A/N: Merry Christmas everyone! This is my first attempt at making a Christmas fic‚ and I figured this would be the perfect time to do it!

Note: Anything that may have occured in the Inuyasha movies‚ have not happened in this story‚ so Inuyasha and Kagome have never shared a kiss‚ but they have had their “almost kiss” when Souta had interrupted them.

This fiction takes place shortly after that “almost kiss”‚ I’m gonna say‚ about a month or so has passed since then.

Which also means‚ Kikyo is dead by this point in the story.

Kagome and Inuyasha met about eight months ago‚ so there is no dramatic change in any of the character’s ages‚ but by this point‚ they both love each other‚ yet haven’t actually said the words out loud to one another.

Now that that is taken care of‚ I hope y’all enjoy!

Mistletoe

“No.”

“Inuyasha...”

The hanyou stubbornly stuffed his hands within the sleeves of his suikan. “I said‚ no‚ wench!”

Kagome and Inuyasha were standing not too far from the Bone-Eaters Well‚ the rest of the inutachi off to the side shaking their heads at the argument that had been taking place for the past few minutes.

All Kagome had requested was just a few days in her time. Christmas was tomorrow‚ and she would really like to spend some time with her family. It’s nearing on evening at the moment‚ so if she went home now‚ she would be able to enjoy a nice hot meal‚ a bath‚ and then a night in her comfortable modern bed.

She understood that she had a mission to complete in the Sengoku Jidai. It was technically her fault that the Shikon no Tama had shattered to begin with. But she had already missed her fifteenth birthday when she was so rudely pulled down the time portal by Mistress Centipede‚ then had to deal with a surly hanyou with cute dog ears trying to kill her for no apparent reason. And once she finally did get to go back home‚ the baka had practically dragged her back to the past.

It’s not that she regretted having been forced into a world with unknown entities lurking around every corner‚ though. She did wish that innocent people didn’t have to die for her to have met Inuyasha‚ but she was still beyond grateful to have met him and fallen in love with him.

Even if he was a baka.

She not only missed her birthday about eight months ago‚ but she then missed every holiday there after; Halloween and Thanksgiving being the main two she would have enjoyed to take part in. 

Now that Naraku was in hiding once again‚ and there haven’t been any leads on his whereabouts‚ there really wasn’t a reason to prevent her from going back for a few days‚ especially since they were already at Kaede’s village. She really was only asking to sleep in her own bed tonight after she saw her family for the remainder of Christmas Eve‚ and all of Christmas Day‚ and then come back through the well the following morning.

Was that really so much to ask for?

Apparently it was…

Kagome sighed as she glared up at the infuriatingly attractive hanyou as tears of both anger and anguish stung behind her eyelids. Inuyasha’s own eyes widened in alarm‚ obviously scenting the change within her‚ causing him to unconsciously take a step back.

Kagome sniffed‚ but refused to allow her tears to fall. Not for Inuyasha. Not right now. “You know‚ you’re a real jerk‚ Inuyasha.” Kagome turned around to face the well as she hefted her big yellow bag over her shoulder and began to walk towards the time portal anyway; with or without his permission.

Inuyasha’s ear twitched as he watched her defy him – again. The hanyou growled and launched himself into the air‚ twisted around mid-air to face her again‚ then landed just in front of her‚ effectively blocking her escape route‚ and her only way home.

And away from him…

…not that he would ever admit that part out loud.

“Oi! I ain’t said ya could leave‚ damn it!”

Kagome glared up at him as if she was wishing she could turn him to dust right then and there. He gulped. “You aren’t the boss of me‚ Inuyasha! I’m. Going. Home!"

She stomped past him‚ but his hand darted out to grab her wrist. Kagome’s eye twitched in her irritation as she counted to five in her head before even daring to look back up at him.

Don’t osuwari him. Don’t osuwari him… she spoke those three words over and over again within her mind. She had been doing well not to give in to her anger and subdue him whenever he upset her.

Which was way more often than they both cared to admit.

“Keh. If ya ain’t gonna listen‚ then I’m comin’ with ya‚” he said after a few seconds of her silently glaring at the ground between them.

Her eyes darted back up to his just before he seemed to notice the implications of what he had said‚ and then he averted his gaze‚ a small blush dusting his cheeks. He pulled his hand away from her wrist‚ and put it back within the sleeves of his suikan as he stubbornly refused to say anything else on the matter.

