Now You're Gone

Summary: This is my first one shot so don't blame me if it sucks. The note in the beginning explains things so don't ask unless I didn't explain it good enough. Thank you. Pairings are clear and explained so if you don't get them you need help. I have developed a love for Kouga so he is going to be the great, caring, hot, yummy, spunky boyfriend. Some angst for InuYasha so there's the explanation.

 

Chapter: Now You're Gone

To get you up to speed here is what happened:

 

Kagome and Souta's mom has died.

Kagome dropped out of school to get more jobs to pay for Souta's tuition.

InuYasha has been out of Tokyo in Kyoto having the time of his life.

Finally Sango tells Kagome to let Souta stay with her and her boyfriend Miroku in their apartment while she saves up so that Souta and her are under less stress.

The setting is InuYasha decides to return to Tokyo with his slutty girlfriend Kikyo.

Kagome works eight different jobs. She is an anorexic because she has hardly any time to eat.

Kouga is her supportive boyfriend who is studying to be a lawyor. He wants to propose to Kagome.

Sango and Miroku can't help her because she won't accept it. She let Souta stay with them though so he was less stressed.

InuYasha now enters with Kikyo.

 

Kagome opened the door to the shrine after her shift at the bar. She had about two hours to sleep before her shift at WacDonalds started. She flicked on the light in the master bedroom, went face first onto the bed and fell asleep instantly. Her lack of food from her jobs was taking a toll on her energy but there was nothing she could do. The only meal she ever had time for anymore was during her lunch break where she normally only had an apple anyway. Kouga, her boyfriend, could be heard on his computer in the next room. He lived with Kagome. Sango had assigned him to watch Kagome to make sure she didn't stop eating entirely.

Sango groped around on her nightstand for the ringing phone that had jerked her out of her peaceful sleep. Miroku sat up next to her and turned on his bedside lamp.

 

"Who in their right damn mind would call at 3:00 in the morning?" Sango grumbled as her found the phone, “Hello?"

 

"Sango guess who this is?"

 

Sango's eyes widened, "Yasha?"

 

Miroku's eyes also grew wide, "Let me talk to him!" Miroku tried to grab the phone from Sango.

 

"Yep it's me. So how have things been?"

 

"Just a sec." Sango held the receiver away from her mouth and asked quietly, "Should we tell him?"

 

"Tell me what? What happened Sango?" InuYasha sounded genuinely worried.

 

"Might as well because Kagome won't tell him." Miroku replied bitterly. All of them were still angry with InuYasha for leaving town. Then never calling or coming to visit even when they all left desperate pleas for his help with Kagome's financial problem. Finally they had all given up.

 

"Kagome won't tell me what? WHAT is going on there? Geez...I call to say I'm in town and coming to visit and you guys go all goddamn weird on me."

 

"Well ya know what? While you were in Kyoto having the time of your life Kagome's mom has died, Souta has come to live with me and Miroku in the apartment we bought a month and a half ago and now Kagome lives with Koga in the shrine while she works eight jobs and is anorexic!" Sango couldn't take it and she ended up screaming into the phone.

 

"Why didn't anyone call me?" InuYasha demanded.

 

"We tried InuYasha. Check with the woman that keeps answering the phone and telling us you're out. She said her name was...Kinkyho or something like that. We called every day for two months before we gave up and you left our thoughts completely." Miroku said in a tired voice in the background.

 

"Do us all a favor InuYasha! Go back to Kyoto and whatever hussy you're sleeping with and leave us ALONE! Kagome has enough to deal with already! You know she has stopped speaking about you and the rest of us have followed suit! She had somewhat of a crush on you when we were in high school but now she won't even say you're name! We've changed Inuyasha and believe it or not we've moved on in our lives from you."

 

With that Sango slammed down the phone and sighed in exasperation. A timid knock came at the door and Souta entered the room.

 

"Sango I can't sleep. I miss Kagome."

 

Sango held her arm out to her best friends' younger brother and he climbed into bed between Sango and Miroku.

InuYasha listened to Sango in the hotel and total unadulterated shock crossed his face at everything that had happened to Kagome and Sango and Miroku.

