InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Past Best Forgotten....Future Most Looked For ❯ Western Palace ( Chapter 3 )
Kagome turned around and saw that Sesshomaru had left. She decided it was time to return to the village. There she could busy herself with chores and the children. `Yeah', she thought, `the children will definitely help me forget my encounter with Sesshomaru. Besides I bet they and the others are worried about me.'
After she buried Inuyasha she had given birth to her son, Caesarion. He was a miniature of Inuyasha, but he didn't have the cute doggy ears. No he had the claws, eyes, and fangs of his father. Yet he had the hair color and patience of his mother. She never really knew why she had named him that. It just came to her mind when Sango asked what the child's name was going to be. He was very precious to her seeing as how he was all she had left of the hanyou. She had the Tetsaiga but it along with the Shikon no Tama was destined to belong to her son. She often cried herself to sleep knowing her child would never know his father except through stories and memories. She never wanted him to know the pains of being a guardian of the people. She wanted him to be happy.
As she reached the edge of the village, Shippo jumped into her arms. "Where have you been? The others and I have been worried about you!", screamed the kitsune cub.
"I'm alright Shippo really, I just went to visit Inuyasha is all", the young girl sadly yet assuredly said. She didn't want to tell him about Sesshomaru. She would talk to either Kaede or Sango about that later when the opportunity arose.
She gently set the fox child down on the ground and eagerly took his hand in hers. She was going to have to get onto Miroku for letting him wonder around by himself. Especially since the Shikon was completed. She had adopted the orphaned demon right after she and Inuyasha became mates. He had definitely been a big help in teaching her how to be motherly. He even helped her now by watching out for Caesarion when she or another couldn't. She was so deeply lost in her thoughts that she barely even noticed that Shippo was tugging her the other way. She accidently had passed Kaede's hut.
When she walked into the old wooden hut she was bombarded by the smell of stew. `MMM…', she thought, `What a wonderful time to be alive.' She sat down and eagerly took the steaming bowl. It was gone within a few seconds. Everyone was astonished that she ate that quickly. She hadn't really ate that much since Inuyasha's death.
"Man, Kagome-mama! You really were hungry!", screamed Shippo.
"Yeah I guess I was," the miko gently said.
After lunch Kagome decided to take Shippo and Caesarion for a walk in the forest. She felt like they hadn't had adequate time to spend together. The two were easily persuaded to go. They frolicked a few feet in front of her as they went deeper into the forest.
When they reached a meadow Kagome sat down and watched the children play together. She was happy that they could spend this time together and in their favorite place. A place that she and Inuyasha went to when they wanted time to themselves. They would especially go there after they found out that Kagome was pregnant with Caesarion. It was surrounded by a protective line of trees. The grass was especially high and brown from swaying in the sun. The meadow had a sweet smell of cherry blossoms and pine trees. It was like heaven on earth, and to Kagome it was.
Yet there was an evil ora ( A/N: Sorry guys I can't spell very well. Oh well back to the story.) and a feeling of something bad was going to happen crept over Kagome. It was so strong she could feel the hairs on the back of her neck stand straight on end. She decided to take the children and leave before whatever was out there came out in the open.
~*~*~*~*~ Someone watching in a nearby tree.~*~*~*~*~
How many times had he come here to watch her? She looked so peaceful and beautiful while she was with her children. Yes…. the children…. they were as carefree as she use to be. He had not seen her smile or laugh since Inuyasha had passed away. It seemed that when he left this world so did her soul. The first few months after she hardly ate, slept, or even spoke. It was quite annoying to see her slowly pass away. That is why he would come around. He could at least anger her enough to show that she still possessed life. The fire that burned in her eyes practically burned into your soul. She possessed such a passion for life that you could almost touch it with your hand. He remembered how angry she was when he destroyed the well leading back to her time. He thought it would be better if she stayed where he could keep an eye on her. He felt that if she returned home she could never grace the Feudal Era with her presence. A presence so intoxicating that he had almost fainted countless times from being around her. Her scent was that of cherry blossoms and roses. He would always imagine just holding her in his arms and taking in her sweet scent.
*~*~*~*Back to Kagome*~*~*~*
She could sense something was watching her. She didn't feel comfortable at all, yet she didn't want to alarm the children. They were enjoying themselves. She decided that it was about time for them to leave. As she turned around to summon the children a giant dragon came out from one of the edges of the forest. Kagome ran to the children as fast as she could and screamed for them to run as well. Shippo grabbed Caesarion and they both hid under the tree. Kagome grabbed her arrows and ran off in the opposite direction. She wanted to keep the dragon far from the children. She turned around to shoot an arrow but as she did the dragon whacked her bow from her hand with its tail. She scrambled for it only to be knocked to the ground. She was desperately trying to find a way to fight off the dragon without her weapon. As she started to get up again a claw ripped through her clothes and she felt a warm substance flow freely down her back. She fought to stay away from the next swing that threw her across the meadow into a tree. As Kagome was preparing for the final blow she saw a sudden flash of silver. She couldn't tell who it was but she knew it was a youkai. She barely saw the figure slay the dragon before she passed out.
