Possibly Friends?

Kagome rushed into the school soaking wet the next morning. She hated when it rained outside. Especially when she had to walk in such weather. Kagome struggled to her locker. Her backpack was getting heavier with every book she borrowed from the library. She let it fall to the ground giving it a frustrated kick.

Before she could even open her locker. "Kagome!" It was her friend Eri, being followed by Yuka, and Ayumi. Kagome fiddled with her locker combination as they walked over. "So how's everything with you and Kouga?" She teased. Kagome responded by rolling her eyes.

"Just perfect!" She said, sarcastically.

"Why don't you just give him a chance, Kaggs?" Yuka asked her.

Kagome piled her books out of her locker, and hurled them into her backpack. 'Can't wait to hurl this damn thing around school all day!' She thought to herself, sarcastically, completely ignoring Yuka's dumb question.

"Kagome, seriously!" Ayumi nagged, "Do you have anyone else in mind?" Kagome slammed her locker shut, angrily. "That's my business!" She snapped, reaching for her bag.

She tugged it but it didn't budge. The strap was caught in the locker. She pulled harder letting out all of her anger on the backpack. Finally the strap snapped off making Kagome's blood boil. "Just great!" She growled!

She turned to yell at her friends for nagging her, but they had already run away.

Inuyasha met Miroku at his locker, like every morning. "So, where's our first class?" Miroku asked with annoyance in his voice. Miroku and Inuyasha had set it up so that they were in every class together but two. "Math." Inuyasha groaned.

Miroku rolled his eyes. "Shall we get going?" Miroku, and Inuyasha headed off to class, but Inuyasha made sure they passed Kagome's locker like every morning.

Even if it was out of their way, Miroku understood that Inuyasha couldn't start his day without seeing Kagome. Not to mention, he was in no rush to get to math class!

Inuyasha walked by a very wet Kagome, still in awe by her beauty. He smirked watching her shove Kouga away. "Get away from me, Kouga!" She screamed, "I'm in no mood to deal with you!"

Inuyasha couldn't wait for the class after math. Study hall in the library. With Kagome. Who knows… she noticed him yesterday, why wouldn't she notice him today?

Math went by really slow, and Inuyasha was relieved to hear the bell ring. Him and Miroku walked over to class to see that they were the first ones there. Inuyasha decided that it was a good time to take out his book. He tried hiding it behind his backpack as he read, but it was no use.

Kagome stormed into the library. Gods was she having a bad day! Damn Kouga breathing down her neck, her stupid friends nagging her every second, and to top it off; having to hurl around this heavy backpack. Nothing could cheer her up.

Suddenly, something caught her attention. Loud, obnoxious laughing. She turned to see the dog boy hitting his friend over the head. "Shut up, Miroku!" He growled. "I-I still can't believe you're reading a love story!" The obnoxious boy blurted out, between little chuckles.

Kagome saw the red, leather book in the dog boy's hands, and immediately lightened up. He had taken her advice! She suddenly felt her legs moving in their direction. She had to talk to this guy! Even if he thought she was a complete freak!

Inuyasha was really getting pissed off. What did it take to make Miroku shut up? He was about to hit him again when. "Hey!" A cheerful voice said next to him. He turned to see Kagome sitting right next to him. He looked over at Miroku to see if he saw her too. Obviously Inuyasha wasn't imaging it, because Miroku was glaring at her with the same shock.

"Uh, hi!" Inuyasha managed to say, though the shock must've been clear on his face. "So, I see you took my advice?" Kagome said, in the same cheerful tone, nodding towards the book in his hands. Inuyasha blushed. "Uh, yeah!" He said, in the friendliest voice possible, "It's pretty good, so far."

She smiled warmly at him, making him want to melt in his seat. "Told you so!" She chirped happily. "So what's your name, dog boy?" She shot him a playful grin. Miroku burst out laughing again. "D-Dog Boy!" He repeated, practically falling off his seat. He did fall of his seat when Inuyasha shoved him, though.

He turned towards Kagome. 'She still doesn't know my name…?' "Inuyasha." He told her. "Inuyasha…" She repeated, thoughtfully. "Nice name… I'm Kagome." she held out a hand to him, and Inuyasha blushed as their hands made contact. 'She can probably feel how sweaty my palms are!' He realized, pulling away quickly.

There was an awkward silence as the three of them sat there. "So!" Miroku's voice broke the silence, "Kagome, don't you like Inuyasha's ears?" Inuyasha wanted to turn and punch Miroku. He was obviously hinting at what happened in the second grade.

Kagome just giggled a little. "How couldn't I?" She asked, making Inuyasha blush. They sat there for a little while, not talking. Kagome knew she had to say something. The silence was killing her! "Inuyasha, where are you in the book?" She laughed as his ears perked up to his name.

Inuyasha wasn't sure why she was laughing, but she was talking to him! He had never been so happy in his life, and he didn't want it to stop now. "Chapter Three." He said, proudly. He had never read so much in his life! "Really? Already?" She asked surprised. He just nodded.

She didn't know why she felt the need to talk to this dog boy. Was it what happened in the second grade? Was it the fact that she had never had a dog of her own before? Whatever it was she didn't know. "The story's just getting good!" She told him excitedly, "Just wait for chapter five!"

They suddenly began talking about the book. Inuyasha wasn't sure how he did it, but he had actually gotten Kagome to notice him. To talk to him. To laugh! This was all happening so fast. He had waited to talk to her his whole life, and here she was now. Somehow he managed to have a conversation!

They got so caught up in their conversation that the next thing they knew the bell was ringing. "Well, it's been great talking to you, Inuyasha!" She smiled. She got up, and hurled her heavy backpack over her shoulder. Inuyasha noticed one strap was ripped.

"Eh, Kagome?" He asked, shyly. "Huh?" She replied, waiting for his response. "Do you need help with that?" He asked, nodding at her backpack. She blushed. "N-No that's okay, Inu-" Before she could finish he was lifting the backpack from her shoulder.

"It's fine, really!" He insisted. "Miroku, I'll meet you in Science later." he called behind his shoulder, before leaving the library. Kagome walked by his side, a wide smile on her face. This Inuyasha wasn't so bad at all! He was actually the nicest guy she knew.

He carried the backpack with ease to her next class, they talked along the way. It was relieving that they could talk so easily. At first it was awkward, but now Kagome didn't even have to try. They would just get carried away in conversation.

When they reached the front of Kagome's class, Inuyasha handed Kagome her backpack. "Thank you, so much!" Kagome said, happily. He just shrugged, "It was nothing." The bell rang, and Kagome suddenly realized. "Oh! You're late to class! I'm so sorry!" She gasped.

He just laughed. "It's okay, really, Kagome!" He said. "Trust me, I don't care." She smiled, gratefully at him. "Thanks again." She said. "If you ever need any help with anything-" He added shyly. "I'll be sure to ask you!" she finished. "I'll see you around." with that, she disappeared into her class.

Inuyasha was in a complete daze. It was a miracle he made it to class. It was worth the detention, anyway. He had carried Kagome's backpack to class for her, and even talked to her. Best of all, she didn't seem to mind it that much! Inuyasha for once felt confident.
