InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Memories Last Forever ❯ Sukai's Older Brothers ( Chapter 3 )
Chapter ThreeSukai's older brothers.
I woke suddenly, covered with cold sweat and trembling. I glanced over at Inuyasha, he was sound asleep, and so was everyone else.
`Why is it bothering me now..'
Once again I fought back tears.
`Why are memories of them bothering me now..My brothers were so loving when I was little. Even when we were sparring, I would feel a sense of joy, each of their hits was filled with brotherly affection for their younger sister. It dulled the occasional pain and filled me with bliss, even when things got bad. The last time I fought them..they were so full of anger and hatred for me. Like I was some little bug..but they still seemed loving. The two nearly opposite emotions and the intense grief from the loss of my mother were what made me lose myself. Hinoko, Sinobaru, Nakisumi..I hate them for all that they've done, yet I love them with all my heart… why..'
I bowed my head and cried, for the first time in years, I really cried. I didn't notice the extra presence around me. Perhaps it was the cause of my bad dreams. Perhaps he was the one who unsettled me and filled me with painful memories. I wasn't to know though.
Hinoko smiled, looking down at his beloved, long-lost little sister. A devious smirk set on his face, he loved the fact that his aura had upset her so much and brought her to tears.
He silently whispered, "Soon, little sister, we will be together again. Soon, you'll understand why we didn't kill you back then…and you'll know that we do hate and love you tremendously. Soon" Hinoko smiled and leapt away without a sound. Not even Inuyasha knew he was ever there. The wind seemed to carry Hinoko's breathe and I swear I could've felt his words. The feeling was ice cold; and I loathed it completely.
`He couldn't be here…'
I glanced around me, nothing unusual. I then attempted to go back to sleep, but it was no use. Sleep left me entirely. I sat up and leaned against a nearby tree. After a few hours I drifted off into a light doze.
I woke up noticing that everyone was gone except Inuyasha. He peered at me, apparently noticing that something was wrong. Then he came over to me and grasped my chin lightly, staring into my eyes.
`I hate that look..'
"Are you alright?" he asked, softening his gaze and filling it with concern. "You're trembling, if you haven't noticed." I slapped his hand away and got up. Immediately after standing though, my legs gave way and I fell. I was trembling violently, the night's dreams filling my head and making it impossible to do anything. Inuyasha picked me up and set me next to the fire.
"I.." I looked away, "I'm fine, just a little cold.." My eyes were brimming with tears again. I changed the subject, "Where's everyone?"
"They went to the village to get some leads.. Sango thought it'd be better if we didn't go, seeing as how we don't fit in and you looked awful, so no one wanted to wake you. Now stop changing the subject and tell me what's wrong." He glared down at me with his arms folded.
"Nothing's wrong, really. I just had a bad dream, that's al-"
Inuyasha interrupted me, "That's not all, you've been acting weird ever since you came back from the hot springs last night!" I let the tears fall and looked at Inuyasha.
"Please…let it go. I really don't want to talk about this.." I stood up, still staring into his eyes, still letting tears fall freely from my own.
"..err." Inuyasha was surprised to see me acting like this. He stood speechless.
"Please, Inuyasha, let it go for now. I'll tell you when I can." Just then the others came back. Miroku had a red handprint on his cheek and Sango looked very annoyed. Miroku noticed my tears.
"What's wrong?" he asked, walking over to me and grasping my hands lightly in his own. He ,too, was concerned.
"Your skin feels so hot.." Miroku placed a hand to my forehead, "You have a fever." I started trembling again. Then I passed out. I woke a while later on Inuyasha's back. I looked around.
`They decided to start moving again… but where are we going…no..we're going there..'
I pushed myself away from Inuyasha and fell. Everyone stopped and looked at me, concerned and surprised.
`We can't go there..'
"Inu..Inuyasha, where are we going?" I looked at him, dreading his answer.
"We're going to give Lord Hisuma a visit." Inuyasha replied, glaring at me stubbornly. I stared at him, horror struck.
"No.." I looked down, trying to hide my feelings. "We shouldn't go there…"
"Why?" Inuyasha asked. "do you know this person or something, hm?" Tears fell yet again.
"Yes.. and he's no person. He's a demon..and. he is.. my father.." I got up and dusted myself off, averting my eyes from Inuyasha.
"He.. could easily be worse than Naraku, but he tends to keep to his kingdom. One village in particular. The one you plan on visiting.."
I glanced south. "My older brothers are there too. You met the youngest of the three. He and I shared the same mother, the rest are pure demons. Half brothers. I believe you have one of those yourself, Inuyasha." I looked at him, after finally managing to seep all emotions from my face. He just stood there, lost in his thoughts.
"But.. if you insist on going there.. know that it wont be easy, and there will be consequences." After a moment, we moved on. Everyone swallowed up by his or her own thoughts. They were all wondering how anyone could be worse than Naraku, but I knew..

