Chapter 1-Trapped

“I wish the well opened!”

“Feh! As if that would ever work….” InuYasha snorted, stuffing his arms inside the sleeves of his wide signature red haori.

Kagome sighed as she opened her right eye, peeking down at the Shikon no Tama which she clutched in her hands. Slumping her shoulders, she tilted her head to look at the hanyou who was currently sitting with his back against the now-dormant Bone Eater's Well.

“Kagome, if I may?” Miroku reached out for the jewel tentatively…almost afraid it might break should he touch it. Kagome blinked quickly before shoving the jewel in to his hand.

“Be my guest.” She scowled, happy to place the rebellious jewel in to the monk's hand. “Good luck” she muttered under her breath.

Miroku closed his eyes, mumbling a quick prayer under his breath. “Shikon no Tama, I wish the Bone Eater's Well would reopen and allow Kagome a safe passage to and fro her world once more.” He said in a very professional voice, shaking his staff in the process of holding the pink jewel over the opening of the well.

InuYasha's left ear twitched as he snorted. Kagome held her breath, watching for any reaction the jewel might give. Miroku held the jewel over the well for a good two minutes, silence falling the group and the meadow in which they sat on. “Please?” Miroku added, shaking the jewel in his hand.

Kagome groaned, falling on her rear and twirling a strand of grass around her index finger. “Don't loose hope, Kagome,” Sango said, petting Kirara's head, “I'm sure the jewel will react eventually.”

“Yes” Miroku agreed, kneeling besides the Miko and dropping the jewel back on her lap. “Perhaps the jewel needs some time to recuperate. After all, it was in Naraku's grasp quite some time.”

“Maybe…” Kagome said, biting her bottom lip.

“What do you think, InuYasha?” Sango asked, looking over at the hanyou, who yawned.

“I think you're all fucked up and that jewel…” he said, jerking his hand in the general direction of the Shikon no Tama. “…is a piece of shit. I'm going to catch dinner.”

He stood up with a scowl on his face, grabbing Tetsusaiga and jumping for the nearest tree.

“Be careful!” He heard Kagome's gentle voice as he turned away.

“Yeah, yeah!”

He didn't understand it actually. Naraku had been successfully defeated. He had saved Kagome's soul from being trapped within the jewel hadn't he? It had been a terrible battle, actually…and for once, InuYasha had trembled in fear for a minute. And once Naraku laid slain and the black jewel laid in the pool of his blood, Kagome had reached over and picked it up.

It hadn't turned pink immediately, though. He remembered clearly…he had dropped Tetsusaiga and walked over to Kagome, all battered up, but he hugged her, held her close. He had come so close to loosing her. Miroku had sat near a tree, staff besides him, looking at his now smooth palm, free from Naraku's curse. And Sango, holding her brother close to her heart and he clutched her, cried with her. Little Shippo had curled up besides Kirara and hadn't moved.

Even Sesshoumaru nodded his head in approval to InuYasha before walking away with Kagura behind him. They had spent the next four days in the village, taking in the fact they had defeated their ultimate enemy. And over those four days, the jewel gradually began to turn pink.

A week after defeating Naraku, everything had been fine. Kagome had taken him to her world and they had re-stocked on supplies. Kagome had waved goodbye to her family, promising to visit in two weeks after trying to held re-build the villages destroyed by Naraku. Mrs. Higurashi had bid them farewell and they had taken off early in the morning. The nearest village had been a day's travel and together, the group had helped the villagers in need.

One early morning, the jewel gave off a tremendous light, waking up the whole village. Once the light had settled down, they had seen the jewel around Kagome's neck turned a majestic pink, glowing softly and purely against her chest. Two weeks later, when they tried to return to Kagome's time, they realized that because the jewel was completely pure, the well had closed itself, trapping Kagome in the Sengoku Jidai.

InuYasha thought what hurt Kagome the most was knowing she would never see her family again. Immediately, they tried to wish on the jewel only to discover it was unresponsive to any wish they attempted. Shippo had even asked the jewel for world domination.

That had all been a little over four months ago. During the first few days since they discovered the well was sealed, he had heard Kagome cry herself to sleep. He had smelt the salt in her tears, the melancholy her aura carried. And although he said nothing, her pain had hurt him to.

“I can't return your family to you, Kagome…b-but I…I-I can give you a new one if you'll have me…”

He had said that to her. `While she was asleep' a little voice in the hanyou's head reminded him. He snorted. So what if the wench had been asleep? She still had heard him somewhere deep down hadn't she?