Kagome’s heart was beating out of her chest as she stared at him. Gah! What are you thinking‚ Kagome? It’s not like he understands the meaning of the holiday…

Sure‚ Christmas was mostly celebrated by couples in love‚ but that didn’t stop her from wanting to go see her family‚ even if she did have to be apart from her love.

Unrequited as it may be, she still loved him and would have loved to spend such a romantic holiday with him.

But he didn’t know that Christmas was about love and sharing such love with their partners.

Before allowing such a thought to manifest within her mind for too much longer‚ lest she started thinking about other things that she wished to share with the hanyou still standing awkwardly in front her‚ she was about to speak‚ but he decided the silence had dragged on long enough‚ and beat her to it.

“Keh. Nevermind. Just go to your stupid ‘Krismis’ or whatever.” He glanced at her before looking away once more. As he turned to leave‚ he said‚ “Just don’t fucking be late‚ wench‚ or I’ll—”

He was cut off by Kagome's hand on his upper arm‚ a more feather like touch than the way he had grabbed her just a moment ago. He turned and cocked his head to the side‚ Kagome mentally chuckling about how he looked like a curious puppy in that moment‚ and then she spoke‚ “You know… you can come if you want‚ Inuyasha.” She blushed slightly‚ but continued‚ “I-I would enjoy having you there for Christmas.”

His mouth opened and closed a few times before just nodding once in determination‚ grabbing her arm and beginning to march her toward the well. “Well‚ then come on‚ wench. It’s gettin’ late.”

Kagome chuckled as she began walking beside the hanyou‚ who she recognized as hiding his obvious embarrassment‚ causing her to smile fondly to herself. She turned to wave her goodbyes to her friends‚ having already said her true goodbyes earlier with the promise of bringing back some modern day goodies in a few days. Sango‚ Miroku and Shippo waved back‚ all with knowing grins‚ while Kirara mewed from her place upon Sango’s shoulder.

Once they made it to the modern world‚ Inuyasha jumped the both of them out of the well and then Kagome led him to the front door of her house. He had wanted to just jump up into her bedroom window like he normally would‚ but Kagome said she wanted to see her mother to let her know she was home for Christmas. He grumbled‚ but otherwise didn’t say a word as they went through the front door.

Kagome yelled out happily‚ “Mama! I’m home!” as Inuyasha closed the door behind them and followed Kagome into the kitchen where her mother was currently making dinner.

Mrs. Higurashi turned around with a wide smile on her face before rushing forward and pulling her daughter into a hug. “Kagome‚ dear‚ it’s been a few weeks. I’m so glad you were able to make it home for Christmas.” When the older woman pulled away from her daughter’s embrace‚ she turned to the hanyou and surprised him with a warm embrace as well. “And it’s so nice of you to join us‚ Inuyasha.”

Inuyasha’s cheeks turned a pretty bright pink‚ his arms at his sides and his ears perked forward‚ unsure exactly what to do or say. One glance at the Miko‚ had his blush increasing‚ the amusement twinkling in her brown eyes easily recognized.

“K-Keh…‚” he mumbled as Kagome’s mother finally pulled away.

Mrs. Higurashi ignored the flustered boy as she clapped her hands together happily and spoke to the both of them. “Well‚ dinner will be ready in about an hour.” She turned to Kagome and asked‚ “Would you like me to draw you a bath‚ dear?”

Kagome’s face lit up at the prospect of finally having a nice modern bath‚ the look on her face melting the hanyou’s heart just a bit more.

Damn it‚ quit thinkin’ like that‚ idiot. She ain’t s’posed to be more than a friend…

Inuyasha shook his head of his wandering thoughts‚ his normal gruff exterior making the women none  the wiser to his inner dialogue.

The next thing his twitching ears picked up were Kagome’s happy squeals in response to her mother telling her that she was making Oden for dinner tonight. She had decided to make her daughter’s favorite dish‚ hoping that she would be able to make it for the holidays. Inuyasha shook his head in amusement; Kagome was as crazy about Oden as he was about Ramen.

Keh‚ maybe not that much‚ he joked to himself.

