InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Men in White Coats ❯ The rest of the day...and an unusual occurance ( Chapter 2 )

The rest of the day's journey was uneventful, Kagome was now once again riding with Inuyasha, and unlike Inuyasha's earlier pessimistic prediction they had almost made it to Kaede's village a few hours before sunset, and were currently walking through cool green shade of Inuyasha's forest.
“Um, Inuyasha? Would you mind if I quickly visited my house for a few hours since we made such good time? It's just that I have an English exam coming up in a few weeks and I really need to study.” Kagome asked pleadingly.
Typical, as soon as we even come near the place she wants to rush off back home…well if she thinks I'll let her, she's got another thing coming…but then I don't want to make it look like I care…”Fine bitch, you can do what you like, it's not like I care about where you go, as long as you're back in time to hunt for the shards.” He answered cockily. “But you had better be back before sunset or I'll come over there and drag you back by the hair.” Satisfied that he had gotten his somewhat mangled point across, Inuyasha set Kagome down in front of the well and began walking in the direction of the village. Leaving a somewhat stunned Kagome and an amused Sango and Miroku watching him stomp away.
“Well Kagome, I am sure that this English that you need to study must be important, and so we shall not keep you, especially as Inuyasha has allowed you only a short amount of time, time which we do not wish to waste.” Miroku spoke respectfully, before bowing and walking off in the same direction as Inuyasha.
“Yeah, we'll see you later.” Sango said with a laugh at the monk's formalities, before following him, leaving Kagome standing alone next to the well.
Well no point wasting what little time Inuyasha has given me. Why can't he understand that without English most universities will barely look at your application? I wish he understood more about my time. Kagome thought with a sigh as she jumped into the well, through the swirling purple lights which confirmed the time travelling process.
Sitting under the shade of the very tree to which Inuyasha was bound to by Kikyou; Shippo sat playing with the leaves at his feet and as deep in thought as a child can be. Shippo had been waiting at the village for three days now and he was sick of it. Why am I the one left here? I am a youkai; I can take care of myself! He thought with the stubborn bravery of a child. They never trust me to do anything; they always think that I can't because I am too little. Huh. It's not fair!
Just as he finished this thought his youkai enhanced nose caught a familiar scent on the wind. Kagome! Inuyasha! They're finally back. Jumping up with childish glee and running as fast as he could in the direction of the scent
It wasn't that Shippo disliked Kaede or even the villagers, they were kind to him and gave him sweets and toys, but they always did so from a distance, and they always smelled of fear. The other children sometimes played with him, but only where their parents couldn't see, and after their parents found out, they weren't allowed near him again. It made life in the village very lonely. But when he was with Kagome and the others, even Inuyasha he never smelled fear from him on them, yes with Kagome, he had love, affection, friendship, but most importantly he didn't feel excluded - at least he didn't when they took him with them instead of leaving him alone.
As he crested the hill he was running he caught sight of the smell he had been following, making out Inuyasha, Miroku, Sango, and….where's Kagome? Rushing even faster down the slope and finally meeting Inuyasha, Shippo jumped on the hanyou shouting, “What have you done now you idiot, I leave you alone with Kagome for three days and she is gone! Did you piss her off again you stupid fool? What have you done to her now?!” he continued to shout as he attempted to punch Inuyasha earning himself a slamming to the ground and a rather large bump on his head. “I didn't do anything; I even let her go to her home, she asked and I let her go you stupid runt!” Inuyasha shouted back.
By which time Sango and Miroku had arrived on the scene. “Actually, what Inuyasha says is true. Kagome said that she wanted to return to her country to study `English'; and Inuyasha allowed her to, on the provision that she return before sunset.” Miroku stated simply, trying to cover his amusement with facts.
“See.” Inuyasha retorted to the little youkai whose face was currently being ground into the dust. “I let her go home. And if she's late I am gonna haul her arse back here!”
“Oh alright then,” replied the now once again happy Shippo. “Maybe she will bring me extra sweets from her time, or even some more crayons.” He added gleefully before running off in the direction of the village to tell Kaede of the group's return as well as gloating to the other children about the new crayons he might receive.
