InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Nightwalker ❯ Drug ( Chapter 3 )
[ X - Adult: No readers under 18. Contains Graphic Adult Themes/Extreme violence. ]
You know, I've always wanted to write a vampire story. But let me get this straight. They are not vampires. They are nightwalkers! A different breed! I just wanted you guys to know that since a lot of people are calling them vampires. Personally, I never liked that whole, pale skin, wooden stake, coffin-sleeping genre. I mean the whole, afraid of the cross thing…not my thing. I wanted to create a story free from religion AND racism. I don't like how it's always, vampires are from hell. They are emissaries of the dark lord or whatever. I always go for the kind of mysterious, devilish, classy kind of thing. The differences will be stated in the fiction.
OH! And the summery of the story may be subjected to change because it's no longer a one-shot. This may or may not be the new summery:
Two brothers lead a revolt against the notorious Nightwalker King. Will their plans be compromised when one of them gets involved with a human woman?
Disclaimer: I don't own Inuyasha. He belongs solely to Romiko Takahashi and I won't be a thief and take credit for her genious.
Chapter Summery: No matter how much you try to leave, you keep coming back.
Part Three: Drug
Why was he so warm? His breath puffed against her neck and it made tingles run up her spine. His skin…was it always burning like this? Why was that? Weren't vampires, or nightwalkers as he said, always cold and pale? Yet he was so soft…and warm. It was so soothing. It made her eyes flutter closed; it made her dizzy.
Inuyasha felt her fall into unconsciousness seconds before her body sagged against him. That scent she carried was driving him mad. He had bitten her yesterday; another pint would definitely endanger her life, unless…
“Asleep?” He breathed, lifting her up in his arms like he had the night before. Her head rested against his shoulder. He could hear her heartbeat. It was slow yet strong and he could imagine the clear blood flowing through. Shaking his head, he growled and tried to rid himself of her smell. But the sweet sound of a human's heartbeat came to him still.
“Damn it.” He hissed, biting his tongue. “You don't know what a temptation you are.” He said, looking at her calm, sleeping face. He would admit; it did take him by surprise. He hadn't met too many women that would swoon at the sight of him. Scream perhaps, but not swoon. What a strange human woman.
“How unfortunate.” Inuyasha sighed. “If only you were dying…”
“Planning to bite her heart?” The silken voice entered the conversation. Inuyasha huffed, knowing full well who was standing behind him. Of all nightwalkers that were supporting his bother and himself, only Rukiya had the power to appear completely undetected.
“How long have you been standing there?” He asked as he turned to face the woman. Her dark eyes stared back at him.
“Not too long. I've arrived quite recently. I have a message. You brother was able to save the other girl's life.” She smiled, her fangs appearing in her gleaming, white teeth.
“And how did he manage that?” Inuyasha asked, skeptical.
“Don't worry. She's not one of us. Luckily, Shinobu didn't take too much blood from her.” Rukiya explained. “Sesshoumaru has taken her home. In a way, she was big help. This `Rika' was it? If it hadn't been for her, Shinobu would still be alive.” Rukiya smiled.
“Shinobu…I wished I was the one that killed him. That Sesshoumaru…well, at least another one of the Nightwalker King's flunkies is dead.” He said with a sly, yet devilishly gleeful look. Kagome's body fell a little. He lifted her up again. She wasn't heavy; he had just forgotten that he was holding her.
Looking back at Rukiya as she watched patiently, he asked. “ The others? Obviously Sesshoumaru is here with us. I haven't contacted anyone else. Who else in the city?”
“Natalia is still in Rome, I believe. Last she contacted me, she said she was looking through the equinox. She believes that Christiano is somewhere is Moscow. Kagura and Lilliana are in the city. Albier is in Sequoia. So that means that only five of us are here in Tokyo. As for the others, I haven't heard from them in a while. They will make contact eventually though.” Rukiya explained.
“What about that bastard?” Inuyasha grumbled.
“No news of his whereabouts. I've encountered a few drones, with the occasional enemy nightwalker like Shinobu. Unfortunately, none of them seem to have any information for me.” Rukiya said patiently.
“Hmm.” Inuyasha looked up at the moon, feeling its cold rays on his skin. He took a deep breath, his lungs filling with icy breeze.
