InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Night of the Elven Princess ❯ Night of saddness ( Chapter 2 )
Night of the Elven Princess
The moon was shinning brightly, as Kagome looked up into the dark night sky. It was as if it were mocking her, sitting there, twinkling merrily, while she sat down here concealed in her room. It had only been 3 hours ago when she had angered her parents and they'd happily sentenced her to her room. As she sat confined in her cell, she stared enviously at the moon and it's freedom.
"Where have you been mistress?" Nagasaki the butler had asked her. He, at the time, had seemed generally concerned. "The King wishes your presence in the chamber room."
She remembered ever so clearly the moment she walked into the chamber room to receive her unlucky fate, which placed her in confinement now.
"Kagome!" The King had shouted from upon the throne. "Where have you been and why where the chamber maids not aware of it?!"
"I am sorry your Excellency. I was out and forgot to make aware my status to the chamber maids." She had told him. She meant it to calm his temper, but it had only enraged him further.
"Have I not told you to always alert the chamber maids of where you are to be!? If you are to live in my palace I must be informed of your where-abouts at all times." He was practically banishing her before she had even the slightest chance in defending herself.
Perhaps, she had never really wanted to explain her actions, for when the opportunity arose she merely stood there as if frozen by the King's cold-hearted ways.
"What do you have to say for yourself Kagome?!" The King yet again boomed throughout the chamber room, but unlike the rest of his people, who would cower and apologize at the sound of his resonating voice, Kagome stood there, proud and unaffected. He did not understand the bond between Kagome and her beautiful horse Naomi, for that was what had made her so late. She was so sure that he would not, nay could not understand that she did not tell him.
"Since you have not provided a reasonable excuse for your lateness, I cannot give you pardon. You are hereby sentenced to your room `til tomorrow morning, noon." This time he spoke in a more refined voice, befitting a King.
Kagome was speechless. She had planned to spend the day training with Naomi. The next few days were more important to her than anything. The Great Competition was the day after next and she had to be prepared; the best riders would be there; and that was to say nothing of Inuyasha.
Kagome wanted to prove herself to everyone but most of all Inuyasha. He was her inspiration. He was bold, courageous, yet kind and sweet (sure he was a jerk at times, what guy isn't, but he had his moments, lots of moments) he was everything Kagome could ever want in a male. She had never been fond of the opposite sex, and was seriously considering abstinence, but something inside her seemed enthralled whenever she thought of him. She had to win that competition, she just had to!
Even though Naomi was a noble and mighty stead, she was not perfect. Kagome needed tomorrow to sharpen Naomi's strengths and weed out her weaknesses. Kagome would have to figure out a method of escape, half a day would not nearly be enough.
So here she was, sitting sealed in her room, which at the moment reminded her of a prison cell.
Sango, one of the chambermaids walked in.
Sango was Kagome's age and best friend in the entire kingdom. She had covered for Kagome that morning and knew of her feelings for Inuyasha. She was completely behind Kagome and her need to prove herself at The Great Competition.
When she walked in and saw Kagome greatly depressed it saddened her immensely.
"What troubles you so highness?" Sango chimed concerned.
"Sango," Kagome gave her a weak, defeated smile, "you know we are the best of friends and you do not have to call me highness or mistress or anything, just Kagome."
"Beg your pardon Kagome, but pray tell me what is distressing you so?"
Kagome told Sango all about Naomi, tomorrow, the King, being late, and as usual, she understood completely.
"Oh I am truly sorry Kagome! I did not know he would be so hard on you."
"It is not your fault Sango."
At that Sango smiled her devilish smile and then slyly whispered , "Well… how do you plan on escaping?!"
An awkward silence passed between the two friends until Kagome broke into giggles, "Oh Sango," Kagome exclaimed in a more cheerful tone, "you do know how to make me smile!"
"No Kagome, you misunderstood! I was serious! You will have a hand at something so I might as well assist you. Seeing as I do owe you for getting Miroku and I together."
"You must be joking," Kagome declared a tad bit exasperated, "The King would surely have a bunch of men guarding this very spot, they would all have arrows, and swords and…" Kagome began whispering her idea and soon to be plan in Sango's ear.
When she was finished, "Well, Kags that's ingenious but I don't see how I could help?!"
"Well Sango you could…"
"Of course! Yes that would work… All right Kags you've convinced me. I'll help."
"Thank you yet again Sango! I don't know what I would do without you! Well you might as well get some sleep, you'll need it for tomorrow." Kagome proclaimed while giving her life long friend an enveloping hug.
With that Sango left and Kagome went to sleep dreaming of ways to perfect her plan. She would spend the day with Naomi after all!
