Never End

Chapter 6:

"Huh?" Kouga said, and he stopped running. "What do you mean what am I doing with her? I'm taking her to get healed before she dies!"

Sesshoumaru felt his anger rising at the stupidity of this still fairly young wolf youkai. "If you keep going on like that she will die before you are able to reach even the closest village, let alone the village where no doubt my half brother and his friends are," he said to Kouga through clenched teeth.

"If you hadn't have interrupted me she would've been well taken care of by now, I think you underestimate how fast I am," Kouga bragged.

"And I think you underestimate how close she is to death," Sesshoumaru said to him, his anger rising. "If you set her down now I will let you leave unharmed."

"Yeah, like I would give her back to you, I'm surprised you haven't killed her yet!" Kouga yelled to Sesshoumaru. Then his eyes lit up, a small smirk crossing his face. "If you want her, you'll have to catch me," he told Sesshoumaru, and then he started to kick up his trademark whirlwind.

"No problem," Sesshoumaru said, almost calmly.

"What?!" Kouga yelled, outraged that the youkai didn't even act like it would be the slightest challenge. Sesshoumaru should know by now how fast he was, rumors of his whirlwind had traveled all over Japan, and some other countries too! So why is this youkai so calm… `Maybe he's plotting something,' Kouga thought, `Well, whatever it is, I'm not going to fall into his trap!' Kouga slowed down and stopped running.

"I believe I said `No problem,' but maybe your arrogance is affecting your hearing," Sesshoumaru said, smiling inwardly at how angry Kouga was getting. `Stupid wolf, falling right into my trap.'

"No one talks to me like that!" Kouga yelled, then he set down Kagome and ran at Sesshoumaru. Sesshoumaru easily sidestepped the wolf and elbowed him hard in the back, making him crash into a tree.

"Thank you Kouga," Sesshoumaru said as he picked up Kagome, "It would be best if you ran away now." Sesshoumaru turned his back on the wolf and walked back towards his home.

"Damn him," Kouga said under his breath as he stood up. `Dog shit won't like this,' he thought to himself as he ran back towards the village.

As soon as he heard the wolf leave, Sesshoumaru set Kagome down. She was still alive, but thanks to that stupid wolf, and her own stupidity as well, she was in almost the same shape as she was when he found her the first time. He double checked her bandages and took some herbs out that he had spent all day picking. His medicine supply was getting low, and he was the only one who could reach some of the places where the more rare herbs grew. He pulled out a few yellowish looking leaves and started to grind them between two rocks. `Stupid girl,' he thought to himself as he looked down at her. `Now I'll have to keep her for even longer.' As he started to rub the ground leaves on her abdomen, making sure he was careful with his claws, the prospect of her staying longer did not seem like it was such a bad idea. `For Rin of course, it would be good for her to have another woman around the house for a while,' he tried to convince himself, then he continued to treat her wounds.

"There," he said out loud when he finished. `That should last her until we get back,' he thought as he picked her up gently. He walked quickly towards his house, but made sure he was not causing her any more pain. `Now as long as there are no other `rescue' attempts she should be able to recover just fine.'

"What do you mean you didn't get Kagome back?!" Shippou yelled at Kouga while the rest of the group sat down, getting ready for dinner. "You said not to worry! You said you'd get her! How come you didn't get her!"

"Whoa, chill little fella, I tried to, but dog shit's asshole brother stopped me," Kouga explained.

"Sesshoumaru stopped you?" Sango asked. "I would have thought he would have been more than happy to get rid of her."

"What exactly happened?" Inuyasha asked softly, looking up at Kouga. He had actually started to hate Kouga less, considering that he was their only hope of getting back Kagome. But if he finds out it was that wolf's fault that Sesshoumaru still had his Kagome…

Kouga tried to explain what happened in a way that didn't put him entirely at fault, but he was finding it difficult to make it seem like his foolishness cost them Kagome. "And then, um, I ran at him, and he threw me into a tree, and he picked her up and left," he finished, looking around at the group nervously.

"Kouga," Miroku started, his voice sad, "It's okay."

"Nani?" Kouga asked, confused. He had hoped they wouldn't be too angry at him, but he wasn't expecting them to be taking this so well.

"It wasn't your fault," Sango sighed, "Any of the rest of us would have most likely done the same thing. We'll just have to wait to get Kagome back."

"Right," Inuyasha said, "I just hope we won't be waiting forever." Shippou started to cry and Kouga ran off, feeling sorry for the group and angry at himself for not being able to help them.

Author's Notes: Kouga's pretty OOC here, but it's a fanfic, I'm allowed to do whatever I want, so nyah.
