InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ New Journey ❯ 19 ( Chapter 19 )

[ P - Pre-Teen ]
"Hello Totosai." Kagura said the next day, after breakfast. "What do
you have planned for us?"
"Raising mental awareness. You'll be able to do more with your swords
and control you attacks better. Pair off." Totosai said, and teh group
instantly fell into pairs. Kagome and Inuyasha, Koga and Kagura, Sango
and Miroku. Kohaku and Shippo had to pair off, because Nari wasn't
allowed at practice. Totosai handed each group a deck of cards.
"You will try to guess which card is which. These cards have symbols on
them, and they are a star, a circle, a square, and a snowflake. They
will help. As soon as you can go through the card decks and guess
everything correctly without fail, you may move on to bending spoons. To
start, concentrate on the card. An image should appear in your mind. Don't
worry if you get a headache. Everyone will at first, it happens when you
try to tap into powers that have been stored in your brain, but not
used. Begin." They all sat down, and took turns guessing what was on each
card. It was impossibly difficult, but Kagome was doing okay with it,
as well as Miroku. They had spiritual powers, so they had a fraction of
the mental power. Those two could guess the card symbol about 1/5 of
the time. The others occasionally got a card right, but it was harder
then it had seemed at first. They kept on practicing until lunchtime, by
which time the group was much improved. They were getting the card
s correct about 1/3 of the time. If they practiced for a few more
days, then they would have mental control. Totosai was pleased and shocked.
It had taken him a month to get the basics, but they seemed to have a
gift for it. He supposed it was because they were sharing power, so they
each ahd a fraction of mental control. It was all downhill from here.
It would be much easier to work from now on. After a quick lunch, they
went back outside to practice more. By the end of the day, they had
managed to get about half of their mental control down. they were guessing
about half of the cards correctly. It was draining them though, Totosai
could see it. They were all sweating, and they looked ready to drop.
Totosai called a halt to their practice.
"Get some sleep." Totosai commanded. As soon as they finished the
cards, bending spoons would come next. Then mental shields. After that,
moving small objects from one spot to another, then larger objects. Calling
them from great distences would also have to be figured in. Eventually,
they would learn how to move people, or themselves, places. They'd also
have to work on their mental endurance so they could work longer and
harder. If he had time, he'd teach them some mental attacks. they were
not neccessary, but if he had a chance after all the mental training, and
then the sword attack controls, he'd teach them. That he promised
himself.
The next day was jsut as exhausting as the first, but they managed to
get the entire deck of cards correct, not one mistake. Totosai was
pleased, and moved them on to bending spoons. It took almost four days for
them to get the spoons bent everytime they tried. Kohaku had the easiest
time with the spoons, and he got it the first day, but Totosai made him
practice with everyone else. He did, not even a complaint. They were
doing wonderfully, and soon they moved on. A few days later, they moved
on again. their progress was like a snowball, and they soaked up more
knowledge, and their mental powers grew by leaps and bounds. They
practiced for weeks and weeks on everything they had learned, finally being
able to do anything they wanted with their mental powers, they even had
more endurance. They were just about ready to bond mentally, so they
could find each other by their mental patterns. They each had a mental
'signiture', which basically means that they appeared as blots of co
lor when someone tried to locate them. Their 'signiture' also came out
when they used their powers, showing what they did as color whirls,
concentrated mostly where they touched or attacked the opponent. The
mental bonding would allow them to see the signitures nad find one another.
It would also be much the same as the bonding of the talismens, except
Totosai or Nari would be performing the ceremony, not Miroku. They
would also perform this one at night.
The night of the ceremony, everyone was properly washed, wearing clean
clothes, and sitting in the standard 8-pointed circle. They thought of
adopting that as their symbol, which they later would. Nari stodd in
the center, and the ritual began right at sunset.
"Bind these hearts, minds, dreams,
Between them, everything shall be as it seems,
Mental connections open to the world,
Now the secrets of their minds shall be unfurled." Nari intoned. (A/N:
Gimme a break, bad poem, onbly 2nd in a fanfic for me!) This was the
beginning, allowing everyone to see the others minds, and from this point
forward, anyone ion this group would be able to detect secrets.
"Bind these people, ideas, and powers,
Let them always know,
When one is in their darkest hours,
Allow help to come and knowledge to be known." Nari thougfht a little
on the origins of the words, and blushed. Similar words were spoken at
weddings, except it didn't actually bind people. miroku had come up with
the idea of using the wedding poem for the ritual. Wait! She thought
witha start, It has been more then a month since Kohaku talked with my
mother! Did he recieve the boxes yet? She resolved to speak with him
after the ritual.
"The spell is done,
Let it continue on,
Forever, as long as they live,
The spell is done." Nari said the last words, and a purple light seemed
to shoot from each person- except Nari- and connected them all. The
light grew brighter and brighter until Nari was practically light-blinded.
The light faded, leaving only a light radience around the participents,
the color of their signitures- which were the color of their swords.
Nari was so tired, so she stood and paced for a while until the group
woke up out of the trance-like state they had fallen into when the light
had shot from them. They all looked tired as well. Kohaku was walking
slower then the rest, which made it easy for Nari to catch up to him.
"Kohaku, wait!" He turned around and looked at Nari.
"Yes Nari?" He asked.
"It has been over a month. Have you recieved the boxes from my mother?"
Kohaku looked a little embarrassed.
"Well- yes...... but.........." Kohaku seemed lost for words.
"What's wrong? Don't you love me anymore?" Nari looked about ready to
cry.
"No!" Kohaku exclaimed, rushing to her and hugging her. "I wanted to
surprise you. Tomorrow, you would've found a blue box at the end of your
bed, and everyone would be ready to celebrate our wedding. I just
wanted it to be a surprise, that's all." Nari hugged him.
"I'm so glad! We'll ahve the best wedding tomorrow, I'm sure! What
time?"
"Around noon, so the cooks have enough time to make a proper feast."
Kohaku kissed the top of her head. "Well, it's not a surprise now."
"I know, but it's so much better this way!" Nari exclaimed. She
released Koahku from her hug and took his hand. "We must get some sleep.
Tomorrow's a big day. I assume the others know?" Kohaku nodded. She hugged
him again.
"This'll be the best wedding that the realm's ever heard of!"
