Summary: Rin is now, finally, a senior in high school. But one surprise is in store for her…
The clock on the mantle read seven a.m. but Rin Shakumori was already up and around her house. School…why do we need it? She questioned as she went downstairs after changing into her school uniform. She hated the brown plaid skirts and the white button up tops, but it was school policy to wear them. She grabbed a glass of orange juice and drank it quickly. Reading the clock now at seven fifteen she grabbed her backpack and headed out the door. The weather was still warm enough for her to be able to leave with out a jacket and not freeze. It's a beautiful day…too bad I'm stuck inside all day. She saw her school building looming up over the grounds just a block away. "At least I only have this last year. Then I'm free." As she walked she spied her friends ahead of her and ran to catch up to them. "Yuri, Mara, wait up." She yelled as her friends stopped and looked for who was calling them. Seeing her they smiled and waited the few seconds it took her to catch up to them.
"Rin, how are? Haven't seen you since last June." They commented to their good friend.
"I'm fine. I've been so busy over summer I haven't been able to do any thing. My mom's sick." She said matter-of-factly. Everyone knew her mother was a hypochondriac and was always `sick'. They shrugged off the comment as they walked into the large building. As they went in they walked to a table and grabbed their new schedule for the semester. Rin groaned at the list of teachers she had. "Wait, I took English three last year. They must have mixed up my classes. I have to go fix this. I'll see you at lunch." She called as she went down the hall to the office.
"Excuse me Miss. Can I help you?" said a kindly old woman at the front desk. Rin smiled and walked up to her.
"Yeah. They put me down for English three and I passed that class last year." She said handing over the slip of paper with her classes on it. The lady nodded knowingly.
"The administers and councilors are making more mistakes this year than usual. I'll fix this up, it'll be a second though." Rin nodded and took a seat by the door. I hope this doesn't make me late for my first class.
Rin ran down the hallways trying to get to her first period class on time. Give up Rin, you've got thirty second to get to the second floor. She thought. Just then she heard the bell ring and slowed down to her normal walk. She walked into class and handed the slip from the office attendant to her teacher. "third seat on the left." The teacher directed her with out looking up from the note.
The rest of the day passed by without event. Finally her fourth period bell rang and she went out to the lunch area. "Rin. Over here Rin." She turned around and spotted her good friends. "So did you get your schedule changed?" she nodded. "so whose the new teacher." She looked at the slip of paper.
"Some teacher name…Mr. Hakumaru." Her friends gasped and became giddy. She looked at them with a confused look.
"We have him too. Sixth period. You know, I heard he's a new teacher." She smiled and they walked to the lunch line, completely dropping the subject of the new teacher. Lunch and he next class seemed to fly by. She looked up at the room numbers…112…113…114…ahh here it is. 115. She pushed open the door and nearly dropped her book bag. There, talking to a young freshman was a handsome god-like man. Her mouth went dry as she stood flabbergasted. I heard he was new…but not gorgeous. The young girl smiled and walked by, brushing Rin's arm and bringing her out of her thoughts. She smiled her most innocent smile and walked up to him. She cleared her throat lightly and it brought his eyes away from the paper he was looking at.
"Am I in the right room? My schedule says I have Mr. Hakumaru in room 115." He smiled and nodded his head.
"Yes. This is the right room. Have a seat any where." He said in a friendly tone. She smiled again and sat in the second row, middle column. Soon enough Yuri and Mara walked through the door and made their way to her, not even looking at the new teacher currently writing on the board. They sat and chit chatted until the bell rang and then turned in their seats to face the front of the class. "Welcome class. My name is Mr. Hakumaru, and I will be your teacher for the next ten months. Your first assignment is on the board, and when you've completed it please sit quietly." He said cheerfully.
~~~~~
Sesshomaru Hakumaru nearly dropped the papers he was holding when he looked up at the beautiful girl standing next to him. He had to force himself to think and comprehend what she was saying. "Am I in the right room? My schedule says I have Mr. Hakumaru in room 115." He set his papers down and confirmed her questions. Just my luck! He thought sarcastically as she took a seat and began to talk with her friends. He wrote a few things on the bored and then turned to look at the class just as the bell rang.
"Welcome class. My name is Mr. Hakmaru, and I will be your teacher for the next ten months. Your first assignment is on the board, and when you've completed it please sit quietly." He watched as the students pulled out notebooks and pens and began writing on the assignment down. His eyes almost instantly fell to the goddess in the front row. He studied her posture and the way she moved as she wrote. Damn, why did she have to be my student. He sat at his desk and stacked the few papers residing on its top. When he drew his eyes away from on of the essays he was reading he found Rin looking at him. Her eyes immediately shot down to her desktop and a strong blush covered her cheeks. He smiled. She's even prettier when she blushes. What am I doing? I can't ogle my students. I need to get a grip. He stood and noticed that most of the class was done. "Ok. Now pass the papers forward and get out your English books. " He saw Rin move and bring her chair to her friend. His mouth tugged down into a light frown. "Do you not have a book?" she looked up the glorious smile fading from her face.
"Pardon?"
"Do you not have a book?" she shook her head no.
