InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ New Journey ❯ 39 ( Chapter 39 )
[ P - Pre-Teen ]
They had reached the house. All ten of them. Nari, Kohaku, Inuyasha, Kagome, Kagura, Koga, Shippo, Miroku, Sango, and the Miko. The servents eyes widened as the Miko came inside.
"Ma.....am?" One asked. The Miko laughed and nodded. teh servenst were all in awe, not speaking for several minutes. The silence stretched on.
"Oh, stop that!" the Miko ordered. "Stop staring!"
"But...... you were dead, you came back from the dead......." one servent muttered. The Miko walked right up to him.
"But, now I'm very much alive, thank you!" The Miko tapped the poor man's head to prove her point.
"How?" Someone else asked. The Miko was about to answer, but someone else did it for her.
"She has duties to complete." Everyone looked at the person that had just made themself known. The person was actually just a soul, and was transparent. You could see right through, but the soul was body-shaped.
"Wha-? Why are you here?" Kagome asked, curious. The person smiled.
"I am here to talk. I will not do anyone harm. Do not be frightened."
"Why did you come down? I thought that you'd stay up in Limbo?" Kagura asked.
"I came down for one reason, and that is to speak with Inuyasha." Then, the person turned to Inuyasha. (Three guesses who this is! A/N) "It has been a while."
"Yeah, it has Kikyo. What does Kagura mean? Limbo?"
*Later*
After Kikyo explained about Limbo and what she did, she asked if she could speak with Inuyasha. Kagome agreed, sensing that Kikyo wouldn't do any harm.
"Thank you Kagome." Kikyo said simply. She drew Inuyasha aside.
"Yes Kikyo?" Inuyasha asked, tone neutral.
"I wanted to thank you. For putting my soul to rest. It helped. I have a long way to go before I fully atone for what I did while alive, but it's better to work now then to have to do this later, when I piled up more sins." Kikyo looked at Inuyasha for a moment. "You saved her life."
"What?" Inuyasha asked, startled. "How do you figure?"
"I had been planning on trying to take my soul 'back' from her. That act would have condemmed my soul to the pits of Hell. That was my original business being near your group, that day at least. You saved my soul, and Kagome's soul and body as well. Yet you feel guilt." Kikyo paused, waiting for Inuyasha to say something.
"It was my fault. If I hadn't met you........"
"Then this mess might not have started, and you wouldn't met Kagome. She might never have been born. If events hadn't happened as they did, then you would probably have been killed by now. It was destined, Inuyasha. My death, and sham rebirth, all served a purpose. If so much as one thing had been taken out of the equation, then....... everyone would be miserable."
"What?" Inuyasha asked, His mind had been in a fog since she mentioned Kagome possibly not being born. The world without her? "What do you mean, they'd be miserable?"
"I can show you. I don't know how to describe it, but you'd have to come to Limbo with me, for a short time, so that we could use the Mirror." Kikyo explained. "You wouldn't die, but it would hurt. You must anchor yourself to something, if you want to go." Inuyasha thought.
'They'd be miserable? But....... how? If..... If Kikyo can't describe it......' He looked up.
"I'll go. I..... I have to know." Kikyo nodded.
"I thought that you might. Stay here, I must speak with Kagome for a moment." (A/N: Sorry if anyone thinks that he wouldn't or if this story is getting weird. I just wanted to include this. If anyone doesn't want to know, then skip ahead to next chappie when it comes out.)
*Kagome*
"Kagome? May I speak with you?" Kikyo asked softly. Kagome jumped, then nodded, falling behind the others, who were heading to their own rooms so taht they could relax for a while, rest out the weariness they got from traveling back.
"What is it Kikyo?" Kagoem asked, walking with Kikyo away from the others.
"I offered to show Inuyasha the possible futures of everyone in his group now. It would set him mind at rest. He still feels guilty about putting me to rest when he did. He doesn't know if what he did was the best for everyone." Kikyo explained. "He'd have to visit Limbo, and to do that he needs an anchor. He has to anchor himself to you temporarily so that he can come. I wanted to know if you were okay with it." Kagome nodded, shocked.
'Kikyo is asking me....... for permission?' Kagome thought. Kikyo smiled, almost as if reading her thoughts.
"I have changed Kagome. My soul is almost at it's rest." Kagoem nodded.
"If it will put his mind at ease.......You can take him with you to Limbo, as long as he doesn't stay there." Kagome said, placing trust in Kikyo.
'Besides, he can't die. We're sharing lifespan now.' Kagome smiled at the thought. Kikyo nodded.
"Take his hand, and, whatever happens, don't let go! Remain in contact with him at all times." Kikyo said, leading her back to Inuyasha. Inuyasha stood there, watching them approach.
"I can go, right?" he asked, looking directly at Kagome. She nodded, then whispered in his ear:
"Just come back to me, alright?" She gave him a light kiss on the cheek. He pulled her into a brief, but tight, embrace.
"Don't worry." Kikyo took both of their hands. Kagome took Inuyasha's hand. They were forming a human triangle. Kikyo spoke a few words, then a bright white light shone from the trio. Kikyo completely disappeared, but Inuyasha's body was still there. Kagome hung onto him as best she could. She could still feel a little bit of his soul there.
'Probably so he can find his way back.' Kagome thought.