Once Kagome was finished with her very relaxing and much needed bath‚ and fully dressed in her light blue silk pajamas‚ she went downstairs to sit at the dinner table just as everything was being served. She sat next to Inuyasha and smiled as she listened to her little brother speak to the hanyou at an incredible speed‚ talking to him about anything and everything a ten year old boy might think was interesting. Her grandfather was sitting in his normal seat at the head of the table‚ an ofuda held suspiciously in his left hand‚ his chopsticks in his right hand‚ his eyes narrowed towards the dog-eared boy. Mama Higurashi was sitting directly across from Kagome‚ a large smile on her face as she began on her meal.

Kagome glared towards her grandfather until he put the ofuda back into his pocket‚ mumbling about young people those days‚ then she smiled at her mom and picked up her own utensils to eat her favorite meal as well.

Dinner was pretty normal; Inuyasha didn’t argue about being there or anything else‚ just grunting in response to whatever Souta had to say. He did admit‚ at least to himself‚ that Kagome’s favorite food wasn’t that bad‚ even though it was no where near as good as ramen.

After dinner‚ Kagome helped her mother with the dishes while Inuyasha followed Souta and Grampa Higurashi to the living room to watch the ‘moving picture box’. When Kagome was finished with her chores‚ she went into the living room and had to cover her mouth to keep from laughing out loud. Inuyasha was standing about a foot in front of the fake Christmas tree‚ his ears pinned backwards‚ and his nose twitching at a mile a second‚ trying to figure out what all of the decorations were. Souta was laughing while sitting on the floor‚ and Jii-chan rolled his eyes‚ shook his head‚ and continued to watch the television.

Kagome’s laughter turned into a panicked gasp as she watched the hanyou growl and unsheath his Tetsusaiga. She quickly closed the distance between them and grabbed his right wrist to keep him from slicing down another part of the house. She still hadn’t forgotten the time he blew up the kitchen because of a bug.

“Inuyasha! Do not use that here!” she yelled as soon as she grabbed his wrist.

Inuyasha glared down at her‚ “It smells funny.”

Kagome rolled her eyes and sighed. “It’s plastic‚ baka. It’s not real. Just for decoration.”

Inuyasha’s ears twitched and he sniffed once more. He seemed to take that explanation seriously‚ though‚ because he pulled his wrist from her hand and then resheathed his sword. He stuffed his hands within the sleeves of his suikan and ignored the now giggling Kagome to continue sniffing around the tree.

He paused when a woodsy and fruity scent hit his canine nose. It was definitely inviting‚ so he kept sniffing until he was looking up‚ where he saw a weird looking plant just above he and Kagome’s heads. He cocked his head to the side and took a second to study the plant. It was just a bunch of green leaves with some weird looking white berries.

It only took him the span of about three seconds to sniff out and analyze the weird looking plant‚ so Kagome was still holding in her giggles. Her giggles quickly faded‚ however‚ when Inuyasha looked back down at her and asked‚ “What’s that?” as he pointed up above them.

Kagome looked up‚ her eyes widening‚ and her face blossoming into the reddest of reds Inuyasha had probably ever seen on her. She quickly stammered out‚ “N-Nothing!” as she grabbed his hand to try and pull him away‚ but his hanyou body wouldn’t let her‚ since he now knew she was hiding something.

Kagome was about to distract him with the prospect of ramen when the annoying little pest of a little brother decided to take that second to speak up‚ “It’s Mistletoe! You’re supposed to kiss her!” he exclaimed happily‚ a hint of a chuckle in his voice.

Kagome and Inuyasha both froze‚ matching blushes flushing their entire bodies as Kagome slowly moved her hand from his and chanced a glance up at him. She shook her head and opened her mouth to speak‚ but the brother that she silently vowed to murder later‚ spoke up once more.

“You know it’s bad luck if you don’t‚ sis‚” the little menace said‚ a grin on his stupid little face.

Kagome turned with a hard glare at her brother‚ trying to think of a way out of this. This was definitely not how she envisioned her first kiss to go. With Inuyasha? Yes. With Inuyasha while under the mistletoe and in front of her family? Hell no!

Without anything to say‚ she just stammered out‚ “B-But I—”

Before she could even get out that thought‚ her mother appeared‚ sat down on the couch‚ and added fuel to the already blazing fire that was Kagome’s life. “He’s right‚ dear. It is bad luck to refuse a kiss underneath the mistletoe.”

