She could hear her father opening the door and she ran as quickly and as quietly as she could down the hall and around the corner whence she came before stopping, waiting till she heard her father's footsteps and then very composedly walking around the corner to head to Sesshoumaru's office. On the way she passed her father who gave her a grin and a wink before heading off to wherever he was going. She got to the door that her father had left slightly ajar and knocked lightly before coming in and giving Sesshoumaru a smile, asking him if he was ready to escort her to lunch.

Hikari stretched languidly on the rather uncomfortable sofa and tried to get herself comfortable.

When Sesshoumaru had left her at her room like he did every night she had sat on the edge of her bed till she heard his door close and then had quickly and quietly made her way to the door behind the staircase. She had first gone to the library to read but after falling from the ladder, since there was no Sesshoumaru to hold it steady for her, she decided to go to the music room and find a spot to sleep.

So now Hikari did her best to get comfortable on the sofa in order to get some proper sleep. It would not do for her to look tired come morning.

**********

Hikari blinked in the morning light a couple times before her eyes adjusted. She gave a small shriek of surprise at the golden eyes that were staring back at her. Of course that caused said eyes to leave her field of vision quickly as the owner of them stood.

"Don't startle me like that!" She shouted at Sesshoumaru.

"Hn."

She sat up, rubbing her face with one hand while leaning on the other for support in her groggy state.

"Would you care to explain why you slept up here all night?"

Hikari paled slightly, "what makes you think I was here all night?" Her voice shaking ever so slightly.

He gave no answer and simply stood there, waiting.

"I... I just felt like sleeping up here." Which wasn't a total lie she figured.

Sesshoumaru raised an eyebrow, "hn." He offered her his hand to help her up.

She reached out and as she did so her robe sleeve slid down to her elbow, revealing a crude bandage made from what looked to be the hem of her robe.

Sesshoumaru immediately seated himself beside her, pulling the arm towards him for closer inspection. "And how did you manage to injure yourself."

Hikari blushed slightly, from the close contact and from embarassment, "I sort of fell off the ladder in the library and hit my arm on the mantle corner of the fireplace."

He looked at her for a moment. "Hn. You have a tendancy of getting into trouble."

She reached up with her other hand and started to fix her mussed hair, "he.. he... well, brother used to say it just made me more interesting."

"Hn." Sesshoumaru responded as he gently removed the bandage she had tied rather well.

The long jagged cut had obviously stopped bleeding but was still quite red as the new skin had not completely formed and some dried blood remained. Because of its location being rather close to her elbow she had not cleaned it. Hikari jumped slightly when the demon lord brought her arm to his mouth and gently began cleaning it for her with his tongue. She tried to say he didn't have to, but when she had opened her mouth only a very embarrassing squeak and come out, which of course, he ignored.

Hikari opened her mouth again only to have another squeak come out before she began fidgiting.

He paused in his ministrations, "be still."

Hikari froze and just blushed redder and redder as she felt every lick from his long tongue and as unbidden images of what else he could do with that tongue entered her mind. It didn't help that he was looking directly into her eyes giving her the expression that he knew exactly what he was doing to her and what she was thinking of. When he had finished he gave the entire wound one long lick, and she was almost sure he did it just to make her squirm in her seat.

"All better?"

She looked up from the now faint red line on her forarm and nodded slowly, she could've swore she saw the corner of his lip twitch upward.

"Good, perhaps then, you should return to you room and prepare for breakfast." He stood and held her arm gently as they walked down the hall, stairs and to her room. And like he had many nights before, he gently kissed her forehead before leaving to his own chambers.

Hikari near collapsed into the chair that was nearest to the door, staring at her arm. "Well that didn't go too bad." She said to herself out loud.

***********

Hikai sat on the floor with Rin in the young girls' room, she was currently teaching Rin how to sew. Hikari had come across Rin trying to attempt to mend a tear in one of her kimono's and a servant was failing miserably in showing the child how. So, for the sake of the frustrated servant and poor confused Rin, she stepped in.

"So how did you tear your kimono?" Hikari asked, once Rin had caught the hang of it and she just watched the girl try to make the small precise stitches she had shown her.

Rin was silent for a moment before pausing in her work to look at Hikari, "... Rin stepped on it when Rin was running in the garden."

Hikari laughed softly, "did you tell Lord Sesshoumaru?"

Rin nodded, "he said that Rin should hold up the kimono slightly when running so as not to tear it."

She shook her head while smiling softly, at first it had surprised her when she had begun her stay there. Sesshoumaru had never once scolded Rin that she had seen. If she started doing something she shouldn't he merely said her name and Rin stopped and ran to his side. But the fact, that instead of scolding her for not behaving like the lady that everyone adressed her as he simply advised her on better mobility in a long kimono, made her like him even more. And made her wonder what he would be like with his own heir and other pups.

"He said that if a lady must run than she must do it properly."

Hikari laughed outright at that, "that sounds like something the lord might say."

