Chapter 4: Unexpected But Expected Encounter

They slept all night until they heard the faint yells from the town. They awoke one by one, Sango being the first. The yells sounding like "The governor is here" and "They have come". Kagome choked. 'They're looking for me. I have to leave soon!' she thought.

She urged them all to get up. They were ready within minutes and headed towards town. Once they arrived they hid in an ally as some troops marched past. "Kag, what are we gonna do now?" Sango asked. "What do you think they're doing here?" she added as an after thought.

"We will have to be careful," Kagome replied. "And I know why they're here," she whispered to Sango.

"Why?" Sango whispered back.

"I'll tell you later," she said after a little pause. "Now crew," she said louder so they could all hear, "be as quiet and normal as possible." And they set off towards the harbor.

~*~*~* Harbor *~*~*~

"Clear?" Kag whispered to the lookout, Mimi.

"Check!" she whispered back.

Kagome walked out from the ally, looking both ways. But as she entered the other ally, she bumped into something... or someone. "OW!" she yelped as she hit the ground. She looked up to see who she had ran into... only to be greeted by someone she wanted to get away from. "Sesshomaru..."

"Running are we?" he said, sounding angry. 'And I thought he didn't have emotion' she thought.

"Wh-what are you doing here?" she asked nervously.

"Come to find you," he stated simply.

"Oh really? You showed no attraction to me before. So I think I'll go now--"

"Stay," he commanded. Kagome looked at him, anger shining in her eyes. She pulled back her fist and aimed for his nose. (A/N: Sorry, sorry, sorry! But I had to put SOMETHING there!)

"No one will ever tell me what to do again," she said as Sesshomaru staggered backwards in shock and hurt. 'She broke my nose! She... broke... how? No one ever dared hit me before,' he thought, thoughts going through his head miles a minute, but not one emotion showed on his face. He looked down at his nose and brought his hand up to it. She threw him a small green hankerchief. He caught it in surprise. "You might need that," she motioned to the blood running down his chin. "Now I am leaving." She turned and ran out of the ally and towards the habor, her crew not far behind; though they were actually sneeking.

'Why?' she thought. 'Why did I do that? And then give him my hanky? My favorite one at that! AGH! I should have expected that!' Kagome ran until she was at the harbor, then ducked behind some crates to hide. There was another person she didn't actually want to see at the moment, Lord Inutashio. That must mean that her mother is around here some place. This is not good, NOT good at all! 'What now?'

"Kag!" Sango whispered from behind her. "Which ship do we wanna take?" Kagome glanced back at her, then back to the ships at the harbor. There were a few good ships. Quite a few. The best one would be the large one, but who knows how fast it could go? And they need a fast ship to get away in. There! That one! The one beside the large one! Her mother had told her of that. It was the Shooting Star. Not a war ship, but not a mercchant ship, and not a passenger ship. It was all three in one.Plus, it was one of the fastest ones ever known. And they were going to take it. Tonight, when everyone was sleeping, when all was quiet, they would steal the ship.

"That one," Kagome replied after a moment, tearing herself away from her thoughts. "The Shooting Star, it will do for now. It is one of the fastest ships around."

"Wha?" Sango gaped at her. "We can't take the Shooting Star! It... we... How?"

"Tonight. Everyone will be sleeping." Kagome nodded her head, as if making an agreement. "The rest of the morning we will collect supplies." She sneeked over to an alleyway nearby, motioning Sango and the crew to follow. Once everyone was there she told them of her plan, they all agreed. "Okay then, the supplies. Gano, Gino, and Gypsi: go find some food for our trip, and make sure you don't pick any rotten stuff." The three nodded and left, saying they knew exactly where to find what they needed.

"Neko, Ookami, Kit, and Mimi: find blankets, sheets, and pillows, if possible." They nodded and left.

"Kikyo, Yura, Kagura, and Kanna: find cloth or clothes that we can use, needles and thread, if you can find some." They nodded and Yura said," Of course we know where that stuff is! Where do you think we found our clothes?" and walked away.

"Yuki, Ali, Yumi, and Niko: find bathing soaps, and other stuff like that we will need." Nodded and left.

That left Sango, Kagome, Deni, Rin, and Kiyo. "What are we to do?" Kiyo asked shyly.

"To find weapons," Kagome sighed. Rin gasped.

"Do we have to? We could go find something else!" she insisted.

"But we'll have fun," Sango said, smiling. "I promise."

Rin smiled back,"Okay."
