Sesshoumaru listened intently to his mate, Satsuki’s story and he began to understand why his Father kept it from him. Inuyasha came up behind his brother and placed a understanding hand on his shoulder. Sesshoumaru didn’t look up. Although he hated the fact that his Father died for a human, he began to understand why. He would give his life for Rin just as Inuyasha would give his life for his miko.
“My blood contains that of a human woman.” Sesshoumaru said softly.
“Hey it’s not that bad.” Inuyasha joked.
“Hey does that make Sesshoumaru only half demon.” Kagome asked. Sesshoumaru slightly cringed.
“No Sesshoumaru is not hanyou in the same manner as Inuyasha. When the Tashio siblings were born from Kumiko and Youta the human blood became dormant making them full youkai.” Satsuki responded. “The Inu no Taishio embraced his blood, using the power of his Grandmother to win battles. But Toshi carried the hatred of Kumiko and banished the pure side of her blood, by killing as many humans as he could.” No one interrupted and Satsuki continued. “Toshi grew out of control and more and more powerful. Unwilling to kill his own brother Taishio used the power of his human side plus the power of his army, myself included to seal his body between the worlds of life and death.”
“Well then what the hell is he doing back here, and why is Kohaku working for him!” Inuyasha growled mentioning Kohaku send a crushing blow to Sango who was listening intently, holding Miroku’s hand.
“Naraku.” Satsuki began. “Have you noticed the spider on Naraku’s back?” Kagome had a feeling that she knew where this was going. “Naraku was born of Onigumo, a direct descendant of the Yukino Family.” The group gasped as Satsuki made the startling statement.
“But that’s not possible, Onigumo was human!” Kagome stated.
“Indeed Onigumo was human, his ancestor is the son of the human Rei and hanyou Yukino. Never again after the curse did the Yukino family mate with demons. They became bandits and fugitives. And with every generation the Tashio Family crossed paths with them killing them. Even you Sesshoumaru have assisted her Father in killing a Yukino heir.” Satsuki looked at Inuyasha. “Inuyasha you were to destined to destroy Onigumo but Yukino’s curse got to you first, when you fell for that Human, Kikyou. Just like your Father you met untimely death.” Inuyasha looked at Kagome, she wasn’t looking back, something was on her mind. “When Naraku was killed his soul could not rest trapping him between world’s. that was when Toshi saw his opportunity. He absorbed Naraku’s soul giving him enough power to break the seal and return to this worldly plane.” Satsuki lowered her head, her bangs shrouding her other eye in darkness. “I was the first to be attacked. Toshi used my Love for Taishio as a weakness.” Satsuki wanted Sesshoumaru to look at her, but he was to deep in thought. “He stole Yagi’s scroll and almost killed me, until I pledged my loyalty to him. He didn’t love me out of fear of Yukino’s curse he was just using me to his plans and as a vessel for his heir.” Satsuki placed her han on her stomach, thinking of her child and thanking kami it was Sesshoumaru’s. “Kanna was recruited before myself. Combining the powers of Kanna and Yagi Toshi brought Kohaku back. His soul could not rest without Kagura and Kikyou. Toshi fooled Kohaku and now his soul is lost in the darkness. Kikyou was completely lost, she was searching for Inuyasha’s soul she has no memory of her life and was given one objective, to kill the miko Kagome and Hanyou Inuyasha. She’d follow that goal to the end.” Satsuki looked over to Sango who was gently stroking Miroku’s hair. “Demon slayer Sango, your monk is fighting a internal battle.” Sango gasped and turned to Satsuki.
“What do you mean?” Sango asked shaking.
Satsuki felt sympathy for the group so much heartbreak. “Part of Naraku’s soul exists in this world as do the curse he bestowed upon the Monk’s family. He is fighting the curse in his mind, if he loses he could die.” Satsuki wanted to help. “You must stay by his side and guide him through his own darkness, don’t let him go.”
Sango nodded, “I understand.”
“Satsuki?” Kagome said. “What about Kagura, I thought she didn’t have a soul.”
“That is true but Kagura is also apart of Kanna, from her older sister Kagura was able to be revived.”
“But why, why all of this.” Kagome asked.
