A/N: Ok, I'm going to take it easy on Inuyasha. But there still will be scenes with Kikyo and Kagome with Kouga. This is how I planned it since the beginning. This is still an Inuyasha and Kagome fan fic. ""=talking, ``=thinking

Chapter 5- Howls and Barks

"Feh, come on, we've wasted enough time here. Let's get back to hunting for the jewel shards." Kagome and the rest of the group nodded. "Kilala, transform" said Sango, as she threw Kilala in the air. The small cat was devoured by flames and then landed on the ground as she emerged from them a huge predator. Sango, Miroku and Shippo climbed onto Kilala's back and headed towards the sky.

"Come on Kagome. What are you waiting for?" scolded Inuyasha. He slightly bended his knees so Kagome could climb onto his back. "Ok, just let me finish getting my things." She grabbed her bow and arrows. She had given her huge, yellow bag to Sango, since Kilala could hold more weight. "Ready Inuyasha!" Inuyasha crouched down, "About time." Kagome playfully pouted at Inuyasha, making it seem as though she was hurt, "You're so mean Inuyasha." She stuck out her tongue to prove her point. Kagome climbed onto his back and tugged teasingly at Inuyasha's silver, furry doggy ears. "Hey" he objected, but he knew he liked it when Kagome tugged at his ears, like some sort of puppy. When Kagome stopped her playful tugs on his ears Inuyasha had to suppress a whimper. `I was actually enjoying that.' "Look who's talking about wasting time." Her laughter rang in Inuyasha's ears. He pretended to be insulted. "Come on Inuyasha, it's just a joke." Inuyasha leaped into the air with a "Feh."

Kagome was taken by surprise at Inuyasha's sudden leap. Her hands gripped his shoulders instantly. Once she got used to Inuyasha's movements across the treetops, her loose loosened. She moved her head and rested it against the crook of Inuyasha's neck. `I love this feeling when I'm with you Inuyasha" she thought to herself. Kagome let out a sigh of contentment as Inuyasha took another leap off a treetop. `I love you, Inuyasha.'

Inuyasha leaped from one treetop to the next. `I wonder what Kagome's thinking about?' He looked at her from the corner of his eye as she sighed.

He returned his gaze back to the scenery in front of him, but his thoughts were still focused on Kagome. `Why can't I stop thinking about Kagome all of the sudden?' the thought kept plaguing the hanyou's mind for days now and he still couldn't find an answer. `Me and Kagome kissed too. Did she mean to kiss me? Did she enjoy it?' Inuyasha almost lost his balance as he realized his thoughts. He quickly regained his footing, but he sensed something was wrong. When he realized Kagome was no longer mounted on his back he panicked. "KAGOME", he yelled. His yelling was rewarded by a scream from Kagome, "INUYASHA!" Inuyasha rushed down to the ground below him. When he landed, he heard a thump land beside h8im.

"Inuyasha, where is Kagome?" asked Miroku, as he jumped off Kilala. Sango and Shippo followed suit. "Yes, Inuyasha. We heard you and Kagome scream each other's names." said Sango, with concern evident t in her voice. Shippo leap to Inuyasha's shoulder, "Where is Kagome, Inuyasha?" Inuyasha could feel the little kitsune's despair, but his temper and worry didn't let him answer the little fox demon calmly. "How the hell do I know? If I did know where she was, we wouldn't be here" he snapped. "You don't have to be so mean Inuyasha" the kitsune snapped back as he jumped off Inuyasha and onto Kilala.

"This place looks familiar" said Miroku. Inuyasha sniffed the air, "Of course it is. This is the wolf den." A smirk spread across his lips, "Kouga's scent is all over the place."

A gush of wind picked up and a whirlwind came rushing towards them. They all took their defensive stances. Inuyasha had tetsusaiga transformed, but didn't look fazed by the fast coming tornado. Sango whispered to Miroku, "Houshi, why doesn't Inuyasha look as he normally does when encountering a battle." Miroku sighed, "Who's the only person who makes an entrance such as this?" Sango nodded, "I see, it's…" Before Sango could finish Inuyasha came in front of them with tetsusaiga ready, as the whirlwind stopped. "Kouga, give me back Kagome!" he barked.

