When the carriage stopped Hikari waited till her father stepped out of the carraige before gracefully stepping out herself. She let out a small gasp when her eyes landed on the lord of the western lands. She had heard he was considered one of the most attractive male youkai in Nippon but she was not prepared for the handsome specimen before her.
They bowed while he merely nodded his head in acknowlegment.
"Welcome to the western fortress," He said in his smooth baritone voice that nearly had her swooning. Suddenly she realised it wasn't just the position of lady of the western lands that had females climbing over eachother for the position.

From behind the Lord Sesshoumaru a girl, just in the beginnings of adolescence, popped her head out shyly.
"Rin, greet our guests," the lord commanded almost softly.
Immediately she came out from behind him and bowed and gave a toothy grin, "hello, Rin welcomes you to our home."
Hikari smiled back at the girl and nodded in gratitude for the warm greeting.
Her father gave her a none-too-pleased sideglance at her show of emotion. But for once she chose to ignore it.
"I have a gift for you Rin," Hikari said softly.
The little girls eyes brightened and got wider, "you do?"
She reached into the outer layer of her kimono and pulled out the doll, "I made this for you, I don't know if you feel too old for this kind of thing though."
Rin ran up and accepted the gift, holding it in her arms and looked at it adoringly, "thankyou! Rin loves it very much!" She turned around and ran back up the stairs to Sesshoumaru, holding the doll up for his inspection, "look what the pretty lady gave Rin!"
He looked down at the toy, seemingly disinterested, but Rin saw the small smile that was threatening the corner of his lips. Nodding to her she ran off with her new toy to undoubtably show master Jaken. Which was not hard to figure out since she was running down the hall calling his name.
Hikari smiled at Lord Sesshoumaru, "I'm glad she liked it."
His only response was "hn." before he turned and headed into the fortress. A servant quickly coming up to them and offering to show them their quaters for the duration of their stay.

"I can't believe you did such a pretentious thing! Giving a gift to the Lord Sesshoumaru's ward! You've probably insulted him now! Gave him the impression that you think he can't care properly for his ward no doubt!" Her father continued on in his tirade while she only half-listened.
Hikari very much doubted that giving a gift to the lords' ward would be taken as an insult. He didn't look as if it effected him at all, although she was almost sure she saw his lips twitch upward when Rin was showing him the new doll. So she quietly sat through her fathers ranting until he would tire of yelling at her and leave to no doubt suck up to the lord they were visiting.
"Are you even listening to me?!" He all but screamed in her face.
"Yes father, of course I am listening," she could not help the small bit of exhasperation in her tone, "and I really do think you are blowing this way out of proportion."
"THINK! You're job isn't to think! You're job is to make sure that Lord Sesshoumaru enjoys your company so much that he cannot do without you! You are not permitted to think!"
She stood and bowed, "my apologies, I forgot my only duty here is to be a good lay," Hikari turned and walked out of the room, intent on finding the gardens and spending a great deal of time in them until her father had cooled down and she regained more control of herself before she did something foolish.
The gardens weren't all that hard to find, once she stepped outside the strong scent of flowers was easy to follow and she was soon in the middle of what almost appeared to be a field of tall flowers around a small koi pond with a stone bench under a large maple.
She couldn't help but smile and made herself comfortable on the grass under the tree, watching the fish swim among the reeds and lilypads. It was so peaceful that she soon dozed off, slumped against the thick maple. Although a short while later she was awaked by quiet giggling.
Hikari blinked and reached up to wipe her eyes and look upon who had disturbed her restful nap.
Rin, fighting her hardest not to laugh, one hand over her mouth, the other clutching her new doll, stared back at Hitari.
Hitari smiled at the ward, "and what may I ask is so funny?"
Rin's face broke into a huge grin, "pretty lady was snoring with her mouth wide open."
She blushed, "oh really?"
Rin nodded vigorously.
"Do you know what happens when ningen girls wake a sleeping youkai?"
The ward shook her head.
She prepared to pounce, showing to Rin exactly her intent, a playful growl in her throat, "they get chased!"