When they finally arrived at Kaede's hut she had already made them a hearty stew of some sort and was stirring it as it bubbled over the fire. “Welcome back. Was your journey successful?” she asked pleasantly. To which Inuyasha abruptly sat cross legged on the floor of her hut with a “Keh”.
“Actually Kaede-sama, although we were successful in defeating the youkai plaguing the village by the river, it possessed no shikon shard, and so Inuyasha considers it a waste of time.” Sango explained.
“But where is Kagome? Has she left for her time so soon?” Kaede asked. “Has she had another fight with Inuyasha, what has he done now?” she added with concern, turning her one eyed gaze on Inuyasha; earning a low growl from Inuyasha and a look of amusement and glee from the monk.
Kagome said that she wished to return home in order to study `English' and she and Inuyasha left on relatively good terms.” replied Sango, breaking both the growl from Inuyasha and the barely controlled mirth from Miroku.
That's right I let her go home, she asked and I said yes…why does everyone seem to find that so hard to believe? Inuyasha thought angrily, it's not like I am unreasonable, she has a job to do, and she shouldn't be always buggering off to that `world' of hers whenever this one gets too tough for her. Yes, she can't just leave when she's had enough of this time, enough of m…not liking where his wandering thoughts had lead him Inuyasha suddenly jumped to his feet, startling the others; and looking out the window at the sky announced, “If that's how it is then she can damn well come home right now.” before storming out of the hut, leaving a very confused Miroku, Sango and Kaede to eat their stew and ponder his outburst.
Am I really that repulsive? Thought Inuyasha as he stormed off towards the well, now that his initial outburst of anger had subsided he was left with questions and insecurities. Can she only stand to be around me when she has to? Running back to her time, to take a break from the `disgusting hanyou' she is forced to travel with in the sengoku jidai, on a quest she was forced to do, when she would rather be off doing other more `important' things, like her tests…nearing the well, Inuyasha now felt apprehensive, it was still light and he had told Kagome that she could stay in her time until sunset. So he sat himself down on the grass, with his back against the well's side.
Of course, why would I even think that she might like travelling with me? Who would, all I seem to be capable of is putting her in danger and then running around like an idiot to try and save her from the mess I made in the first place. Her time is safe; no wonder she prefers to be there, no quests, no youkai, and no killings. She is lucky to be able to live in a time such as hers; it is selfish for me to keep dragging her back…
As Inuyasha sat trying to organise and make sense of his thoughts and feelings toward Inuyasha he noticed the slightly uncomfortable tingling in his nose he always got when the well was active, only it was much stronger than usual and made him sneeze.
“Inuyasha…Is that you up there? Can you help me with this, these books are heavy.” echoed Kagome's voice from the bottom of the well.
But then she does always come back… this thought calming his doubts, he jumped into the well in an effort to help Kagome with her backpack, but ended up setting the time travel magic off again carrying them both (and an unwitting tagalong) back to Kagome's time.
Sitting watching Inuyasha's deep ponderings was Shippo, who was patiently - well as patiently as a small child can - awaiting Kagome's return. What is Inuyasha doing? If I could go through the well I would always stay with Kagome when she was in her time, she has so many cool things there…chocolates, toys, crayons…Just as Inuyasha's thoughts had been interrupted by the tingling sensation in his nose, so too were Shippo's. Knowing that this meant Kagome was now back Shippo crept quickly and silently from his hiding place amongst the bushes and prepared to jump down the well to give his Kagome a hug he dove head first down the well, just as Inuyasha jumped into the well, setting off the time travelling magic.
Shippo's vision was clouded with unfamiliar flashing and swirling purple lights and his nose was tingling to a point that was almost painful, and finally when it stopped he landed head first on the ground in a darkened corner of the well; where he lay, unconscious.
Looking with slight annoyance at Inuyasha for bringing them both back to her time, she playfully swatted his head and said, “Well since we are both here I spose you had better take me up on the offer of having dinner at my house I was coming over to offer you.” Reassured by her actions that she was not disgusted by him, or else was a very good actor Inuyasha sheepishly accepted her offer, and they both climbed out of the well, unaware of their small friend lying unconscious in the corner.