Kagome's blush only darkened‚ her current hit list growing as she turned to see the clear mischief in her mother’s eyes. Was her family really against her right now? She prayed for a black hole to consume her in this very moment.

But no such thing occured.

Unbeknownst to the others‚ Inuyasha had been oddly quiet due to another inner battle. Obviously the thought of kissing Kagome had been something on his mind for quite some time‚ along with some other… more… explicit things. But he never thought it was something that would ever come to pass.

When he had tried to kiss her super early on in their journey‚ she had quickly rejected him. Honestly‚ he didn’t even know what had come over him at the time; the sun was just shining at the perfect angle‚ and he realized just how beautiful she really was. He didn’t know that Kagome had thought he was seeing through her to his past love. The truth was‚ he was seeing Kagome‚ only Kagome‚ and that was the first time he felt a true pull to be with her in a less platonic way.

But after being rejected‚ he gave up on that idea. 

Then‚ they seemed to get closer. They were friends‚ best friends. For months‚ he saved her life‚ and she saved his in return. Then one day‚ when they were alone in her bedroom‚ no kitsunes‚ no kid brothers‚ no lecherous monks… he was going to do it. He was finally going to kiss her‚ and hope to convey through that one kiss that he loved her‚ without saying the actual words aloud.

Although‚ if she had told him she loved him‚ he would have manned up and returned the sentiment. He wouldn’t have had her believe otherwise.

But then her family returned home‚ and her annoying little brother just had to slam the bedroom door open and ruin everything.

He was so damn close! And she seemed to be into it. He could have sworn he scented a small spike of… something… that proved his theory‚ but he didn’t have time to ponder that theory for long before his face was on the floor. And not even by the stupid sit command that time; the wench had pushed him down with her own two hands.

After that‚ they kind of acted like nothing happened‚ so he let it pass. He wasn’t going to try again‚ especially when the opportunity didn’t present itself. He thought he knew what she had meant when she said there needed to be a ‘mood’ set. And there definitely wasn’t any of that since that incident.

And he was pretty damn sure‚ this wasn’t a ‘mood’‚ either.

Then his ears heard something that her mother said‚ and everything else took a seat to more important matters at hand. He opened his mouth to speak‚ but then closed it again‚ not quite sure what to say.

Kagome noticed this‚ and spoke up to him for the first time in what seemed like an eternity. “I-It’s just a stupid tradition‚ Inuyasha…”

Embarrassment slowly fading‚ the thought of Kagome in possible danger overriding his insecurities‚ he finally spoke‚ “I-Is it really bad luck? Will somethin’ happen to you?”

Kagome shook her head; partly in denial of the situation‚ and partly in answer to his question. She knew of the superstition‚ but that was still no reason to force Inuyasha to kiss her… She wasn’t that naïve‚ she knew he didn’t really want to kiss her. The first time he almost did‚ he only saw Kikyo when he was looking at her. The second time‚ everything was just emotional‚ and they got carried away.

She held back her tears‚ knowing now was not the time to break down. She didn’t want him to do this because of some stupid superstition‚ and not in front of her family‚ damn it!

“Th-That’s just what people say…‚” she spoke nervously‚ her cheeks gaining more color as she watched his eyes dart down to her lips for a split second. If she would have blinked‚ she definitely would have missed it. She gulped.

Inuyasha didn’t know if this ‘superstition’ was true or not‚ but honestly‚ he didn’t care much at the moment. He was about to say something else‚ or kiss her‚ or… something not stupid‚ when the old man spoke for the first time in what seemed like forever‚ and what he had to say‚ actually shocked everyone involved.

“Now‚ normally I would tell you not to kiss any boys‚ young lady… but your mother and brother are correct in that it is very bad luck to refuse a kiss under the mistletoe.”

Kagome mentally facepalmed‚ and her list just increased to three people. Looked like it’ll just be her and Buyo. She’ll live with it. But first‚ she needed to get out of this damn situation!

How the hell did I get myself into this mess?

She glanced around the room. Her brother on the floor sitting criss-cross‚ his little annoying smirk evident. Her mother sitting on the far end of the couch‚ her grin hidden behind her hand as she looked toward the television pretending not to pay them any more attention. And her grandfather‚ once again facing the TV‚ his eyes half closed as he was nearing sleep already.