In front of the group stood Kouga, the demon wolf prince, tall, strong, fast, muscular with jet black hair, high in a pony tail and brilliant blue eyes. Nestled comfortably in his strong arms was Kagome, who was smiling, "Hi guys."

Inuyasha's jaw dropped. "Wh...What the hell is going on here?" Kouga smirked, "Shut up mutt face. It's your fault Kagome fell, but I should be thanking you. She fell right into my arms." Kouga grinned even wider as he pressed Kagome closer to his chest. Kagome shifted a little to accommodate herself, "Kouga, please put me down." Kouga looked at Kagome, who was beaming at him, however he reluctantly let her go. "Thank you Kouga, for everything that have done." She stood next to him, still smiling.

Inuyasha couldn't stand it, jealousy was taking over. He got in between Kagome and Kouga. "Listen you mangy wolf, Kagome is not your woman, so BACK OFF!" A growl emitted from both Inuyasha and Kouga.

Miroku, Sango, Shippo and Kagome sweat dropped. "Isn't this getting a little old?" asked Sango. Miroku sighed and nodded along with Kagome. "I HEARD THAT!' Sango gasped, but regained her composure, `I forgot for a second Inuyasha was half demon.'

Inuyasha turned his attention back to Kouga, "Now where were we?"

A smirk spread across both their faces. Kouga flexed his claws and made a launch at Inuyasha. "I'm faster and stronger than you dog breath." Using the power of the jewel shards in his legs, Kouga delivered a blow to Inuyasha's stomach. That sent both him and tetsusaiga crashing into a tree. Kagome instantly reacted to the situation, "Inuyasha stop, Kouga's using the jewel shards." Inuyasha growled and stood up, "Shut up and stay out of this Kagome" he barked. Kagome's hand came over her heart in a fist and she took a step back. She was clearly hurt.

Kouga took advantage of Inuyasha's distracted attention. He leaped to the sky and came crashing down hitting Inuyasha on his shoulders. Inuyasha slammed into the ground. "INUYASHA!" yelled Kagome, but she still didn't move. Kouga turned around, as though in slow motion, his hair whipping against his face, `She's worried about mutt face?' "Never take you eyes off your opponent." Inuyasha punched Kouga in his jaw. Kouga growled in frustration as blood trickled down his chin. "You'll pay for that mutt face!" "Don't underestimate me, flea bag" retaliated Inuyasha. Inuyasha kicked Kouga in the mouth and delivered a blow straight to his stomach. Kouga fell to the ground. Using his own demonic speed, Inuyasha retrieved tetsusaiga from the tree in which Kouga had slammed him into.

Kouga was lying on the floor, bleeding when Inuyasha appeared before him, tetsusaiga transformed in hand. "Now to take you down once and for all, KAZE NO KI…" "Inuyasha, SIT!" "What the…" Inuyasha went pummeling to the ground.

Kagome kneeled by Inuyasha and looked back at Kouga, "please Kouga, just go before Inuyasha gets up." Kouga didn't need to be told twice. As he ran back to his lair he shouted a message to Kagome, "I will make you my woman Kagome!" with that said he disappeared in a gush of wind.

Inuyasha sat up with a struggle, "Kagome, what the hell did you do that for?" he asked pissed off. Kagome's bangs hung over her eyes and she stayed motionless. Inuyasha looked confused at Kagome and then looked at Miroku and Sango for some help. His amber pleading for anything advice they could have. When they couldn't offer him anything, his attention went back to Kagome. Kagome suddenly sprung to life, she wrapped her arms around his neck and pressed her body closer to his. "Inuyasha" she sobbed, but didn't let him go.

Inuyasha was stunned, but wrapped his arms around her waist. "I'm fine Kagome. That wimpy wolf couldn't hurt me." Inuyasha had fractured a rib, but didn't want to tell Kagome that. Kagome relaxed into his arms, "I know Inuyasha. I was still worried about you. Inuyasha's eyes widened, `She was worried about me.' Inuyasha leaned his head into Kagome's, "I'm fine now Kagome. There's no need to worry" he whispered. In both their minds the world ceased to exist. There was no Naraku, no Kikyo, just them together in each other's arms.
