InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Paternal Love ❯ One-Shot
Disclaimer: <Insert standard disclaimer here.> (I couldn't be bothered....)
AN: (Ducks random items being thrown) I'm sorry! I'm sorry! I know I broke my promise of not posting anything new before I finished Double. I just haven't been in the mood to write it or any of my other things. Last night I just came up with this idea for a short little one shot, so here it is. A whole story without mentioning my sweet Inuyasha! It's a miracle! Now excuse me while I go threaten my muse once more for dragging me into this writers' block...

"Sesshoumaru-sama! Sesshoumaru-sama!" Rin cried joyously, interrupting the said demon lord from his thoughts.
Sesshoumaru looked down at the little girl from his perch on his favorite rock, reassuring her that she had his attention.
"Rin picked this for you, Sesshoumaru-sama!" she said, smiling at Sesshoumaru as she held out a wildflower.
Sesshoumaru smiled gently at Rin as he delicately plucked the flower from her fingers. "Thank you, Rin."
Rin smiled brightly at her guardian. "You're welcome!"
Sesshoumaru watched fondly as she ran out into the field once more, her arms stretched from her sides like a bird in flight.
The demon lord turned his gaze to the sky again.
Before he could collect his thoughts, however, a voice all too familiar cut through the peacefulness in the air.
"M'lord, it's getting late. Shall we be heading back to fix supper for the child?"
Sesshoumaru sighed. "Rin seems to be content at the moment. Jaken, go home and fix some soup from last night's meal. We'll be along in a bit," he said, never once taking his golden pools from the darkening sky.
"Yes, m'lord."
Once Sesshoumaru was certain Jaken was gone, he turned his attention to Rin. The fireflies had begun to come out, and Rin seemed to be dancing right along with them, laughing and moving about in a graceful manor that only a young child could possess.
Sesshoumaru smiled to himself at her pure, child-like mirth. "Rin," he called. "Come here."
Rin turned toward him and smiled. "Hai, Sesshoumaru-sama." She ran to him and crawled into his lap, wrapping her arms around him in a loving embrace.
"Rin loves you, Sesshoumaru-sama."
Sesshoumaru sat there looking at the child in his lap, completely stunned at this sensation. He felt a warmth pulsing through his veins like he had never felt before. He felt a strong sense of paternal responsibility that he had been trying for so long to control, but he just couldn't anymore. This was the one battle that he didn't mind losing.
"I love you, too, Rin," he whispered as he gathered the small child in his arms. "I love you, too."