After a while, we reached a village and decided to stay there for the night. A village elder led us to a hut we could rest in. As soon as everyone sat down, I started begging him or her not to go to my village.
"Do you really want to put all of you in danger?" I glanced around at everyone disconsolately.
"I can almost guarantee that someone will be dead before you leave. Please, I beg of you, reconsider… my fath- Lord Hisuma.. is a very dangerous demon, let him keep the shards for now. Please.." Inuyasha threw a potato at me, successfully shutting me up.
"No, we're going there. If you're so scared, you can just stay here." Inuyasha spat, glaring at me. I growled at him then stomped outside, mumbling the whole way.
Once outside, I punched a hole in a nearby tree, which, unfortunately, got me attention. A young boy came up to me brandishing a wooden sword at me ostentatiously.
"Back off. Monster! I'll get you!" He smiled and laughed playfully. I smirked and ruffled his hair. I crouched down next to him and peeked around.
"Aie, young human.. but will you get the others? They're much worse and more dangerous." I whispered in a mockingly cold voice. He gulped and looked at me for a moment before going back to play with his friends.
`I used to play like that… but by the time I was his age.. things had changed so much…'
Just then a woman in a nearby hut shrieked and out flew a man, or perhaps demon, with the young woman safely tucked under his arm. He looked at me and smiled with razor-sharp fangs. A nearly completely forgotten voice entered my head…
`We don't hurt the villagers, but striking fear into their hearts every once in a while keeps them obedient. You'll learn that soon enough. They especially freak out when one of the women are taken, though we always put them back so as not to rouse a rebellion…'The voice went on and on lecturing a long forgotten, somewhat tradition, of the family; the voice of my mentor and eldest brother, Sinobaru.
`It is him….why do they keep coming.. why cant they just leave me alone..'
His voice went on and on in my head, becoming more vicious and real. I collapsed onto my knees, holding my head in my hands. I gasped and choked, somehow unable to breathe, as if he were smuggling me with his words. My heart began to pound loudly in my ears.
`My..head is going to explode..'
Sinobaru abruptly stopped when he noticed me. He cursed quietly and dropped the shrieking woman he was holding. He growled lowly and stared at me.
"Why on earth didn't I notice her? She's my damn sister for crying out loud. Well, my presence obviously does affect her, as father said it would; but no one's supposed to bother her quite yet, dammit." Sinobaru mumbled under his breath.
Inuyasha and Co. noticed the first shriek and were currently staring at Sinobaru and me, wondering what they should do. Sinobaru walked over to me and knelt down in front of me. My mind was currently in turmoil and I didn't notice at all when he grasped my shoulders and shook me lightly.
He whispered into my ear softly, "Let it go, lil sis. Don't think about that or it'll drive you crazy. We can't have that yet. Think of something else, relax." His words hit me like bucket of ice water.
`How can he say such things.. like he cares…grr.. that monster!'
I swiped at him, sending him into a nearby tree with a few nice deep claw marks on his face. My eyes were currently pulsing red. I calmed down and glared down at him.
"Don't..ever talk to me like that, like you care. You don't…" I looked away. His existence currently the most disgusting thing I had ever known; I couldn't bear to look at him.
Sinobaru stood and felt the deep gouges in his cheek. He chuckled.
"I did deserve that, and a lot more. Let's not fight yet, dear younger sibling. That'll come soon enough. We weren't supposed to meet today. My apologies." He bowed and disappeared.

Sinobaru reappeared in his room at the castle. He collapsed into a chair, rubbing his temple.
"Damn that was close. She's so sensitive, it's ridiculous." He glanced out of a window.
"Or perhaps you are not perceptive enough." Sinobaru jumped when he heard his father's deep voice. "You could've done a lot of damage, you know. It'd be better for everyone if you'd just stay here till we have Mitsukai where we want her."
Sinobaru nodded, "Yes, I didn't know she was there. Her scent is much different now. She's quite a beauty too. Her power was incredible and there's so much anger simmering inside her. I cant wait for her to get here…"

I glanced over at Inuyasha and the group disdainfully for a moment before staggering into the woods.
`That was him..why though.. why must they torture me..and he had the nerve to touch me!'
I shuddered. Running water could be heard and I noticed a stream and stopped, crouching beside it. I splashed my face with the cool, fresh water; letting it cleanse me of my terrifying thoughts.
`They're planning something, I know it. My dreams must mean something… damn Inuyasha, he doesn't understand. This could be the death of us all..'
