Loving the Undead
Chapter 1~ Red Moon
The moon shone with a sickly red glow the night they came. The air was hazy and cold, stinging the young girl's eyes, making it difficult for her to see what was ahead. Only the sickly glow of the crimson moon lit the small crevasses of ground below the dense sea of green. Winds howled with such a force it blew off the remaining leaves from the skeleton-like trees.
She ran, dark raven hair billowing behind her. She sensed them, not more than 200 yards away and gaining. The moment she pricked her finger the fear clasped around her heart. A simple thorn could do so much damage. The knowledge of what could happen made her blood run cold, like theirs.
That simple thorn, drawing a small droplet of blood, called to them, sang to them. It was what they lived on. Oh why had she left the safety of her home tonight of all nights? Why did she not think to bring any kind of weapon? What made her go against her instincts and come? She did not know the answers, but she was there?
In the centre of the forest, it's heart, she ran. Something was calling to her, like blood called to them. So she left what little safety she had and came. That's when she felt it. An ominous presence lurking in the shadow's of the forest. At that moment the spell over her broke, bringing her back to reality.
The reality of loneliness and darkness. Bringing realizations of her stupidity, of all the danger she was in. So she turned and ran. Through the dense trees and shrubs she fought through. But the undergrowth was not so willing to let her free. A branch snagged onto her black-leather, jacket, stopping her escape. In a small attempt to free her from the thorny branch, she moved her hand back to unhook it, only to be pricked by one of the surrounding thorns. A small thorn at that, but still it drew blood. Only a drop, but that didn't matter.
She ran and ran, for what seemed like forever, until finally she could see the entrance of the forest. Her safety was a mere two minutes run at her pace. If only she could make it out of the forest and into her home. Then she would be safe, and they couldn't get her.
Her mother had seen her leave, and almost stopped her, but decided against it. She just let it by as another duty her 15-year-old daughter had to perform. The thought that her daughter had not taken any weapons had never crossed her mind, neither had the possible dangers. This was normal… for her type.
A few more strides and she would be free of the forest. Each second seemed to pass by as an hour. Up until just then, she had been able to sense them, but now, now they seemed to have disappeared. A feeling of relief washed over her. They were gone, or so she thought. Just as the light of the entrance to freedom almost consumed her, their energy spiked. They were to her left, her right they were everywhere.
Just as her pulse began to quicken, she began to concentrate on remaining calm. They would not get the better of her. They would not reduce her to a shaking teenage girl. She would not throw away nine long years of training to one night.
All of them were still, not one moved, and neither did she. The silence was brought to an end when one of them attacked from her right. With ease she dodged his attack, but was quickly attacked from behind. Her training shone through when yet again she dodged the second assailants attack. More of them attacked and soon she was facing nearly the entire group.
Not one was able to land a single blow on her. Before long they knew her moves, and she had to start her own attack. She jumped high above their heads, and as she ascended down she stuck out one leg and began to rotate her entire body. She began spinning faster and faster. Finally, when she was low enough she began to bring them down with her powerful kick.
As her feet touched the ground, more of them took the places of their fallen comrades. Still her attack continued. She began to grow tired and it seemed that this would be it, this would be her downfall. Yet as she fell and they came closer, licking their lips in hunger, a strong roar commanded that they all stop and back off. Listening to the command they all fell back and cleared a way of entrance for, what she guessed was their leader.
All of them moved farther back, as wearily, she stood up. The girl came face to face with the clan's leader. His was pale, with long dark locks surrounding it. His eyes glowed red, the look of victory and lust, laced with hunger was evident in his crimson pools. The girl thought he was very handsome, but dismissed that thought almost immediately. He was dead, or more specific undead, and thus ugly.
His lips curled into a smirk and his dark eyes seemed to grow brighter. She hated those eyes and that smirk. This was not the first time she had seen it. No the first of many times was when he had taken her friend Ayumi.
