InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ My One and Only ❯ Past and Present ( Chapter 11 )

[ P - Pre-Teen ]

A/N: Okay, here's the 11th chapter. This site sometimes has problems when I place a break between paragraphs to insinuate scene changes. I placed `X's in between paragraphs to differ between past and present. I hope it shows. Well, enjoy!

Chapter 11- Past and Present {I couldn't really think up of a title, so since I change from past to future I named it that :)

Naraku's lips formed a sinister smile, "What is it you wish to speak to me about Kikyo?"

Kikyo gracefully walked over to where Naraku sat in the corner of his room, "Inuyasha has fallen in love with my reincarnation."

Naraku chuckled darkly, "So, the half-breed did fall in love with your reincarnation. What are you going to do about it?"

Kikyo narrowed her eyes at dastardly man sitting before, "I want you to make Inuyasha rue the day he broke his promise to me. I will always be his fist love, make him choose between me and my reincarnation."

Naraku slowly stood up from his position, "It seems to be that he already chosen Kikyo."

Her hands balled into fists, "His life belongs to me Naraku. I will be the one who take Inuyasha's life." `The same way I will take your life Naraku.' she added mentally.

Naraku smirked, "I believe I can help you Kikyo."

Kikyo's lips returned Naraku's smirk with an evil smile, "I knew you would."

…………………….

Inuyasha's wet form made its way back to the sacred tree. `I finally realize how I truly feel about Kagome. I need to tell her before she runs off.'

The sacred tree, Goshinbuko, came into view. `Where is Kagome? I was sure she hadn't left yet.'

He landed as gracefully as he could on the wet ground, "Kagome!? Are you here!?"

He held his nose up in the air and sniffed, "Damn it, her scent is faint. She must have already gone to the well."

Taking to the air once again, Inuyasha began to make his way to the well.

………………………. .

Kagome lay uncomfortable on her bed, always changing positions. `I wonder what Inuyasha is doing?' She shook her head at her foolishness, `No, I refuse to think about him! He's probably off with Kikyo.'Tears stung the back of her honey-brown eyes. `I wanted to tell him I loved him, but he had to ruin it by going off with her! You're such a fool Inuyasha.'

Out of anger and hurt she punched her pillow harshly before crying completely into it. A painful thought popped in her head, `Maybe I'mthe fool. I was foolish enough to fall in love with a guy, whose heart belonged to another.'

This got Kagome more depressed and she continued her silent crying into her pillow.

……………………..

Inuyasha saw the old well in the middle of the clearing. The rain continued to pour on the luscious green forest and on the hanyou. Inuyasha landed before the well, his golden eyes immediately searching for the girl from the future.

"Kagome, did you already go back to your time?" he whispered to himself.

His placed his clawed hands over the rim of the well, while his silver-haired head peered inside the long, dark passageway to 500 years in the future.

`She's not here, so that only leaves her time.'

Inuyasha jumped over the edge of well, hoping Kagome was willing to hear him out.

…………………….

Using the little strength she had left, Kagome pushed herself off the bed. She mechanically walked over to her dresser to look at herself in the mirror. Her once joyful, bright brown eyes were now cloudy and dazed. Her face was red and blotchy from her excessive crying. She felt disgusted with her reflection, `I will never be the beauty Kikyo was.'More tears threatened to fall, but she held them at bay. `No, I've done enough crying already.'She wiped away any remains of salty droplets off her tear-stained face.

`A hot bath will help me calm my nerves.'

She made her way to the bathroom. As steadily as she could she turned on the hot water and let it run until it made a small pool inside her bathtub.

She took off her grass and mud stained uniform before she plunged into the hot, relaxing water.

`Will Inuyasha follow me? If he does, what will he do when he finds out he can't make it past the well?'

……………………….

Inuyasha dove inside the well, expecting swirling, blue lights to engulf his entire being but they didn't come. He opened his eyes and looked back up the mouth of the well. Inuyasha still saw the dark, gray clouds hovering above and he still felt the droplets of rain.

`Why can't I go through?'