She turned back to look up into Inuyasha’s now determined golden eyes. Her blush increased tenfold as she watched him begin to get closer and closer. Her eyes widened just a little bit‚ knowing what his intention was. But did she dare let him kiss her? She could just osuwari him and run. Maybe get a plane ticket to America… She had always wanted to visit there…

She was brought out of her reverie by the feel of his breath fanning against her mouth; her breath caught in her throat. 

Oh boy…

All thoughts left her instantaneously when she felt his lips on hers. She let out a small gasp as her eyes fluttered shut and she leaned forward to increase the pressure of their lips. She forgot her family was in the room. She forgot there was even a life outside of this moment. She felt Inuyasha’s clawed hand lightly cup her cheek and she sighed against his mouth‚ her own hands raising to grab onto the front of his suikan for some sort of support.

Inuyasha was listening to the old man confirm that there was indeed bad luck involved if he didn’t kiss her. It’s not like he didn’t want to kiss her… but if he could use that as an excuse‚ then he’ll finally be able to do it without chickening out or being interrupted. Yeah‚ it’s a little weird to kiss the girl you love in front of her family‚ but it’s not like they were against the idea…

He inwardly nodded to himself. He’s going to kiss her before he lost his nerve. Just one kiss‚ no bad luck‚ and he’ll get some insight to how Kagome felt about the whole situation. All he could really scent right now was nervousness and embarrassment. He wanted to make her forget her embarrassment‚ even if it’s only for a moment. He knew that afterward‚ he’ll most likely be just as embarrassed‚ if not moreso‚ but he wanted to kiss her‚ damn it! 

And that’s what he intended to do…

He looked down at her as she turned back toward him‚ and his confidence skyrocketed. He saw and smelled the change in her; she knew what he was about to do‚ and there was no way he was stopping now. He lowered his face slowly toward hers‚ slow enough that she could stop him or shove him away if she really wanted to – but she didn’t.

He got so close‚ that the tiny sound of her breath catching in her throat was easily recognizable. He inwardly smirked. Her heart rate was escalating. Her embarrassment was slowly decreasing as a muskier undertone took over.

Then he closed the distance.

He heard Kagome’s small gasp and her scent changed more and more‚ her excitement increasing as her previous thoughts of embarrassment faded completely. His own eyes closed just as hers fluttered shut‚ and he had to hold back a whimper when he felt her press her lips even more firmly against his.

The first thought to cross his mind was‚ She’s kissing me back!

All other thoughts left him as he needed to be even closer to her. He lifted his right hand and cupped her cheek‚ his mouth moving against hers just a little bit to test the waters. He stifled a growl when he felt Kagome’s small hands grasp the front of his suikan and pull him just a little closer to her…

It ended quicker than they both would have liked‚ only lasting a total of about three seconds‚ but the sound of a cough and a snicker from Kagome’s little brother had them pulling apart as if they were physically burned.

Kagome looked up into Inuyasha’s eyes‚ her own wide and her face as red as his robe of the fire rat. He looked to be about the same‚ but she chose to try and force her heart rate back down‚ hopefully ignoring the annoying flutter in her stomach for the time being as well. She cleared her throat and turned to see that her brother was chuckling to himself‚ her grandfather was now asleep‚ and her mother was standing up and putting her sweater on.

Before she could even speak‚ her mother beat her to it. “Well‚ it’s getting late. Gramps‚ Souta and I were planning on going to the Illuminations show tonight‚ you both are welcome to join us‚ if you’d like.”

Kagome looked back to Inuyasha‚ his eyes showing his confusion‚ so she swallowed the awkwardness and spoke‚ “I-It’s a light show. You probably wouldn't like it…”

He only nodded and averted his gaze with another blush‚ his bravado now completely shattered.

Kagome turned back to her mother and smiled the best she could. “Well‚ I think I’m just gonna go to bed.”

“Alright dear‚” her mother responded with a knowing smile as she went to wake up grandpa so they could leave.

A few moments later‚ Kagome and Inuyasha were alone in the house. The silence that surrounded them was more than just a little awkward‚ but Kagome was determined to forget it had ever happened.

Yeah right… How can I forget that kiss?

She sighed as she turned and began to head up to her room. She heard Inuyasha following close behind and she really wished that he would say something. Something Inuyasha-like. Something stupid so that she knew he was still the same Inuyasha…

Unbeknownst to her‚ Inuyasha was in deep thought. Now that he had had a small taste of the woman he had loved and lusted over for months‚ he didn’t want it to be a one and done deal. He wanted to kiss her again. He wanted to do more than just kiss her… but one thing at a time.

