Disclaimer:
Now weÕll get to someone elseÕs point of view. And I know that most people out there donÕt like her, but Kikyo is going to be in this story. But get one thing: Kikyo will NOT go out with Inuyasha; IÕm a Kag/Inu fan all the way. SheÕs just in here to form a love triangle. And you all know I donÕt own Inuyasha.
--------------------
Kikyo stepped calmly out of her seat when Kagura called her name. She had been singing for years, so this was no big.

Reporters swarmed around the girl.

ÒKikyo Ikeda, you seem awfully confident. Do you think youÕll win this seasonÕs Nichuukan Aidoru?Ó

The young woman looked the reporter who had dared to ask her a question. ÒYes. I have been singing for fourteen years, and I have a very good chance of making it. Most fools who try out for this think they have talent, but with no professional training, they have no hope. I, on the other hand, have been trained by top notch voice specialists. I am fully prepared to win this competition.Ó she answered coldly.

After this remark, the paparazzi backed off, as most of their questions had been answered. Either that, or Kikyo was just plain scary!

Said girl pushed the double doors open and, shoulders back and head high, she made her way to the empty stage.

ÒHello. You must be Ms. Ikeda,Ó Kagome tried to engage conversation with Kikyo, but the young woman brushed her off like a troublesome fly.

ÒI will be singing, ÒDonÕt Tell MeÓ by Avril Lavigne.Ó Kikyo announced calmly.

ÒHow come none of the other contestants are like her?Ó Miroku whispered to Sango. (The judges were seated differently today.)

ÒProbably because they arenÕt as big-headed.Ó Sango muttered.

A/N: I do not own ÒDonÕt Tell MeÓ or ÒAvril LavigneÓ.

For the first time in her life, Kikyo was a little bit scared. Not terrified, but just nervous. She took a deep breath and began.

ÒYou held my hand and walked me home, I know
Why you gave me that kiss it was something like this and made me go oh oh
You wiped my tears, got rid of all my fears, why did you have to go?
Guess it wasnÕt enough to take up some of my love
Guys are so hard to trust
Did I not tell you that IÕm not like that girl
The one who gives it all away, yeah.Ó

As much as Kagome hated to admit it, Kikyo was really good. She just might make it.

ÒDid you think that I was gonna give it up to you, this time?
Did you think that it was something I was gonna do and cry?
DonÕt try to tell me what to do,
DonÕt try to tell me what to say,
YouÕre better off that way.Ó

Miroku clapped long and loud. ÒCongratulations, Ms. Ikeda!Ó Kikyo showed no sign of happiness, or any emotion for that matter.

ÒCome back on December 4 with this paper. We have given you time to fulfill the requirements. Have a. . . nice day.Ó Sango was cut off as Kikyo snatched the paper from her hand.

Kagome didnÕt say anything as she watched Kikyo retreat out to the lobby. Something told her this girl was trouble.
--------------------
Inuyasha stared into his coffee watching the steam unfurl into the air, then fade away into nothingness with the paper Sango had given him the other day. The piece of fancy parchment was lying on the coffee house table next to his elbow. He still hadnÕt opened it. His mother had been thrilled when heÕd shown her, but he had refused to show even her. Inuyasha wanted to open the paper at the best time and had decided that it was now or never.

With trembling fingers, he ripped off the tape carefully to preserve the paper, and to also keep his curiosity at bay. Printed in a fancy script, the letter read,

ÒDear Nichuukan Aidoru contestant,

Congratulations on passing to the next round of Japanese Idol! You must be very proud. Just remember that if you try your best, you can achieve anything! But the contest isnÕt over yet. We are asking you to prepare a duet with a fellow Japanese Idol contestant. Your duet must be ready by December 4 to be qualified for this round. The song can be either an original, or sung by a different artist. The song must have three verses, a chorus, and has to be five minutes maximum length. Please refrain from using multiple swear words, as this audition will be shown on live television. The dress code for this audition must consist of dressy clothing. Contestants wearing casual wear will immediately be disqualified. Again, congratulations on making it this far!

Best of wishes,

The Japanese Idol crew

Inuyasha sighed in frustration. How would he ever find another Japanese Idol contestant who was willing to sing with him? Maybe he should have just stayed home that day.

Just then, a storm of raven-black hair met his eyes. It was the judge from the audition, Kagome! He waved her over to his table, where she gladly sat down.

ÒHow have you been, Hirosawa-san?Ó the girl asked. Inuyasha noticed she had beautiful eyes that twinkled when she smiled. Her lips were like ripe, luscious crescents of papaya, revealing tiny, pearly white teeth.

ÒHirosawa? Hirosawa?Ó A hand waved in his face.

ÒHuh?Ó

ÒI asked how youÕve been, Hirosawa.Ó

ÒIÕm fine. Just reading over the letter you gave me.Ó

ÒOh. Have you found anyone suitable yet, Hirosawa-san?Ó

ÒYou know, you donÕt need to address me so formally. Not Hirosawa-san, Inuyasha-kun, Inuyasha-chan, and definitely not Inuyasha-baba! Just Inuyasha is fine. Or Inuyasha-sama is acceptable, too.Ó

Kagome laughed. A sweet, tinkling sound. Like church bells on a summer day.

ÒI think IÕll just call you Inuyasha for now. We can save Inuyasha-sama for when you become a big rock star.Ó she replied.

ÒYou really think I can do it?Ó Inuyasha asked tentatively.

ÒIt depends.Ó was her short, simple answer.

ÒOn what?Ó

ÒYou have to be willing to sacrifice yourself and your pleasures for what you really want. Becoming a singer does not happen overnight. It requires skill, poise, and an inner strength most people donÕt have. You can be the poorest man in the world and still have the potential and will to sing. You could be the Prince of England, and have the potential but not the strength to go on.
ÒAnd once you become a singer, the problems will not suddenly end. There will be even more. The paparazzi will stalk you, screaming fans will surround your house, rumours will be spread. Only a few have what it takes to truly become great.Ó

Inuyasha leaned back in his seat, obviously impressed by her little speech. ÒSo I might not be able to do all that?Ó

ÒOnly if you put yourself down and slack off. Being famous is not all fun and games.Ó

The boy fiddled with his straw wrapper, almost embarrassed that they were talking about him in such a way.

ÒOn a lighter note, what compelled you to be a judge for Nichuukan Aidoru?Ó Inuyasha asked.

ÒItÕs a family business, you might say. My dad was the judge before I was. That was how he met my mom, by the way. So about two years ago, he decided to retire early and told me I had to be the new judge. I was thrilled, of course, and it was incredibly easy to join the crew. Dad had already took me to the show several times, so I have been aqainted with some of the crew members since I was three or four.Ó

ÒNice. So youÕre a millionaire by the age of fourteen already?Ó Inuyasha asked, almost sarcastically.

ÒIÕm seventeen!Ó

ÒYou look so young, though.Ó

ÒPeople say that because I have such a small body build. IÕm really almost eighteen.Ó

ÒWhenÕs your birthday?Ó he asked, just because he was curious.

ÒNovember twenty-eighth. Thanksgiving. When is yours?Ó

ÒNovember twelfth. IÕm older!Ó

ÒYeah, by a couple of days.Ó Kagome playfully slapped him on the arm.

For the first time in years, Inuyasha noticed that he was actually having fun.

Was this what it was like to be happy???
