And so, Kagome and Rin started on their quest to the all-famous hot spring. It didn't take long for them to get there, let me tell you. Soon they were scrubbing off all their worries and chatting away.

“Kagome,” Rin said, sinking into the heated water. “How are you and InuYasha doing?”

Rin took notice of the way Kagome cringed and furiously scrubbed her hair into a bubbly mess. “That bad, is it?”

“Yeah.” Kagome sighed. “Found out he was messing around with that Maiyu girl. I mean, jeez, you think he could be just a little straightforward with me? Who was it, after all this time, that put up with Kikyou's drama until she finally passed on? Me! It's Kikyou all over again . . . Minus the trying to kill me and all.” Kagome's face scrunched up in anger as she vented, her eyebrow developing a tell-tale tick.

Rin nodded solemnly and continued to lather her hair. Stupid InuYasha.

“So, Rin-chan, how is our darling Sesshoumaru-sama fairing of late?” Kagome smiled and dunked her head, ridding her mind temporarily of InuYasha's stupidity. “Hopefully he is not working too hard.”

Though I wouldn't mind working him hard . . . Bad Kagome, bad! Kagome's eyes shifted nervously from Rin to the conditioner, trying to see if Rin could possibly read minds. She couldn't, thank God.

“Oh, he's fine. He is currently in the Neutral Zone conducting treaties with the other lords. I presume Lord Kouga will be there.” Rin giggled at Kagome's puckered face. “I forgot you haven't forgiven him since that one `after-party' after Naraku's defeat. You don't handle your liquor that well, do you?”

“Who are you to be talking about liquor, Rin? You're still much too young to be drinking . . . Unless there is some secret you haven't told me yet?” Kagome grumbled. She had slapped the living tar out of that wolf. He sure learned a lesson about kissing an unwilling drunk woman.

Rin squeaked and floundered for an excuse. “Jaken-sama once got a hold of Sesshoumaru-sama's special rice wine and . . . and . . .”

“Yeah, yeah, Rin, I heard your excuses before. Don't forget who helped save your hide whenever you got into trouble.” Kagome grinned. “Who was it that took Sesshoumaru-sama's boots and put baby Jaken's in them?”

“That's not fair, Kagome.” Rin lifted her nose almost regally. “I was much younger then, still partially mute, and with the brain of a kid. I didn't know that they would stink-up his shoes that bad. I was just excited to show him my new friends.”

Kagome hummed away her laughter and finished bathing.

A few days later Sesshoumaru showed up in all his glory, delicious armor, sashes and all... “Where is Rin?”

“Sleeping, Sesshoumaru. Would you like to join me for some tea?” Kagome smiled and led him into her home. “She should wake up soon.”

“Very well,” Sesshoumaru sat down upon some silk pillows. “For a priestess you have quite a collection of fine items. From whom did you receive such silk?”

“I received all in this house, also the house itself, from thankful people. Most of the time it was travelers, thanking me for my part in the fight against Naraku, who brought me such items.” Kagome poured the tea into well made ceramic cups. “I hope you like this tea. I brew it semi-thin. Green tea is harsh to me, even though I have had it all my life.”

“It shall suffice.” Sesshoumaru grunted, sipping the hot beverage leisurely. “Where is the hanyou?”

“He is off somewhere with his new woman.” Kagome replied back, trying to act as nonchalant as she could possibly be.

Sesshoumaru's brows rose considerably. “New woman, you say?”

Kagome nodded and blew on her tea. “She is daughter to the Head of the Village.” Kagome sighed. “She is quite beautiful.”

“Here I thought you would be his bitch.” Sesshoumaru replied. Kagome knew he didn't mean bitch in a bad way. It was just a term for his species for `mate' or `lover'. That was what she was taught, but she wasn't for certain. “You were always following after him; gallivanting in those God-awful pieces of cloth you called a `uniform'. No matter, though.” Sesshoumaru set his tea down and made to stand. “Awaken Rin; it is time she and I returned to the Western estates.”

In a flourish of silks and hair he lifted himself from the table and strode out the door. He was never a person to hold a conversation long.

Actually, it surprised Kagome that Sesshoumaru had even lasted that long. Usually all she could get from him was a grunt, or a `hn', or sometimes even not that. Maybe she'd get a blank stare, or when he was semi-talkative he would put in a few words then leave. How odd . . .

Thankfully it didn't take long to rouse Rin. Once she heard her beloved father-figure's name she was dressed and ready for a day of travel.

“Won't you come with us?” Rin pouted, twisting her fingers in her fur coat in agitation. “I don't have much company. The females there do not like me much and the young men of the house torment me with bugs in my hair!”

“Well, tell Sesshoumaru they are picking on you.” Kagome admonished and shooed Rin's hand from ruining the coat.

“I have!” Rin squeaked. Her hands flew up in the air in distress. “He says it's just because I am young and female and I scare easily.”

“He is probably right then.” Kagome laughed and tied Rin's hair up in a pony tail. “Hurry up or I'm afraid I'll have to leak information on a certain girl and some certain baby frogs.”

An affronted gasp escaped from Rin's lips. “You wouldn't . . .”