~Flashback~
A beautifully dark song carried through the wind. It captured the two girls in a deadly trance. I called to them. It drugged them. Without any control they stumbled over to the source of the entrancing song. Crimson eyes shone in the darkness of the forest. They were tainted with malice and hunger. She would never forget those eyes.
One of the girls stumbled and hit her head on a rock, dragging her into a state of drowsiness and confusion. The fall broke the spell over the girl, but she was to out of it to do anything, while the other girl was dragged into the forest, and into those eyes.
The temptation of sleep began to grow to be too much for the one girl. Yet she still was unable to let the darkness of unconsciousness claim her as her friend was brought into the arms of the creature that held those eyes. She watched in horror as her friend was taken from the world of living. Fangs drew out of her friend's skin and dripped with fresh blood. Tears begin to blur her vision as her friend's lifeless form fell to the ground. The creature picked up her body and began to walk in her direction.
“No…. Ayumi….” She was able to choke out.
“Yes girl. Your friend is with me now. Your time will come too. Not tonight, but soon. Just wait my child, the song will call on you again.” His voice whispered to the girl that lay at his feet.
She lay there, unable to move. As he walked away, sleep claimed her.
~End of Flashback~
“Ah, dear girl, what a pleasure it is to have you join us on this fine night. I told you years ago that the song would call upon you again, and here you are. How you've grown.” The leader said.
“Bas...tard.” She choked out.
“Now, now, no need for harsh words. I let you live four years ago, and this is how you repay me? I feel hurt.”
“Shut up! I owe you nothing! You killed my friend and expect me to be courteous with you? You are nothing but a leech. A thing that feeds off others! I will never show respect to you!” The girl screamed.
“How deliciously feisty you are. You were indeed worth the wait. As for you friend, she is not dead. In fact… Ayumi my child, come and get reacquainted with your old friend.” With his words a slim teenage girl with red eyes and pale skin stepped out of the crowed.
“Oh my dear friend how I've missed you,” she sneered. “I was afraid you wouldn't remember me after I was reborn.”
“That is not my friend! My friend died four years ago…”
“How can you say that when she is standing right before you?” The clan leader said.
“The moment your teeth penetrated her skin, she was dead.”
“Fine if that's the way you feel about it…” With a small wave Ayumi disappeared into the crowed of undead creatures. “Well anyway we have business to attend to, so shall we begin?”
Slowly he began to walk closer t the girl. She backed up until her back was against a tree. The leader smiled. This was going to be fun.
“Don't you touch me, you filth!”
“But if I don't how will the prophecy come to pass?”
Slowly his armed went out and grabbed her arm. He walked closer to her pinning her between his cold body and the tree. A soft song began to waft into her ears. Her muscles became loose and her head began to spin. The man brought his head down to her collarbone and licked her skin, savouring its sweet taste.
“Please…Dokuga… don't…” She managed to choke out.
He smiled, so the girl knew his name. He brought he cold lips up to her ear and whispered, “Not tonight child, I just want a taste…” His lips moved down to her wrist. Slowly he sunk his teeth into the pulse of her wrist.
The surrounding vampires licked their lips with the smell of her rare blood. She being pure of soul and heart, with power immense, had rare and exquisite blood. They all wanted to drink blood of this rarity.
Hot pain, mixed with a feeling of pleasure overcame her body. She wanted to cry out but held back. Tears threatened to spill out, but she blinked them back. He slowly withdrew and licked his lips of her blood. The exhaustion caught up with the young girl and she crumpled to the forest floor.
With a satisfied voice, laced with amusement, Dokuga called for the others to take leave. “You my dear, taste wonderful. We shall meet again. In four years time, on a night like tonight I will claim you as my own. You will join the undead and serve as my queen. But until then, work hard, for I'm sure you will not go down without some form of protest. Goodbye… Kagome.”
With that he took his leave. Kagome began to tremble as tears finally began to fall. They left her alone to wobble home, in the now rising sun.