So there were only five of them in the city. Who knows how many enemy nightwalkers were wandering the night. The Nightwalker King was clever. Sending drones to kill humans instead of his actual minions. Most likely their government would be noticing the murders. He just hoped that things stayed calm for another few nights. It was infuriating.
“Rukiya, do you think you can gather more information. And keep an eye on the humans. They've already begun noticing things.”
“Alright. Business aside, Inuyasha, what do you intend to do with that girl?” Rukiya asked. Inuyasha looked back down to the girl in his arms.
“The less she knows of us the better.” He said, looking back skyward.
“Do you really think she'll believe it was a dream?”
“Maybe, maybe not.” He huffed.
“What will you do if she thinks it was real?”
“Disappear from her life forever.” He looked away from the sky and back at Kagome. “I can't get involved with a human. Especially now.”
“Is it that you don't want her involved, or that you don't want to get involved?” Rukiya smiled knowingly.
“What are you implying by that?” Inuyasha hissed.
“Oh nothing. By the way, I thought you might like to know that there are human exterminators in the city now. Looks like the human government has taken action.” Rukiya sighed.
“Damn. It's bad enough we can't tell the difference between drones and nightwalkers from a distance, now we have humans `hunting' us? What a pain.” He turned, lifting Kagome up a little more.
“Taking her home?” Rukiya asked.
“Do you have another suggestion?”
“If there are human investigators in the city, that mark on her neck won't go unnoticed. She won't believe that the experience tonight was a dream.”
“And?” Inuyasha said impatiently, turning again.
“It's your decision.” Rukiya shrugged.
“And I chose not to get her involved.” Inuyasha huffed.
“Very well then.” Rukiya vanished into the darkness. Inuyasha knew he would meet her again in a few hours' time. He turned his attention back to the task at hand: getting rid of the human girl.
Inuyasha breathed in deeply, filling his lungs. He turned back to the body of the woman, lowering her to the bench. Rukiya took in a breath of air not far from his side as well, pulling her fangs out of her prey. She pulled the man's sleeping body and placed him next to the woman on the bench.
They had lured and unsuspecting couple into the dark shadow of the trees in the park. Rukiya had sunk her teeth into the man just as he reached to shake her hand. She was quite fast when it came to feeding. Fast, and thorough, which was why Inuyasha enjoyed hunting with her.
“That was refreshing.” She huffed, stretching. Inuyasha said nothing, looking at the sleeping face of the woman he had just bitten.
“We should go. They would awaken soon.” He said.
“Hmm.” Rukiya gave him a long, hard, piercing look.
“What is it?” Inuyasha scoffed when he noticed her expression.
“Nothing. You usually don't seem this crabby after you drink. Are you feeling all right?”
“I'm fine.” Inuyasha spat.
“Alright, alright.” Rukiya sighed.
Inuyasha cursed himself. Damn it. No matter whom he bit, her taste was still on his tongue. No other human seemed to satisfy him, even when he took more than a pint. His body seemed to refuse it. He didn't understand. Something was out of place with his metabolism. No matter how often or how much he had been feeding, he felt weak and thirsty. He hoped that what he thought was not happening to him.
Kagome awoke with a start, checking her surroundings. It was dawn, and she was back in her warm bet. Strange, she didn't quite remember getting home, or putting on pajamas. Getting off the bed, Kagome walked toward her window, opening the drapes. It looked as though it might rain later in the day.
A rush of images invaded Kagome's mind, a deep red hue coming to her cheeks. Last night, she was walking home with Rika, and there were three men that attacked them and…was it all a dream? What were the chances of dreaming of the same man twice? Either Tsuki was right and she needed a boyfriend, or Kagome was now involved with the paranormal.
Both ideas felt ridiculous to her. Kagome walked across her room and reached for the phone. For a moment, she wondered if she should call or not, staring at the receiver in her hand. Finally, she dialed the number and waited.
“Hello?” It was Rika's voice. So maybe it really was a dream, if she was alive.
“Hi, Rika, it's Kagome.”
“Oh I'm so glad that you called. I had the scariest dream!”
Kagome froze. “What was it?”
“You and I were walking home after studying, when I ran ahead and this really hot guy starts biting my neck like a vampire and…that's all I remember.”