“Feh!” He snorted, narrowing his golden gaze on a pair of rabbits who hopped around in the fallen leaves of the forest trees. It took nearly no effort to catch and rabbits and kill them with a quick swipe of his razor-sharp claws. As he made his way back to the village, he sighed.

He stopped a tree before he reached the forest. There she was: Kagome was walking alongside Sango…probably discussing the final details for the slayer's wedding to one certain perverted monk. Making a few, he decided to go around the village to Kaede's hut.

`Kagome'll probably freak out if she sees these dead rabbits.' He thought with an inward snort, believing the Miko would always act absurd seeing the animal before it was cooked yet she always ate it with a happy little grin. Without bothering to knock on the outside of the wooden hut, InuYasha stormed in, dropping the dead rabbits next to Kaede and proceeding to cross his arms over his chest.

“We're having those tonight. Cook `em will ya.” He said, more as a command than a request.

Kaede sighed, not bothering to argue against the irritated hanyou. “How would ye like it cooked?”

“Feh! I don't care, make it the way that damn wench likes it.”

A knowing little smile formed on Kaede's aged face before she picked up the rabbits and nodded. “InuYasha?”

“What?” InuYasha turned around, already having been halfway across the entrance of the hut.

“Have ye decided when to tell Kagome of your feelings for her?”

He snorted. “What feelings?” He asked in an annoyed fashion, as though hinting Kaede was crazy for thinking he had `feelings' for Kagome.

“I said nothing.” Kaede said, adding more wood to the fire in the center of her hut. “Now, be useful and tell Kagome to gather some of the garden herbs for me.”

“Whatever.” InuYasha replied, quickly leaving the hut and sighing in relief that Kaede did not pressure him for anything on Kagome.

“…I think Miroku would love these!”

He heard Kagome's sweet voice drift over to him and he sighed, leaning his back heavily against the hut. Her voice was like silk…carried with such a sweet melody that he admired. `Damn' he thought with a wince, jumping up silently on Kaede's roof. Peeking over the edge, he saw Kagome and Sango looking through different kinds of flowers.

“InuYasha, may I ask what you are doing up there?”

Growling at the monk's question, he nearly fell off the roof in an attempt to hide from Kagome and Sango. Jumping off, he brushed imaginary dust off his hakama before snorting.

“Just taking in the view you damn monk.”

“You mean of Kagome of course?”

InuYasha growled before jumping in to the trees again, much to Miroku's amusement.

`Where could he have gone?' Kagome wondered to herself as she made her way through the dark forest. InuYasha had been missing for nearly two hours. She had already tried the usual spots: the well…Goshinboku…even Kaede's roof, but he was no where to be found.

Sighing as he walked deeper in to the forest, she missed the small root sticking up from the ground. Not two seconds later, it caught her ankle and she fell forward, grunting as she hit the ground. Kagome made a face sitting up and rubbing her throbbing ankle furiously.

“What are you doing out here alone?” a very familiar and angry voice asked seconds before InuYasha dropped before her with his marked scowl in place.

“Looking for you, you baka! You've been gone for hours!”

“And that makes you risk getting attacked you dumb wench? You have the jewel, you have to be careful!”

“Shut up! This wouldn't have happened if you hadn't left!” Kagome yelled back, narrowing her eyes at the hanyou. He sighed, but didn't argue, though he could think of a few things to say back to her.

Instead, he knelt besides her and looked at her ankle. “You'll live” he concluded.

She rolled her eyes, but smiled. “The food is ready. We've been waiting for you.”

He hunkered down behind her, placing one hand under her arms and one under her knees, he lifted her up without breaking a sweat. Her arms immediately wrapped around his neck and she sighed happily.

“Kaede will look at your leg before we eat.” He said in a tone which left no room for discussion.

`InuYasha…' She thought, nodding once before taking in a deep breath. His scent always wrapped her head up in romantic thoughts. For reasons she didn't know, it enticed her in a very strong fashion. “InuYasha?”

He didn't look at her and he didn't stop walking, but he did murmur a “Hmm?”

“I'm glad you're safe.” She said softly, before pulling herself up and brushing her lips against his cheek. Even in the darkness, she could see his cheeks were flustered, which brought a grin to her face.

“F-Feh…” He grumbled. “Don't slobber on me.”

She giggled and snuggled against his shoulder. She noticed he slowed down his pace, but she didn't mind. Neither of them minded. They both were thoroughly enjoying each other's silent company.
