Nigousan

I do not lay claim to Inuyasha and company. Those rights are reserved for Rumiko Takahashi and VIZ.

“I, Inuyasha Inoue, take you, Kikyou Yamada, to be my wife. To respect you in your successes, to help you cope with your failures, to care for you in sickness, to cherish you in health, to nurture you and grow with you throughout the seasons of your life.”

Strong fingers slipped a diamond encrusted eternity band over the slender, manicured fourth finger of the bride's left hand.

“And I, Kikyou Yamada, do take you, Inuyasha Inoue, to be my husband. To love and cherish the times I have with the wonderful man you are.”

The bride returned the gesture, sliding a sturdy, dark gray titanium ring on the man's finger.

The justice smiled. Rarely had he seen a couple emanate such love and happiness as the one before him. He could only hope they would weather the other side of their relationship as well as they were handling the one presented before him now.

“If there are no objections then I pronounce you both man and wife!”

Inuyasha leaned in and captured his wife's lips in a chaste, but loving, kiss. He couldn't believe Kikyou finally agreed to marry him. To him, their 12 year age difference meant nothing, but it worried the fashion editor to no end. She worried her colleagues would think her `trendy' or simply having a sort of mid-life crisis, and not serious about the young writer/historian.

When he raised his head and glanced out at the hall full of people containing friends, what little family he had in comparison to Kikyou's large traditional family, and co-workers, the majority were smiling. One exception stood to his right in the room. His half brother, Sesshomaru Taisho. Looking at the stoic man, Inuyasha felt the urge to twist the forelocks of his hair, his finger actually traveling to his collarbone before he remembered Kikyou insisted the long locks be cut for the ceremony. While he complained it would just grow back, Kikyou couldn't stand for the groom to have longer hair than the bride. So, his obsidian locks were cut in a fashionable short style with his bangs slicked back from his face.

It has taken the full two years of the couple's courtship for Inuyasha to convince Sesshomaru that Kikyou was the one he wanted to spend his life with. It was hard for the independent and worldly woman to understand that a wedding could not take place unless the eldest in Inuyasha's family approved. Harder still for her to agree to the papers that had to be signed before the marriage could be consummated.

The other exception to the smiling faces stood in the far back of the room on the bride's side. Nineteen year old Kagome Higurashi kept her back to the wall and stared at the newlywed couple with little interest. Her blue-black hair was pulled into a messy bun, tendrils escaping to frame wide blue eyes and slightly chubby cheeks. She was dressed casually, but neatly, in a peach cotton dress and flats.

Inuyasha couldn't blame her for frowning. In two weeks, her life would change dramatically. She would go from carefree college student and part-time shrine maiden, to living under the same roof as Kikyou and Inuyasha. In two weeks, Kagome would become Inuyasha's nigousan; his mistress.