Kagome almost dropped the phone, her hopes shattering. There was no escape. It was all truly real. The man coming into her room the two nights before, appearing and killing two people in front of her eyes afterward. What should she do? Should she go to the police? Would that accomplish anything? What would they think if she said that she knew that “drones” were responsible for the weird deaths in the city and that two nightwalkers killed the drones? They would think she was a lunatic!
“Kagome? Are you still there?”
“Huh? Oh, Rika, I don't think I'll be with you guys today, I'm not feeling well. Don't worry; it's just a cold. I'll see you later, bye.” Kagome hung up.
So if everything was real, that must have meant that her nightwalker friend, Inuyasha, brought her home. Kagome looked down. He must have changed her clothes too. Her face heated. “Oh that jackass.” She hissed.
Slowly, she made her way back to the window. People would think she's crazy if she went off talking about bloodsuckers. No, Kagome made a resolution to never speak of it. As far as she was concerned it was a dream. She didn't want anything to do with that world. No murders, or bloodsuckers, or shockingly handsome men with golden eyes.
Kagome shook her head. No! She was not apart of that world. She walked through to her closet, opening it, and changed into clothes for the day. Pulling a long jacket on herself, Kagome reached for her keys and headed to the door.
Kagome stopped for a moment and stared at her key as she locked her apartment entrance. How did he get inside this time?
“Oh, Kagome. Good morning. You're up quite early.”
Kagome turned and looked down somewhat at her landlord. She was a sweet, elderly lady that ran the apartment building with her husband. Her face was sagging slightly, and she was a plump, short woman who kept her hair in a bun, now that it was too silver to style.
“I didn't see you come in last night. It must have been quite late.” The landlord said.
“Well, I did spend a lot of time in the library.” Kagome smiled politely.
“Oh dear. Please promise that you will be careful. There's a lot of danger to be walking around at night nowadays. Especially for a cute girl like yourself.” The landlady remarked, smiling yet her voice and eyes full of worry.
“Oh, I'll be sure to keep that in mind.” Kagome said truthfully, now that she knew that the murders were real. “I'll see you later.” She waved to her landlord and, pulling her jacket closer about herself, headed out of the building.
It was a slow morning. After buying some coffee, Kagome headed for the train station. Maybe a bit of fresh air would help her clear her head. She waited at the deserted station watching the white, cloudy sky as she sat on a bench.
“Looks like it might rain.” Kagome said, looking at her watch. Finally the screeching sound of the train stopping came to her. No one came out of it for it was too early. Kagome watched as the doors slid closed behind her. After a few stops and a few more passengers, Kagome walked out of the train at the last block, miles away from the city.
Sesshoumaru stood atop the building, waiting. The wind danced around him, pushing his hair and coat to make them dance. The sounds of cars assaulted his ears. “How unfortunate, it's a bright moon and yet the disgusting stench of car exhaust fills the air.” He murmured.
“Humans don't know how to get around. They have legs, so why don't they use them?” The voice of his brother commented from behind him. Sesshoumaru smirked, placing his hands in his pockets.
“Where's the kitten that you picked up a few nights past?” Sesshoumaru sneered, turning to face his brother's pale and irritated face.
“Gone.” Inuyasha hissed. “She's not apart of this.”
“If she were dying, would you have made her a part of this?”
“Drop the subject!” Inuyasha hissed.
“Looks like it might rain again tonight.” Sesshoumaru answered, looking at the looming, purple clouds in the sky.
Inuyasha sighed. At least the conversation about Kagome had ended. Looking at the moon he asked, “Why have you called me here tonight? I thought you said you were going to Rome to meet Natalia. Having second thoughts?”
“I've spoken with Rukiya. She says that Natalia will stay through the autumn equinox. However, that's not the reason I've called you here before I leave.”
“Then what is it?” Inuyasha asked impatiently. The moonlight shined over his brother's scrutinizing features, making him more radiant and cold then usual.
“I know you've been hunting. Rukiya has had some interesting comments about your…feeding habits, shall we say.”
“And what are those?” Inuyasha asked skeptically, but his heart has bounced in its beat.
Sesshoumaru narrowed his eyes. “Something's wrong with you. Every time you bite someone you don't seem to be fulfilled. You're running slower and you seem even more tired. Your skin in getting paler… that means that you must be low on blood. Why is that, Inuyasha? I know you've noticed it.”