*Inuyasha and Kikyo*
"Kikyo, how far is it to Limbo?" Inuyasha asked.
"Not far. I'll show you what you need to know, but then you must go back." Kikyo was leading Inuyasha up a sort of passageway. It was glowing faintly purple, and they were almost at the end of it. Inuyasha could tell because he could make out a white light. Suddnely, he was in the white light. Both himself and Kikyo were being enveloped in the light. It flashed, and Inuyasha felt his feet on what seemed like slid ground. He opened his eyes, not remembering having closed them, and found himself in a room. He was in Limbo.
"Wow...." he said, looking around, his eyes seetling on the Mirror.
"I figure that's it?" he said. Kikyo nodded and went to the Mirror, Inuyasha following.
"The Mirror will show you what you want to know. To get out, just imagine being back in your body. As long as Kagome's kept by you, you will return." Kikyo said as she waved a hand over the Mirror. It glowed, then stooped. Kikyo left leaving Inuyasha to see the images of what his friends lives would be like.
*Kagome's life- about 20 yrs. old*
"Yo, get me another beer!" A man called from a table. Inuyasha looked at the rest of the images the mirror was showing him. It was a dark and dirty place. He saw Kagome appear our of a double-doored room, in a waitresses uniform.
"I'm coming!" She called, smiling that false smile she smiled when she was sad, or angry. She put down the glass if amber liquid and turned to go. The man pinched her thigh.
"Why don't you stay with me tonight?" Inuyasha growled at the stupid man. Kagoem slapped the offending hand.
"No, thank you." Kagome walked away, leaving the man to drink the rest of his beer.
/cut to Kagome's home/
"Kagome! Mom says to watch the shrine. And Bobby. He's starting to talk in full sentences now, and driving mom crazy!" Sota said. He laughed and went back inside. Kagoem sighed.
"Bobby! Mommy's home!" Inuyasha watched the mirror as it showed Kagome picking up a toddler. It was obvious that teh father didn't help them at all. Inuyasha was seething. 'How dare he.........'
"Were you a good boy for Grandma?" The boy nodded.
"Uh-huh!" Kagoem sighed again.
'I wish that he hadn't left us....' Inuyasha was surprised. He could hear the thoughs too. He found out that Kagoem had to work to support her mother, herself, and her child, and that teh father was alive but refused to help.
"Enough......." Inuyasha said brokenly. "Enough.........." He asked the Mirror if it could show him Sango. It did.
*Sango*
"Yo, get over here Sango!" Sango's father called. Inuyasha caught a glimpse of his friend, and gasped. Every surface on her skin was covered in horrible scars.
"Yes father?" Sango called, her mouth waving that scar over her upper lip.
"You are of marrigable age, and one clan has thoughts of joining our clan. They want my daughter and their son to wed. He is only a year or two older then you, so I agreed. Your husband is coming over tomorrow to look at you." Sango smiled. Some of her teeth were chipped.
*Next day*
"Where is my bride-to-be?" A young man demanded. Sango appeared, a long outfit covering most, but not all, of her scars.
"I am here." Sango said. The young man smiled warmly at her, but he was thinking.
'What?! This is what I am to wed to bond our slayer clans?' Inuyasha saw the mirror skip ahead several years, and he saw the same couple, a few years older.
"Idiot! I asked for warm water! This is lukewarm at best!" The same young man slapped Sango across the cheek. Inuyasha could see more bruises on his friends arms and legs.
"I-I'm sorry. I'll go draw and heat more water........" Sango looekd like she might cry, but that wasn't in her nature. Or was it? Inuyasha saw pearly white tears falling from Sango's scarred face.
"Enough....... enough, okay?!" Inuyasha told the mirror. It listened, amd showed Miroku's life. Or, actually, it didn't. Miroku wasn't ever born. Inuyasha couldn't believe it. The lively monk that he had come to accept over time...... gone? He asked about the kit. Dead, killed by the Thunder Brothers, shortly after Shippo's dad was killedfor not leaving teh mountain- looks like Shippo had tried to face the notorious brothers by himself. He inquired about Kohaku.
*Kohaku*
"Come on boy, can't you come with this time? You've refused to come on any demon hunts ever since you were old enough to." Kohaku shook his head.
"I can't......."
"Of course you can!" Kohaku's father said. "If Sango can marry someone, you can slay demons. You are coming on the next hunt." Kohaku nodded sadly. The mirror cut to teh next hunt, which happpened to be on a full moon. They had been hunting a spider-demon, much like the one Inuyasha himself had killed when Kagome had first learned of his New Moon secret. Kohaku had been injected with teh venom, not seeing it sneak up from behind. He died as well.
"Stop...." Inuyasha said. Three of his friends dead...... "What about Kikyo?"
*Kikyo*
"Sister.... what did this to you?" A younger Kaede looked at her sister, horrified. Kikyo had large chest wounds. She was dying.
"A.. A tiger demoness....." Kikyo coughed. Blood came up. Inuyasah watched with horror. He could remember that he himself had fought the demoness off for Kikyo....... but, in this reality.....
"Wa- Watch....... the Jewel....." Kikyo coughed up more blood, handing the Jewel to Kaede. "Make....... make sure...." That statement wouldn't ever be finished.
"Ma.....am?" One asked. The Miko laughed and nodded. teh servenst were all in awe, not speaking for several minutes. The silence stretched on.
