InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Own up ❯ Forgot a spot ( Chapter 5 )
[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]
Okay, someone sue me. I only write when I'm bored. Lucky for you that I'm bored huh?
I checked, I still don't own Inuyasha. Which is still sad. Inuyasha and all of the characters are property of Rumiko Takahashi's and she's not sharing. S'ok. I wouldn't either. Let's get the ball rollin' loves.
Chapter 5- Forgot a spot
After several minutes of Inuyasha teasing, most of the gang had arrived with their food and as custom, they were all wearing at least one item of school clothing. Each time one of them sat down and heard the Inuyasha teasing they had to ask who they were talking about and it would start all over.
“Shut up already.” Inuyasha said moodily. He had had enough teasing for today. (I promise that that is grammatically correct.)
Several smirks and giggles later the others had turned to other topics of conversation; schedules, new hair colors, latest GA clothes, the different shades of purple.
“Hey guys.” Said Sango's voice from behind Inuyasha. `Finally' he thought. Sango was greeted by her friends as she sat down next to Miroku between him and Inuyasha. Thus, Kagome's problems start. One, she had no food, two, she had only one friend who had forgotten to get her a seat and three, she had no seat. `I'm so nervous I can't even make a proper complaint list' she thought.
Kagome stood stupidly behind Sango for half a second before turning her head to look for a place to get food, slightly hurt. It looked as if Sango, who had been sorry about Ayame, was not sorry enough to be friends with her.
Kagome felt a hand on her shoulder.
“Hey,” a male voice said from behind her. Kagome turned quickly. “ Are you looking to get some food?” A tall brown haired voice said. Kagome nodded. “C'mon. I was just about to get some food as well. I'll show you.”
He took Kagome over to the food corner. Looking at it now Kagome felt stupid for missing it beforehand. “I'm sorry.” She said to the boy, who looked surprised. “First day jitters. I was in here yesterday. I must have just forgotten.” She finished.
He laughed. “Don't worry. It happens. I'm Hojo by the way.” He said to her.

“Right, Kagome?” Sango asked mid-joke. “Kagome? Kagome? Where'd she go?” Inuyasha looked around surprised. He was suddenly aware of her missing scent. He felt a jolt go through him as he saw Hojo Whatshisface (of course that's not his real last name) walking her towards the food counter.
“Sango?” Inuyasha asked. `Why is she walking away? What happened?'
“I don't know Inuyasha. She was with me a minute ago.”
“She's over there.” Said Sono.
“With that Hojo kid.” Finished Scar.
“Huh? But why?” ask Ereka.
The group looked at each other surprised and annoyed. Nakada looked around at them astonished giving Aaron a `how stupid can smart people be?' look.
“She didn't have a seat.” She said simply, picking up a piece of toast of Aaron's plate.
“Didn't have…” Inuyasha started confused.
“A seat, yes.” Nakada said amused.
Inuyasha looked around the table his eyes widening. He had been sitting with his group for so long they had already established seats. Now that he looked, there were no seats open.
“Um…oh.” He said blankly. Nakada laughed. “You'll have to make it up to her later Sango.” She said.
“Huh? Why me?” Sango asked confused.
“What to you mean why?” asked Aaron also amused, “You were the one who led her over here than left her standing behind you looking like an idiot.”
“Um…oh.” Sango flushed. `How stupid am I?'
Aaron glanced at Nakada before the two burst out laughing. It was just entirely too funny. They had forgotten that even though they had resolved to be more open, they had forgotten to actually do it.

“I'm Kagome” she said.
“Oh, I know.” Kagome blushed. “You heard too?”
He chuckled. “I don't know who didn't.” He laughed again when Kagome groaned.
They continued getting their food, standing in silence for a moment.
“Don't worry” said Hojo with a smile, looking back at her.
“What?” Kagome asked, not because she didn't understand what he had been saying but more out of surprise that he knew she had been exploding with worry on the inside.
“Don't worry.” He said again, nodding at her. “I'm sure the explanation is simpler than you think. You shouldn't worry.”
“Um Hojo, I don't understand what you're saying.” Kagome looked at him worried for his sanity.