 

"Kikyo!" he called into the bathroom to his girlfriend where she had been getting ready for a night of fun, dirty bedding.

 

"Yes?” she asked in a slinky voice.

 

"Have people by the names of Sango, Miroku or Kagome called since we met and got an apartment?"

 

"No."

 

InuYasha sighed in relief.

 

"Oh wait...Yeah. I just lied and said you weren't around."

 

InuYasha was shocked. He stood up abruptly and put his clothes on. Kikyo peeked out from the bathroom.

 

"Where are you going?" she pouted.

 

"Out. To visit the people you told I wasn't around. They needed me and I deserted them. You could have told me they called!"

 

Kikyo pouted some more, "I didn't want things like that to come between us."

 

"That's it! You know what? We're through."

 

InuYasha stormed to the door but before he left he called over his shoulder,” I'll come back within the week to get my stuff."

 

Kikyo burst into tears as the door slammed behind the back of that hot, orgasmic inu hanyou. She loved making love with him. She loved showing him off to other females. But she didn't love his soul. She didn't appreciate him.

InuYasha drove down the still bustling streets of Tokyo. No matter what time it was Tokyo's streets were always jammed up and he got stuck in three traffic jams on his way to the shrine.

 

"Damn it." InuYasha cursed under his breath as the cars slugged forward.

'Kagome was supposed to be up half an hour ago. What happened?' Kouga pondered as he poured a cup of coffee. Work had kept him up all night and his five o'clock shadow had appeared quite clearly. He had showered and changed but he hadn't shaved. He'd do that tomorrow.

 

After another hour Kouga was getting worried. Kagome had missed most of her shift at the morning job she had on Tuesdays. Where was she? Kouga pounded up the stairs to the master bedroom where he heard Kagome fall asleep on only hours previous. She was lying on the bed, face up. A look of peace had come across her angelic face and her body looked relaxed.

 

There was just one problem with that picture.

 

She wasn't breathing.

 

Kouga rushed to her side and checked her wrist and neck.

 

Her pulse was gone.

 

Kouga grabbed the phone and dialed 911.

Sango picked up the ringing phone. She heard Kouga's broken voice and managed to sooth him enough to understand what he was saying.

 

When she heard it she dropped the phone. Then she fell to her knees and began to sob. Miroku came to her and asked what was wrong. He heard Kouga yelling if Sango was all right. Miroku picked up the phone and heard the news. He managed to keep enough of his head to tell Kouga they would pick Souta up and meet him at the shrine.

Souta didn't know what was happening. One minute he was sitting in class working on his math and the next he was sitting in Miroku's car while they sped to the shrine. Sango was crying uncontrollably. Miroku was white. He gripped the steering wheel so hard his knuckles were even whiter.

 

"What happened?"

 

What he heard next he couldn't stand. Like Sango he began to sob uncontrollably.

InuYasha arrived at the shrine to find a dark blue Sebring outside in the driveway. He recognized it as Miroku's.

 

He also saw a silver convertible and he guessed it was Kagome's. There was also an ambulance.

 

Suddenly medics came bursting out the front door with a body strapped to the stretcher. Miroku and Sango came out after. Miroku was carrying Souta and behind them, taking up the rear was the one person InuYasha hoped to never see again.

 

"Kouga." he growled. Miroku and Kouga stopped before they had steeped into the ambulance. Miroku lifted Souta up to Sango.

 

"What do you want here jackass?" Kouga sneered.

 

"Why are YOU here?" InuYasha demanded.

 

"He lives with Kagome. Kouga is also Kagome's SUPPORTIVE boyfriend." Miroku snapped at his former friend.

 

"What?!"

 

"You heard him. I'm her boyfriend."

 

"Ok that's it I'm coming with you." InuYasha glared at Kouga, "If only to keep his hands off Kagome."

 

Kouga returned the glare, “Since when have you cared?"

 

Miroku climbed into the ambulance.

 

"What do you mean?"

 

"You never cared when Miroku and Sango and Kagome called to ask for your help."

 

Kouga climbed into the ambulance behind Miroku. InuYasha charged in after him.

They arrived at the hospital and were told to wait in the waiting room. Kouga paced. Miroku hugged Sango while she cried. Inuyasha sat down next to Souta who moved to stand up and pace with Koga.

