*The Miko's quarters*
"Nari, go with them" the Miko urged her daughetr. Nari was taken aback. She hadn't expected her mother to let her go, she had expected to have to beg or run.
"Why do you want me to go?" Nari was suspicious. Her mother always had a good reason for doing something. The Miko sighed.
"It is so that you may ascend to godhood with them. As long as you each land a blow on him, you will become gods. If not, you will die with time, and Kohaku will live with your memory forever. Land one blow on Rysuki's living body, and live." The Miko nodded gravely. "You must tell them, or else someone will be left out."
"What about Shippo?" Nari asked. Shippo's attacks weren't exactly solid........
"He must do this as well. His kitsunebi or Multiply Spell will be perfect. Beware, your father has more tricks in his bag then he ever taught your brother. He also has one weakness. Find it, exploit it, and win the battle. You have little time. One year, and that is drawing to a close. If you finish him today, you go on to become gods, if not, you go back to your ordinary lives, and Rysuki for an enemy." Nari gasped. How had her mother kept track of the dates? Now Nari could see, looking back, that it had been almost exactly a year after they had started training. They had very few days left over, only enough to make it to the mountain and back. If they won, they'd live. If they lost, they were as good as dead.
"We'll be careful mother. Don't worry."
"Remember the nature of the mountain to which you travel. Do not forget that! You may end up fighting yourselves, but not in any way that you may think. Remember that your father has the ability to make his illusions come to a semi-lifelike state. Most importantly, remember that love conquers all. It binds everyone in your group. That is the one force your father can't understand. Love, hope, courage, your father doesn't know. He is a coward that knows only the negative. Greed, fear, doubt, he rules over all. He is only as powerful as the doubt, greed, or fear in your hearts. You can do this. Go ahead and make me proud." The Miko reached out and squeezed Nari's hand. 'I may not be able to do this again. I have such little life energy left........ She may return, but I will not. Win or lose, I will die. I must tell her, but she must go.'
"Nari, I must tell you something. They are our last hope. Inuyasha, Kagome, Kohaku, Kagura, Koga, Miroku, Sango, and Shippo. You too."
"I know thi-" Nari started, but the Miko wasn't finished.
"You do not fully understand. I am dying. I will not survive to pass on my talents to another unless you return with the group within four days time. That time cannot be prolonged, unless you somehow found a way to keep my spirit from its final destination and found a way to let it live on without a body. Such a thing isn't possible. You must go with them. Do not stay here. They will bury me beneath the magnolia tree in the garden. If they don't win, your father will have not only won that battle, but the eternal war between us. He will have become the new god. Win, for me, for yourselves, and Japan's future."
"But- In Kagome's time, we have already become gods. We will win." Nari tried to console her mother in what would be her last days. She tried to keep a strong face up, but couldn't. Tears broke through. "It'll all be okay! We'll win, you won't die. You can't die, I thought that you were immortal......."
"Ah, but even a god's time must come to an end. I am near that time. I no longer feel the need for me here. I want to move on, and my body is giving me that, regardless of what state the land will fall in. Mourn when you get back. There is no time for tears on the road. I will not be hurt, I will just be moving onto what is rightfully mine, what no one should be denied. You and your friends will be truly immortal, feeding off each others life. They will even retain their youthful appearances if they wish. You as well. Remember all that I have said, and know that I will always be with you here." The Miko tapped Nari's chest, where her heart was. "I will live on, as long as you remember me. I will not see you again. Make me proud." The Miko hugged Nari in a short but fierce hug and motioned for her to leave. Nari turned stiffly, tears running down her face. The Miko's face was also wet. She would miss her Nari.
"Goodbye my Nari. Goodbye, my daughetr." The Miko whispered as Nari left.
"Goodbye my mother." Nari said very quietly as she exited the room.
*With the Others*
"What's taking her so long?!" Inuyasha grumped.
"She's slower then Mr. Mutt over there!" Koga complained. Inuyasha's head snapped over.