Rin stopped when she was halfway through sewing the tear and looked at Hikari pensively. She giggled when Hikari stared back and tilted her head slightly in a very dog-like way, her ears forward and focused on Rin. "Do you like Rin?"

She smiled at the girl, "yes, very much."

Rin grinned, "good, Rin likes you too," she went back to sewing, "you're much nicer than all the other ladies. Rin thinks that's why Lord Sesshoumaru likes you."

Hikari frowned, "all the other ladies?"

Rin nodded vigerously, "yes, they were mean and didn't like Rin because Rin is human. They have always not liked Rin." She giggled, "the last lady Lord Sesshoumaru threw out of the fortress."

Hikari's eye's widened slightly, "he threw her out? Why?"

Rin gave her a wide smile, "she wanted to eat Rin."

Hikari laughed, "and he made her leave because of that?"

Rin shook her head, "he didn't make her leave, he forced her to. Lord Sesshoumaru grabbed her kimono collar and dragged her to the door and tossed her out. And told the gaurds not to let her in again."

Hikari laughed even louder, she would've given her fuzzy left ear to see any one of the arrogant youkai ladies put in their place like that.

"Something amusing?"

The deep voice caused her to jump when she sat.

Rin didn't even flinch as she looked up at her lord, "Rin was just telling Kari a funny story about Lady Tari."

He raised an eyebrow at Rin referring to Hikari so informally.

Hikari blushed, "I told Rin she could call me Kari, my brother would call me that all the time. Father used to too."

"Hn."

He stood there in the doorway for some time, just watching Rin and Hikari continue to talk while Rin sewed.

"I was on my way to the dojo and Rin often likes to come watch," He paused when Hikari looked up at him, "would you care to join us?"

She smiled and nodded, "we will come in a moment, Rin is nearly done fixing her kimono."

He nodded his head and remained standing in the door while she watched over Rin's stitches and then finally showed her how to tie it off so the thread did not come loose.

The walk to the dojo was a long one, in fact it was on the far side of the fortress and Hikari wondered at Rin's stamina as the girl managed to perfectly keep up with Sesshoumaru's steady pace and long legs. Long legs that were highlighted by his hakama silks clinging with every stride and quickly became very distracting as she walked behind him. She was eternally grateful that his tail at least slightly covered his backside so she she couldn't be tempted to stare at it too. Although she was beginning to wish she could because the glimpses she was getting every time he took a step was not nearly enough.

As if Rin had noticed where she was staring from beside her she began to giggle. Which caused Sesshoumaru to look over his shoulder at them and Hikari to blush and look away.

When they reached the dojo there was a small bench waiting for her and Rin to sit and a young male guard, an inu youkai, was waiting to sparr with Sesshoumaru.

Hikari tried her best not to yawn watching him sparr, Rin was very entertained, but she never found any attraction in watching two males fight. She would much rather do the fighting, although she hadn't gotten to do much since her father dissapproved of her learning to use blades.

~~~~~~~~~~
"Don't lock your arm, keep it loose, keep your movements fluid." He took another strike at her, "take their attack and turn it against them."
Hikari blocked the next blow but pushed his blade in the wrong direction, cutting the leg of the hakamas he gave her to wear.
He sighed, "alright, well you're definately not good with a katana."
"I told you that!" She stomped her foot.
He turned and pointed his katana at her, "do not act like a child, if you act like a child then I'll treat you like one and that means no more lessons."
Hikari's shoulders slumped, "sorry, but I did tell you."
He smiled and shook his head, lowering the blade. He pulled a pair of differet ones off the wall and tossed them to her, "you really shouldn't favor blades but here, you might as well stick to what you're good at."
Hikari grinned and caught them easily, letting both spin around her hand as she tossed back the katana.
"Why'd you'd prefer a secondary blade is beyond me."
She pulled the sheaths off, reavealing two short curved blades known as a wakizashi, letting her thumb slide across it, "are we going to talk or are we going to fight?"
~~~~~~~~~~~

"Is this Sesshoumaru boring you?"

She was brought out of her reverie and sighed, "no, I was just thinking."

The young guard smiled at her before bowing to Sesshoumaru, "will that be all my lord?"

He merely gave him a nod and the boy quickly put his katana away and left.

Hikari smiled, "nice pup. Not a bad fighter either, except he should do a little more work with his left hand, he seemed to be favoring his right."

Sesshoumaru raised an eyebrow.

She shrugged, "I learned a little when I was younger."

"You should sparr with Lord Sesshoumaru!" Rin was practically jumping in her seat.

Hikari smiled at Rin and looked up at him, "well?"

He gave a very small smile, his lip corners moving up just slightly, "chose your blade," he gestured toward the open weapon closet.

Well there is chapter 5, sorry it took me a bit longer than the other ones. I would have made this chapter longer but my OCD demands that it not go over 2000 words (excluding review and my personal comments at the start and finish) and this one was cutting it pretty close.

I will finish chapter 6 and have it up as soon as I can.
