"Naked"

I wake up in the morning
Put on my face
The one that's gonna get me through another day

Sunshine filters through the lush leaves illuminating the small figure of a teenaged girl. A gentle smile touches her face as she murmurs a name and cuddles into a red haori that covers her body keeping her warm. Sleepily, she opens one eye, then another, slowly removing herself from the covers that she believes to be her sleeping bag. Frowning now, her mind grasps for an elusive dream. However, the only thoughts that return are a name and a tingling feeling throughout her body. She knows what they are and what they mean. Her mouth now turns thin, taunt, her eyes glass over. Yes, they are dreams, dreams that can never be. Painfully almost, she forces her mouth into a grin. It is the mask she wears.

How I feel inside
This life is like a game sometimes

She could never let them see, never let them guess what was truly in her heart. But her eyes, she cannot change them. They are still sad, still distant…they are her soul. She snorts, laughing at her foolish thoughts. Emotions. What good are they? No, it doesn't matter. She is a tool in a video game. The shard detector. The means to an end. Only a tool…just a tool.

Then you came around me
The walls just disappeared
Nothing to surround me
Keep me from my fears

::Couple of hours before::

Shake, shake. Fuzzy white ears pick up a sound carried on the wind. Shake, shake, pause, shiver, shake, shake. Golden eyes peer into the darkness below him. All seems fine. Closing his eyes, the strange silver-haired boy clears his mind for sleep. Then, shake, shake, pause clatter, shake, shake.

"…." One thought, 'what the hell?'

Landing gracefully, the hanyou known as Inuyasha jumps from his perch in a tree and begins to search for the sound that disturbs his sleep. After a few minutes…shake, shake, clatter, shiver, shake, shake.... Silver hair whips around as he zeros in on the creator of the sound, eyes keen, claws ready. Suddenly, his muscles loosen and eyes soften. More rustling sounds come from a lump in a sleeping bag. Quietly he walks over to the form in the covers. "Pitiful," he whispers as he watches the form, teeth clattering, body shaking. Yes, the form was a girl. A girl from the future. Quickly, he takes off the red jacket of his clothing and places it on the girl. As suddenly as her shivers had begun, they stop. He turns to leave, poising to jump up the branches, but stops. A yawn/murmur, "….nk you ….yasha." He smiles, this girl, she set him free…but now, (he frowns) there's nothing to hold on to. The walls he had built, paved around his heart, were confining, yes, but they supported him…She had made him vulnerable. She made him fear…fear for her safety, her acceptance…her love.

I'm unprotected
See how I've opened up
you've made me trust

Yes, she made him vulnerable. Now, there was nothing he wouldn't do for her. He thought he would never give it to somebody again…not after…Kikyo. (sigh) He had trusted Kikyo, but Kikyo, Kikyo had not trusted him. Now, after so long, he gave it again. But, he wonders, does Kagome trust me?

I've never felt like this before
I'm naked around you
Does it show?

Kagome stands, shaking herself from her thoughts. She has breakfast to make, shards to find…roles to play…emotions to subdue. Sighing, she leans over to pick up her bedding and pauses. Blinking a couple of times to see if what lies before her is real, she picks up the red haori which covered her during the night. Turning her eyes from the bright red garment, she searches for its owner. Her body stills as she meets a pair of golden eyes, his eyes. Nervously, she clutches the garment closer to her self, feeling as if his piercing gaze could see right through… right through to her heart.

You see right through me
And I can't hide
I'm naked around you
And it feels so right

Awakened by a gentle sigh, Inuyasha opens his eyes to stare down at the figure of a girl. He watches as her face becomes perplexed. disentangling her bedding from his jacket. Then, she lifts her eyes and stares straight at him. He realizes as he stares into those beautiful orbs that he cannot move. Her gaze pins him to his spot and pierces his heart. He can't hide from her, he can't run…because…she knows everything, she sees everything, she is everything. And, he realizes, he doesn't mind. A huge smile graces his lips as he stares down at her, at Kagome, at his everything.

Trying to remember
Why I was afraid
To be myself
And let the covers fall away

Her heart lifts as she stares at his huge grin. No longer nervous, no longer afraid, no longer needing to keep the emotions at bay. She smiles back, the expression of her dream, realizing there was never any reason to hide what she felt inside.

Guess I never had someone like you
To help me fit
In my skin

Jumping from his perch, the silver-haired boy lands gracefully yet again in front of the girl of his dreams. He realizes now that she trusts him. In that smile, she bore her soul to him. With Kikyo there was always the restraint, the wish that he was human, the wish that he was something else. Not Kagome, no not Kagome. She accepted him for what he was. He saw that in her gaze. And, as he captured her tender lips, he conquered his last doubt: her love.

Changes made 4/29/03 because a nice reviewer known as lynnxlady pointed out the bane of my life: verb tenses. AHHH!! And another mistake which I have now fixed!! So thank you lynnxlady!