“I don't know . . .” Kagome replied in a sing-song voice. Rin only huffed a little and hugged the older woman.

“I'll come back and visit. Sesshoumaru-sama will allow it. I can always pull the whole `I do not understand about my monthlies' thing.” Rin snickered mischievously. Oh how Shippo had corrupted her. Silly fox.

“Or, you could just ask him?” The priestess grinned and ushered her out the door where a just-fed Ah-Un waited for her. “See you again, Rin!”

Rin had barely the time to yell a quick “Bye!” before being thrust high above the tree line.

Kagome watched as Rin was nearly vaulted into the atmosphere by the overzealous dragon.

Smiling softly to herself, she walked back into her home, burrowing under the covers to finish her sketch of the day.

The weeks following were uneventful. Except for the hanyou's marriage to the Maiyu girl, which she did not attend, and Sango announcing her pregnancy, which she did attend.

It was the end of spring now; the mushy earth had hardened considerably to its normal consistency. Kagome and the others headed towards the lake to escape the heat of the near-summer sun.

Miroku chased Sango around the waters edge, poking her ribs and nuzzling her stomach. It was sweet . . . in a near too sweet way. But Kagome knew she was just being jealous.

Rin had come back to visit and was playing in the water with Shippo, who had grown from his small, baby fox, size to that of a normal boy his “age”.

“Rin,” A strong voice called. “Do not stray far from the lake's edge.”

“I won't, Sesshoumaru-sama!” Rin called back and dunked Shippo's head under. “HA! Take that, foul fox! I, Lady Rin, have bested you in a water figh—eeek!” And under Rin went. Nobody really took notice; but you could almost see the amusement everyone had, even Sesshoumaru, at the two young people playing.

“So, Sesshoumaru, how have you been lately?” Sesshoumaru's eyes darted from the skin of her neck to her curls of dark hair on her head. Well hey, nobody would notice.

“I have faired relatively well, priestess. I hear the mutt has taken the other bitch as a wife.” Sesshoumaru snorted and plucked at some weeds. “He is a disgrace.”

“Indeed he is.” Kagome murmured.

Kagome tilted her head back so she was looking at the tall youkai. “How long will you and Rin stay?” Realizing the possibility of sounding rude, Kagome winced and spluttered. “Not saying I don't want you guys here but I would like to know if I should make you both beds to sleep in.”

“She desires a few days.” Sesshoumaru brushed his bangs from his eyes. Due to the heated weather he discarded the heavy armor and tugged his shirt open at the top for a bit of fresh air. Kagome nearly melted, and it wasn't from the heat. How often was it that you got to see such a delicious specimen of youkai hot, disheveled, and almost sweaty?

Soon Sesshoumaru was lost to thought and Kagome walked off to join Rin and Shippo. It was almost dinner time, after all.

“Sesshoumaru,” The woman from his dreams purred, an arm snaking around his waist, only to have the woman's thumb twist itself in his sash. “Would you like to play?”

He reached behind him and tugged her to face him, chest to chest. When her face rose to him, cherry lips pursed to a playful frown and he growled lustily as he bent to capture the delicate petals. Suddenly her eyes flew open.

Sea-blue crashed with gold.

“Sesshoumaru . . .” She murmured.

“Sesshoumaru?” Was he still dreaming?

“Sesshoumaru?” Odd, his dreams never were this persistent.

“Earth to Lord Sesshoumaru?”

“What, woman?” Sesshoumaru ground out, eyes shut tight to ward off the lingering daydream. Since when did he daydream about his dreams? God this was getting much too confusing to handle.

“I was trying to ask you if you would like to join us for some roasted chicken. Rin and I are about done cooking them.” Kagome smirked.

Sesshoumaru sniffed delicately, scenting out the tangy and spicy seasonings they added. “I suppose this will have to suffice for now.” Kagome rolled her eyes.

“Of course, Sesshoumaru-sama.”

Oh what she didn't know.

It didn't take long before Rin was a usual at Kagome's village. She was also becoming one of the favorites of the young men, Kagome being a favorite as well, to flirt with and talk to. Although, it was mostly just to tease the young women. It was humorous to watch as the blush rose from their necks up to their cheeks.

Soon, Kagome was visiting Rin as well, shooing the youkai boys away when they pestered the poor uncomfortable girl. It also didn't take long before Sesshoumaru started treating Kagome more than an old ally. Kagome would make an odd comment on the decorations of the Western Estates and Sesshoumaru would make an odd comment about her decorating skills. They would provoke one-another until either they were so flustered they were upset or Kagome would crack a joke to lighten the mood.

Rin, of course, was excited to see the change of emotions between her father-figure and her sort-of mother-figure. Maybe, after all, she would get her wish.

AN: Okay, so I know, I KNOW, I fiddle-farted with Kagome's birthday. >_> I just think it's prettier and more um . . . poetic (?) if it's in the winter. Plus, it fit the flow of the writing (at the time). >_<

….And I also fiddled with Sesshoumaru's like towards Kagome *gasp* >=3 the reason he's so easy to talk to her is because he doesn't see her like he sees other humans. After all, who was it that landed the `killing blow'? You have to have made a little respect from that right?
