“You have already eaten?” Trojan asked as she played with her half empty plate.
“No, I-yes I have…” She lied quickly. He looked at her with his piercing eyes.
“Yes, I'm sure Adekai keeps you well fed.” He told her playing along.
“Yes…yes he does…” She answered as he stood.
“I'll be seeing you then…” Trojan walked away and silently motioned Adekai towards Addi. Adekai looked over at her.
`She's starving herself…do you realize that?' Trojan asked his friend.
`No…I hadn't noticed…' Adekai said somewhat startled. Every time he set out a cup of blood out for her it was always empty. She must have been dumping it out the window or something.
`Why does she not drink?' Trojan asked him.
`That is a question that even I do not know…' Adekai stood and walked over to Addi. He sat down in the empty seat next to her and another female vampire. “I'm sorry.”
Addi looked up startled. “Huh?”
“I said I am sorry.” He repeated.
“It's ok…” She mumbled under her breath.
“I just worry that's all.”
“I know…”
“You are not hungry love?” Adekai motioned to her cup. She looked down at it.
“The last cup you gave me filled me up pretty good.”
“Yeah…?” He looked at her skeptically. “That's funny, I didn't smell any blood on your breath the last few times I have given you a cup.”
“Oh, yeah? I uh, brush my teeth after. You know to get the after taste out.”
“Yeah, yeah…where is this toothbrush?”
“Oh, I uh use my fingers, you know…” She went back to playing with her food.
“And this toothpaste?”
“I uh, well I use water.”
“Do you now?” He looked her in the eyes. “I do wish that you would stop lying to me…where have you been pouring out the blood?”
“Out the window.” She answered and then clamped her hand over her mouth. “That's not fair you dirty cheat!”
“Life's not fair.” He told her and then picked up the cup and held it to her. “Drink.” He commanded. Addi took the cup from him slowly. “Now.”
Addi raised the cup to her lips and took a sip. The taste was bitterly sweet and sour. She looked at him with pleading eyes.
“All of it.” He told her. She tipped the cup and when it was all over she threw the cup at his head. He caught it and glared over at her. He set the cup down and stared into her eyes. It was oddly peculiar. Her eyes seemed to change color with her mood. They were gold and green. Well actually one eye was blue and the other was green.
“May I be excused?” She asked.
“No.” He answered and she slumped in her chair her arms over her chest. He giggled at her antics. She mocked him.
“So Adekai when are you going to take her for your own?” A shyly handsome male vampire asked him. Addi's eyes widened. “Cause if you not going to claim her then may I have her?” He asked with a laugh. Adekai's hand went under her hair and lifting it let it fall in strands back down her back.
“No, I assure that I have already claimed her for my own so hands off.” Addi's temper flared at his words.
“You have not you pig!” She yelled.
“That doesn't mean I won't.” He told her with a malicious smile.
“Not if I don't let you.” She told him angrily.
“I'm afraid if I said so then you wouldn't have a choice.”
Her voice went quiet but it hurt Adekai. “I would rather die.” Her teeth gritted she turned from him.
“You may be excused…” He told her. She got up tears in her eyes and ran up the marble stairs. Adekai looked over at everyone and sighed before excusing himself. He could hear Addi in the room weeping. He opened the door and closed it. She looked over at him tears stuck in her eyes. How she hated him, hated every fiber in his body. “Did you really mean that?”
She didn't know what she meant. She didn't know what to tell him. So instead she looked down at her shaking hands. “I don't know what I meant. I was impulsive and I'm sorry.” Adekai knelt down by her and took her hands in his.
“Addi? Really…did you mean that?”
“I don't know!” She yelled. She looked at him, and his eyes softened. Why was it that broken hearts always strayed? He pulled her into his embrace and hugged her. “I'm sorry.” She told him as he hugged her tighter.
“For what?” He asked her.
“I didn't mean to say that really I didn't.”
Adekai smiled contently. He had feared that she didn't want to be with him but know he knew differently. He pulled her away from his body and smiled at her. “It's ok Addi, I understand.”
She laughed for an unknown reason. A knock came at the door and Adekai rose to get it. Trojan stood there with a note in his hand. “This is for young Addi…' He told Adekai giving it to him. He bowed and left. Adekai handed the note to Addi who looked at it up and down. Attached to a black rose was a small message.
She opened the message and read it to herself:
Dearest Addi,
I write to give you a proposition. Since my minion failed in the killing of you I would like to meet you in the old abandoned opera house. You know the one. I should like to see you there and in perfect health.
King Kidious
“What's it say?” Adekai asked.
“It's the King.” Addi told him folding the note up. “He says he wants me to meet him at the abandoned Opera house.”
“For what?”
“What do you think?” Addi asked him. “He wants to fight me to the death obviously. It's important that I am dead.”
“Yes that seems to be of some importance to him doesn't it.”
“Of course! I'm the only one who know's how to defeat him.”
“Yes I suppose that's very vital information…” Adekai said in thought. Addi suddenly stood and yelled for Trojan. “What is it?”
“Yes Addi?” Trojan asked walking to the door.
“Who delivered this message?”
“A young fox demon.” He told her. “He was about yay high and had long hair.” Addi's eyes widened and she slammed the door.
“What?” Adekai asked as she turned around.
