Authors note_ this is my second fanfic attempt and seeing as there's always room to improve reviews are encouraged so here it is chapter two!

Kagome leaned against the rough bark of the shinboku, she could feel him watching her from the branches above and it made her feel safe to know he was there.

“he's always with me,” she quietly reminded herself. “Always.”

Inuyasha smiled to himself at Kagome's words, the thought that he brought her some feeling of security in these troubled times was welcome, when he felt he was so helpless to save her.

 

“Don't worry Kagome, I'll save you somehow. I swear it,” he thought.

As if sensing his thoughts Kagome looked up at him and smiled, it was not her usual brilliant smile, but for now it was enough. He welcomed any sign that she was returning to normal, if only temporarily.

Kagome smiled up at Inuyasha, she knew how troubled he was by her sudden change and she wanted to give him some small sign that she'd be ok. She knew what it was like to feel so much concern and be unable to help, she'd felt that for Inuyasha many times, but he always tried to ease her worry with some small reassurance. If she could return the favor, she would do it without hesitation.

 

She was brought forth from her thoughts by Inuyasha jumping down next to her.

 

“Inuyasha,” Kagome said quietly.

 

“hmm,” was his muffled reply as he rested next to her against the bark.

 

“I'm sorry if I've been a burden, it's just…” she stopped unsure of how to voice her insecurities.

 

“Keh, stupid. Your not a burden,” he said without gruffness, as he turned a partially lidded eye to look at her face.

 

She moved closer to him, resting her head on his shoulder, and allowing her eyes to close. “Thank you Inuyasha,” she said quietly as she drifted off to sleep against his warm body.

Inuyasha smiled as he rested his head against her hair, allowing himself to fall into a light sleep. Still keeping alert for any sounds of danger as he basked in her warmth and calming scent, the sun shining through the leaves and leaving dappled shadows across their bodies. These times of peace an comfort were the ones he cherished most and he hoped soon things would return to normal and moments like this would not be so rare.

Sango walked slowly through the forest, Kilala close at her heels in kitten form. Ever since their last battle things had been very tense, what with Kagome- Chan being poisoned and the scare of her depression and nightmares, no one had really had much time to relax. Inuyasha had been taking it the hardest of them all, not that they weren't worried it was just, things were different for him when it came to Kagome-Chan. Everyone knew how much he cared for her, even little Shippo had picked up on it, though he didn't fully understand the situation. Sango remembered how much Shippo had cried when Kagome-Chan had started getting sick, he was so distraught they all feared he to would become depressed. Thankfully as her condition improved he became less frantic, though he still cringed when he heard her cry at night.

 

The person who's reaction had surprised her most had been the hoshi, he had become more serious about his duties as a monk and was always trying to brighten the mood with a joke or wise words. She still remembered what he had said to her the first night after Kagome-Chan had gotten sick. He'd said “We all need to be strong for Kagome- Sama, If she's to recover she'll need all of our support.” She'd felt a lot of admiration for him at that time and made a promise to herself that she would follow his advice.

 

Sango continued walking until she reached the Shinboku and what she saw brought a smile to her lips. Inuyasha and Kagome were sitting together asleep under the tree, Inuyasha had an arm protectively draped in front of Kagome-Chan and Kagome-Chan had the first peaceful smile on her face that Sango had seen in a long time. She walked away quietly, silently beckoning Kilala to follow, so they wouldn't disturb the peaceful scene.

 

“Maybe things will be alright, she thought to herself as she walked back to the village, Kilala in tow to tell the others of the prospect of happy tidings to come, if the scene at the Shinboku were any indication.

And well, that was my second chapter I hope you all enjoyed it. I understand the atmosphere was a little different than the first, but I figured after such a serious first chapter a bit of bitter sweet happiness was just what the doctor ordered. Sorry that my chapters aren't very long but seeing as I only have so much time with school still in, you can't expect to much of me. I will of course try not to have to long of intervals between updates but with my hectic schedule I doubt I'll have one out every day. But on the bright side I may be able to lengthen my chapters if I have longer intervals between them.
