Chapter 1: Fallen
___________________________________________________________ _________________
Deep cerulean eyes danced over the scene before them. Night. Darkness. When all the mortals of this world would sleep. How she wished to sleep. But no. All she could do was watch.
A girl sat on the roof top of the old church, staring at the city before her.
Long raven locks cascaded down her back as the slow, gentle breeze roused them, sweeping them across her face.
Pushing them back she revealed a porcelain skinned face, perfect in every detail, resembling that of a young woman.
But she was far from it. She was centuries old.
How old you say?
Well.
She remembered the day Jesus himself was born as if it were yesterday.
So, to put it lightly, well over two thousand years.
But being what she was, an angel, even if she was a fallen one, had stopped the aging process completely once she reached adulthood.
She flexed her shoulders feeling the dull ache of having sat upon this roof top for hours now.
Slowly, she rose. Straitening the long black form fitting coat that hung down to her knees. She adjusted her tight black vest that covered her upper half, stopping just bellow her belly button, showing off a strip of golden tanned skin, the result of spending hours in the sun.
Tight black trousers covered her legs nicely before disappearing into the knee high leather boots that covered them.
Black.
That’s what she was.
That’s all she would ever be, it seemed.
Stealing one last glance at the sleeping city, she turned and walked the stone ledge back to where the door was.
Turning around the large statue that sat at the corner she was stopped by a familiar face that simply smirked at her.
Slightly shaggy blonde hair hung before his crystal green eyes, the set off of his also angelic features. He stood, leaned against the door that led back into the church. His dress was similar to hers, only changed slightly to fit that of a male.
He stood and took a few steps toward her before crossing his arms over his well built chest and gave her a knowing look.
“What do you want Gabriel?” She asked irritably.
“Huuuuh, Kagome. Kagome, Kagome, Kagome. When will you ever learn?” He asked the smirk falling back into place.
“Know what?” She asked as she made her way around him and towards the door.
“Know that no matter how hard you stare you’ll never get what you want.” He said as he turned towards her.
She stopped, clenching her fists in slight anger before turning back to face him.
“Look; I don’t know what your talking about. I just like to come up here to think sometimes. That’s all.” She replied huffily.
“Pfft. And I’m Lucifer himself. I know what its like. Remember I’m fallen just like you. I want it too.” He said more sincerely.
“Want what?”
“The freedom. To not have any burden what so ever. To be…normal. You think I like being what I am? Killing off the scum of this earth just to please him. Huh? You forget that I was once an angel under god as well? I know what its like.”
“You know nothing.” She spat as she turned her head to look back over the city.
“Oh, but I do. I may not know why you were fallen, but I know exactly what its like.”
“Come find me when it’s time to head out.” She said curtly as she turned and opened the door to the church.
A slight chill and sting washed over her as she entered the old building.
Sure, places like this were meant to be holy, and not allow a creature of darkness to pass, but the fact that she was once an angel herself dulled the resistance. That, and the fact that the church hadn’t been used in at least a hundred years.
She thought back to what Gabriel said.
It was the same damn thing she had heard for the past couple hundred years she had known him.
From the day she had fallen.
Became…Black.
Th at day was one she would never forget.
It burned. Oh, God it burned. The never ending feeling of falling filled her stomach as she made her descent. The tearing of the air around her, the flames, they burned her so badly. It hurt. Oh, how much it hurt. Her nakedness did not help to ward off the burning as she fell towards the ground. To earth.
Feeling a heavy weight grow in the pit of her stomach, she knew what was about to happen.
Bracing herself, she squeezed her eyes shut as she was about to make impact.
Rock and earth moved, burned, broke, under her as she crashed to the unforgiving ground.
Broken, bruised, and bleeding she lay there, gasping for breath as she tried to adjust to the atmosphere that surrounded here.
The difference of the air between the heavens and earth was astounding.
She curled into herself, hoping, praying that the pain would go away.
But she knew, no amount of praying would help her now. Not ever.
She heard someone approach her. Most possibly the one who had been awaiting her arrival.
She felt her wing contract as a sudden cold breezed washed over the area.
Her wings.
Her beautiful white wings.
Both of them easily larger than herself. Together being the length of a bus.
They hurt too.
They began to feel oddly cold.
She looked up into the face of an angel, a perfect young man with blonde hair and green eyes. He crouched down to the naked girl before him and gently grazed her cheek with the back of his hand.
He held out a hand to her, which she took, and helped her up, only to have her wince in pain as she stood.
“It hurts…” She stammered as she wrapped her arms around herself in an attempt to cover her nudity.
“I know. But you have to bear with it. What’s about to happen is gonna hurt a lot worse than anything that’s happened so far.” He said as he embraced her tightly.
“Wha…?” She said before she felt a shooting pain down her spine.
Then again.
Again.
It grew more painfully with every surge, until it was as if her back was being ripped apart.
‘What’s happening?’ She thought as she held onto the boy.
“Your wings…” He mumbled lightly in her ear.
She turned her head to she her wings darkening ever so slightly every time a surge of pain went though her.
No.
They were turning black.
She knew this would happen, but…just no.
Tears fell from her eyes from the pain as she witnessed her soft white wings turn into a deep glossy black as they flexed uncontrollably under the change.
Now, this hurt.
Blackness crept into her vision slowly as she felt the pain take over her body before she slumped forward into the body supporting her.
She shook her head at the memory.
Great. Now she was thinking of that again. Just when was she ever gonna get a break around here?
Never.
That’s when.
She opened The side door to the church before stepping onto the cool pavement of the street.
Earth.
This is where she had been for the past five hundred years.
Working in the night, killing off the lowest of the low, the humans that deserved not to live before the creatures from hell, demons, crept up to feast upon them.
That was her job.
She worked with Gabriel in the night, under the watchful eye of the devil.
Lucifer. Naraku.
Whichever you wished to call him, he was still the form of pure evil.
She hated this.
Living the way she was. Or wasn’t
Either way, she would wait.
Wait with the rest of those who had fallen just like her for the day they were given their second chance.
The day he would come and end it all.