"The office made a mistake on my schedule and put me in English three. By the time I got switched here, they didn't have any books left. I should have one by tomorrow." She blushed as he smiled a friendly smile at her.
"Here, you can use mine for today." He said handing her a book. She blushed and moved back to her seat. "Ok. We are going to do class reading. Who would like to read first?" he looked around and saw no one volunteer. Rin looked around and saw no ones hand up so she raised her hand. "ok…" he paused and got her name off of a sheet of paper. "Miss Shakumori." She began the paragraph and read with ease. Her voice is so…perfect. As time went on other students were brave enough to volunteer and Rin wasn't forced to read the entire passage. Soon enough the bell rang and everyone got up to leave. Rin walked out with a last glance back at her teacher but all but ran home.
~~~Time Elapse~~~
As weeks passed Rin became entranced with her English teacher. Not only is he gorgeous, he's sweet and funny and…Wait! What am I doing? I can't start falling for my English teacher can I? she shook her head tuned into the class. All through the weeks Rin found her eyes wandering to her teacher's form, but she found it unnerving that every time she laid eyes upon him he was looking at her as well. She couldn't seem to get him out of her mind. He seemed to like using her as a demonstration or a person to debate with in class. It's probably because I was the first one to raise my hand the first day of school and make his job easier. She sighed and her friends along with the teacher looked at her. She blushed hotly and looked down that brown book on her desk. Curse my thoughts.
Class seemed unbearable until sixth period…until she came in. Sesshomaru couldn't help his roaming eyes, every time there was a quiet moment he would study her figure, and then berate himself about it later. He thought it was some stupid crush on a girl far younger than him, but he felt less for some of the girls he dated. It's just a stupid thing…I'll get over it. He would tell himself every day as he went home, but every night his thoughts would travel back to her as he was grading papers. I've got to get a grip on myself.
~~~Two days later~~~
"Class we have a new student. Please welcome Chris Maki." The class mumbled a hello as the new student settled in to his seat. "Ok take out your books and flip to last nights assignment." Chris looked to his right and saw Rin opening her book and settling her notebook down. He scooted over to her and tapped her on the shoulder.
"Hey, I didn't get a book can I share with you?" he asked with a friendly smile. Rin smiled in turn and moved her book between them. "thanks. Hey your nice what's your name?"
"Rin…where are…"
"No talking in class Miss Shakumori." Rin was cut short by his harsh words. She nodded and focused on the book. It made him go crazy inside to see her smiling and talking to the new boy. Little punk, putting the moves on Rin. Ha she'll see right through it. As he observed the two his blood boiled.
Chris passed a note to Rin and she took it nervously glancing up at her teacher.
Rin is a pretty name. It suits you nicely.
She smiled and wrote on the note. (AN: -+I new part of the note)
-Where are you from?
-Chicago
-That sounds so cool. What is it like?
-Big and busy. I have a question for you.
-What?
-Will you go out with me? She gasped lightly and jerked in her seat at the question. She didn't notice the eyes of her teacher on her. She felt her cheeks flare to a bright red before she replied.
-Yes
"Is there something more important then reading the passage over there Miss Shakumori and Mr. Maki?" they shook their head in unison. He walked over to them and took the note from Chris's desk. Rin blushed a crimson as she realized he intended to read it. Oh my god! Please don't let him read it. Please! "Finish reading the passage and answer the questions by the end of the period."
His blood nearly boiled over as he saw Rin accept the note and then blush at the contents. He had to put a stop to this. He walked over and confiscated the note, quickly reading its content and seething at every word. This boy is bad news. Why am I so upset? She's a student, a very attractive student, she is going to get dates. It's not like she's yours or any thing. He trashed the note and sat at his desk. The bell rang quickly enough and all the students left hurriedly, except for two. Rin and the new boy Chris stood outside the door. "Hey sorry about getting you in trouble earlier."
"Hey no harm done. So."
"Did you want to go to the movies tonight or something?"
"Sure. Can you pick me up at seven?" Chris smiled and nodded then leaned an placed a quick kiss to her cheek. Sesshomaru had to fist his hands to keep from storming out into the hallway. He shrugged his shoulders. It's not like anything would have happened between you two anyway. He waited until the two had left and walked out the door, faintly smelling her pleasant perfume.
~~~7:00 pm~~~
Chris pulled up at seven and Rin dashed out to his car, calling a quick goodbye to her mom. They went to see a comedy movie and by the end Rin's sides ached from all the laughing. They pulled up outside her house and Rin made to get out, but Chris stopped her. He brought his face close to hers and placed his lips on hers. Needing to indulge in her fantasies of her English teacher, she let her imagination wander. She pretended that her teacher's lips were on her own right now, that it was his mouth reeking havoc on her emotions. Chris pulled away quickly, breathing hard. "Rin." Was all he said. She got out of his car, not wanting to go any farther. I've got to do something about this crush. I know exactly what I'll do too. She squared her shoulders and made up a plan to smother her annoying crush. I hope this plan works. I'll be mortified if it doesn't. With that she went to bed her resolve strengthening as sleep claimed her.
