Chapter 2: Hanyou's Confusion and Big Surprise

Inuyasha woke up before the sun rose across the horizon. He looked around the campsite and found everybody was still sleeping, including Kagome, who was sleeping on his lap with her head nestled on his muscular, firm chest. Inuyasha brought a clawed hand to Kagome's face. He let one of his fingers outline her jaw. "Her skin is soft and warm." he thought. The image of a dead priestess creped into his mind.

~Flashback~

"Inuyasha, isn't this a peaceful place?" "Feh" Kikyo looked up to see Inuyasha sitting on a branch. "Come down Inuyasha, let's go for a walk." Inuyasha looked down at Kikyo's smiling face and he couldn't help but smile back. He leaped off the tree and landed next to Kikyo. The couple began to walk along the riverbank as the sun began to set. It gave the sky a beautiful shade of orange and red. As they walked further Kikyo tripped over a rock and was falling towards the water, but the splash never came. A strong pair of arms curled around her waist suspended her above the water. Inuyasha lifted her to a standing position, but never let her go of his embrace. Inuyasha stared into Kikyo's chocolate-brown eyes filled with love. He slowly brought his head down to claim her lips in a scorching kiss. Kikyo raised her arms and encircled them around Inuyasha's neck. The sun completely disappeared from view, but the kissing couple never left each other's embrace.

~End of flashback~

Inuyasha felt anger swell in chest, `That happened the day before Naraku turned me and Kikyo against each other. That fucking bastard will pay. I AM going to avenge Kikyo's death.' A soft moan escaped Kagome's lips and averted Inuyasha's attention to her. "Kagome" he whispered. His anger immediately disappeared and felt peace and serenity take over. Her scent intoxicated his senses. `She has the most wonderful scent.' He felt blood rushing towards his face. His blush deepened when Kagome snuggled closer to his chest. Thoughts of him and Kagome on their adventures for the jewel shards plagued his mind. Once he had been close to kissing her, but she pushed him away. That thought got him upset, but he didn't know why. `Why would that thought bother me? It's not like I actually wanted to kiss her! I wanted to kiss her because she looks like Kikyo.' The more the hanyou thought about it he realized that Kagome had a completely different personality from Kikyo. `Kagome looks like Kikyo, but she is so different from her.' The more Inuyasha thought about Kagome and Kikyo just got more and more confused. `Wait, why am I thinking about Kagome in that way? It's Kikyo who I'm in love with.' The thought really wasn't any comfort to him, and it was as reassuring as it would have been if he had said it 50 years ago. With one more look at Kagome's face he fell back to sleep.

A couple of minutes after Inuyasha feel asleep the sun began to rise. Kagome opened her honey-brown eyes, but she didn't like what she saw. She closed her eyes again. Images of her nightmare from last still haunted her. `Inuyasha left with Kikyo.' She saw them kissing in front her and being dragged down to hell. Kagome shook her head vigorously trying to push those thoughts out of her head. She grabbed a red piece of fabric, but since her eyes were closed she never noticed. She began to sob into the cloth and edged closer to hit. Inuyasha opened his eyes when he felt something wet seep through his clothing. He looked down to see Kagome crying. He wanted to comfort her like he did last night, but he couldn't, his body wasn't responding from the shock. He had been caught red-handed sleeping with Kagome in his arms and by Kagome nonetheless! Kagome wiped the tears from her eyes and realized the fabric she was holding was red. She only knew one person who wore red. Slowly Kagome raised her head to see a pair of shocked amber eyes staring into her honey-brown orbs. Kagome's instincts took over and she did the only thing any woman would do in her position would, she screamed. "AHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!" Birds and other animals that were sound asleep flew from the treetops. Miroku, Sango, Shippo and Kilala woke up with a jolt putting on their fighting stance, but when they saw the scene before them, needless to say it wasn't what they expected.
