Dear Diary: Prologue
“HELP!” I immediately sat up in my bed, startled by the sudden, frantic yell. “Kagome, HELP!” I quickly slipped my feet into my fuzzy blue slippers and got out of my warm bed. “HELP, KAGOME!” I quickly moved towards the urgent screams through the dark, feeling my way around every corner and bump. I have now memorized every inch of this house inside - out. Finally, after the second turn, I reached the bedroom where the frantic yells and screams were coming from. I took a deep breath, prepared myself for anything and reluctantly opened the creaking door. “Kagome…y-y-you're f-f-finally h-here!”
“Oh, it's okay…it's okay…” I whispered as I quickly walked over to her bedside, patting her soft head gently. “What's wrong, Kikyo-chan?” I asked her with a smile.
“Oh, Kagome-chan! It was horrible! Th-that CRAZY man was in here! A-and he said that I was his and that I could never escape!” I sighed and sat down beside her, gently putting my arms around her and nodded. “Kagome-chan,” I looked at Kikyo, wondering what she wanted to say. “Guess what I did though?” Before I could reply, she continued on. “ I screamed as loud as I could for you…that man always leaves when you come!” She beamed at me and looked at me with sweet adoration. I smiled down at her and hugged her again.
“Dear sister,” I began, “I've told you this before, that terrible man is dead. You don't need to worry about him any more, okay? Just try to forget about him, then maybe he'll stop haunting all of your dreams.” Suddenly Kikyo pushed me away and pouted. “What's wrong, Kikyo-chan?”
“You always say that, sister!” I was shocked. I mean, what else did she expect me to say? Should I have told her the truth? No…not with her in this condition….never. “Kagome says this every time when Kikyo gets scared…but Kikyo knows better. Kikyo knows that the crazy man is still alive.” I was speechless. Even now, with her mind like this, she can still figure out what's really happening.
“Kikyo, I'm sure that you're dreams are just a bit too realistic. He's dead, okay? Don't worry anymore. I'm here, remember?” I got up and tucked her in, making sure that she was warm and snug. “Anything else that you want me to do for you?” I asked. I studied Kikyo's face as she thought, her delicately arched eyebrows furrowed down while she chewed on her bottom lip. Then, slowly, she nodded. “Well, what is it?”
“Sing me a song! Please?! A song that mother used to sing to us.” A song that mother used to sing? Okaasan sang a lot of songs…how am I suppose to know which one? Then I thought of my favourite one…Shinjistu no Uta. (A/N: Song of Truth.)
The crimson - stained sun
Has illuminated everything; now and the past
Is what I have imagined within this twilight
More than my own hands can accomplish?
Please teach me how to live
A little more vulnerably than than I do now
Won't you taint me just a little?
That way, even if I get hurt
And lose everything around me
This song of truth will flow through my heart
This dispute will probably go on
About that which is most precious
I've become a rebel, I've over-looked things
Even the gentle smiles of strangers
If eternity knows what manner of darkness
And when pain will vanish,
Then that way, you shall taint me
I always looked to yesterday, to the castles in the sky
When will I be able to follow them?
This song of truth shall be my guide
If eternity knows what manner of darkness
And when pain will vanish,
This song of truth will flow through my heart
Now, please, taint me just a little
Please, just taint me, only a little
This song of truth shall be my guide
As my voice trailed off at the end of the song, I looked down at the peaceful, innocent sleeping face of my older twin.
I stood up, making the queen-sized bed creak ever so softly, and then gently kissed Kikyo on the forehead. “Sleep well, enjeru.” As I closed the door on my way out, I suddenly began to cry. Why, oh why, does sweet Kikyo have to suffer like this? As solitary tear rolled down my cheek and fell to the wooden floor, I began walking back to my bedroom - hoping to get some sleep.
I quickly climbed into my sheets, and was surprised that they were still warm. I closed my eyes and started to fall into a deep pool of darkness…
************DREAM************
“Kikyo!” I yelled into the dark room. “KIKYO!!!” The only answer was the deep, hallow echo. Then I realized something horrifying…I'M ALONE. Alone in this dark place…so cold, so scared.
Suddenly, someone behind me laughed - a cold and emotionless laugh. I spun around, eyes alert and my body ready to run if nessacary. Nothinng was behind me…just the empty blackness that surounded me. “Who's there?!” I called, my voice shaky and scared.
“Kaaaaaaagooooomeeeeeeeeee……! KaaaaaaagoooooooooMEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!” When I heard `someone' whisper my name like that…I nearly jumped out my skin.
“L-l-leave my alone!” I shouted, my eyes tightly closed. “LEAVE ME ALONE!” Then, something cold and rough grabbed my hand and pulled me into a hole - a huge dark purple hole that engulfed my whole body…
***********END OF DREAM************
I sat up in my bed, beads of sweat covering my entire body and my breath ragged. When I finally calmed down and my breathing returned back to normal, one thought suddenly popped into my head: Time to visit the past, Kagome.
