Kaoru held her trembling daughter close.
“Kumiko, please understand.” Kaoru’s voice was small. Kumiko had the right to be angry and confused. She had a brother, and he was hanyou.
“Why did you keep this from me Mother?” Kumiko finally asked after a long night of saying nothing, only thinking. She thought of this mysterious child, her brother the spider hanyou. “I thought we were the only hanyous.”
Kaoru sighed sadly. “That child was the first hanyou to come into existence, he was born by deception. A demon spider deceived my family and I gave birth to his child, I never gave him a name.” Kaoru held back the on coming flow of tears. Her child was a abomination and he was never meant to be. The power he must possess.
“Did you not love him?” Kumiko asked, her curiosity growing with each flicker of the candle flame.
“I loved him yes,” Kaoru said taking her daughter’s face into her hands.
“Than why is he not a part of our lives?” Kumiko asked trying to understand her Mother’s motives.
“Child, I wish I could make you understand.” Kaoru could feel the tears begin to flow. “The child I brought into this world was the spawn of a evil force, his existence means our Family’s destruction.
“Are there more lies, how about your Family?” Kumiko wanted to know everything and she knew her Mother thought she was still to young. “Please Mother I am a woman.” Kumiko gave her Mother a very adult look.
“Yes you are growing to be a very lovely young woman.” Kaoru half agreed. “But you are still only a child. I’m not sure if you are ready to know the whole truth, not just yet.” Kaoru lifted her daughter into her arms. She wished her mate was there, although she was powerful on her own but she felt much more safe with his powerful arms around his family, his only Loves.
“Mother, will Father come home soon?” Kumiko asked obviously wishing for the same thing. But Tsutomo would still be gone for months clearing his lands of unwanted youkai.
“Soon dear.” Kaoru said placing her daughter on her small futon. “Just of a far off land, where the birds always sing beautiful songs, and the flowers grow with colors more brilliant than the finest rainbows.” Kaoru smiled and stroked her daughter’s hair until she fell asleep.
Kaoru took her young son in her arms, little Yasu. Heir to the mighty Tashio legacy.
“You will grow my child, you will live to bring peace amongst human and youkai.” Kaoru kissed the sleeping child’s brow.
Morning would not come for a while and Kaoru still had not slept. She had a bad feeling and all she wanted was Tsutomo there with her and the children. Her thoughts of her love were interrupted by the sound of approaching footsteps. Kaoru quickly ran to the window and saw her Father’s vast army marching towards the castle. Leading the army was not her Father but the child she tried to kill.
“Lady Kaoru?” Youta called out sensing oncoming danger.
Kaoru didn’t turn from the window. “Youta, take the children and run.” Kaoru commanded, anguish over taking her senses.
“What’s happening My Lady?” Youta could smell her fear and was beginning to feel it also.
“Please Youta follow my orders and don’t look back.” Kaoru clenched her fist tightly. “I have to end this.” Youta wasn’t one to question Kaoru’s wishes so he did as he was told. First wrapping Yasu in a blanket knitted by Kaoru, it was rather large and came from the fur of his Father. Then Youta woke Kumiko, she was to tired to ask questions she just did as she was told. Staying close to Youta as he cloaked their scent and bodies from the army. They disappeared into the forest without looking back.

Kumiko walked alone throught the forest, a activity she repeated constantly. Much against Youta’s wishes. She found herself at a clearing and she could feel her heart skip a beat. In the middle of a vast field she saw the remains of a crumpled castle, in the place of Kumiko favorite wild flowers where the graves of soliders and old tattered flags. Slowly she walked through the old broken gates of the castle. Kumiko’s tears began to flow when she saw the burned remains of her old home. Kumiko had carried a bouquet of flowers with her. Slowly she made her way to a small area with a tiny tombstone. On it was a inscription:
Beauty and Power
She asked her mate Youta what happened to which he replied
“I disobeyed your Mother and didn’t kill the child she gave birth to. The child was evil and Kaoru new it. He returned with your Grandfather’s army in tow. Your Mother fought with all her might but was eventuality was over-taken by her own son.”
Kumiko knew Youta got all the information possible after it was safe to go back. Kumiko thought back when she asked about her Father.
“Lord Tsutomo learned of the attack, and thinking his mate and heir’s were killed, he attacked Kouji’s castle. Everyone was destroyed including her Father and Grandfather. Kumiko walked back to the hut where Youta and Yasu were waiting. Yasu had grown into a wonderful and energetic little boy. He was always full of questions about his Family, and his powers. Kumiko knew the demon blood in her young Brother was strong when he transformed into a form that resembled their Father in order to protect a village from a attack. Kumiko knew her brother’s blood would get their Family back to Taiyoukai status.
Kumiko was so full of anger Youta felt like he didn’t know he didn’t know her any more. One day Yasu just came out and asked Kumiko about her feelings.
“Sister, do you hate humans?” Yasu innocently asked.
“Humans destroyed our home, killed our parents. They are prejudice, evil creatures.” Kumiko said angrily. “I do not understand why you protect them.”
“Because if we didn’t no one else would.” Yasu argued. “Not all humans are like Grandfather.” Yasu looked away. “Just like all hanyou’s are not like Brother.”
Kumiko took her Brother by the collar, her eyes flickering with red and her beautiful gold. Yasu gasped for breath as his collar began to constrict his breath. Kumiko saw the fear in her Brother’s face and let him go. Kumiko turned to leave the hut.
Kumiko turned to her little brother. “That monster is not our Brother. Remember that.” With that Kumiko left the hut.

Kumiko stood before the man who gave her so much grief. Kumiko felt her blood boil looking into the hateful and familiar eyes of her Brother.
“You, you are the hanyou that destroyed my home.” Kumiko growled, her youkai blood beginning to take her over. She was powerful enough without her Father’s blood overtaking her. But she knew it was becoming impossible to withhold her anger. She thought about her family, her mate, her twin sons, her young Brother. She would see them again, she had hoped.
“Sister, you think you can defeat me. Even if I die, my son will come and destroy your Family.” Yukino proclaimed evilly.
“Hanyou, your family will grow weaker with each generation, you will be a affliction on humanity. Never loved never accepted, searching for a false power that my Family will pluck away. This curse will forever follow your descendants beginning with you.” Kumiko cursed Yukino and his Family.
“You dare curse me Woman!” Yukino yelled angrily. “You forget wench our Mother’s blood courses through my veins as well!” Yukino seemed to rise on a black cloud of smoke towering over a unflinching Kumiko. “Your family’s downfall will be love. Each of your descendants will suffer untimely death cause by their weakness. Love.” Yukino returned his Sister’s curse threefold. Using love as a downfall.
Satsuki let her demon blood overpower her and she completely lost control, her human side disappearing in the darkness.
Yukino watched his Sister’s transformation and instinctively began a change of his own. His arms outstretching his eyes glowing red, slowly his entire body changed to that of a giant spider.
‘I’ll never forgive you for being in Mother’s heart.’ Yukino thought to himself, his heart racing. Kumiko growled and lunged for Yukino. He opened his mighty jaws and they made contact.
“Kumiko, please understand.” Kaoru’s voice was small. Kumiko had the right to be angry and confused. She had a brother, and he was hanyou.