“The emotional attachment each of you share with the deceased.” Satsuki continued. “Kohaku to Sango, Kikyou to Inuyasha and yourself.” Satsuki paused. “And Kagura to Sesshoumaru.” Sesshoumaru finally looked up and turned, still refusing to look at his mate.
“What is Toshi’s plan?” Sesshoumaru finally spoke up, devoid of emotion.
“Toshi will merge this world with the feudal era. He will absorb the souls of his family and become invincible.” Satsuki said.
“Keh! If that’s true way did he bring Kikyou to kill me and Kagome, why doesn’t he just suck up my soul.” Inuyasha said, doubting Satsuki’s story.
“You and Sesshoumaru are not the only Tashio’s you know.” Satsuki quickly retorted.
“Do you mean, Yasu?” Kagome knew where this was going.
Satsuki smiled. “Yes after the the death of Kumiko, Yasu opted not to strengthen his demon blood, he married a human and had many children, with each generation the inu within them faded and died. The curse remains though. As they fall in love death soon follows. Toshi is absorbing the survivors blood, using the dormant power within them to increase his own.”
“What about Inuyasha and Sesshoumaru.”
“The souls of the two Brothers are much to powerful for Toshi to absorb. Especially with Tashio protecting them.” Satsuki said hoping to stir something more in Sesshoumaru.
“You mean Inuyasha and Sesshoumaru’s Father is protecting them.” Kagome repeated truing to understand.
“Yes, when they were born Tashio prayed to Kaoru to protect them from what the couldn’t protect themselves from. So Kaoru placed a part of Tashio soul within his two sons. No one can withdraw their souls living or dead.” Satsuki answered. “The swords weren’t the only gifts your Father gave you two.”

The night was long and after speaking to Satsuki no one said much of anything. Miroku seemed much calmer as Sango slept on top of him. Mentally guiding him in his battle. Kagome set up the guest room for her friends. No one could enter or exit the shrine because of Yagi’s barrier. There wasn’t much argument from them. They knew they were in danger if they left. All they could do was pray their families survived the onslaught. Satsuki stroked Rin’s hair till she fell asleep. It took Jaken no time to fall asleep, he didn’t notice Yagi curl up besides him. Kagome went to her room, although she wanted to be with Inuyasha she knew he needed to spend time alone with Sesshoumaru so the Brothers could gather their thoughts. Inuyasha took Sesshoumaru out to Goshinkobu to talk.
“Oi Sesshoumaru, you really didn’t know all that stuff about Dad?” Inuyasha asked as he sat besides Sesshoumaru on his favorite branch. Sesshoumaru didn’t answer, he was uncomfortable sitting so close to his hanyou Brother without fighting.
“Inuyasha, is this your home.” Sesshoumaru asked.
“Huh? Well I guess so.” Inuyasha answered puzzled.
“Why is it you allow us to stay.” Sesshoumaru continued. “Do you not hate your Brother. I’ve tried and almost succeeded in taking the life of you and your miko. Why do you welcome us into your home?”
“Keh shut up, we are Brothers baka!” Inuyasha growled.
“The miko Kagome has softened you heart.” Sesshoumaru smiled, sure not to let his Brother see. “I respect your choices Inuyasha.” Sesshoumaru looked at his Brother. “You are stronger than many youkai, and although you can not defeat this Sesshoumaru you are still a formidable opponent.” Sesshoumaru reached out and took his Brother in his arms. Inuyasha sat there wide eyed.
“Hey what the hell are you doing!” Inuyasha yelled trying to pull away from Sesshoumaru’s tight grip. Sesshoumaru quickly let go and Inuyasha nearly toppled out off the tree before Sesshoumaru caught him.
“We are no longer enemies, Brother.” Sesshoumaru said before gracefully dropping out of the tree. Leaving a awe struck Inuyasha in the tree alone.
Inuyasha watched Sesshoumaru walk towards his mate, Satsuki who was waiting by the entrance of the home. “Brothers not enemies.” Inuyasha said softly as he watched his family disappear into the house. Inuyasha didn’t stay in the tree for long when he caught a glimpse of his new wife in her bedroom window. Now was his chance to be alone with her and join in the youkai way.