Inuyasha huffed. “It's nothing, alright? So a few humans didn't fit my tastes. It's not like I'm starving myself.”
Sesshoumaru walked up to Inuyasha, looking into the dull gold of his eyes. He knew he was lying. It was apparent in the faded color of his skin. “You have always been the liar. There is something wrong with you. Who was the last person that you bit that seemed to have an effect on you?”
Inuyasha growled, recalling that night. “I don't remember.” He said.
“It's that woman, isn't it? No one else seems to satisfy you. I'm correct, am I not?” Sesshoumaru crossed his arms.
“No.” Inuyasha insisted.
“You fool. You bit her more than once!” Suddenly Sesshoumaru clenched Inuyasha's throat, pulling his brother into the air.
Inuyasha's eyes widened for a second, then he hissed and slapped his brother's hand away, jumping back across the building and placing a good distance between them as he breathed in. It was rare that they would argue. When it did occur, it wasn't a pretty sight to uphold.
“The hell are you doing you bastard!” He growled.
“A nightwalker never bites the same person twice! You know that law!” Sesshoumaru growled in return.
“Of course I know that, you chit! It was our bloodline that made that law!”
“And you chose to disobey it.”
“I have disobeyed nothing! I never bit her more than once!” Inuyasha snarled. Sesshoumaru widened his eyes. Suddenly he no longer carried any hostility and looked upon his brother in awe. “No. You couldn't have developed…this is not good.”
“It's nothing okay? I've just bitten the wrong people.” Inuyasha huffed.
Sesshoumaru straightened, no longer intending harm on his brother's person. “For your sake, I hope it is. If you formed an dependence while we nightwalkers are in the middle of this war…”He growled, but left his sentence unfinished.
“I'm not addicted to some stupid human!” Inuyasha denied, anger clearly written on his face.
“I hope that's the truth.” Sesshoumaru growled.
Kagome sat in the middle of the park. Three weeks and her life had fallen back into its ordinary balance, give or take a few differences. She watched the children play in on the slides in the distance. The day after she had seen him for the second time, Kagome had gone out of the city for a few hours. It was now becoming part of her daily routine to spend more time outside.
She made sure to be home before dark. After meeting with Rika to study again, Kagome had noticed the faded bite mark on her friend's neck. It seemed Rika didn't pay any attention to it, just as Kagome had when she had thought the experience a dream.
Kagome sighed. The murders in the city were not ending. She had a fading suspicion that her nightwalker acquaintance may have been the cause of it. She knew that there was more than one of his kind wandering around. No matter how she had convinced herself that she was not apart of that nighttime world, Kagome couldn't help wondering what they were to gain from killing people?
Despite herself, Kagome's mind seemed to circle around one question. No matter how many times she told herself that this chapter of her life was closed, she couldn't help asking: why her? Why had he been so interested in her: the girl who could never even get a date in high school.
Kagome knew that she was plain. She wasn't pretty. Everyone said that she was normal looking. She was thin for her age. Her doctor always said that she was five pounds underneath the normal weight. Her face was simple. No blemishes, but nothing extraordinary. She was short, her skin was a pale, ghostly white, her nose was always red, her hair was a flat string, and her lips were thin. The only thing that people commented on was the strange color of her eyes. Her mother always wondered where she had gotten those sapphire colored orbs. Many people accused her of wearing contact lenses. Why would such a beautiful and deadly person have interest in her? She wasn't physically attractive in the least.
Something wet hit her nose. Kagome looked up to see that a light drizzle had started. It had been raining a lot recently, being the middle of autumn. Kagome looked at her watch. It read five-fifty. Kagome jumped from the bench. It had been so cloudy that she hadn't realized how late it was!
“Oh crap!” She rushed to gather her books. Looking across the playground, she noticed that the mothers had begun calling their children back. Sun set was in about fifteen minutes or so. There was hardly time to waste if she wanted to get home before dark.
Rushing across the park, Kagome managed to cross the street while the light was still green. Unfortunately, she was a bit too late to catch the bus that led back to her neighborhood. “Crap. I have to walk.” She whined, rainwater dripping down her chin.
