InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Misky Dreams ❯ Kagome's Testing Dream ( Chapter 5 )

Kagome walked through Kaede's empty hut; she folded her arms over her chest as she looked around. The older miko had died two years after Kagome went home. It saddened Kagome to hear of how she died, Sango had told her that she was constantly full of pain all the time and no herbs or medicine could stop her pain. From the other things Sango had spoke of it sounded to Kagome that she had a problem with her appendices.

`It could have easily been cured if I were here to take her back through the well.' Kagome thought as a tear rolled down her cheek. `I could have saved her. . .she would probably be alive right now if I had stayed with them.'

She sighed and sat down on the floor and started to poke through a box that was left in the hut after Kaede died. The miko's eye patch was in there, along with some old herbs and spices. A small white envelope was at the bottom with `For Kagome' written on it.

Kagome's heart nearly stopped as she picked up the envelope and opened it. She took out a letter and started to read it silently to herself:

`Dearest Kagome. Child I leave to you all of my prized possessions, from my hut to all its contents, to the title of Priestess of this village, right down to my eye patch. I am writing this with Sango and Miroku telling me that you may never return, but I beg to differ my dear. Because you are reading this right now are you not? Now I have to ask ye a favor. If thou are reading this letter, ye must think before going back, now that you are the miko of the village you have responsibility. . .remember that. Kaede.'

Kagome quickly stood up. "SANGO!" she yelled as she ran out of the hut.

"Why didn't you tell me she left me as the miko of the village?!" Kagome yelled at Miroku and Sango. "I mean. . .WHY?! Don't you think this was valuable information?"

"Kagome I'm sorry. . ." Sango said. "But we thought we should've waited until you've gotten use to being back here."

Kagome grinned in annoyance and disbelief. "I don't believe this. I just CAN'T believe this."

"Kagome we are really sorry." Miroku said. "You have to understand why we never told you."

"I do. . .but I still can't believe how you thought this little piece of information could wait. Because you do realize that when my mom's funeral is over tonight I'm going back to New York." Kagome said. "And you wouldn't have gotten a chance to tell me."

"Well what are you planning on doing now, Kagome?" Miroku asked. "Now that you know?"

"I'm not sure anymore."

Her life had just gotten a whole lot worse. `Can I just go back and leave the village? I am the miko of this place now. . .so is it right for me to just leave them?' she looked at her ring. "But I have a life now. . .they the village is doing just fine. . ."

She sat down under the god tree and closed her eyes. She would go to sleep then get ready to go to her mom's funeral.

As sleep took over her, Kagome traced her finger over the Shikon no Tama. `I want to know what to do. . .' she thought. She closed her eyes and drifted off to sleep. The Shikon no Tama started to glow, it was going to help her the best way it could.

~~KAGOME'S DREAM~~

"Hello. . .hello. . .?" Kagome looked around in the darkness. "Sango? Miroku? Inuyasha?" her eyes widened at the sudden thought that she was alone. "Anyone?"

"Lost again. . ." Inuyasha said to her as he walked out of the shadows.

"Inuyasha? Where re we?" Kagome asked him.

"That's not important." Inuyasha said to her. "You know you were a little shady when I asked you did you love Hojo."

"What?" Kagome shot at him. "Inuyasha what the hell? We are in the middle of. . . nowhere, and you are still freaking out at me about that?!"

"So you are still not going to answer me." Inuyasha smirked. "I guess I'll just have to tell you a little story. . ." he changed into his youkai form and grabbed Kagome's shoulders. He then shoved her up against a tree. Kagome's eyes opened in surprise, where did that tree come from?

"Inuyasha! Stop!" she cried.

"Shut up, wench. Now you're going to listen to me." Youkai Inuyasha hissed at her, his red eyes staring into hers. "I want you to see something, you are making a mistake if you are going to marry Hojo. Like an example? Take your mother for instance. She thought she loved your father. But what she really wanted was not to die alone. Then you were born. . .and then Sota. And what did your daddy do, Kagome? He left your mother! After being there for her for so long he couldn't take having kids so he left. It devastated your mother, she thought that she couldn't go on. . .ever think why your grandpa came to live with you?"

"Shut up!" Kagome screamed.

"No. . .your going to listen to me." Youkai Inuyasha dug his claws into Kagome shoulders.

"Sit!" Kagome screamed in pain.

"Oh that's not going to work here." Youkai Inuyasha smirked. "Now. . .you see, your mom never saw it coming, because your old man was always there, so it came as a big surprise for her. But you see, you got it a little easier. Hojo never spent anytime with you from the start. So when you pop out his kids and he decides that this celebrity marriage is over, you won't take it so hard because it'll be just like it always had been. . .you and your kids alone."

Tears streamed down Kagome face. "Stop it! How do you know all this?!"

"This is your dream my dear. . .I'm only telling you what you already know. . .so now its your call. End up like your mother. . .or do what you really want." Inuyasha drifted back into the darkness, and Kagome found herself waking up.
