Chapter 12
Disclaimer: I do not own Inuyasha or any of the characters.
WARNING: Another sorrow filled chapter.
Okay, I just want to say, my goal chapter length for every chapter is 1,000 words. Anything less is what I consider short. If it is less, that means I don’t have enough reviews to satisfy me, so the readers don’t get as much to read. Thank you for your time, now on with the story.
The hanyou sighed quietly. He put the phone back on its cradle and lay back on his bed. He was waiting for Kagome to arrive. He was in deep. He had done something horrible. He shuddered in remembrance in what he did.
Kagome was driving swiftly along the roads she had memorized. All of these years of going to her best friend’s house…She had never heard this foreign emotion in his voice. Not since his mother had died…
He tried to bottle everything up. Nothing was working. He needed Kagome. She was his source of comfort.
‘All of these years…I don’t think I could have made it without Kagome by my side…She’s always there when I need her. Even now, in the middle of the night. Kagome…She’s always there…’ Images of what had happened flashed before his eyes. A wave of nausea passed over him. He doubled over into the fetal position and hugged his knees close to his chest. He had vague memories of what had happened…But he knew something had happened. How he cursed his demonic heritage. A low growl escaped the poor, agonized boy. He barely noticed the girl creeping into his room. However, her scent alone calmed him. He flicked his amber orbs up at her.
She took in the scene before her…
Inuyasha, her best friend, covered in blood. She couldn’t tell whether it was his blood, or, dare she even think it, someone else’s. The hanyou, who always stood brave in the face of danger, had been reduced to a cowardly mess. His fair silvery hair was matted and caked with dried blood. He looked as though he was going to be sick, and his eyes shone with fear. She hastily made her way to the boy. She sat upon the bed next to him and held her arms up. He picked himself up and melted into her embrace. The sobs he had held back for so long broke lose. She whispered in his ears consolingly as he wept to his hearts content.
A frown found its way to her features. ‘What possibly could have happened…What degraded him so badly…Seeing him like this…It breaks my heart.’
“Kagome.” His voice cracked, scratchy from crying. “Kagome…I did…I…” He looked into her concerned gaze. “Kagome I did something gruesome. I…I allowed my demon blood to consume me…” With that, he began his tale. His hideously gruesome tale.
Flashback-
Inuyasha was sitting on a bench at the park after his little frog incident. He didn’t know what he was doing. Something had possessed him to sit in the park. He had a gut feeling something dire was going to happen. He heard a noise. It sounded oddly like a child crying. He stood up to investigate.
On a swing, not a long ways away from where he had been sitting was a small girl. His heart twanged. He couldn’t stand to see girls cry more than anything else. He cautiously stepped towards her. She gasped, flicking her wide brown eyes at the man. She sniffled and wiped her tears away. She continued to stare at him.
“If it’s not too much to ask, why are you crying?” He inquired his voice shaky.
“My foster parents…They don’t want me anymore…” She sounded so pitiful. The sadness almost radiating off her made him want to bring her in his arms and cradle her tightly. “I heard them on the phone…” She sniffled as more tears sprang from her eyes. His heart sank.
“Please…Don’t cry. My name’s Inuyasha, you can come with me.” He picked her up warily.
“Thank you Inuyasha.” She smiled brightly at him. “My name is Rin!” Her smile made his heart swell; knowing her had made her tears disappear. He shifted her weight and started walking out of the park.
As he was leaving, he smelled a familiar scent. It was Kikyou’s. He followed his nose until he found the source. Kikyou in her radiant beauty. Her long raven hair was streaming in the wind. He sniffed, something was amiss.
His heart broke at the sight. Kikyou was kissing another man. That was the last the hanyou remembered before everything turned red. The next memory he had was of Sesshomaru finding him lying in a pool of blood, with a body next to him, and Rin trying to wake him up.
“Inuyasha. Get up.” His cold-hearted brother picked up the small girl and kicked him lazily. “Get up before you get caught!” This time, if one listened hard enough they could almost hear worry laced into his voice. The boy opened his eyes and was confused at the sight before him. There was a body, heavily damaged, but still breathing, ‘Thank God!’ lying next to him, and he was covered in its blood.
He realized who the boy was. The one who had been kissing Kikyou. He couldn’t place the name to the face. He knew he knew the man…If only he could remember…
-End Flashback
“Oh Inuyasha! You really liked her didn’t you?” Kagome looked at him sadly. He nodded and looked at the floor. “Where’s Rin now?”
“Sesshomaru set her up in one of the quest rooms I suppose.” His eyes never left the floor.
“Inuyasha…You didn’t kill him! You shouldn’t feel this bad. I know you wouldn’t if it had been Kouga!” She looked at him, her voice pleading for him to look at her; he wouldn’t.
“Inuyasha! Who was it, then?” His eyes locked with hers. She saw the pain, the despair, in his eyes.
“I…I don’t know…” His voice cracked as he forced his emotions away. He dully controlled his features and locked his face into a stoic mask.
She muttered into his hair as she buried her face in it. “Inuyasha, you need to get out of these bloody clothes. Come on.” She helped him up and towards his bathroom. “You could at least try to walk!” She grumbled at him. She set him down on the toilet seat and walked over to the tub. She ran the water, making sure it was the right temperature and added bubbles.
“Strip down, scrub clean, I’ll have some clothes waiting for you when you get out.” She looked at him to see if he heard. His slight nod and a start on taking his clothes off indicated he had. She started for the door, hesitated, and shot a worried glance at him. ‘Poor Inuyasha. When he finally learned to control his demonic blood, he loses control again.’ She walked out to pick out some pajamas for him.
She glanced at the clock and shook her head at the time, 1:00.
Around a half hour later, Inuyasha had managed to clean himself of the blood and get a pair of boxers and a shirt on. “Kagome…Can you stay tonight?” His pleading eyes removed any ‘no’s she may have had and she agreed.
So…Any guesses on who the guy was? Remember, reviews if you want ‘long’ updates. Thank you!