 

After many hours of fretting the doctor emerged. Kouga instantly approached her.

 

"How is she?" his worry showed clearly in his eyes.

 

"Kagome will be fine. You must have missed her pulse. She is awake now so if you wish you can visit her now."

 

"Thank you!" Sango stood and hugged Dr Kaede, "You've been so helpful Kaede!"

 

Kaede smiled, "I just do my duty."

 

Kouga entered Kagome's room to see her propped up. She brightened when she saw her boyfriend.

 

"Hey." she whispered.

 

"How's my sweetheart?" Kouga crooned. Kagome smiled.

 

Sango walked in and squealed, "Oh thank kami! Don't you dare EVER do that to me again or I will kill myself just to go after your hide!"

 

Kagome gave Sango a mock glare that didn't hold and became laughter between the two women.

 

"You ok Kags?" Miroku asked.

 

"I'm fine now Roku."

 

Sango kissed him on the cheek and then slapped him as he fondled his girlfriend.

 

InuYasha peered in, "Hey Kags."

 

Kagome stared at him, "What...do you...want?"

 

"I wanted to know if you were okay."

 

"Well I'm fine."

 

"I was wondering as well...Would you be my girlfriend?"

 

Kouga growled and stepped forward but before he could open his mouth to retort Kagome's voice cut through.

 

"InuYasha I have one thing to say to you. No. You deserted us when we needed you."

 

"But Kagome...Kikyo never told me you guys called."

 

"Ah Inuyasha no baka! YOU never called us! YOU never visited! I bet you didn't even bother to ask if we called!" Kagome spat angrily.

 

InuYasha looked like he'd been slapped. He looked down quickly before looking right at her, "I was offering you the chance to be MY girlfriend! Wherever I went in Kyoto girls asked me if I was single. Yet YOU turn me down? How ungrateful."

 

Kouga stood to face InuYasha, "Listen here jackass Kagome and the others called you and tried to visit but you were too busy? What are you too good for us? Answer THAT bastard!"

 

InuYasha trembled before he turned on his heel and stalked toward the door. He made sure it closed with an angry slam.

 

Kagome sighed and Kouga approached her.

 

"Kagome there is something I have been wanting to ask for a really long time. And now that I came so close to losing you I don't want to wait."

 

He knelt down beside her bed and took out a midnight blue, velvet covered box. Upon being opened Kagome's eyes sparkled with joyous tears as she gazed upon...

 

An engagement ring with a diamond that had her birthstone and Kouga's birthstone on either side.

 

"Marry me?"

 

Kagome squealed in happiness and threw her arms around her fiancé.

 

"Did you think I would say no?"

 

Souta tugged on his big sisters' short sleeve, "Kagome can I move back into the shrine. Not that I didn't have fun watching Sango try to kill Miroku for being perverted but I really, really miss you."

 

Kagome reached over and wrapped her left arm around Souta's neck. She pulled him and Kouga into one-armed hugs.

 

"Of course."

It was midnight. Sango and Miroku had left and Kouga had taken Souta home to the shrine. Kagome had been sitting in her bed reading a novel when a knock at the window caught her attention. She looked over and into the golden eyes of InuYasha.

 

Kagome crept over to the window and opened it. She stuck her head out and asked irritably, "Yes?"

 

"Kagome I came to apologize. And I would like to keep my offer up for you to be my girlfriend. So...will you?"

 

Kagome looked down at her hand but not quick enough that InuYasha didn't see and look too. He saw and engagement ring on her left hand and felt his knees get weak.

 

"When did he ask?"

 

"Just after you left."

 

InuYasha nodded, "I shall be leaving town tonight. So I shall say goodbye tonight."

 

Kagome kissed his cheek as a goodbye. Inuyasha nodded to her.

 

The he was gone, disappeared into the night.

 

Kagome sighed in contentedness. She left her window open and climbed back into bed. She picked up her novel and pick up where she had left off. She had been at the last sentence when InuYasha had knocked and now she read it.

 

"And he shrank back into the darkness. Never to be seen again by her. She sighed in contentedness and began the travel to her hometown."