It was getting darker and the rain was getting stronger. Kagome cursed at her rotten luck but continued on her way home, hoping that she wouldn't run into anything out of the ordinary. A few cars were winding up and down the roads, splashing water as they did, so she didn't feel too lonely walking through the night. Her eyes followed a red Volkswagen as it whooshed up the street.
A bump and then a swish and Kagome found herself on the ground, rubbing her behind. “Watch where you're going!” Came a voice from above her. Kagome looked up at the girl she had accidentally assaulted. Standing, she huffed with narrowed eyes, “Well, sorry.”
“Humph.” The girl turned and began walking away, her black umbrella behind her. Kagome saw her round a corner as she continued her way. Sighing, Kagome turned in the direction the girl was headed, coming to cross the corner that the girl had just turned.
A scream. Kagome's heart skipped a beat. `Please.' She whispered in her thoughts. `Please let it be a hallucination.” Reluctantly, as Kagome turned her head, she saw the same girl, her umbrella fallen to the side, lying in a puddle of some gleaming copper colored fluid. It was blood. The girl's chest was heaving as her pleading eyes latched onto Kagome. Kagome shook violently. In seconds, the girl was dead.
Kagome backed away slowly then broke into a run as she rushed toward her neighborhood, the terrible image in her head. The farther away she got from the girl's corpse, the darker and less inhabited became her surroundings as the rain drenched her clothing. Soon she became faint and stopped to breath, holding into the glass of the store window next to her.
The car that was parked up the street began howling as its signal echoed through the lone buildings. Kagome jumped a few steps back then exhaled a sigh at the false alarm, but then, it started.
Inches away from her the concrete suddenly became cracked. A curse, a groan and then dark mist erupted from the street. Kagome straitened as the dust cleared.
Two figures emerged from the smog. One was standing across the street, poised and ready for attack. The other was kneeled in an injured posture, a deep dent in the car that he was leaning against. Kagome slowly made out the body of a woman who was standing across the street.
“My, my. So this is one of the famous original members of the house of dog? I'd have thought you would provide a challenge. How disappointing.” Her voice was low and deathly musical.
“Shut up, wench.” Her opponent answered. Kagome saw him rise, her heart thumping. “You haven't seen the least of what I CAN DO!”
Before Kagome had realized it, the man had lifted the car that he had been using for support and hurled it across the street at the woman. The woman's eyes widened and she jumped high into the air as the car crashed into the building behind her, rubble falling from around it.
In seconds, the woman had appeared behind her opponent. In the darkness, Kagome could barley see her outline as she hooked her arm around his neck, chocking him.
“Is that all of your pathetic little display?” She laughed. The man grabbed her arm, twisting it and threw the woman into the air. Moments later he jumped and hit the woman hard in the stomach. She fell to the ground with a hard thump.
Rising, the woman charged at him, and Kagome, watching mesmerized, barely saw the attacks anymore, only flashes as the two enemies assaulted each other. Before long, the man fell to the ground with a loud thud, and the woman landed gracefully on her feet a distance away.
“You…bitch.” He hissed, panting with pain, as he rose to a sit.
The woman laughed heartily. “I knew you would come out after your toy.” She spoke.
“What are you talking about?” He growled.
“Look there.” The woman pointed at Kagome. Realizing her mistake, Kagome cursed herself for not once taking the chance to run!
“I herded her into this area. As expected I ran into you here, soon after. So what do you say little girl? Care to become my tasty treat tonight?” In an instant she was in front of Kagome, reaching for her neck with her tongue touching her fang as it lengthened in her mouth.
Gathering her wits, Kagome slapped the woman as hard as she could across the face and tried to flee, but the woman grabbed her wrist and hulled her back.
“You cretin! I'll kill you!” She hissed.
Kagome closed her eyes, her heart beating a thousand times per second, the imminent swish of an attack came to her ears and then a loud scream following it, a scream filled with pain. Gasping and then opening her eyes, Kagome felt the woman let go of her wrist.
Suddenly, the woman fell to the floor. Three large, striped gashes of blood on her back. The skin was ripped open showing the red muscles and yellow bones underneath. Kagome's eyes widened and she was speechless with fear as she walked away from her and looked beyond her to see the attacker.
