again."

"It's that bad?" Sango asked.

"You have no idea"

Author's Note: Finally this chapter is done! I think I finally know where this story is going at least I have a few little plot bunnies running through my head. I had a hard time writing this chapter. I hope it doesn't bore you to death. Thanks to all my reviewers!

xxprincess-sakuraxx - Here's the update. Hope this chapter is long enough.

dancergirlcf - Cross dresser?! lol. I hadn't really thought about what store he works for. I wasn't really thinking about a mall. We have a few nice department stores around here that aren't in malls. I didn't use food service, because that just seems like a teenager's job. He's a little older than that in this story.

toxiclollipop - I thought the whole men's clothing section was funny, too. I don't think very many people got that.

serenitygirl13 - Thanks for reading. I tried to make this chapter longer. Hope you enjoyed it!
