Disclaimer: I do not own Inuyasha or any of its characters… I also wish I did, but do not own Death Cab for Cutie and their song “Lack of Color.”
Warning: Language… Inuyasha has always liked to curse.
A/N: I was listening to this song and came up with this for a song-fic. My first.
No Color Without Kagome
Inuyasha was angry. Well not just angry. There were a whole bunch of other feelings that he never got to convey and were trying to burst out of him at this very moment. But angry was good… he'd just leave it like that around everyone at Kaede's. No use being a sissy in front of everyone else right? Just because they were crying didn't mean he had to.
Shit. He had to get away from them.
He started walking in no particular direction, just away. Bitch just had to go and make a stupid wish on the stupid jewel. They had finally defeated Naraku and she went and made a fucking wish without even discussing it with him first.
All he could remember about the last time he saw her was that they were fighting about Kikyo again. If she fucking would stay and listen to him, maybe he'd be able to tell her that he wanted to just put Kikyo to rest. He couldn't do that now.
At first he thought when she ran away from the fight, she just ran home like usual. But when he tried to jump in the well, it was filled with water and he was soaked when he hit the bottom.
No Kagome.
No way to get to Kagome.
He screamed for hours. That's how Sango, Miroku, and Shippou found him. Soaked, screaming and trying to dig out the water.
They had to drag him back to the village.
He of course did not know what wish she made, all he knew was that she wasn't here now, so she must have wished herself far away.
Probably back to her time.
Stupid wench.
Always wanted to go back there at the most inopportune times. What the fuck was so good about that time anyway? It stank, it was noisy, and it was too loud.
But now it has Kagome.
He kicked a large, funny- looking black rock on the ground. When did she become so fucking important anyway? He'd always seen her as the shard detector. Maybe that was a problem. Maybe that was why all these emotions fucking wouldn't leave him alone. He just didn't know what to think about it. He kicked the object again and it bounced into the side of the well. Some noise started to come out of it, not that he cared.
He picked it up to see what it was. Probably something of hers she left behind to torture me.
Then it started to sing:
And when I see you, I really see you upside down
Bitch couldn't leave him alone could she? Fucking ex-shard detector.
But my brain knows better, it picks you up and turns you around
Turns you around, turns you around
Turns you around, turns you around
Despite the need to display his anger because the song hurt him since it rang so true, he listened.
The first tear fell.
Kagome. You were my first friend, why did you have to leave me? You told me you'd stay with me forever if I'd let you, and damn it I was going to!
If you feel discouraged when there's a lack of color here
Please don't worry lover,
Please don't worry lover,
Lover?! His face went red at that. He didn't know if he'd ever see her that way but there were those feelings that wouldn't stop nagging him. They hurt. It was like they were going to come out soon if he didn't fix it.
it's really bursting at the seams

They don't matter… if she wanted to, she would have stayed. He Diamond-speared some trees that were in the way.
(ahh... ahhh...)
(ahh... ahhh...)
(ahh... ahhh...)
That felt better.

Thinking back… his idea of staying with her was just some silly dream. He should be used to this, people he cared about never really stayed long. He sighed and sat down by the base of the well with the contraption still in his hands.
All the girls in every girlie magazine can't make me feel any less alone,
I'm reaching for the phone to call at 7:03 and on your machine,
Ha! More talk about her contraptions from the future! Bitch just wanted to torture me!
I slur a plea for you to come home.
I slur a plea for you to come home.
Damn it her! Home was here! She should come home.
Please Kagome come back to me.
But I know it's too late, and I should have given you a reason to stay
A reason? He should have been reason enough. Hell, Shippou should have been reason enough… he saw her like a mother.
Given you a reason to stay;
That could have made him the father. He could have built them a house.
given you a reason to stay;
Where did that thought come from?
given you a reason to stay
I should have given you a reason to stay. Why the hell couldn't he have just told her he wanted her to stay? When she first asked him that day by the well, he hadn't verbalized any desire. Hell, the only thing he'd been able to verbalize is keeping her in his time but she must have misconstrued that. He always told her she was just the shard detector.

Fuck.
As the song ended he looked at the well and saw, “I'm sorry, come find me,” scribbled on the side of the well. This brought him hope. Maybe she hadn't wanted to be 500 years away.
The song ended. He knew it was a song that would play in his head until he could find her again.
His eyes let go one more tear.
~End~