“You don't?” He seemed genuinely surprised, watching Kagome shake her head. “Damn, most people do.” He spotted the look on Kagome's face. “To tell you the truth, I don't know what I mean. You're the one who's supposed to.”
“Earth to Hojo, you're making minus forty sense, earth to Hojo, are you there Hojo?” Kagome said jokingly worried but in reality very confused and frustrated.
Hojo laughed. “Kagome did you read the brochure before coming here?”
“Um...yeah.” Kagome said, off set by the odd question.
“You remember it said that the students at GA were often gifted and talented?” he asked satisfied when she nodded. “It doesn't always mean academically. Some of the students are, well, gifted.” He said.
“Hojo I still don't-”
“I mean that they can have special talents. Like being able to see into future and stuff.”
“You're not serious?”
“Very serious. Inuyasha, Shippo, Kilala, and Koga are all demons. Your friend Nakada can see into peoples future and I am an oracle of some sort. I can give people advice but not know what about or when they'll need it. Most people tend to understand what I'm talking about when I don't.”
Kagome took a moment to digest all of this. She was in a school of freaks, for freaks and it was her perfect school. “Is everyone here, you know?”
“No. It's possible to get in without a talent but unlikely. Most people's talents are ordinary. Sango and Miroku are excellent fighters. Yours should show up soon. I hope I'm around when it does. As I was saying, though, you shouldn't w- oh, hello Sango.”
Kagome was in half a mind not to turn around and face Sango but on the whole it would be better not to start losing friends when she felt she was up to a grand total of two.
“Hey Hojo.” Sango said quickly. “Kagome,” she said more slowly “I am so so so sorry. I didn't realize there where enough seats. We've just been sitting like that for so long and I just didn't think.”
She was still talking as Kagome whispered goodbye and thank you to Hojo, walking with Sango. “You should have seen me though. I'm asking you a questions and all of the sudden I realize that you're not there. Then Nakada and Aaron started cracking up hysterically. Tell you what, I take you shopping later.”
Kagome didn't mention that Sango had already told her that she was taking her shopping. She has just figured out what Hojo had meant. “The explanation is simpler than you think. You shouldn't worry.”
Getting back to the table Sango sat down on the right side of Miroku and Kagome sat between Inuyasha and Sango, at Inuyasha's left.
Every laughed about how they hadn't realized how there weren't enough seats left. After a couple of minutes Kagome found a moment to talk to Nakada.
“So you can see into people's future?” Kagome asked.
“Yes.”
“What kind of things can you see?”
“Well I know that Inuyasha is about to stop himself from asking you how many crème puffs you think there are in the world.” Sure enough Inuyasha had his mouth open and was looking towards Kagome as if about to ask something.
“Not fair, Nakada.” Said Aaron over the outburst of laughter.
“But the problem is that I change people by telling what the future is. For instance, would Inuyasha still have stopped himself if I hadn't called his ridiculous question?”
Kagome took a moment to think about that. She stopped quickly because it made her head hurt.
“Did Hojo tell you that I can see into the future?” Nakada asked.
“Right after giving me some weird advice.”
Nakada laughed. “Oracles tend to do that. You should listen to what they have to say though. They can be very wise. You're not the first person to come to GA without knowing. They don't tell the teachers either. Imagine the shock when you're up there teaching and a forth of the class can read the answers to the questions in your mind.” Nakada laughed.
The day passed without remarkable incident. Kagome didn't have to worry about finding classes because a different member of Inuyasha's crew had come to walk her to her next class. Actually she was surprised when each and every single one of them had come up to her to apologize for last night. By the time Kikyo got around to doing it Kagome was already well aware of what was going on.
That night Kagome layed down much happier than the previous day. School started on a Thursday so that meant that tomorrow was Saturday. She had plans to go shopping with Sango and Nakada.
`Maybe,' she thought, `just maybe, I belong here. It would be nice to belong here.'
Hey, I know this chapter didn't have to much of Inuyasha in here but I wanted to show how much of a challenge it is for a new kid to fit in and for old hands to become friends with them. It's hard both ways. Next chapter will have more to do with their relationship than this one did.
