InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ New Journey ❯ 23 ( Chapter 23 )
[ P - Pre-Teen ]
They had been running for about 15 minutes when they found the exit.
"Over here!" Sango called, running through with Kirara. They ran all
the way to the house. Sango entered first, calling for someone to
help. She founs some cold water, and dumped the pitchee of cold water
on Kohaku's face. He woke up, sputtering, and instantly transformed
into a youkai. Just then the others arrived. Miroku was coming to as
well. He then groped Inuyasha, muttering Sango's name. Inuyasha
dropped him and hit him once. Miroku dropped back into unconsciousness.
No one was really all that sorry. Everyone was too worried about Kohaku.
No one really remembered that incident later either. Nari came running in.
"What is it? Is Kohaku okay?" Nari was frantic. Kohaku tried sitting up
and barely managed. He motioned for Nari to come towards him, which she
did. He hugged her and she hugged him back, being mindful of his wounds.
"Are you okay?" Nari asked him. He nodded. Then Kohaku asked for some
juice and food while the others asked for a description of what attacked
him. He instantly grew very serious. He told them that he had been attacked
from behind, but had gotten a glimpse of his attacker while he was falling.
It had been a man, enshrouded in blue smoke and not seeming to have a regular
form. The man's outline had kept changing. Nari grew very pale at these words
and excused herself to speak with her mother. They let her go, perplexed by her
odd behavior.

Nari was running down the halls, yelling for her mother. He was back..........
this was terrible. The Miko had to know. Finally her mother appeared, a concerned
look on her face.
"What is it Nari?"
"Mom........... he's back..... he swore he'd come, and he has. They won't get
their full year to prepare...... they had a month left and now they have to
go now!" Nari started babbling.
"Slow down, sit down, then speak." The Miko sad gentely, sitting down on a
nearby cushion and motioning for Nari to do likewise. Nari stopped talking
and slowly drew in breath. She slowly sat down and started talking once more,
at a less frantic pace.
"Kohaku could've died. He's back Mama. Rysuki swore he'd come back, and now he
has." The Miko paled at teh name.
"You mean..... he's really back? Do you know how he got out, and what he will
do?"
"No. Kohaku only caught a glimpse of him. He could've died ad it's all my fault.
Both of them were my fault."
"It is not your fault. No one will blame you for not killing your brother or
father. They are not your fault."
"But it is!" Nari said. "I could have killed both of them that night, but I let
them escape." She started crying. The Miko hugged her tightly.
"Shh... It's all right. They will understand. They will not place blame on you.
If anything, it is my fault for not killing them both immediantly."
"But you didn't know! I knew, I was strong enough. I just couldn't kill them.
Onigumo and Rysuki, my brother and father, are both my fault."
*Back with the rest of the group, after the Nari/Miko conversation*
Nari appeared in the doorway, tear-streaked face the only evidence of what had
transpired moments before.
"There is something I must tell you." Nari said quietly. They all watched her
as she crossed the room and sat down.
"What is it Nari?" Kagome said, moving aside as Kohaku pushed his way to Nari.
"Are you okay?" he asked her, kneeling beside her and hugging her close. She
brought her hands up and wiped her eyes.
"No, Kohaku, I'm not. I have to tell you everything. I haven't been completely
honest with you. I never told you about my brother or my father." Nari sniffed,
pausing for a moment in her speech.
"Really? You have a brother and father? How cool!" Shippo exclaimed, borrowing a
phrase from Kagome's time.
"No, it's not Shippo. Let me continue." Nari said to the kitsune in a weak voice.
Instantly the kit grew quiet. "My brother and father aren't the.......... nicest
of people. You might know a little about my brother. All I know about them is that
they loved to set intricate plots involving the death of unfortunate people who
stumbled in them. They were originally human, and my fatherw as human when I was
concieved, but that changed. My father and brother lived to darken and destroy,
but my mother and I lived to purify and protect. My brother had a little miko
blood in him, but he killed it, using some dark inner resources. He was a mere human
while my father grew to be a demon. He had his eye set on the Shikon Jewel, and he
would do anything to get it. He even sacrificed my brother but that didn't go as
planned. My brother nearly escaped with the Jewel. He had let himself be possessed
by demons." Nari took a deep breath and the group stiffened. That was strangly
like.......!
"Even though he had been bruised, burned, and beaten for this by my father, he
nearly won. My brother has hated my father and has been collecting the Jewel so
he can prove his worth to my father. They would have ruled the world together,
together in their dark castle. My brother's plan failed. He killed so many to
own that Jewel, but he was stopped in time." Nari looked at them. Exactly who
her brother was began to dawn on them. She slowly nodded.
"Yes, my brother was Onigumo. I could've killed both him and my father- the man
who attacked Kohaku today- one night, but I couldn't do it. I am the reason she
has no family other then Miroku and Kohaku." Nari said, pointing to Sango. "I am
the reason you and Kikyo hated each other, and both died." Inuyasha. "I am the
reason you were born and controlled." Kagura. "I am the reason your pack was killed."
Koga. "I am the reason you are not safe in your time." Kagome. "I am the reason you
were controlled and died." Kohaku. "I am the reason your parents died." Shippo.
(A/N: They died because of the Shikon shards remember? No Naraku, no Shikon shards.)
"I am the reason your family was cursed." Miroku. "I am the reason all those
villagers were killed, all those people died because I couldn't just kill my dad and
brother in cold blood. I couldn't purify them to save everyone. I had enopugh power,
I just wouldn't let myself. It's all my fault." Nari started crying. Inuyasha- the
first to get over his shock, started walking towards Nari, extremely angery. Nari
flinched at the sight of him heading towards her. What would he do?
