Chapter 1

First Day Butterflies

There it stood in all its glory. Foreboding black, iron gates rose up around it on all sides, jagged sentinels of those children belonging to the wealthy and prestigious.

Located on the outskirts of Tokyo, Kyouka Academy is the most esteemed school in all of Japan. Very few were privileged enough to attend, and ever fewer granted teaching jobs.

Lady luck was on her side it seemed. Today was the beginning of her career as Kyouka Academy's newest athletic director and the start of a brand new way of life.

Taking a deep breath, Sango Taijiya put the car in park and prepared to cross the threshold, leaving her old life behind her. There was no turning back now.

"Come on Kohaku, we can't be late on our first day." Sango straightened out her crinkled black, knee-length skirt. She had just pulled into the staff parking lot located on the left side behind the building.

Checking over her reflection over in the car window, she tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear. Her younger brother exited the passenger side and slammed the car door.

"Kohaku! What have I told you about hurting my baby?"

The fifteen year old rolled his eyes. "Sorry Sis."

Sango's hot pink Jaguar XJ8 was her prized possession. Having been a present from her late father, she treated it like a member of the family. It was a present for her 21st birthday, and the color had to be custom ordered.

"So, do I look okay?" she nervously asked her sibling.

"For the hundredth time, you look fine!" Satisfied, she adjusted her purse on her shoulder and strode towards the building with confidence.

"Hey, wait up Sango!" Kohaku muttered, "Damn fast, even in those stupid heels." Yes, today was the beginning of something wonderful.

How on Earth were they supposed to find the office in a place this size? The main building held over fifty classrooms, with the Science wing on the right and the gymnasium/pool wing on the left.

Sango and Kohaku stood dumbfounded in the main entry way. Thirty foot ceilings towered above them, graced by paintings of Japanese mythology. The double doors they had passed through were flanked on both sides by ten windows that rose to the ceiling, flooding the room with sunlight. They were almost afraid to walk on the marble floors.

Sango set her face with determination. Nothing and no one intimidated her; surely, she could find a stupid office. Grabbing Kohaku's hand, she pulled him towards the left hallway. "Come on, I think it's this way." The youth blushed. His first day of ninth grade and his sister was holding his hand like he was a toddler!

"Sango, I just saw a sign that said the office is the other way!"

Ignoring his outburst, "Would you just trust me? It's this way!" Kohaku gave up and let his older sister drag him, obviously, in the wrong direction.

Twenty minutes, five wrong turns, and several stops for directions later, they made it to the main office. "Told you it was the other way." Sango aimed a death glare at the offensive commentator.

Smiling at the receptionist, "Hello, I'm Sango Taijiya, the new gym teacher." She grabbed the boy's arm and pulled him beside her, "This is my brother Kohaku Taijiya. He just enrolled here."

The secretary turned to her computer, uninterested. She printed out their schedules and handed them over. Eyeing Kohaku, she remarked snidely, "He'll be required to wear the standard uniform. We don't allow students to wear leisure clothes here."

With a tight smile, Sango replied, "That's perfectly understood. We just moved here and haven't had the time to fit him for one."

What a rude woman! Kohaku had every right to be here, and no one better suggest otherwise. "Come along dear brother. We have so much to do today." She spun on her heel and stomped into the hallway with an embarrassed teenager trailing after her. Things just got a lot more interesting at Kyouka Academy.

Sorry, I know it's short!!!! I promise to make longer chapters in the future! It will get better.