And with that Rin dashed off into the long grass giggling as Hikari pretended to chase her down. Whenever Rin dropped into the grass too hide she acted as if the girl had vanished completely before nearly pouncing on her, missing on prupose. At one moment she allowed Rin to sneak up on her and "tackle" her, which left the two females rolling in the grass laughing.
"What's pretty lady's name?"
She looked over at Rin in surprise, "Hikari of the Nishou clan."
Rin jumped up off of the grass, "would you like to see Rin's room?"
Hikari stood, "I would love too," and followed the girl. As she looked up at the building she saw the Lord Sesshoumaru just leaving a balcony and wondered how long he had stood there watching, and if had been watching over Rin or observing herself.
Rin glanced at her and then followed the direction she was looking, "thats Lord Sesshoumaru's balcony to his room."
Hikari nodded in acknowlegment and they continued on to Rin's room.
*********
Dinner was quiet and would have been awkward and far less embarassing if it had not been for Rin chatting away the entire meal, telling her lord of the fun day she had had playing with the "nice pretty lady" as she had dubbed her. And telling him everything that she had learned about Hikari while she shyly sat in her seat and ate, resisting the urge to fidget.
It was particularily mortifying when Rin began telling him about when she had asked Hikari if she had ever liked a boy before and decided to spill all about the young lady's first and only proper beau. Hikari couldn't help but tell Rin things when she asked questions, she was just such an adorable curious little thing and she doubted Rin had very many female friends she got to talk with much.
Though on a few occasions throughout the meal she noticed Lord Sesshoumaru would look at her with an amused twinkle in the depths of his eyes, similar to the ones her brother would give her during public dinners. The pleasant feeling that gave her far overweighed the side-glaring she was recieving from her father for being "overly familiar with the lords ward" as he would undoubtably put it later that evening when he decided to yell at her some more.
After the meal she assumed they would go straight to the chambers to rest, or in her case, to be yelled at. But instead Lord Sesshoumaru bid them to come into his library and sit with him by the fire whilst Rin went to bed.
So there she was. Stuck on a cushion between a rock, she looked over at Sesshoumaru, and a hard place, she spared her father a glance. She took another small sip of her tea, like her father had taught her, she had taken the same sort of tea that her potential suitor drank, although she had to fight not to pucker at the bitter taste. While her father got to drink some form of a sweet berry tea.
The silence for a long while was quiet and fairly comfortable.
"Well this Sesshoumaru supposes that there is very little about Lady Hikari this Sesshoumaru could ask that Rin has not divulged," Hikari thought she heard something akin to amusement in his tone.
Hikari gave him a timid smile, "I apologise, I... I did not realise she intended to talk about me all through the meal."
Her father gave her a glare that was meant to silence her but she chose to ignore it, he feared Sesshoumaru too much to say anything reprimanding to her in his presence. And she planned to spend as much time in the lords presence thusly.
Lord Sesshoumaru gave her a small nod, and Hikari assumed that meant she was forgiven and the topic finished until a few moment later he decided to speak again. "Rin has a tendancy to speak of whatever excites her, and apparently your company is a very excitable event."
She blushed lightly and took another sip of her tea, forgetting just how bitter it tasted and barely saved herself from scrunching her face up at the flavor.
Shortly after they had finished their conversation Lord Sesshoumaru and her father began to speak of politics and the state of their respective homes, her father of course shmoosing whenever he could.
It was at least another hour before the two males finished their conversation and decided it was time for them to retire for the night.
Lord Sesshoumaru esorted them both to their respective rooms, her father to his first, bidding him a good and restful sleep. Then when the two reached her chambers he took her hand and gently pressed a kiss to the inside of her wrist and bid her a good night. Hikari had almost gone into her room before she looked back out into the hall and wached him go through the door near the end of the hall.
The nearness of his chambers made her feel oddly relieved and safe, her father couldn't come and yell at her because Lord Sesshoumaru would surely hear. And she had a feeling he would come to her rescue if her father did pay her a visit.
