InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ New Journey ❯ 3 ( Chapter 3 )
[ P - Pre-Teen ]
Inuyasha and the group reached the Princess Miko’s home about a day
after leaving the village. They were a little nervous about meeting the
Miko for the first time, and Nari was worried for them. Her mom disliked
all types of youkai, and for a very good reason. Her mom wouldn’t like
who Nari brought, even the human members of the group, because they had
allied themselves with youkai.
As they drew nearer to the home of the Miko, Nari told everyone to
trnsform into their human form. She explained that her mom might not let
them in if she suspected that they were youkai. They agreed.
When they got inside the house, which was about the size of a small
village, they were greeted warmly. They were told that they woild be
eating with the Princess that night, and so they must get ready. They all
took baths, dressed in old-fashioned clothes that had been laid out for
them, and the woman got their hair done in elaborate styles.
The men were astonished when the time for dinner came around. They were
awestruck by how their women looked. Privately, each thought that his
own was the most beautiful. Kohaku thought that Nari was the most
beautiful, but he quickly stopped that train of thought. Secretly, the girls
admired their men as well. Not that she’d admit it, but Nari thought
that Kohaku was very handsome in old-fashioned clothes. She blushed.
The men came up to offer their arms to their respective ladies, Kirara
trailing along at Sango’s feet and Shippo at Inuyasha’s. Myoga was
riding on Kirara’s back. Kohaku shyly came up to Nari and offered his arm.
Blushing, Nari accepted it. Arm in arm, the pair walked into the dining
hall. Everyone else was already seated, including the Miko. The only
seats left open were two right next to each other. Koahu and Nari were
blushing as they entered the room, painfully aware of how everyone was
staring at them.
“Sit.” The Miko said quietly. “Sit and eat. We shall discuss why you
are here after dinner.” The group did as commanded. Everyone except for
Nari stole glances at the Princess throughout the meal. If she noticed,
she didn’t say a word.
Inuyasha thought that the Miko was very old, even though her hair was
only beginning to show signs of gray. It was her eyes and demeanor that
gave the impression. Her eyes were the same green-gold as Nari’s, but
the Mikos had seen so much more. They were the eyes of one who had seen
brutal fights, and suffered much. She was just about as tall as Sango,
and her posture was ramrod straight, as id afraid to slouch. She
radiated an aura of power and command.
When the meal was over, they sat and talked as servents carried the
plates away.
“I trust you know the basics of why you are here?” the Miko asked.
“They know Mother.” Nari said.
“Then you’ll undertake the quest?”
“We don’t know what that is, could you explain it please?” Kagome asked
politely.
The miko started to tell them all about the quest they would undertake,
to prove if they were worthy, and how much they trusted one another.
“You will have to find eight talismens. One for each of you. You must
combine them together in a grid so that all of the powers connect, but can
be used seperately. The quests are difficult, but only the person who
is meant to have the talisman will be able to pick it up. You will share
power, and lifespan, until you all weary of ruling. It will be
difficult, and I cannot tell you more. Do you have any answereable questions?”
“Yes. What do you mean by ‘sharing lifespan’?” Miroku asked, curious.
“Your group, and anyone that is included by family ties, starting with
you- moms and dads and brothers and sisters don’t count. They have to
either be yourself, your husband or wife, or any of your children. You
won’t be able to die as long as one you you lives. Old age will not be a
factor either. If you succeed, you will live practically forever.”
The group fell silent at this.
“Come. It’s time for sleep.” The Miko said, looking out a nearby
window. Everyone else realized that they were indeed tired, and they went to
their rooms to sleep.
The next morining, the house had been thrown into a panic. A youkai had
broken the sheilds placed around the house and was now attacking.
“Let’s go!”Inuyasha said imapatiently. “Let’s kill the youkai and get
it over with!”
“No!” Nari said. “The only youkai who have been able to attack us have
been mountain youkai, and they’re both big and hard to damage.”
“We have more of a chance to survive then the humans do!” Inuyasha
argued. “Why can’t we help? Tons of people could die!”
“I thought you disliked humans?” Nari asked, laughing a little, but
then her face softened. "You’re right. Those people need your help.”
“Feh. I just don’t want your mother to hold it agianst us.” Inuyasha
said. “Transform into youkai, everyone.” Everyone did without a second
thought.
“Kohaku, stay here and guard Nari.” Inuyasha commanded. Kohaku nodded.
“Let’s go!” Inuyasha said, and they went off in search of the youkai
who ahd attacked the house.
The staff were fighting a losing battle while trying to fight the
youkai. No one had died, but some were injured. That was when the other
youkai came in.
The other bunch of youkai came from the inner parts of the house, and
headed straight for the mountain youkai, shouting at the humans to get
somewhere safe. The staff refused to move until one youkai growled at
them and showed his claws to them. They needed no more encouragement.
Inuyasha was barking out commands.
“Shippo, distract it with that Multiply Spell. Koga, get it dizzy.
Miroku, keep it off balance. Kagura, Sango, Kirara, Kagome, and I will try
to knock it out so you can absorb it. Got it?” The others nodded.
Shippo was the first person to attack it. Shippo did his Multiply Spell
so that the youkai was ditracted from the others. Shippo couldn’t keep
this up for long though, and soon tired out. He was dragged to the side
by Kagome. Koga started running around it, making it dizzy trying to
follow his movements. Kagome and Inuyasha attacked it, blinding it first
with their claws, the attacking it on the opposite side from Kagura,
who was doing her Wind Blades Dance. Sango was attacking it wherever she
saw an opening with her spikes and posin. The mountain youkai was under
so much pain, it let itself be pulled into Miroku, who’s youkai body
was a void. It didn’t do anything until it was too late.
Inuyasha and the others were still transformed, and picking up the
pieces of broken glass ornaments that littered the floor, when Nari came
running up, with Kohaku-still transformed- behind her.
“My mother is coming soon. You’d better change back.” She warned them.
Not a moment too soon. As the last of the demon attributes faded from
the group, the Miko came running up.
“Where are the other demons? And the mountain demon? If it was
defeated, there should be a corpse.”
“What other demons?” Kagome asked, trying to play dumb.
“The demons that attacked the mountain youkai! One was said to have red
eyes and blue pupils, with purple stripes on it’s face! Another was
asid to resemble a calico cat. Another was a big billowing cloak. One was
vaugly human, but had spikes on it’s back. One was a large cat with
flames on it, and another was said to be a small boy, but he had a tail.
There were more, but I didn't get the descriptions. Did you see anything
like the demons I mentioned?”
“What would you do to the youkai?” Kohaku asked, trying to keep his
voice innocent.
“Kill them of course! They’re filthy youkai!”
“Why do you hate youkai so much? And after they got rid of the mountain
youkai for you?”
“They are probably planning to trick me.”the Miko said calmly. “Youkai
also killed my husband a few years ago.”
The group was shocked. Her husband was dead because of youkai? No
wonder she hated thwm! But, that still gave her no right to dislike all
youkai because of one bad enounter.
“What if we could prove that they aren’t?” Kagome asked, the first thin
lines of a plan forming in her mind.
“How?”
“What if…… what if you could meet them?” Kagoem asked. The others
gasped inwardly. She couldn’t mean……….?
“When?” the Miko asked, extremely suspicious.
“Now.” Kagome said, and began the change.