Inuyasha's hand dripped with his victim's blood as he stood inhaling quickly. To Kagome's amazement, the woman stood wobbling and hissed, “This is not over. Uhh!” Then she was gone, fleeing into the darkness.
Inuyasha fell on his bottom; his hand reached for the opposite shoulder and held what Kagome saw to be a large open wound. She gasped at the grotesque sight.
“Why is it,” Inuyasha hissed through clenched teeth, his voice filled with pain, “that I find you in the middle of these things?”
Kagome tried to leave, but she found that she couldn't take another step. Turning back to face him again, she pushed a lock of dripping hair behind her ear and walked to where he was sitting.
“Are you alright?” She asked, getting close to him.
Instantly he hissed and jumped a few feet away from her, baring his teeth, his eyes a deep and threatening red. “Stay away from me!” He snarled, his voice low and full of warning.
Up close, Kagome could see it. A line of deep crimson was leaking from his crown to his jaw, mixing with the rainwater, his shoulder was cut, and there was a deep gash into his skin. “You're injured.” She said.
“I'll heal.” He spat. “Now leave!”
Frowning, Kagome began walking away when he called her back. “Wait a minute.”
She spun around, angrily. “First you tell me to leave, and now you ask me to wait!” She yelled.
Inuyasha closed the distance between then, standing in front of her. “That bitch said something about `herding' you here?” Kagome froze, thinking about that girl she had seen dying before she ran.
Seeing her pale reaction, he growled. “They know…damn it.” He whispered, looking skyward.
“What are you talking about?” Kagome said nervously.
Out of the corner of his eye, Inuyasha looked over her. She was looking down, her fist to her chest. The rain that had drenched her hair as it leaned slick against her face made her seem like an ivory statue, her alabaster skin glowing in the dark. “Who are they?” She asked. He said nothing. Getting irritated, she reached to tap him. “Hey are you listen-”
Her scent. His eyes widened and he jumped away from her, huffing. “What's wrong with you?” She grumbled.
That smell. It was driving him mad. His fists clenched and he bit his tongue. The blood was rushing through his body; he could feel it pulsing. He clenched his teeth, breathing in deeply, but that was a mistake as her scent slid into his nose. His fangs grew in response to it! Closing his eyes, he tried not to concentrate on the smell.
Kagome came closer to him, unable to keep herself from worrying. `No, stay away!' His rational mind screamed.
“Why do you come near?” He said through narrowed eyes. “I could easily kill you with one strike.”
“Well, you didn't answer my question.” Kagome said, watching as he panted, his breath coming out like hot mist in the cold rain.
“Are you alright?” Kagome asked, her nervous heartbeat sending its harmonious song into his ears. `To hell with it!'
He grabbled her, his fingers brushing the back of her neck softly and his other arm circling around her lower back, pulling her close and making her breasts push against his chest. Before she could react, he plunged his teeth into her soft flesh. The blood ran like pure ecstasy down his throat. He closed his eyes, feeling the warm wine soothe him.
Kagome opened her mouth in a silent scream as her eyes widened. Her skin burned from where he bit her. Electricity ran through her body as she felt his hands slide across her back provocatively. Why was he always burning, like his skin was on fire! His fiery warmth blazed her clammy, rain-washed skin. White erupted in her sight, before her eyes blurred and everything went black.
Inuyasha pulled his teeth from her, taking his first real breath of air in days. She slumped in his hold, and he held her close to him to keep her from falling. His eyes widened as he realized that he had done. Never bite the same person twice. The very law that his family created and he had broken it.
“One hundred percent blood compatibility? Damn. The forbidden fruit and I took it.” He whispered, looking down at her sleeping face. “He was right: I am addicted.”
All right, let me explain something. I am SO sick of fan fictions speaking about Kagome like she's some magnificent beauty. I have to admit that I've done it too, but I try not to dwell too much on that fact. In this story Kagome is plain. She's not really pretty, but not completely ugly either, more like a balanced in between. She's not the model type beauty, more like the cute, button-nosed kind of girl. She looks better at night.
I REALLY hope that I have lived up to the other chapters. I don't know who it was but someone said, “YEAH, make him bite her again,” in a review. So in the end, I did. I was intending to do it anyway. ^_^ Anyway, tell me what you think, and please be nice! I