Inuyasha jumped up again and landed roughly on the bottom of the well, but again, the mystical lights did not appear.

"Something is wrong; I can't get back to her time.'

For the first time since he was a child, Inuyasha felt hopeless. He sunk to knees and began to pound on the dirt, "Kagome! Get back here right now!" he continued to shout at the dirt, though inside he knew she couldn't respond, he still felt that she could feel his anger, worry and most of all love.

"KAGOME!"

……………………

Kagome changed into her baby blue pajamas with cloud prints all over them. Sitting down on her bed, hugging herself, her thoughts returned to the feudal era.

`Have my friends noticed that I'm gone? Did he notice?'

Kagome sighed, "I'm sure Sango, Miroku and Shippo have noticed that I'm gone. I hope they aren't mad at me for leaving without saying goodbye."

Suddenly a sharp pain pierced through her heart. Her hands quickly clutched her chest. Her breathes became short and fast.

`What's going on?' she thought, scared.

Kagome let out a heart shattering scream before darkness clouded her vision.

………………….

Inuyasha clutched his aching heart. So many emotions were eating him up inside; anger because Kagome left him, relief because once he told Kikyo he loved Kagome a huge weight felt as though it was lifted off his shoulders, hurt because Kikyo still refused to let him go as he let go, but most of love because he fell in love with HIS Kagome.

Inuyasha's heart thumped harder against his chest; inside his head he could have sworn he heard a scream. Shaking his head he left the well to go have a talk with Kaede.

………………..

Kagome opened her eyes, her vision distorted and hazy. "What happened?" she asked, as she tired to get up from bed.

"You screamed and fainted. We all rushed upstairs to see if you were okay. You gave us a fright Kagome." Mrs. Higurashi smiled lovingly at her daughter as he brushed a strand of raven hair behind her daughter's ear.

Kagome pushed herself up and hugged her mother, "I'm sorry I scared you. How long have I been asleep?"

Mrs. Higurashi soothingly ran her hand up and down her daughter's back, "You've been asleep since yesterday, when you fainted. What happened Kagome?"

`I've been in my time for a day already.'

Kagome let go of her mother and stared out the window. The sun was already setting. She let out a sigh as returned her attention back to her mother, "I don't know. I was sitting on my bed and suddenly I felt a sharp pain in my chest. After that, I must have fainted."

Mrs. Higurashi nodded, "Kagome, may I ask why you came from the feudal era early? I wasn't expecting you to come back home until next week."

Kagome darted her eyes back to her bedroom window, `Because Inuyasha doesn't love me.' "I don't want to talk about it mom, not now."

Mrs. Higurashi nodded and gave her daughter a small smile, "I understand Kagome. Remember, whatever you decide to do, you know I'll back you up 100%."

Kagome's eyes became glossy with fresh tears, but she didn't let them flow, "Thanks mom. I…I think I'm ready to go back to the feudal era, but I'm not going back for Inuyasha. I just need to sort out my head in fresh air."

Mrs. Higurashi smiled knowingly, "I'll go get you a fresh uniform. We want them to see you're still the same Kagome." Kagome's mother stood up from her daughter's bedside and out the door. A few seconds later her mother emerged again with a fresh new uniform in her hands, "Here you go Kagome."

Kagome got up from her bed and hugged her mother once again, "Thanks again mama."

………………..

Inuyasha sat Indian style in front of the well. `It's already been two days since I last saw Kagome.'

"When are you coming back Kagome?" he whispered quietly. His amber eyes roamed over the horizon. `Great, the sun's setting and tonight's the new moon.' He sighed, `I guess Kagome isn't coming back tonight either.'

He slowly got up from the same position he was in for two days.

…………………

Kagome took in a deep breathe before she jumped into the dark well. The mystical, swirling blue lights engulfed her sending 500 years into the past.

A/N: I decided to end it there. School is about to star and my mind in jumbles right now. I'll try to update again as soon as I can, but school is right around the corner. What I will do is update the other two, `Puppy Love' and `Rags to Riches', hopefully by the end of this week. Keep those reviews coming!