Maybe he could somehow get his bravado back and kiss her without the dumb plant and the stupid bad luck that forced them to do that in the first place.

He was in such deep thought‚ that he barely noticed when he entered Kagome’s room‚ not until she closed the door and then stood in front of him. She looked like she was about to say something‚ but then her eyes widened and her blush returned. He wondered what had caused such a reaction‚ but then his nose caught the smell.

The same woodsy and fruity scent as before.

He followed her eye sight to the spot just above their heads and his own face blossomed into a very good impression of a tomato as well.

Souta, I’m seriously gonna kill you! she thought to herself. Could this be any more awkward?

“So uh...” Inuyasha began‚ catching Kagome’s immediate attention. “…it’s bad luck if we don’t… Right?” He scratched behind his ear nervously‚ hoping this would actually allow him to get closer to her once again. To hell with not using the plant. It worked the first time‚ didn’t it?

Kagome stared up at him‚ nervousness and giddiness roaring within her at the prospect of kissing Inuyasha again. She pushed back the thought of him only doing this because of some superstition‚ and instead focused on the fact that she was finally getting something she had wanted for so long. Even if it was just one more time…

She swallowed the lump in her throat and nodded slowly. “R-Right‚” she agreed.

He nodded his head as well and then cupped her cheek in his right hand‚ the tips of his fingers curled behind her neck‚ his thumb on her cheek. She felt his claws barely prick her skin and it sent shivers of pleasure down her spine. He lowered his face towards hers‚ much less hesitantly than he had earlier. Kagome raised her own hands to behind his neck and closed her eyes just as their lips met for the second time that day – for the second time ever.

Neither of them quite understood what was happening between them‚ but they both knew that this was definitely something. And they both decided in that moment to go with the flow‚ as it started to become obvious that the other was wanting this as well.

Kagome couldn’t prevent the small moan as she felt Inuyasha’s fang lightly scrape her bottom lip. Inuyasha would have paused to make sure that she was okay if he hadn’t smelled her scent spike in that exact moment. He did nothing to stifle his growl as his left hand wrapped around her lower back and pulled her body flush up against his‚ his mouth beginning to move against hers even more insistently.

Kagome gasped when he pulled her body up against him‚ her heart rate beating out of her chest‚ but her excitement growing as well as her own confidence. She buried her hands in his long silver mane and held him as closely as possible as she snaked her tongue out to taste his lips.

They both moaned when he opened up for her‚ eagerly letting her in to explore. Her first exploration were of those sinfully sexy fangs. She had had many dreams and fantasies of him using his fangs all over her body‚ and the thought only had her losing any and all semblance of control she was just barely hanging on to.

She swiped her tongue along each fang‚ causing a pleased rumble to escape the hanyou as he held her closer to his body. Kagome immediately felt the evidence of his own arousal in that movement‚ and it only proved to turn her on even more. Inuyasha would have been embarrassed for his body’s betrayal‚ if it wasn’t for the fact that Kagome’s scent spiked once more along with her fervor. She moaned as she swirled her tongue around his‚ Inuyasha allowing a predatory growl to escape his throat as she did so.

It was beginning to be harder than ever for the both of them to pull apart. Neither of them had any sense of what was up or what was down. They just knew that they didn’t want to let this moment go.

Ultimately‚ it was Kagome to make the next move‚ as she lowered her hands to the ties of his Hakama and tugged him towards her as she began to back away from her bedroom door and towards her bed instead.

Mrs. Higurashi did embarrass the both of them by declaring that she hoped her future grandchildren had Inuyasha’s ears. Inuyasha blushed bright crimson‚ but while Kagome did turn a little pink‚ she couldn’t help but agree with her mother. She absolutely loved Inuyasha’s ears‚ and they would be adorable on her little pups!

Later that evening‚ during dinner‚ Kagome and Inuyasha told Souta and Jii-chan that they were together now. They said how they planned on living in the past once their mission was over‚ but will always come visit as long as the well permits them to. Obviously‚ Souta was so happy. The ten year old had a bunch of questions‚ which thankfully‚ were G rated. Jii-chan was a tougher nut to crack‚ but even he admitted that he had known all along that Kagome’s destiny was with the odd looking boy from the past. He gave them both his blessing and they continued with the rest of Christmas happy and content with how their lives would continue.