"What did you just call me, wolf?" Inuyasha growled.
"Mr. Mutt." Koga said nonchalantly.
"I am not-!" Inuyasha started, but was stopped by Kohaku's quiet whisper.
"Nari," Kohaku breathed. Nari was in a right state. Her kimono sleeves were all wet and her face was blotchy and red. She had obviously been crying.
"Nari! What happened?" Kagura asked, concerned.
"M- my mother......s-she's leaving.... I w-won't s-see her a-again." Nari broke down crying again. They could get no more then a few phrases off of her for the next few minutes.
"D-dying..... Living R-Rysuki...... hit h-him........ f-four days...... mountain........ love, h-hope, cou-courage, no h-hate, fear, gr-greed........"
"Nari, what's wrong?" Kagome asked gentely. "Take a deep breath." Nari did so, and it took her about three minutes before she could speak coherently. She told them what was happening with her mother, her father, and everything that she had learned with the Miko.
"It's okay. Shhhhhhhhh......." Kohaku hugged her and rubbed her back. "It's okay......... We've all lost loved ones, we'll understand if you need some time by yourself, or if you don't want to come, or if you just want to be held. We're all here for you." Nari sniffled into Kohakus' kimono, and it got steadily wetter. Kohaku didn't mind at all.
"He's right." Inuyashsa said, apparently forgetting his fight with Koga. "We are here for you. Do you still want to come?"
"Y-yes. It was my mo-mothers wish." Nari said, getting over her sniffles. She looked up at them, full of renewed determination.
"I want to get this over with. I may have ...... some time to spend with her before she...... before she........" Nari couldn't bring herself to say it, and broke out crying again. Kohaku kept comforting her.
*An Hour Later*
"We can go." Nari said. She was sniffling a little now, but not as much as she had done earlier. "I will mourn when I get back." Nari said, trying to smile, but not pulling it off. She looked up once more. Her eyes were now filled with a fire. "I want that...... male.... dead."
"We all do." Kohaku said. He, too, surveyed the group. "We can go now. We will all mourn when we get back." Everyone nodded, the girls eyes a little puffy. They had comforted Nari, then done a little crying of their own, which had set Nari off again. Shippo had also cried.
"Let's go."
*Mt. Noisulli*
"*evil chuckle*...... yes, please do come. Come and face who you least expect. The mountains' magic has merged with mine, and now it is a deathtrap. Just how well do you trust your friends?" Rysuki chuckled. "Trust? What an abstract concept. Come to me, like the lambs to the slaughter..........." Rysuki chuckled again. "Are you all ready?" Rysuki asked some figures over his shoulder.
"Yes, Rysuki, we're ready." A dog-eared one said. The purple stripes were attractive..... ecspecially on the dog-youkai's white face and even whiter hair.
"Like that'll be hard?" A black haired girl with cat ears inquired. "You ought to think more of us."
"Must I remind you that I am your creator? With the mountain's and my own magic, I have created you, perfect to the last detail. Cats, dogs, wolves, wind, chain sickle, boomerrang, bird, fox, all copies." Rysuki smiled. " She will face me. Kohaku, that boy, will watch helplessly as his beloved, 'Nari' attacks him. One of them anyway........."
"I will help you Rysuki. I am the daughter you never had." An angelic-looking demon stepped out of the shadows. Her eyes were a greenish-gold.
"No. You are the daughetr I have but that doughetr won't listen to me. Are you able to move easy and use your attacks? The sword replicas work, correct?"
"Yes, Rysuki." The 8 assembled murmured. Rysuki smiled.
"You will attack as they reach the summit. Their swords will deteriorate as the sun rises on the first day of the new year. You, my pets, keep them distracted until then. I will capture my girls soul in my jar here," he indicated a clay pot near him. "and I will transfer it into a body, after corrupting it. She will follow my orders, with none of this purifying junk my wife taught her. Be ready to move." Rysuki smiled as his dolls made ready. He couldn't lose.