The following morning‚ Kagome and Inuyasha awoke groggily. They had stayed up late last night indulging in each other’s bodies. They both seemed to have developed an addiction‚ not that either of them care. It’s all in good fun. A lot of fun‚ if you asked them.

When Kagome opened her eyes‚she saw the bright golden ones of her mate‚ making her smile as she leaned forward for a good morning kiss. He indulged in her easily‚ but didn’t allow it to go too far‚ since they had told their friends they would be back this morning. 

Kagome groaned as she forced herself to get out of bed‚ Inuyasha chuckling at her as he got dressed. She mock glared at him before grabbing a pair of clothes and heading towards the bathroom to take a shower before they had to leave.

When she was fully clean and dressed‚ she packed up her monstrosity of a yellow bag‚ and then after their goodbyes‚ they headed out toward the well. Inuyasha wrapped his left arm around Kagome’s waist and hopped them both through the time portal. It was decided between them‚ that they didn’t want to hide their relationship from their friends. They just wouldn’t outwardly declare them a couple just yet. But if they happened to figure it out‚ or if the newly mated couple forgot about an audience when speaking or leaning in for a kiss‚ then so be it. It wasn’t that big of a deal‚ knowing their friends would always be there for them.

When they made it to the Sengoku Jidai‚ Kagome and Inuyasha both took a deep breath in of the fresh air. Now that they were mates‚ Kagome’s senses have grown‚ and she completely understood Inuyasha’s need to be in the past. The air was cleaner‚ it’s less loud‚ it’s more beautiful‚ all around the perfect place to raise their future family.

With that final thought in mind‚ they jumped out of the well‚ Kagome laughing as Inuyasha hugged her to him‚ his claws tickling her side in the movement. He smirked at her as they landed down on the grass‚ and Kagome pushed his hand off of her with a muttered‚ “Jerk‚” although there was no real heat to it.

He leaned down and captured her lips with his own‚ a growl escaping from deep within his throat. “Bitch‚” he purred against her mouth, making her heart thunder within her chest.

“Yours‚” she whispered before wrapping her arms around his neck and deepening the kiss. 

They were very rudely interrupted by a kitsune yelling‚ “Kagomeeee!” and as they quickly pulled apart‚ eyes wide‚ they turned to see the amusement on Miroku’s face‚ blush on Sango’s‚ and Shippo was just happy to see the Miko as he jumped into Kagome’s arms.

“Shippo!” Kagome yelled happily as she caught the orange blur. She glanced at Inuyasha‚ who was blushing‚ his arms stuffed in his sleeves‚ but she could easily see the small upturn of his lips‚ making her smile a little to herself as well.

“Well well‚ it seems you two have been busy these past few days‚” Miroku spoke with a hint of lecherousness to his voice as he waggled his eyebrows at them.

“Pervert‚” Inuyasha grumbled with a shake of his head.

Shippo’s little eyes widened as his nose moved about a million miles a second‚ jumping from Kagome’s shoulder to Inuyasha’s and back. Inuyasha was just about to snatch the little runt from the air by his tail‚ when said runt declared‚ “you’re mate bonded!”

The couple visibly grew more red at the way Shippo had so easily said such a thing‚ but they quickly let it go. They had already decided it didn’t matter if their friends found out‚ so they played it off like everything was normal.

“Feh‚ what of it?”

As Miroku opened his mouth to speak‚ Sango elbowed him in the rib cage and smiled at her friends. “I’m very happy for you‚ Kagome-chan‚ Inuyasha.”

Kagome smiled as she reached over and took Inuyasha’s hand in her own. He blushed at the public display‚ but he didn’t pull away‚ instead curling his fingers with hers.

“Indeed‚” Miroku agreed with a true smile as the six of them‚ which included a small Kirara‚ began their trek back to Kaede’s hut to come up with a plan of hunting down Naraku.

No one knew of just what was going to come of the final battle‚ but one thing was for certain; they all had what they needed. Someone to love and a promise of a wonderful future.

Kagome and Inuyasha still could hardly believe that their love was finally revealed all because of one little plant; a kiss underneath the mistletoe.
